"Don't be fooled by the exterior"
This is an old hotel. The outside and the check-in lobby are pretty seedy looking and the lobby smells of cigarette smoke. However, our room was lovely! It was large, with hardwood floors, comfortable beds, high quality linens and an updated bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute hotel, great location and reasonable pricing!"
Given the high cost of staying in Montreal, this hotel was a really great find! As long as you don't need a fitness room, pool, or other "big hotel" staples... This hotel has what you need and you will spend less overall. They have recently renovated, so the rooms are nice (quaint maybe). You will have to control the temperature using an A/C unit in […] the window or a space heater (it's an older building) - and there's some street noise that comes through on a Weekend evening when everyone is out late, but we were very happy with the room overall. The other services were not bad - parking is in a garage right around the corner, an the rate is reasonable. Wi-if is free, and they also offer free lockers for your luggage (before checking in or after checking out) if you want to do some extra sight seeing. The location is great. You can walk to the old section of Montreal, with all of its shops and restaurants, in 10 minutes. The Latin Quarter is a 5 minute walk up Rue St. Denis, with a lot of good places to eat as well. We also found the Metro to be very easy and convenient, and only a block away! I would absolutely stay here again and again! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Affordable convenience in the heart of UQAM."
Affordable stay, friendly desk staff, close to everything. Great place if you want a short walk to the Latin Quarter and most places in downtown Montreal. Rooms are small, but comfortable and very clean. Highly recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Old Montreal"
Good location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Not fancy but clean quiet friendly helpful staff. Good location. Walk to vieux Montreal bibliotique and metro. I'd stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel - will definitiely book here again"
The only negative things I can think of are the very small size of the bathroom and the inadequate number of elecric outlets. With 3 smart phones, one Ipad and one laptop, there were only two outlets to charge/use. We ended up using the bathroom outlets to charge the phones. Otherwise, its perfect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our room key didn't work for two days and the staff kept insisting that we try it again. Other than that good location and adequate accommodations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Basic Lodging"
Good clean basic lodging. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Free Wi-Fi and good TV cable selection. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great location in the Latin Quarter. Near Metro, Old Montreal and the Gay Neighborhood. Lots to see and do.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel close Latin quarter."
I had a good experience to be in this hotel that let me know other side of Montreal.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Quite a great stay !"
Nearly everything about the St. Denis was great! Great location within walking distance to all. When we arrived we were able to choose from 2 different rooms - we choose the one facing out to the street and had no regrets.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
enjoyed hotel, nice staff, convenience to Metro, university area, good restaurant selection, bakery down the street, added to our list of preferred hotelsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A real find"
Excellent neighbor, convenient to Metro and dining options, reasonable garage parking, very friendly and helpful staffGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel but sketchy location"
Hotel staff was excellent. Noisy air conditioner making sleep difficult. Lots of homeless in area. Would spend more to stay in safer location although quick access to metro helped.Genuine Expedia guest review
Good location and appropriate price for it. Walking distance to Old Montreal and the Port. Simple but spacious and clean room. Were traveling our 2yr oldchild, the desk clerk was very accommodating with bringing up a pack-n-play and a mini refrigerator when requested- both clean and functional. Comfy beds and pillows. Parking is very convenient round […] the block and no problem with space ($16/d + taxes). Downstairs in the lobby, nice leather chairs to lounge in and watch TV if wanted. "Great location and very affordable!"
I would stay there again without hesitation. The location is fantastic - walking distance to everything. Staff was very helpful. Rooms are small, but clean and have the necessary amenities. I definitely recommend this hotel!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Best staff ever"
Rooms are updated and nice, very friendly and helpful staff. Lobby areas need an update though. Good place for the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Funky and fun"
My partner and I spent three nights here and loved it! I like the hardwood floors and the bed was most comfortable. The location is very convenient: Latin Quarter, Metro stop, Old Montreal etc. It's a fun and funky area- not glitzy or commercial and the wonderful Rue Duluth with its eateries and vibe is a few blocks north. I'd stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to central montreal"
I was impressed. I arrived long ahead of the room being ready, and the staff were very helpful with getting me a locker for my suitcase so that I could start the day. Similarly, I had to check out at noon but was able to stow my luggage in a locker and get out for the day...Staff were freindly and helpful in other ways... the hotel is a short walk from […] the Berri-Uqam subway station in central montreal. The room was simple but pleasant and very clean. AC, lots of towels, coffee, etc. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Central and confortable"
Hotel is close to key areas in central town, public transportation nearby is excellent. Could walk to restaurants, cafes. Nice clean and comfortable room. Elevator was a bit slow and required waiting at times. Overall very worth the price. Outside construction was noisy in the morning.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful hotel in the Latin Quarter"
It was our first visit to Montreal and we didn't know the area at all. The Hotel St. Denis was a lovely place to stay in the Latin Quarter. It is located just down the street from the Metro as well as all manner of restaurants. Old Montreal is a 10 minute walk away and should not be missed. The room itself had a comfortable bed with clean sheets, a […] flat panel TV with cable, a coffee maker, a highly functioning A/C unit, and a full bath. The hotel has an elevator, a sitting area with a large TV, a computer, and vending. There is an interesting sitting room in the basement that looks a bit like a wine cellar. Overall, we had a great time and would not hesitate to return to the Hotel St. Denis in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Close to Metro services; lots of restaurants nearby; knowledgeable staff who handled all our questions courteously and quickly; no trouble getting to sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was a very nice size, but needs to be updated. The shades were ripped, lamp was broken and bathroom needed repair. We were there for the Jazz Festival, which was very close to the hotel. I don't know if the location is wonderful because that would depend on what you want to do. It's close to the metro. The staff was very friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Fun"
The room and hotel appear to be newly remodeled and very clean. At their "entry level" room rate, you would not expect to find all the basics provided, but they are (flat-screen television, in-room coffee, toiletries, etc). There is a decent selection of restaurants within 2 blocks for breakfast through dinner. The Art Center/Underground, Old Montreal/Waterfront […] and Chinatown are within 5 blocks. The subway is about a block away. The hotel is in the "Latin Quarter". We found the neighborhood to be in a transition with lots of construction. The hotel is surrounded by University of Quebec at Montreal buildings and seems to be transitioning to a "college populated community" with a loud and late night life - including clubs and sex shops. The parking garage is shared with UQAM but has reserved parking for the hotel. It is very close, easy to get in and out of, and seems to be well maintained. This hotel is better maintained than any hotel in its price range that I have experienced in such a convenient location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Just what we needed."
The overall size of the room is large, however the bathroom is a bit small. Well located. Parking is around the corner. Hotel staff was pleasant and efficient.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice room, great location."
The hotel staff were all happy to help in any way and very kind about speaking English with us. Our room was small and simple, but very comfortable. We loved being able to walk so quickly to the Village, the Latin Quarter and Vieux Montreal. The surrounding neighborhood was buzzing with activity and offered too many choices of good restaurants!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for an economical but comfy stay in Montreal"
The staff were very nice and the room, while not fancy was very comfortable (the bed was surprisingly comfortable). It's also really well situated on St. Denis street with lots of great food options nearby. We would recommend.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for a sight-seeing student"
Wonderful experience. The staff gave excellent food and drink recommendations and knew the area well. The hotel is walking distance from the metro and bus station, and there are many venues, shops, museums, restaurants and bars, all within a few blocks. I plan on staying here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very good for couple or sole traveler."
Very good. Staff were pleasant and helpful. They let me leave my luggage in a secure location for a couple of days while I went to Québec City.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Basic clean accommodation at a good price"
The hotel is old but clean and adequately maintained. The rooms were small but comfortable. Ours did not have air conditioning, but opening the window at night proved sufficient in May. The hotel is surrounded by University of Quebec buildings and the location is ideal for those who want to mingle with the locals and experience the food, drink, music […] and culture without spending a fortune - one block from the main subway station hub, close to restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. There is convenient garage parking nearby for $16/day that you pay for at check-in. The Latin Quarter is a vibrant diverse area, like Harvard Square in Boston, or Adams Morgan in DC, or Cleveland Park in Chicago. You will see some graffiti, vacant storefronts and homeless people but the streets in Montreal are very safe and friendly by American big city standards. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel was very nice for the very reasonable price. My room was not on the street and was very quiet. Comfortable bed. Clean. Good location for exploring the city - short walk to the convention center for my work meetings, and easy access to the plateau neighborhoods by foot or subway.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is in the middle of a university, so the neighborhood is a typical urban university neighborhood. I felt safe at all times. It is on the edge of Chinatown and the Latin Quarter, so there are many places to eat of all types. It is within walking distance of Old Montreal to the south and Plateau Mont-Royal to the north. As for the hotel itself, […] I was very happy with my stay. The hotel and room were both neat and clean, the staff was very pleasant, the bed and pillows were comfortable. The room was very quiet. The only thing I could hear from outside the room was the neighbor's shower. I recommend this hotel, and I would be happy to stay here if I ever return to Montreal. "Good location.... a very nice hotel!"
The front entrance isn't all that good, but inside it was very nice. Rooms were fine, and there were two common areas for relaxing. The people at the front desk were very helpful. Overall, we thought it was fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a very cute hotel. It was walking distance to Old Montreal. St. Denis Street is perfect for restaurants, bars, and cafes. The staff was very friendly. I highly recommend it!!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable, convenient hotel"
Very comfortable, clean and friendly. Staff answered all our questions and willingly helped with arrangements we needed to make for further travel. The hotel is in a university neighborhood with wonderful restaurants and shops nearby. The only drawback is that rooms on the street can be a bit noisy at night. But I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent location and service"
I travel a lot but rarely writes review. But this hotel was a pleasant surprise. I booked it because my friend who is from Montreal recommended the area, the hotel had got great reviews and was really affordable. My husband and I traveled with our 3,5 months baby and when we arrived she said that we got a room with with 2 singles bed and asked if we […] wanted to change. We said yes and then she said, I think I will just upgrade you to a suit. It will be nice for you. So nice :) The standard of the room was as you can aspect from a hotel with a lower price range and clean. The hotel´s location was GREAT! You can walk to Mont Royal and the Old town area. The staff in the reception was so helpful. We got a 15% discount to use for our next or for a friend next visit. We loved Montreal as a city so we have a lot of friends that we do the same trip and stay at the same hotel as us. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Terrific Stay, Wonderful Staff"
I visited Montreal very, very briefly in order to do my US Visa interview at the US Embassy. I booked the St Denis because I got a terrific one night deal plus it is in a good location (under 15 minutes walk to the US Consulate). Upon my arrival (at 2AM in the morning no less!) I was greeted by the FRIENDLIEST front desk who checked me in very quickly. […] I menitoned to him that I was heading to the US Embassy in the morning, how do I get there, etc. He offered to give me a wake up call and was very helpful with directions. The next morning when I went downstairs, he had handwritten out the walking directions (Google maps print job was too light). How sweet is that?! Check-out the next day was just as quick and painless as my check-in. And they were very helpful again with walking directions to the 747 bus to the airport. Room was small, clean, with working tv and modern-ish finishes. I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Montreal. My only disclaimer is that the rooms are small so if you are making a vacation out of your Montreal visit, and planning lots of in-room hotel time, maybe look for something more spacious/luxurious. Thank you Hotel St-Denis! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"convenient and afordable"

"dusty and no parking"
You must pay $20 per parking. The ceiling is low in the garage. The building was built before SUVs and crossovers were invented. The ceiling damaged the top of or car. felt very trapped. The hotel was a little outdated and dusty. Wouldn't stay here again. Hotel st. Denis is a better option.Genuine Expedia guest review
"nice and clean"
Great room, clean, staff very friendly. Only thing.........parking was a bit awkward. But, other than that, it was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Well located hotel"
Very well situated, close to the main metro exchange (Berri-UQAM), and nicely renovated. An excellent pied-à-terre in Montreal.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean comfortable room"
The hotel itself was kind of dingy but the room was clean, decent and quiet. The tv didn't work so they gave us free breakfast at the restaurant next door, which was not worth eating. We used their parking garage and had a hard time getting our car out--the doors weren't working with hotel cards. The staff did their best to be helpful and was friendly. "Very good hotel, would stay there again"
This hotel was old and seemed to be in the process of some renovations in the lobby. The bathrooms were small and our biggest complaint was the radiator heat. Since there was no thermostat or way to control the temperature in the room it got very hot over night. Other than these little complaints the hotel was great. The beds were very comfortable, […] the parking was pretty easy for a city and the front desk staff was friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Highly recommend this hotel! Reasonably priced AND located on a great street with tons of restaurants/bars and only one block away from a metro stop. Room was small, but comfortable... recently renovated (lounge area next to lobby was being done during our stay) and very clean. Thin walls, so there was a little bit of noise in the AM with the maids […] shuffling around in the hallway, but generally pretty quiet. Parking was on the same block as the hotel and very secure, although a little tricky to find your way in and out of the garage on foot... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
