Hotel Raffaello - Prague

I had a free weekend during a 2-week business trip through Europe, so decided to visit Prague. Hotel Raffaello was exactly what I needed in a hotel. I arrived late at night, and there was no problem checking in at all. Some nearby restaurants were still open so had time to grab a quick bite. My room was on the third floor (elevators at the hotel, but […] oddly enough they stop mid-floor between two sets of stairs, so you had to walk up or down one flight of stairs to reach your level. My room was really large, with very high ceilings, huge windows, blackout curtains, large and very nice bathroom. The front desk service was good. Breakfast was great in their basement room - very interesting architecture, and the breakfast selection was very good. the location of the hotel was good, as I could walk everywhere, and the Pavlova metro station was a 2-minute walk away. The neighborhood may have been a bit sketchy very late at night, but I never felt uncomfortable. This was my first visit to Prague and Hotel Raffaello - and probably not my last. Read more

The Hotel Raffaelo is situated practically on top of a major transit hub (IP Pavlova), which is literally only a few steps away, making for a conveniently located hotel that gives easy access to downtown Prague (by 2-3 train or tram stops, or a 10 minute stroll to Wenceslas Square), or the Congress Center (one Metro stop away). I was in Prague for a […] professional trade show, and selected the hotel primarily for its convenience. Compaed to other hotels I have stayed at in Prague, its was a pleasant surprise, as it was very inexpensive for its value. I had booked two of the apartment duplex rooms, which were pretty roomy with decent furnishings that were kept very clean by the hotel staff, who were completely unobtrusive. With the exception of the television (which had limited coverage as they were changing over to HDTV), everything was in excellent condition, with nice firm bedding and was comfortable. The rooms were equipped with decent WiFi, and had breakfast included in the rate. (Because of the tradeshow I was attending, I did not partake in the breakfast facilities, so I have no opinion on this.) Its not quite a business hotel, but definitely a great spot for families. The hotel was great. very friendly and accommodating staff. The room was neat and clean. Breakfast had a good variety. I for one loved the broiled eggs! The hotel location is fantastic. It is a 15-20 minutes walking distance from downtown. More importantly, it was 2 minutes away from a metro station. My only complaints were: missing AC, missing iron/iron board and the lack of a shower curtain. Despite the balanced climate of Prague, there were couple of days in June where temperature was a bit high and I could have used cool AC air. Other people may not find that as an issue (my wife didn't) but I'm the kind of person who sweats easily. I was surprised with the room not having an iron/iron board. I had to go to reception and ask for one. Now, I understand that the bathroom is a European style bathroom, but I feel that every bathroom must have a shower curtain! The location of this hotel is perfect. It's about a ten minute walk to old town or you can hop on the metro (station is on street corner). I would definitely stay there again. The staff is friendly and had good recommendations for things to do around town.

The only nice thing to say about this hotel is that the bathroom was decently clean. That's about it. The staff was friendly but the room was not very very tidy. There were spots on the bed covers, the sofa was dusty and the room look nothing like the pictures on the web.

This hotel provided an excellent location (next to Metro, 15 minutes walking from conference center and down-town sights. There were some minor niggles (small repairs to room, WIFI was a bit weak), but the excellent breakfast, friendly staff, price and - again - great location more than made up for this. Hotel was nice and we really liked the balcony we had. Only set back was that it was a little further from the tourist sites than I expected. However, city center is a fairly easy walk and if not in walking mood, a metro station is within 200 feet.

On a very busy street but generally quiet inside, this hotel was a bit of a surprise. We chose it as we arrived early in Prague and our preferred hotel was full. Frankly, we wish we'd stayed in the Raffaello for our whole visit. Yes, it is a bit out of the tourist action, but that made the bars and restaurants more local - and a bit cheaper. Room very dirty. Carpet is black around the edges. Old gum deposits on carpet. Would guess the carpet hasn't been replaced since it open. Window curtains also smokey colored. No air conditioning... so do not stay here during the summer. Rooms by the street are very noisy... good luck sleeping. One iron for the entire hotel. Front desk doesn't record […] who checks out the iron, so there is no way of getting it back. Front desk also called the wrong restaurant to make my dinner reservations. I did not find this out until I got to the restaurant and was told the restaurant was closed that day. Tub has no shower curtain... water will end up all over the floor. Elevators located in between floors... so you still have to take stairs no matter what floor you're on. Front desk had no city maps when I checked in. It's rated as a 4-star hotel, but this would be equivalent to a 2-star hotel in the US at best. But even 2-star US hotels have irons in each room. Read more

Don't judge this hotel from a Google map picture. Once inside, it was clean, charming, up to date, with very accommodating staff. They helped plan our excursions in Prague. We could book and pay for the excursions at the front desk with pick at the hotel. The staff spoke excellent English and knew how to make us feel at home. This is a very nice hotel with reasonable rates in a convenient location. The rooms are spacious and well furnished. About the only minor downside is that there is sometimes some noise from the busy street it is located on, but that was not a significant issue for us.

I am usually the type to not put a bad review out there after a bad experience, but will usually just let it lie. However, I want to share with people what I wish people would have shared with us. We entered in to what felt like a literal sauna. The room was a decent size, and with large windows. The carpet was stained, the bedding had worn holes in it, and the shower is a handheld shower head in a bathtub with now shower curtain. Immediately we both started sweating. We discovered that there was no A/C in the room. This was a bit odd, as if you pull up their website online, it states that the rooms have A/C. We went to ask the gentleman at the desk, and he just said that "he was sorry, but that is just the way it is" My wife then pulls up the website on the iPad to show him the false advertisement. He just shrugged his shoulders, and walked away as my wife was in mid-sentence. Really? We tried opening the windows, but as some other reviewers have mentioned, one of the main street in Prague is outside, and it is LOUD. We decided to give it another try...we went to dinner, and was hoping that perhaps the room would cool off as the sun went down. We returned, and were just as disappointed. For us, we don't have a ton of money to be wasting. We made the decision, though, that we had traveled a long 5000 miles, and did not want to have a miserable experience on what could be our one time coming to such a great city. The staff at Hotel Raffaello was very pleasant and quite helpful. They provided suggestions and tips. The biggest drawback was that it was a good distance from some of the primary tourist sights. Fortunately the tram and metro were located close to the hotel. There was a continental breakfast each morning that was okay and it helped start the day.

We spent 6 nights at Hotel Raffaello earlier this month. Overall our experience was positive. Our room was small but adequate, clean (with the exception of the stained bedspread) and met our needs. There was a small three piece bathroom with a european style "shower". Hotel is non-smoking but allows guests to smoke in the lobby so the smoke travels […] throughout. (We used the bedspread at the base of the door to filter the air a bit). There really is not anything to do at the hotel- no amenities at all and TV limited to 4 channels. Worked out for us because we were using the room just to sleep. Breakfast again was adequate but did not offer variety. A metro stop in just across the street and very easy and inexpensive to use. Wenscensalas Square is a 5-10 minute walk and Old Town 15-20 minutes. This is not a new hotel, nor a famous brand hotel. This is a European style hotel in an older building, but the rooms were quite large. Hotel is easily accessible being a short walk from I P Pavlova tube station.This is in the New Town district which is in walking distance or short tube/tram ride to most places of interest in the Old Town. Somehow this hotel has 4 stars but in fact this is not even 2 stars. Be prepared to carry your luggage through steps (one floor) from the entrance to the elevator. In your room, you will not find a desk or table and chairs, so the only way to work with the computer is to stay in the bed. But the most surprising discovery in that hotel was the bathroom. […] You will not find a shower curtain there. You will not be able to attach the shower on the regular hight either. So instead of relaxing shower you might feel very uncomfortable sitting in the bath-tub in restrained position and trying to prevent flooding. If you will be outside walking in beautiful Prague under cold fall or winter weather, and then you come back to your room and want to make a cup of hot tea or coffee you will be disappointed. There are no electric kettle or coffeemaker available in the room. Also you can't borrow it from the reception. They just don't have it. So you better go somewhere around (KFC or McDonalds) to get your warm beverage. The positive things in the hotel is that the stuff is friendly and maids clean the room very well. But the management of the hotel is very cheap and inappropriate. You will see very old carpets, drapery and bed covers. The room has a fridge and the safe, so at least this is good. If you need an iron, you can borrow it at the reception. Overall, we would not stay there if we would be aware ahead of time. Read more

Despite the hotel and the local tourist information indicating that the hotel was close to Wenceslas Square, it was actually half a mile or more away, and uphill from the Square. The hotel was well maintained and clean, and the staff were freindly and all spoke English. The buffet breakfast was generally okay, but one morning the sausages (actually […] hot dog type as in so many similar hotels) as wellas the scrambled eggs were cold. There was no aircon in the rooms, and we got a twin room despite booking a double. But the big issue was the fact that the passing traffic caused the room to shake and the wardrobe and in room safe to rattle loudly at regular intervals. If it hadn't been for the fact that we were dog tired every night, this would have been really annoying. All in all a reasonable accommodation spoiled by the above niggles. Read more

Not crazy about the location, as it is one of the few areas of Prague which is not well maintained, but the rooms in the hotel are comfortable, and large. Just avoid the breakfast. If not entirely, just stick with the coffee, tea, juice, bread, and butter. It may be free, but you will pay the price later.
