A short guide to Christ Church

Christ Church’s tourist areas, like Dover Beach in St. Lawrence Gap, tend to skirt the coast. “The Gap” is the island’s main nightlife hub with its bars and restaurants. Nearby, Needham's Point combines calm waters and military history. The 17th-century St. Ann’s Fort houses the island’s military. The rugged east coast is an easy drive from Christ Church. Bathsheba Beach is popular with surfers.

although the beach was beatuiful the hotel is in a very poor location you cannot do anything unless you have got a car. The swimming pool was great however the hotel is pricy as the rooms are pretty simple and not very clean. The food is not bad however the staff are always very grumpy. If you have got a car and are planning to move around the hotel is not bad for that, but bear in mind that if you dont have a car you will be very limited as there is nothing around the hotel (no shops, and 2 bars about 10 min wlaking)

We stayed at the silver sands hotel for one week during our recent trip to Barados. The view from our room was wonderful, we were a few feet from the ocean. Staff were very efficient and courteous at check in and throughout our stay. Service at meals and in the bar was good. A couple of niggles though the airconditioning in our room was very noisy, also as the hotel is on the south of the island there is nothing going on around it so you really are reliant on the hotel for your entertainment. Having said that there is an excellent restaurant "Gigi's" just across from the main entrance to the hotel and a short walk up the road. If you are looking for a quiet, inexpensive hotel then silver sands is good.

This resort is a wonderful place to stay for if you're in need of some relaxtion time. No need to rent a car just inquire at resort front desk about their local minivans for $1.50 that will take you from point A to B and you'll see our the Bajans live. Make sure to carry your own coffee, tea and sugar as the hotel does not provide any otherwise you can go to the bar and ask for some including ice. Also, if you're in need of wash cloth you'll need to ask the front desk staff along with iron and ironing boarding. Pack alot of snacks with you due to hotel did not have an vending maching on site and the mini- mart on site was never opened. Over-all, this is not a bad resort to stay.

      Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 11, 2009

The Silver Sands Resort was clean and offered an affordable rate through Hotels.com. The staff at the hotel bar were friendly and helpful. Some of the actual hotel staff were not accommodating during our stay. In ONE instance, the air conditioner stopped working. They sent 3 different people to check on it and told us "It seemed fine to them". It wasn't until we complained and demanded to be moved to a room where the air conditioning worked did they offer to resolve the issue. They often did not have clean beach towels available and the hotel food was not very good. My trip to Barbados overall was great. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The Silver Point Hotel (I stayed there last year)which is in the same area is worth the extra money per night to have a better hotel experience.

The rooms are clean but old and could do with updating. Very friendly staff and the restaurant food is reasonably priced and not too bad. Overall its an ok hotel and a bargain for an overnight stay.

Used this hotel twice, each time one night, going and coming between Miami and St Vincent. Great hotel to overnight. But if you arrive after 9PM you can't get anything to eat or drink as the desk shuts down and the hotel only uses a hotel charge card. In the morning you have to get a card to eat breakfast-this use of a card is only sticking point in staying at hotel. The cab from airport is $40BD/$20US each way. $20 US cab ride to any restaurants if you have additional time.

I can only comment on the room, as my husband and I arrived there late at night on October 13 and left early the next morning to catch a cruise. Our room was depressing. If we would have booked it to spend more than one night I would have switched hotels. I am a budget traveler, so I wasn't expecting luxury, and I can easily say that this is the worst hotel room I have stayed in. Everything-TV, linens, furniture, was old and outdated, and the bathroom fittings were comparable to those in gas stations. In all fairness, it was clean, but that does not make up for the yucky appearance. I would not recommend the hotel to anyone.

The website said that our suite would be air-conditioned, but only the bedroom had an air-conditioning unit. We had 4 people staying in the suite and had to pay an extra $75/night in "extra person fees". There was a bed in the bedroom and a twin bed and a pull-out couch in the living room, but because it was too hot to sleep in the living room we had to drag mattresses into the bedroom so we could all sleep. We were very disappointed with the room itself. The kitchen smelled funny and did not have a microwave. The bathroom did not include a hairdryer and there were no outlets in the bathroom or around the sink, so we couldn't plug in our hairdryer. In the bedroom the only outlet was behind the bed. The bathroom had no furniture or decorations. It was literally a white toilet with a shower and white shower curtain and white walls and tile floors with mildew in the cracks. We dragged a coffee table into the bathroom so we could have a place to put our clothes and stuff when showering. The grounds would have been really pretty but there was trash everywhere. We were there in September which is not the busy season and there were plenty of staff lounging around doing nothing, so we couldn't figure out why nobody was picking up the trash. For example, there were plastic cups in the trees, shirts in the bushes, and other random items scattered about. We had breakfast in the Seafans dining room and our waiter was not good. He was very slow and there were only 2 other tables, but the real problem was that he didn't bring some of the food we ordered and when we asked about it, he claimed we didn't order it even though I had watched him write down the order. Then he seemed surprised that we still wanted the food. Then he charged us for the wrong items and seemed surprised when I asked him to fix the bill. There was one computer in the hotel lobby where you could get online for 30 minutes for about $5 US which was a good deal. But if you go during a busier time, you might not g

This was a fun place to stay for our family. Our boys had fun hunting around the property for frogs, crabs and lizards, and swimming in the 2 large pools. The breakfast buffet has something for everyone, and the outdoor restaurant has a satisfying snack menu (including my kids favorite-chicken nuggets) we used for dinner-instead of the more formal restaurant, which I have also eaten at -it has good local food and fish. The ocean here is a bit surfy - and can have an undertow - so you need to watch your kids. We found the hotel for an overnight stay on our way elsewhere, and liked it enough to come back and stay a couple of days. It is about 15 minutes from the airport so it is convenient as a stopover. Not all the rooms are fully airconditioned, some have airconditioned bedrooms only- and are less expensive. All the rooms are comfortable, roomy, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

I had a room overlooking the ocean and it was goregeous. The surf is rough and the wind constant. The noise of the surf drowned out most any other sound. This is a rough windward spot on the island. The surf is too rough to swim. There are two pools, one small and shallow 3' for young children, and one larger but not olympic size that got to 9' deep. It is warm due to the warmth of the climate. There are two restaurants that sit by the pool. One caters to the all inclusive crowd and serves buffet breakfast and dinners. They are pricey. You put money into a hotel card that you use at the restaurants. The other restaurant is mainly a bar. There is a convenience store on site which stocks like a camp store would. There is a two burner stove top in the room and a small frig with enough freezer space for ice trays. The room is minimalist. No free shampoo so bring your own. Small room. about 7 working stations on the tv, two or three which are sports. Only one geared toward kids--toon disney. To do anything other than swim in the pool, you must take a bus (a hike to the stop and then some understanding of where/when/how much per trip). The buses are about hourly in stops. Or you rent a car or use a taxi (each adds up). If you have kids, they will probably get bored once the pool gets old. The staff was helpful and hands off unless you asked for help. Most guests were from England. Not being able to swim in the ocean was a dissapointment that had nothing to do with the hotel. The price of food and that I was forced to do the buffet for breakfast or dinner unless I cooked in my room or took a taxi into town was difficult and expensive. I wish they had a menu. You have to pay to use the internet at their one computer. Connection is slow so you end up using it for only really big email emergencies. They had a small workout room with bare basics of free weights and treadmill. They had a tennis court. The enitre complex feels and looks worn and tired.

Nothing extravigant, but a great value for the price. The restaurants food was terrific, though Bajan service is a bit slow but still friendly. Nice location away from busy streets. Peddlers on the beach, but they are polite when you say no.

I reviewed the hotel on other sites as well and its pretty much what we expected. The beach had some rough waves at times and thats why a lot of surfers are popular here. Not a great place for younger kids, not much for them to do. But the room was clean, water pressure great, and we had an awesome little kitchenette with everything we needed to make snacks and breakfeast. Nothing close to the hotel but we had planned on a car rental anyways. The food at the hotel's restaurants was yummy though and had a variety of things to eat. Good music during the day as well. The pool was very clean but not deep enough for me. Overall it was a nice stay and I will be back.
