Great hotel for the money. Good location. Only downside- they didn't have the heat or air running so our room stayed around 76 degrees (a little warm, especially for sleeping). Luckily,the windows open a crack, so that helped.

First I want to warn everyone about the doormen. It was obvious they have an understanding with the black town car/suburban drivers. The doormen were very pushy and lied to me about my trip back to LaGuardia Airport. DO NOT BELIEVE what they tell you. Their town cars are NOT cheaper. The ride to and from LaGuardia on the cab was 21.30 plus the toll 4.57. I gave the cab driver $30. I did not appreciate being lied to by 3 different doormen! I was very upset that they pestered me as I tried to exit the hotel to eat breakfast, upon my return and upon my departure to the airport. Especially because I was being lied to! Anyway, the hotel itself has modern decor with friendly front desk people. The room was always cleaned correctly. The location was okay. If you like staying in a quiet area with no shopping near, this is the place for you. My friends and I normally stay closer to a shopping area so we won’t be staying here again. And I hope I never experience doormen like those working here.

The hotel was in a lovely neighborhood, convenient to Grand Central Station. Affinia Shelburne is a nice clean, modern hotel with lovely beds and pillows! Our bathroom was VERY small, but clean. The hotel offers a pillow menu which provides complimentary pillows, such as magnetic pillows, Swedish pillows, etc. Rare Bar & Grill, the restaurant located at the hotel, offered great burgers and appetizers at a reasonable price and was very good. We were disappointed in the hotel's Housekeeping services. It took two days to get wine glasses we asked for on the night of our arrival, even after repeated calls. When we arrived at the hotel, we were chagrined to discover that they did not have one of the rooms we paid for in advance. They offered in exchange an upgraded suite, but the suite contained only one bed and a pullout. Since we required two beds in the room, this was disappointing. They ended up providing a rollaway bed, which turned out to be comfortable enough, so we ended up enjoying the benefit of a room with two bathrooms, separate bedroom, and a living area. We were told that the hotel was overbooked. Notwithstanding this experience, I would recommend the hotel. It was very comfortable, clean and convenient.

Hotel Staff are helpful and courteous, room was good size and bed large and comfortable. Bathroom was a little small. The room had an area with fridge and microwave, not sure what the point of the microwave was as there were no plates or cutlery! It would have been better to have had a kettle and complimentary tea and coffee common in most hotels around the world. Also the $7 bottle of water that you can buy for around $1 in the local shops was a bit steep, didn't take anything from mini bar as this was also vastly overpriced. Shame how the little things can take the edge of a an otherwise good value hotel.

Everything about the stay, from the doorman greeting us when we arrived to him getting us a towncar cheaper than a cab back to the airport when we left, was superb. Every member of the staff was warm and friendly, and the suite couldn't have been more perfect for us. We will definitly be going back in the future.

If you've ever stayed in an Affinia hotel, you know to set your expectations high--I did, and I was satisfied. This hotel was just recently purchased and renovated by the Affinia chain, so almost everything is new. The room in large by Manhattan standards, with great bedding, drawer space, closet space and a small refrigerator and safe. The bathroom was a decent size, with Aveda toiletries and a lighted makeup mirror. The exercise room is one of the best I've been in in a hotel. Two each of treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical, and stepper. Also various sized weight balls, free weights, and Pilates balls. Rooftop bar is adequate--We were there at 5:oopm--perhaps the ambiance improves at night when the mini lights overhead turn on. The two drinks were pricey, and we had only a beer and a sangria. Staff was friendly and all of our requests were met on a timely basis. Only complaint--I like to lock up my laptop when I leave my hotel room, and the safe isn't large enough for a standard size laptop.

polite, friendly staff. modern and spacious room - we had a suite with 2 bathrooms which was a bonus as we were travelling with our 18 year old daughter, so the extra bathroom made life easier when getting ready to go out. one of the downsides of this hotel was that the lifts were a bit out of date and took a while to come, it seemed like you were waiting for ages for one. Despite the lifts i would stay at this hotel again - great value for money as the location couldn't have been any better - out of the main hustle and bustle but within walking distance for seeing all the sites.

Last year we stayed here for Girls Weekend. At the time, the hotel was going through renovations. It did not interfere with our stay but we did have a mouse siting in our room (due to construction). The front desk offered to comp a night or move rooms. We opted for the free night and decided that this gesture, as well as the price and location was worth coming here the next year. We were floored when we walked in the lobby! It looks great! Our room was slightly bigger than last year (extra bathroom) and no mouse siting. We will definitely stay here again next year when we get together. No coffee pot in room but you can get coffee downstairs at Rave restaurant. I did think though, last year's staff was more gracious and attentive.

The staff was very helpful and courteous. The room was clean and felt newly renovated. Conveniently located to Mid-town Manhattan shopping and businesses but in an nice area with trees and flower boxes.

This hotel really made our NYC stay special. The staff from the doormen to the maintenance crew to the front desk were wonderful.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was very clean and stylish. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only negative experience we had there was when we asked to have our bedding switched to hypo-allergenic since one of our group is allergic to feathers (and most of the bedding was down.) We left for a number of ours, returned, and our bedding still had not been changed. We asked a second time, and then they came up in the next hour. Overall, a good hotel.

We had stayed here previously a few years ago and remembered the rooms as spacious, clean and comfortable. Thanks to Hotels.com we were able to stay there again, this time for 4 nights. If New York wasn't such an exciting place to be out and about we would have spent much more time in the room. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York. And the Rare restaurant has excellent food.

We had booked a studio/one room and showed up with our son. The hotel was able to upgrade us to a two bedroom, 2 bath for very little extra. I was extremely pleased with this. Everyone was very helpful and nice. We had a back room and it was so quiet I couldn't believe I was in NYC. The lobby area had a nice, comfy sitting area. My formula is at least 3.5 stars, 4 stars from guests and a low price. We got the best of everything here.

My husband and I stayed here with my mother-in-law and our young nephew, and were so delighted to stay in such high-quality hotel in a calm neighborhood, yet steps away from Grand Central. The decor is completely new, very stylish yet cozy. The beds were very comfy, and the Aveda bath products were a nice touch. The front desk clerks and porters were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooftop bar has great views as promised, although the drinks were twice as pricey as the pub up the street.

Multitude of problems from non-working television remotes, room under maintenance repair to lack of response from staff to requests made to correct those issues. However, the manager was genuine in his attempt to resolve the problems. Nice location and pleasant neighborhood. It is a real toss up as to whether we can honestly say it is worth staying here.

we have just returned from Affinia Shelburne and we have had a great time!!! Our one bedroom suite was fabulous, spacious and our two children really enjoyed their time her. The hotel is in a great area, near to everything-about 7min walk to Empire State and 10min to Macys or Bloomingdales, but taxis are so cheap and readily available you don't need to walk if you don't want to!.Couldn't recommend it high enough.

We enjoyed our stay at the Affinia Shelburne. The hotel was clean and nicely decorated and very roomy. It was well located for access to shows and shopping as well as to the neighborhood small shops and restaurants. Beautiful views from the rooftop bar/deck. The only disappointment was that we requested housekeeping to freshen our room on the second of our three night stay, but they never came.

Booked this for three adults and two children, originally thinking we were all going to be sharing a room as the details indicated two beds and a bed settee. Before we saw the room we asked about an upgrade but were told there were no other rooms available. As it was we didn't really need it as the 'room' was in fact two rooms, the bed settee being in the sitting room, which also had a bathroom attached (as did the bedroom) There was plenty of room for us all, two TV's. but no tea or coffee making equipment - we had to ask for it. That and the fact that although we had booked for 5, the bed settee hadn't been made up and there was no linen for it, were the only down sides. (we had to request that too - and at 3 in the morning after a long delayed flight with three tired kids is a bit of a chore). That said, great location, excellent value and very helpful staff - a few reviews seem critical of them, but we found them to be more than helpful and very courteous.

Most things about this hotel was above average but I had a bad experience at the front desk. I arrived at 3:05 pm at the front desk and was unceremoniously informed my room was not ready (not so much as an apology). I asked how much longer I had to wait, since I actually came in at 12 noon and already waited 3 hours. The lady shrugged her shoulders and said "15 minutes, maybe 30." I asked why I had to wait. There was another personnel behind her (manager?) and he said that the hotel had been fully booked. Duh! July 4th weekend, they should have expected it and prepared accordingly.

The hotel location and room were outstanding value for the money. I thought $13.95 per day charge for the internet was excessive. The hourly charge was even $8. Otherwise, I have to say we were presently surprised.

Terrific hotel. By New York standards ttye room was huge. Would highly recommend it.

The room was spacious and all the furniture in good conditions. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. The rooftop bar is a plus.

We stayed at the Shelburne two years ago in the midst of the renovation that is now nearing completion. We love the area as it's just a few blocks from Grand Central Station but is in an area that feels somewhat residential and is quieter than many midtown locations. The hotel itself is great with very large recently updated rooms, comfortable beds, and great service. This is an outstanding place to stay if you need a bit more room than the standard New York City hotel room provides. We'll stay here again on our next visit.

Excellent hotel - very curteous staff and very clean and modern throughout, they adjoin a burger/bar with great food - although a little expensive! would definitely recommend and stay here again as its right in the heart of the city!

We found the hotel very comfortable, informal, staff very helpful and friendly, with a lively bar offering good food and drink. The rooftop bar is a great place to enjoy an evening drink and look out over the Manhattan skyline. PCs available in the hotel lobby for free access to online check-in , very useful.

The neatest Hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff was excellent and the roof top bar provided a spectacular view of the city at night. The only complaint we had was a problem with a breaker conected to the front bathroom. Other than that it was absolutely fabulous and I can't wait to go back!!

The hotel was nearing the end of renovation works when we stayed and the reception area was like a building site. However, once we were in our room it was actually very quiet as the hotel is in a residential area. Our spacious one bedroom suite had 2 comfortable beds in the bedroom and a separate living room, each with flat screen tv. There were 2 bathrooms. Each room had a refrigerator and there was a tea/coffee maker. Plenty of storage in 2 large cupboards, an ironing board and iron and a small safe which was not big enough to store a laptop in. Towels were changed daily and the bed linen was very good quality. We did find a couple of pretzels on the floor when we moved a chair round but as the beds and bathrooms were spotless we had no complaints. We used room service for a meal on one occasion. This was provided by the adjoining restaurant, Rare. Service was slow but the food was absolutely delicious. On another occasion we requested 2 wine glasses which took over 30 minutes to arrive. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. The location was very good, a 5-10minute walk to Grand Central Terminal or 33 Street station for subways. We will definitely stay here again.

There were extensive lobby renovations but it did not hamper out stay. Discounts were given yet no disturbance could be heard. All our suites were a good size, large comfortable beds in crisp clean room. The staff were polite and prompt. The location was excellent also - a quiet and safe end of midtown. Faults are difficult to find. Congratulations to the staff of a hotel I highly recommend.
