Affinia was everything we were looking for. Arrived around noon, knowing that our check-in time was 3 p.m, but hotel staff gave us an upgrade free of charge and we were able to go to our room shortly after noon. The Affinia Manhattan was located in the perfect spot! It was literally RIGHT across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. After a show at the Garden, it was nice to just walk across the street to get back to our room! The hotel’s restaurant provided a nice atmosphere and the food was pretty good. Along the way there are many restaurants, retail stores and of course, the “People Show!” The One Bedroom Suite was smaller than I expected. We chose the Affinia Manhattan, based on reviews and price (it was a lot cheaper than other hotels around Christmastime). We also trained in to Penn Station from Virgina, with two small children in tow, and figured it'd be easier to stay nearby. That was the case, we literally walked out of Penn Station and crossed the street in to the hotel, which […] was great, however, the surrounding neighborhood (Harold Square) is insanely busy and not a nice place to be. I am an ex-NYer, so I already knew this, but since it wasn't a place I ever went myself, I didn't know the extent of how crazy it was. We would have rather stayed downtown or uptown in a quieter part of the city and will go that route next time. The hotel was nice and the room was lovely. It was an interior room, so you didn't get the constant street noise, however it did back up to the elevator shafts, so we heard the hum of the elevators from time to time. I called the desk and asked for another room and they offered to move us for the remainder of our trip, however by the first night, we were used to the sounds and stayed with the room. It was fine. The room was clean and large for NYC standards. The bathroom is small, but clean, cute and functional. Overall, it was a good stay, I just wish it was in a quieter part of town. Read more

It's clean and the rooms were recently renovated but not big. However, IT'S NYC! Unless you want to pay over $800 / night or more, your room is going to be small. It's a practical hotel, not a luxurious hotel. The Affinia is right across from Penn Station which means you can pay $12.50 to take a 30 min train from EWR to NYC and have your hotel right there when you walk out of the station. It's also easy walking distance to Times Square, Rockafella Center, MSG, at others tourist traps if that's your deal. If you like live jazz, you can easily take the metro to Greenwich Village or walk 10 blocks to the Kitano Hotel. All other sites - you are right across from Penn Station. I stayed at the Affinia Manhattan because it was very close to the train station. It happened to be Thanksgiving and the day of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, with the floats and the giant balloons shaped like Disney characters and the last float in the parade always carries Santa Claus. This Santa looked a lot like Edmund Gwenn-the actor who played […] him in the 1947 movie "Miracle on 34th Street". I mention this because this Santa Claus also stayed in the Affinia Manhattan. I thought it was a good, middle-class hotel. Some rooms are cramped and have no view of the city, though. I heard others complaining about their rooms, but mine was nice enough. You must make sure that the room has what you need in terms of number of beds, kitchen, view of the city, etc. before you book. It is hard to change when you are there. Spent three nights there and after factoring it all in, this was a good, not great experience. Let's start with the good: hotel staff very friendly, helpful and informative. Check in and out was effective and efficient. The concierge team did an excellent job of offering suggestions on where to go, how to get there and the like. That made our experience […] even better. Now the areas for improvement: picking up from what appeared to be a construction project across the street, the garbage trucks were loud - very loud - throughout the night. And the shower was the smallest space I have ever been in. When you mix it all together, the hotel served its purpose: we had a nice, clean place to stay with wonderful staff and that faciliated a nice fall weekend in New York. That's exactly what we wanted. this hotel was the worst hotel I ever stayed at. I have traveled the world to look at hotels for our world congress. The hotel staff were rude to start with. The hotel rooms had one tiny mirror ONLY in the bathroom. If you had to charge your cell or sit in bed with lap top no plugs near to plug in your cell phone. I didnt have a do not disturb sign. […] I had to handwrite one and hang on the door. I spoke to manager and was told, "well, the designer designed the rooms this way". If you had called us we would have brought you a mirror. Early in the morning someone entered our room. No knock on the door, no I am sorry it is housekeeping, or maintaince, or whoever. it was very scary. I called front desk I was told that they would "call security to find out who entered my room". Never got a call back to make sure I was fine, or to apologize or explain who entered the room. It is a real shame because this hotel is in a very good location really a block from Macy's and very close to Time Square. But, the location without the esential amneities, good security in place, with hotel staff who are curtious and friendly makes for a stay that is difficult, scary, and miserable. I landed at jfk at 5am on a friday morning I called the hotel for an "early" checkin they said they couldn't guarantee it but they would try when I got there at 630 am the lady at the counter said your room is ready and there is no early checkin fee. I needed a quick nap so bad and for them to let me check in hours early with no […] charge was unbelievable. The location was unbeatable the room we nicely sized for new york. Beds were so comfortable, lots of extras at no cost, microwave, fridge, coffe pot all included in the kicthenette. Girls weekend planned. Arrived at the hotel early in morning and dropped off luggage for one night stay. Check in was at 3:00 pm. Arrived back at hotel around 6 and room was not ready. Was given voucher for drinks and appys at bar. At 8:00 pm went to check on room and still not ready. Was not happy. Took another available room even though it was not […] what we paid for, We paid for 2 queen beds and 2 bathrooms. Ended up with 2 full beds and one bathroom. Best of all we had no heat all night. Very noisy due to the fact you are across the street from Madison Square Garden. People yelling in the streets at 3:00 in the morning. Better bring you ear plugs. The hotel reimbursed us some $ and gave us a voucher for buffet breakfast which was very good, however, I think I would try another hotel before going back to the Affinia.L Read more

The front desk had a few problems with quite a few bookings when we arrived and had to wait for 15-20 mins while they rang Expedia.
