"Nice Hotel But Beware Of Deposit Policies"
Nice, older, elegant hotel right across the street from Madison Square Garden and Pennsylvania Station. Theater District and Times Square is an easy 10 - 15 block walk (short blocks). Safe and clean. Be aware they charge your card $50.00 per night of your stay BEYOND what you pre-pay. A group checking in before us had a very difficult time with this and the hotel would not work with them. They had booked 2 rooms for 7 nights and even when trying to pay in cash, the hotel insisted the deposit had to go on a card - hotel staff was very firm and rigid (and not very friendly about it either).

"Windy for sure."
The room in general was fine regarding decor and quality. The experience was awful. Record cold temps in NYC and the heat just couldn't keep up. The blinds (both sets of curtains closed) were blowing with the draft coming in from the window. We had the heat cranked up to 90 but at 4am we just couldn't take it anymore and need more blankets brought up. We couldn't shower because it was just like being outside with the draft- easily 55 degrees in the room. The staff was responsive but it was ridiculous

"Great place for couples!"
I only stayed here for one night. The room was in excellent condition. The beds and bathroom were clean. I really enjoyed the bar downstairs because it was live on a Friday night. Perfect ending to a perfect evening with someone you care about!

"Nice close hotel in NY but with a few problems"
I liked the hotel - however the room was quite small for 3 people and also when three stay they only give you free breakfast for 2 people - slightly weird! We also had a problem with our air con so it was freezing in the room!!

"No Title. Just fine."
The room was clean.The bathroom may stand a better cleaning. The hotel personnel was kind and well intentioned but the service, i.e. picking up dirty dishes across the hall from us, was an issue on a daily basis... The price was right - it was a special! I would stay there again for a special offer.

"City trip"
This stay was to enjoy the city. Walked two blocks got on the subway and went to the MOMA, back on the subway to the village for a show at The Bitter End. Once back at the hotel we went into the bar and enjoyed the drinks. The staff was great again, Asfran, Matt, Carl, Manny and Z the door man were great!! Lobby was clean, check in was easy, parking valet was great. Our room was roomy comfortable and quiet. Great stay. Oh yes the kitchen great addition to the room!!!

"Macys Parade"
We came into town for the Thanksgiving holiday . This is by far one of our favorite hotels in the area . The hotel staff was great from the door man parking our car to the bellhop with our luggage. Check in is always very professional And our request have early been not met. The room was large enough (jr suite) to have an additional guest and the kitchen allowed us to make coffee and breakfast with ease . With our location so close to Macys the parade was an easy walk. Great time. In the spring I'm looking forward to a terrace room

"True 1-bedroom space"
The climate control in the room was not optimal. The sleeping area, which was separate from the living room/kitchenette area, was too warm for comfortable sleeping. The thermostat stayed at around 78 degrees even with the heat turned off. I literally had to turn on the window air conditioner (at the direction of the building engineer) on a 32 degree January day. The air conditioner itself was old and noisy so running through the night was not an option. They offered to change my room but it was the 3rd of 4 nights before I realized I couldn't 'figure out' a way to manage it. The bathroom was tiny! Wifi was expensive at $14.95/day. The kitchenette was furnished (dishes, pans, etc.) and included a cook top, microwave and refrigerator. Overall, I needed a meeting space every day and this was a true 1-bedroom space so it met my needs at an affordable price. I would stay there again but would be quicker to change rooms if climate control was an issue again.

"good location for the price"
spent one night here after attending a knicks game at msg across the street. room was spacey and well decorated but bathroom was very tiny. hot water didn't work but was fixed after i called down. i also couldn't adjust the heat and the room got so hot at night i had to open a window. would probably stay here again b/c of the location and price but the issues with the water and room temperature were annoying.

Great stay room was gorgeous it only lacked sufficient and a working air conditioning unit . My first room was dirty and tiny so I upgraded for a larger room . I'd definitely request a room on a higher floor it's a little quieter and has a better view .

"Great price, location, and service"
This hotel was in a great location, right across from NY Penn Station and the garden, close to Broadway, which we walked to to see the play Misery and did some shopping, was close to everything we wanted to do. The room was small but very comfortable and we got prompt service when we called for extra pillows and and a heat issue, which was solved quickly. Worked out very well for us.

"Great time with an Opps!"
Everything was very nice including the staff. Our last night however was a disaster. The heat on its own, went up to 80 degrees. At first the room was cold, requested another comforter then it started to climb. It went to 73 degrees….still comfortable. The last night (New Years eve) it climbed to 80 degrees we were sweating…On December 31st. Asked when we got back to the room for someone to fix it….nothing. Ended up opening a window which ran cold air across the top of me while the rest of the room was frying. They did give me a partial refund.

"Stay here if you hate sleep"
Stay here if sound sleep is optional. The heating pipes are probably century old which starts rattling loud all night. Called roomservice and building "engineers" says everybody is complaining about it and keeping the heat above 80 will lower the noise but no luck. Soundproofing is joke, you can hear a lot of noise from the street and other rooms. During checkout when I complained all they say is , yes we see the notes on your file. Not a bit apologetic. Will not stay here even if offered free room.

"Terrible customer service"
Just to check in, we had to wait almost two hours. Our double bed room was not available and we were offered one king with sofa bed. Our five year old felt asleep while waiting for housekeeper to provide the bedsheets. After making five phone calls to the manager and waiting until midnight for some one to show up, we were so tired and uncomfortable we could not enjoy our stay in NYC. Great location but terrible service. The room was tiny and just ok.

We stayed 2 nights actually, Saturday to Monday. The room was not as big as it appeared on the photos I looked at prior to booking. It was too warm in the room although we had the temperature down as much as possible. My wife had a hard time sleeping as it was too warm for her. WiFi was free in the lobby. As the kids wanted it we payed $15 for 24 hour access in the room. We parked the car in the hotel for $55 per 24 hours. Note to self: don't bring the car to NYC next time. The coffee maker in the room was OK, but the ground coffee in the little package was not. It looked and tasted more like tea than coffee. Coffee was not replaced the next morning but it didn't matter b/c I wasn't going to drink it anyway. Next time I will book another hotel, although I liked this location. For the same kind of money I know I can find a bigger room with better coffee... Check in/out staff were friendly. The guy who was in charge of the luggage room didn't seem very interested in helping, I tipped him anyway. I liked the corner store by the front desk. I could buy a Heineken for a reasonable price and bring up to the room.

Room was great size, unfortunately the thermostat did not work well at all, room was way too warm and could not turn off the heat. Was on third floor and noise from heating system was way too loud, kept me up at night. Had to call three times for an ironing board as none was in the room. Not like the last time I stayed there when everything was really good

"Affinia is a nice place to stay, ok service"
Lobby is nice. Room (bathroom in particular) is a little dated. We had to wait a very long time for a bellhop to store our luggage, and the bar downstairs has tables that are unflatteringly up-lit. When we asked about delaying checkout - they begrudgingly gave us an extra hour.

a kid kept screaming and kicking the wall both nights we were there. Having a little trouble getting our full deposit back only got some of it. No charges on the account was told it would be back on in 48 hours.The room was clean except the layout was odd.

"Not a 4 star hotel! Will not stay there again."
I was very disappointed overall with my stay. On Hotels.com, this was given 4 stars and it was far from a 4 star hotel. The furniture in my room was falling apart, the soap/shampoo/conditioner dispensers were "community use" - in other words, they were in big bottles attached to the wall, not individual. The bathroom was tiny. The pictures make the hotel look a lot better than it was. I ordered room service (lobster bisque and crab cakes) and the food was not very good. I would not stay there again.

"Affinia was OK but not great."
Stayed for 5 days. Room size was good but other than the bed, which was excellent, did not find other furniture very comfortable. First hotel in a year (about 40 stays) that did not offer free wifi - $15 per day and slow. Suite with a kitchen but no table or chairs suitable for in-room dining. Rooms on the north side of the building have to tolerate fire trucks/sirens from the station next to the hotel, day and night. Big screen in bedroom and living room, but reception was spotty.

"Fantastic location but a bit noisy."
The location of the Affinia was PERFECT for our recent hockey road trip! We were able to get to NJ and Brooklyn very easily for the Islanders and Devils game since Penn Station is right nearby. Of course, we were also right across the street from Madison Square Garden for the Rangers game. The Flying Puck was a fun bar to go to (right across the street) and we really enjoyed the Juice Shop in the mornings. The staff was very friendly and helpful and everything in the hotel was very clean. Really liked the bath products (large bottle dispensers on the shower wall). The ONLY negative to this location is the noise - woken up by fire sirens and traffic every morning - assume there are parts of NY that aren't quite so noisy? Or hotels that are built with more sound-proofing? Was really hard to get a good night's sleep here on the street side.

This hotel is in a great location. We took the train to Penn Station and the hotel was a very easy walk to/from. The hotel was very busy upon arrival - we'll cut them slack as it was a few days before New Years Eve. The staff were very kind and patient dealing with everyone's check in. Unfortunately, rooms were not ready for most guests and we did not get our room until close to 5pm. Made it tough to get to dinner/show. The hotel lobby is lovely. Very quick elevators for a high rise hotel. Our room was not great. No views but brick walls. The bedroom was so tiny the furniture was custom made to fit. The bathroom was even smaller. There was no where to put your toiletries. A larger than average person would truly not fit. There were huge closets all over the place which was a great waste of space. There could have been one less closet and the bathroom would have been huge. Overall, a great time in the city. The hotel was just a place to change and sleep.

great area and service at the hotel is the most important part. It is so hard to find a good hotel with some room that come with decent service in Manhattan. In Manhattan, it is very hard to find nice service without paying an arm and a leg. This hotel however has great service for NYC standard and price is very reasonable.

Went to NYC with my family of five between Christmas and New Year's Eve. The hotel was very convenient to Macy's, Times Square, and other tourist destinations. Subway station is close for those wanting to travel further around the city. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, though they needed more front desk help around 4 pm when check-in begins. We arrived a little early and stored our luggage with the bellman. The room was bigger than we expected and nicely renovated for a hotel built in the 1930s.

"Close to Penn Station and great for families."
We stayed three nights just before New Year's with two grandchildren. Even though it was almost a mile to Times Square, you could easily get anywhere by subway or taxi. Having the kitchenette was very convenient for a family group. There was a good amount of room here, which I understand is somewhat hard to come by In Manhattan. We would go back there again.

"Family Vacations"
Housekeeping personnel enter the room without knocking the door and with the private sign hanging outside the door. As a result, the housekeeping lady surprised me getting out of the bathroom after showering without any clothes on! In addition we found women's hair in the bed's sheets and in the bathroom tub and in the nightstands. Facilities are not as nice as they are picture on the website.

"Great find"
Great hotel. Very convenient to Penn Station and Herald Square. The rooms have been updated and are clean and modern. The only downside was that it was very noisy, even with the windows closed on the 12th floor. HVAC is still old school so you'll need to use the window AC unit even in the winter because the radiators make the room very hot. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Convenient location. Don't bring a car though. We stayed for 26 hours in total and got charged $120 by the valet service who works for the hotel. Didn't expect it to be so high.

"Nice in central location"
I took my two kids and a friend of theirs for a few days to sightseeing. The room as typical New York City small, but we all fit in OK. Relatively up to date, and well-designed considering there is so little space to work with. We had the smallest two-bed room on the floor, and we still fit. Service was great. When we parked the car, the valet warned that it would take 30 to 45 minutes to get the car out when we left, but it was there when we walked out the door! Better to set a slower expectation, then have them beat it. It was very nice that we could check out the morning of our last day, go explore the city some more, then come back for our luggage and our car. The folks there are all very nice, even when it was a super busy time of year.

"Nice lobby, old small outdated dirty rooms"
Bug problem in our first two rooms, third room was bug free however the bathroom was literally the smallest bathroom I have ever seen. staff was horrible. Valet could not speak English and had no regard for your time. Rooms were grungy and outdated.
