"Hotel close to Penn Station N.Y."
Elevators are horrible; you can wait all day for them. Rooms, though clean, need major updating- paint, etc.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very Convenient Location"
Nice hotel--not terrific. But you can't beat the location for getting around Manhattan. We were in Times Square in 5 minutes without all the noise there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a Midtown Fan"
Aside from the realization that staying right across from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station is not my cup of tea, the room at the Affinia Manhattan was akin to an expensive prison cell. The room was incredibly tiny with a little window that had a box AC. The room was clean but the vent had about 3/4 of an inch of dust. I had stayed at the Affinia […] Shelburne by the UN (Lex & 38th) and the overall experience there was much better than here. The front desk staff when we first checked in was a bit abrupt. I can forgive him for that-after all, we're in New York, but each time I called downstairs, no one ever answered the phone. (I called twice to ask for extra towels and to ask for concierge help with restaurants.) The bell and door staff were fine--very helpful and the lobby looks impressive. Very disappointed in the room. I definitely recommend finding another property outside of Midtown unless you like the noise, filth, and overall unpleasant nature of the area. Everyone seems to recommend staying in Midtown because of its proximity to things. In reality, everything you'd care to go to would be a cab ride. Be prepared to shell out $10-$20 in cab fare unless you like long walks. You'll want to stay somewhere that will feel like a respite from busy Manhattan central. "A little shabby (for the price) but great staff"
As I arrived there had been an issue meaning they put me into a different type of room to my booking, a sort of studio appartment. This was less grand than it sounds and could have done with a handyman spending a day in the room. It was hardly cause for complaint but a little disappointing as I had paid a fair amount based on my normal budget for a […] treat, however they automatically gave me free wifi for the inconvenience which saved me a bit. I also had some flight issues and the concierge desk was incredibly helpful Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

It was just great... I would definitely recommend this hotelGenuine Expedia guest review
"very spacious comfortable rooms"
We booked two rooms and they were both very comfortable. Did not expect a sofa bed in each which was a plus. Bathrooms are tiny but if that means the room is bigger, then it's just fine. The tub showed it's age and the mirror was located in a strange spot so it was difficult to use. The bathroom door has a large mirror on the outside of it. All in all […] we were very impressed. The staff were super nice and remembered your name. I would definitely visit the hotel again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Opposite Madison Square Garden"
I was a bit disappointed for the last 3 days of my stay as the air conditioner was not working in the lobby and this was the place to get the free wi fi. Then the free wi fi wasn't working for 2 days so that a was an inconvenience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"One of the best hotels we have ever stayed!"
We stayed in Affinia for a week with two kids, and want to share with you that it is one of the best hotels you can ever have in New York. The location is very convenient: Penn State is across the street, where you have subway 1,2,3, and other lines (I forgot because we did not use the other lines). Broadway and Times Square are a few blocks away, within […] walking distance even with kids. A very rich options of all types of restaurants. We did our parking with the hotel garage which is right there with an affordable price, $30 for 24 hours. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice overnight stay"
Staying overnight for a concert @ MSG. It is right across the street which made it very convenient. Valet parking was $50 for 24 hrs which is crazy to me but apparently for the area it was very reasonable. Was a very hot day and the lobby and elevators were very hot. At the time they were doing elevator maintenance so the number of them were limited. […] That meant they stopped on nearly every floor, were packed in many times, and terribly hot. The AC unit in the room was barely keeping up but adequate. Booked the room for three people and had two beds so I requested a roll-away bed which was provided. I assumed it would not be an extra charge as the room was booked for three adults but I was charged an additional $30 and nobody mentioned that until I saw the bill. That was fine I guess but I would have expected them to mention the additional charge or provide it free of charge due to booking the room for three. All in all we were pleased with our stay. Staff was friendly and accommodating and we will not hesitate to book again in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to time square"
Location was key to our stay, from that standpoint this met the expectations. Another plus was we had a view of 7th street which was great in the night. The hotel looks far better in pictures, than in reality. We had to wait 15 minutes in line for elevators, this could be solved if the all the elevators were functional. The hallway carpets were wornout […] and show age. The bathroom attached to the bedroom has a glass wall on one side which will disturb others sleeping. Hotel is noisy with street traffic, used the suppiled ear plugs which helped. Would prefer other hotel in future, ok for one night stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great value in Midtown"
If you are arriving via train, this is a great option - nice property, close to everything in midtown, nice value. The concierge was very helpful in finding a very nice restaurant for us for dinner.Genuine Expedia guest review
Stayed at the Affinia Manhattan June 26th - July 1 2014. The location is excellent. The room was a bit dirty-the bathroom shower drain was rusted and dirty-the shower tile was dirty and worn-shower floor sloped downward toward drain making it a bit treacherous. The hotel double billed us. When we checked out we paid cash, but the Affinia Manhattan simultaneously […] took the money off of the credit card as well! They said they would put the money back on the credit card immediately but we found out it would not go back on the card for two weeks! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok hotel but not worth the money."
This hotel was close to everything, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, the Fire Department, and bum row. The view from our 7th floor room was a building in the Garment District. On the sidewalk directly below us were about 50 homeless people sleeping along the building. I realize this is a problem everywhere, but I specifically asked for a room on […] a higher floor with a decent view. When we arrived in our room we opened the sofa bed and the mattress was filthy with hair and crumbs. We called down to the front desk and a maintenance man arrived very quickly. He brought sheets with him and left and said he would be back with a vacuum. Twenty minutes later a different maintenance man came back with more sheets. When we asked him to clean the bed he said it was too late to clean the bed it would wake the other guests. (We had a flight delay and arrived around midnight.) He suggested just putting the sheets on top of the dirt. EW!!!! We had to argue with him until he finally cleaned the mattress with a vacuum and then made the bed. The rest of the room was mostly clean, but it seems the New York City standards of clean are much lower then in other parts of the country. When I pointed out the dirt in other areas of the room the maintenance man could not see what the problem was. During most of our stay the elevators were very slow, and it was impossible to get in an elevator to the lobby in the mornings. We used the stairs a lot! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Googled hotel name. Made reservation by phone. Believed I was talking to hotel. Asking person on phone, if I was calling the actual hotel. Our first assigned room was shocking. The urine smell was overwhelming. The bathroom wasn't cleaned. Dust was on the lampshades and night table. As it was mid-June, we couldn't believe the A/C wasn't working and made a strange sound. We asked for an upgrade to a suite and they asked us to pay $100 a day more. The suite had a baby pen and a highchair […] in the middle of the living area. There were many chips on the cabinets. There was no A/C in the bedroom. We did not have kids with us. The suite was dark and worn. It wasn't a good upgrade. Our in-laws were given a beautiful suite with a terrace after they complained about the suite they were first assigned. Finally, we were given another room which was ok. The bathroom tiles had black mold on half the wall but the next day we were pleased that the staff removed the mold without us asking. We have stayed at the Affinia Dumont and no problems. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the from. Ours was billed as a "deluxe" room and had a string room, bedroom with king bed, kitchenette and two bathrooms. "Perfect place to stay in Manhattan."
This is the fifth time I have stayed at the Affinia which makes it officially my hotel of choice. The staff is always incredibly accommodating. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. It is a bit pricey but split amongst friends makes it affordable; and the one room suite makes it possible. I would highly recommend.Genuine Expedia guest review
"very small rooms"
can you call me because we booked through you and our friends booked directly with the hotel and they had a beautiful suite like room and ours for the same price was like as small as a closet and the smell was very musty. I know you pride yourself on having the best price but this was one of the worse stays you booked for us at an unbelieveable high […] rate. I was going to call to complain to you but we were so busy that time did not allow. My roommate took care of the situation and the hotel was very accommodating to help us with our problem. I stayed here because I needed a hotel close to Penn station and the reviews were pretty good. I was in room 321. The condition of the room was horrible and gross. The water coming from the sink and shower was BROWN!! The carpet was dirty. The plug by the desk was an extension cord. There wasn't a mirror over the sink in the bathroom. The shower was […] cracked and had mold. The shower had large bottles of soap hanging on the wall that included 1 bottle of shower gel and 2 bottles of conditioner. There was no shampoo. "Gorgeous hotel and central location"
We really enjoyed our stay here at the Affinia. The hotel location is really central, right opposite Madison Square Garden and conveniently located close to several subway stations and a couple of lines, which make transport very easy. Our room was spacious by New York standards and well appointed. The only complaint would be that ambient outside noise […] would come in through the air conditioning unit and make it seem like the unit was on, even though it wasn't. However there was a notice on the bedside table that ear plugs could be supplied upon request. The staff were always very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay here. "Nice size room. Good location to express train"
The hotel had a cool lobby and the room was a nice size- no bath though, just a small shower. The bathroom was very tiny. We did have a problem the day we arrived- we arrived around 10:45 pm. The pull-out was not made up for our kids. It took a long time for housekeeping to come up to make the second bed- after many phone calls to check on status, housekeeping […] arrived well after midnight. Convenient location, 1/2 block walk from Penn Station. Will hold luggage if you get there before check in. Got a room upgrade. Comfortable room. Bathroom needed to be outdated, tub glazing coming off, shower broken and wall paper coming down.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great weekend stay, meeting up with friends from overseas. The location cannot be beat as a transportation hub, but the neighborhood does not have great character. Right across the street from Madison Square Gardens. Easy access to subway. Icemaker was broken on our floor ; so had to go up or down 2 flites to get ice. First time in New York, traveling with husband and two kids, we found our room very confortable. Spacious enough for the four of us. The best feature I would say its location. "Might as well have slept in a doorway"
In fifteen years of almost constant travel, this was the most sleepless night ever encountered. The noise level in the front rooms of this old hotel is unacceptable. Horns honked all night, construction went on all night. Just a disaster. "Worst Hotel Experience Ever"
Affinia Hotel is a great place to stay if you have plans to attend events in or near Madison Square Gardens.(*MSG) Although you might as well sleep on the bench in front of MSG, because the noise in room 1705 was so loud you can't get any rest. This hotel shouldn't rate more than 2 stars at best. Old and antiquated building, elevators are functional […] at best, bathrooms are tiny, electrical plugs don't work, secured soap & shampoo bottles in shower don't dispense, window units from the 60's, super loud due to fire station beside hotel on W 31st street makes it impossible to get any sleep. "convenient but service lacking"
it was certainly nice to come out at Penn station and the hotel right across the street. my first thought when I walked in was that they must have gotten a photographer to make everything look bigger and nicer than it actually is. check in was slow and unorganized. I chose a studio suite, and while it did have everything I would need, it was still […] a little small. I was on the 3rd floor and there was this ghetto looking terrace view from my window which could give you access to the terrace, but the window was impossible to lock. I called the front desk and they said they would send an engineer to fix it. I waited a long, time and they didn't show, so I had to leave and trust they would fix it. also, the window AC unit had issues and you couldn't control the settings.
