"quick family getaway"
The hotel was great, the only problem was the nearby rooms. Its a pet friendly hotel and people's dogs were barking in the middle of the night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Location...Average Rooms"
I'm told that for Big Bear, this hotel is one of the better ones...that said, I would call this lodge average. Definitely nothing fancy. My family and I stayed in one of the cabins. The rooms were small for a family of 4, with a dog. The fireplace was just for show, it didn't let off any heat. The bathroom was very small, with a very large shower. However, […] the shower had no light fixture, therefore you almost felt as if you were taking a shower in the dark. My kids were going to sleep on the murphy bed, however, I don't think the sheets had been changed since the last guest because there were stray hairs all over the sheets. Good thing we brought sleeping bags and extra blankets. I do have to say that the kitchen was full size, which was great; the staff was very attentive and the view of the lake was wonderful. We just walked across the street to the lake. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pick a different hotel."
the hotel never got the reservation info and blamed It on hotels.com. I had 3 adults, one child and a dog and the hotel took a "oh well" attitude. Hotels.com however was very accommodating and offered a new hotel and vouchers for the inconvenience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice weekend at the Big bear Frontier"
We had a nice stay and the room was great. The hotel is in a good location right on the lake. The only concern I had was when I heard a dog in a neighboring room bark, but it only happened once - if we had noisy neighbors it might have been a drag because the walls seemed pretty thin. Id definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Will not stay here again."
This room was so old and dingy. The bed was not comfortable and the walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors. The fireplace is wood burning and there is no wood. Would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Spring for an upgrade"
I reserved a one-bedroom chalet on hotels.com and asked for a cabin (cabin 6) I had stayed in the last time I made the same reservation and stayed at Big Bear Frontier not realizing that I had received a free upgrade to a delux chalet. Needless to say, I was initially disappointed with how small the cabin I was initially given (think it was 206) and […] after talking with the front desk, I gladly paid for an upgrade to Cabin 5. The first cabin was very clean but very cramped to the point it was difficult to figure out where to put luggage. Cabins 5 and 6 are very large (could comfortably sleep 4-5 people), roomier kitchens (functional unlike smaller cabins), have little porches, and have large spa jetted bathtubs in addition to the small showerstalls of the other cabins which is a plus when it is cold! "Nice Little Cabin"
This is a nice little cabin. It's in the middle of the city of Big Bear, so you're not out in the wilderness. The cabin I stayed in didn't have a lake view from inside, but I could see the lake from the porch. The cabin I stayed in had a kitchen and had all the pots and dishes needed to make and eat a meal. The tub took forever to fill, and the cabin […] was on the older side. Even thought it was clean, it still felt dirty. But you're out in the woods so it's what's to be expected. It was so wonderful staying in a Chalet! The Big Bear Frontier is walking distance to the main street in Big Bear! The only disappointment was having an electronic fireplace rather than a wood fireplace like the other chalets. Otherwise it was great!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Noisy downstairs rooms - beware!"
Friendly, neat and great location BUT the quality of the lower level rooms completely unacceptable in terms of noise. The hollowness of the floor between the two levels is a sleep depriving nightmare - both during waking and sleeping. Clunk, clunk, clunk and creaking floor boards, every time the guests upstairs walked. I wore ear plugs and was still […] wakened every time they moved. Its a shame because everything else was pretty nice, from the super friendly front desk staff to the great location and clean and neat interior. Oh well, just avoid the downstairs rooms at all cost! "Great weekend escape"
My husband and I love this hotel! It's so cozy and easy- perfect for a little getaway. We love it's proximity to the lake, and the fact that there are grills and picnic tables outside, and even a little area on the patio to sit and have breakfast! To top it off, we get to bring our doberman for only a $15 charge! Love it!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice cozy hotel, with nice room. Only thing missing was an inside table, but we took in the outside table from the balcony.(It was below 40 at night.)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"best romantic get away"
when we got there the room was spotless and it smelled great. my fiance and i were staying in the cabin and it was perfect for just us 2. we shared a patio in the middle of the two cabins and the neighbors were nice! the only thing that was wrong with the room was the last few blinds on the glass door were broken but we called the front desk and they […] fixed them right away. the room had everything we needed from cups and plates and pans down to the soap and sponges. the hotels and cabins are in a great location right by the village so you can literally walk to everything! "Nice Cabins, Great Location"
We stayed in a cabin which was clean, spacious and comfortable. The only hitch was is was too close to the main road through town which made for a lot of vehicle noise so try to get a room closer to the lake. Yes, the hotel is on the lake,.. The hotel is also a short walk to shopping and places to eat. There is spool, basketball court, and picnic tables […] with grills. We had a very good experience. The place is nice and close to everything especially the lake. The only problems we had were the toilet is so tiny (I think heavier people would not fit in there especially the shower enclosure, the faucet in the shower was so faucet to pull and turn on and the TV set needs to be changed. Nice people at the desk. The room was ok and not too noisy. Car parking was nice too. Wi Fi was hard to keep it seemed like. Couldn't lock onto it very well at times. The rooms somewhat out dated. Tiny little ceiling fan. That was funny... It was ok. A. 3 outta 5 star probably. The cowboy steak house up the street sucked..Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Perfectly great place for a reasonable price! Location is great, ambiance is so quaint and the mattress was actually heavenly! Don't overpay but stay at Big Bear Frontier and use the money for other fun things to do :)Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Central location, comfy rooms, almost a kitchen"
Clean, comfortable rooms located on the lake shore, very close to Village shops and restaurants (5 minute walk). We stayed in the two-story building located on the marina lake shore. The room was clean and comfortable, and included a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, extra sink, dishes, and cutlery -- almost a full kitchenette (just missing a stove). […] There was also a fireplace, though we didn't use it (end of August). I'd call it an upscale motel room. There's also a nice deck with wooden tables and Adirondack chairs for relaxing by the lake. With the drought, the lake water level was very low, which meant the waterline was a 50 yards farther away, taking some of the charm out of the lakeside. Still a nice place to relax with your coffee in the early morning, or enjoy the last rays of the sun. The very friendly, helpful front desk staff were great. They definitely made our stay a better experience than the facilities alone would have. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful view, amazing location...I was miserable"
Have you ever stayed at a hotel and loved everything about it but had to leave because your stay was absolutely miserable? Well this is the place. The room had a view that overlooked Big Bear Lake (amazing). The room had a fireplace and the decor was nice (awesome). In the morning i walked to the downtown area and had a great cup of coffee (love it). […] But....I was so miserably hot i had to leave early. When we arrived and saw there was no air-conditioning we flipped a lid. I couldn’t sleep and could hardly breathe. "Quaint, peaceful cabin near the lake."
My fiancé and I wanted to get away from LA and thought a quick escape to Big Bear would do the job. We rented a 1 bedroom cabin. The cabin although a little on the small side had everything we needed. The landscaping and cabin were very clean and cozy. My only two grips with our particular cabin was the queen size bed (not so comfortable and uneven […] - weird mattress pad) and we did not have a front porch light. Coming to the cabin at night was a pain, couldn't see jack and it was a little weird sitting on the chairs at night in the pitch dark without any porch light. Other than that, this made our second trip to big bear staying at the same place. Staff is super friendly and the cabins are all pet friendly which we love. We will definitely be back but next time opt to get a bigger cabin. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A fun cabin-y experience in Big Bear"
I took my three kids to Big Bear. We stayed in a one-bedroom cabin for 5 days at Big Bear Frontier, and had a great time. The cabin looks like a pre-fab building rather than a woodsy cabin from the outside, but the inside had a log cabin interior, with lots of natural wood accents, cowboy-type lamps and beds, and a simple kitchen. It was listed as having […] one bedroom and a sofa sleeper, but the cabin had an additional room in the front, with a single bed, so it actually sleeps 5 people. Outside the cabin is a small bistro-type round table and two chairs, but also a great grass area with a large picnic table and BBQ area just for each cabin. The whole complex is nice, if in a roadside motel kinda way. All the cabins are connected by driveways, and people park in front of their cabin, so it has a auto-centric feel, but with lots of grass, pine trees, pool/jacuzzi, ping pong table, and a nice lodge-type front office, it felt more like a cabin in the woods than a roadside motel. Down the driveway and across a road is a large deck area overlooking the lake, with more picnic tables, umbrellas, and a row of adirondack chairs that added to the "cabins by the lake" feel. Overall, it was great, if not upscale! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Located next to The Village--tourist center with lots of shops and restaurants. Within walking distance of marina, bowling alley, and park. Convenient! Room was nicely done in knotty pine. "Great location, great staff."
On arrival with my 5 year old nephew i discovered i had booked a tiny studio cabin, i hadn't done enough research so my problem, the staff were very kind, tried to find me another cabin but they were fully booked that weekend, they also researched other hotels in the area for me. In the end we decided to make do and it was fine. The bathroom was very […] small and perhaps could have done with a deep clean in the corners etc, also keep your elbows tucked in when you wash your face, very small, but for location and price i can't complain. The bed and kitchen were good and functional. Kitchen fully stocked with utensils, even dish liquid supplied and paper towels. The pool area was clean and not busy for a very warm weekend. The hotel grounds were very nice, flowers everywhere, well kept. We were a 10 second walk to the lake and kept the ducks well fed, beautiful. Everyone there was friendly. I would gladly stay here again, but perhaps splash out on a larger cabin on the lake just for the view and comfort. Great weekend - thank you. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The room I had was a good size and tastefully decorated. It had windows that open, a fan in the room, and a real wood fireplace. Bathroom wasn't too modern, but was a good size. Took my boyfriend to Big Bear to celebrate his birthday. This hotel was in a great spot, on the lake and within walking distance to The Village. The lake isn't swimmable, it's pretty dirty on this side but it is a nice place to have a beer and stare at the beautiful lake. Can't see the sunset from this side of the lake unfortunately. We only had to […] take our car out once to get to the Castle Rock hike and China Island but aside from that we were able to walk everywhere. There is a excellent BBQ place across the street that is open Fri-Sun and there is a passable steakhouse right next door. We stayed in a suite with jetted tub. The bathtub was so nice to relax in at the end of the day. The beds were comfortable and we loved the mountain vibe of the room. Everything was made of wood which we loved! The only thing we were upset about is that our shower temperature never got hot, it always stayed luke warm. Overall, we were really happy with this hotel! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Big Bear is rustic."
Don't expect any place to be 5 star in Big Bear. However, The Frontier is in a great location, and their beach and deck are a definite plus and provide a nice experience by the lake.Their rooms are clean, and "woodsy". Since we had an upstairs room, which we normally prefer, it was unbearably warm. We realize that A/C is not usual in the mountains, […] but the fans they provided were totally inadequate, and the sole reason we were there was to escape the heat of home. It would be nice if some portable coolers had been available. We plan to rent one of their little cabins next time...they looked charming. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice place to stay"
I thought the hotel was at a great location, right off the lake and very close to The Village, the main strip in Big Bear Lake. Although, to walk to The Village the first half is a little scary as there are no sidewalks. However, this is only for about 5 minutes or so. The bathroom was clean but could definitely use an upgrade. The only thing I absolutely […] didn't like about the room was the bed. I couldn't sleep either of my two nights because the mattress was so hard and the pillows had no cushion. All in all the hotel is not a bad option for a budgeted traveler. "Studio Cabin (Cabin #23)"
This is based on the Studio Cabin #23, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Great location and nice distance away from the lake. You're in the middle of the complex, so access to the pool or public eating area is decent. Nice shady areas outside of cabin. Bathroom is EXTREMELY tight. I'm a slender man and I found the bathroom claustrophobic. You'll […] have a hard time opening the door without hitting yourself, or getting in the way of the sink, toilet or shower. Also, this particular cabin is near the public road, so you might hear the occasional traffic or have lights shining in at night. Size of the room is decent, but then again, I had my son with me and I wouldn't suggest it for more than 2 people. Small kitchenette with a microwave, stove, and mini-fridge available in the foyer. Overall, it was good (but not great) for what it was and what we needed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very good overall...hotel was great for the 4th of July and was very convenient with easy access to the beach. Our family had two rooms and they both had ceiling fans as well as large plug-in floor plans (probably in response to all the prior reviews). Only real complaint: the beds are horrible.
