Affinia Dumont Midtown

A short guide to Midtown

Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.

We had a one bedroom suite, roomy and comfortable, the furniture could sometimes be refreshed though. Nice kitchen, very comfortable beds and pillows, small bathroom. We did not have much of a view, being only on the 10th floor with a backyard view, yet it was very quiet and silent for New York. This suite is perfect when you have children with you. Ask for upper levels. The neighbourhood is very convenient, Murray Hill dinner for simple, convenient food, and good breakfast, The Barking Dog Café is quite nice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and at the corner of Lexington and 34th there is a nice Thai restaurant. The Murray Hill market is at the corner for groceries, and the subway station very close. Overall, a good and convenient hotel.

I am very satisfied with Affinia Dumont. The small of the hotel is perhaps one one the best things, it smells like a spa, a slight fruity fragrance not at all overwhelming. My husband and I traveled with my 5 year old son and 13 year old daughter, we stayed in a 1 bedroom suite on the 24th floor. The room was spacious with a small kitchenette. The hotel was nicely located with several good restaurants and a few coffee shops within one block either way. There is also a great corner store a few steps away with an array of yummy food and any items you may need to pick up on your stay.

DVD player available on request. A terrific gym. Great location. You can find more than 1 French, Thai, Indian, Italian, icecream, deli restaurants all within 1 block. Affinia did not disappoint! Considering that the cost is rather high, the rooms are well appointed and if you are prepared, you can save a bunch on breakfast and snacks with the kitchenette that has everything that you require. I was working at the UN and it was about a 15 minute walk away...perfect on a cool March Morning! Rooms are well appointed although a flat screen on the wall would be so much better than the bulky hotel TV. That said, who goes to NYC to watch TV? Little noisy on the lower floors but I sleep like the dead so no problem there. Great products in the bathroom so if you are a carry on traveler, don't bother bringing your stuff as the Aveda products are just divine! Overall, a great place to stay and would do so again when next in NYC!

This was an excellent hotel. We were a bit nervous about the size of the room having heard that space was scarse in NYC, but this room was great! We had a small kitchen, a well spaced bathroom and a bedroom with a desk, lounge chair and two bedside tables plus room to move around! There was no shampoo in the room, but when I called they promptly brought a three week supply up. The staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel was so close to so many attractions. It is literally down the street from the Empire State Building and Times Square.

Great neighborhood, nice room, loved having the kitchenette. My complaint is that this hotel bills itself as a hotel for business travelers - there is a steep fee for internet in the room & no coffee machine in the kitchen (though one may be requested). In general, I wish that hotels would include such basic business accommodations without being charged an additional fee... I'd much rather pay a higher room rate and not be nickeled & dimed.

Having stayed at 5 star hotels and paying 3 to 4 times the price this one was a great deal. Room was nice size(mini-suite) and comfortable. Staff was excellent and our requests were taken care of faster than at some of the 5 star hotels. Bathrooms are small but adequate and the furniture in the rooms could use some updating but it was not worn or threadbare. We expected turndown service but did not have it the first night and were told we needed to request it. The remainder of the stay we did and it was done. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Murray Hill and will probably return but I would take the full suite if available for the few extra dollars.

Bought this hotel on sale and paid a fair price. Was on 5th Floor...would liked to have been higher and had bought a Junior Suite with the hopes of a better view. However, room was nicely appointed. The kitchen is great - was able to have breakfast daily without paying NYC prices. I was placed in an "access" room but the funny thing is while the shower was built for a wheelchair, the wash basin was so high that I could hardly reach over it and the shaving mirror did not adjust for the person of the shorter stature. They need to get a flat-screen in the room as the TV was a bit dated and if you wanted to listen to music, hotels of similar price would have a place for your player. However, had a corner room...quite quiet for NYC, great check in and out and easy to get a Taxi. Was on business to the UN so easy to walk or taxi anywhere. Great restaurants in the area and only a couple of blocks from Empire State. All in all a good hotel - a little pricey but the kitchen is a bonus and does save a little if you can find a grocery store that does not charge NYC prices *grin*

Great location on 34th street, especially if you are coming from LaGuardia. Room was bigger than most in NYC. Comfortable bed and pillows. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room had a kitchenette, which we didn't need. But we took advantage of the full-size fridge by loading it up with water and other snacks. The only downside was the cost to access the Internet. A little surprising, given how many other hotels these days don't charge for wireless service. Overall, it was a good visit and we'd go back to the hotel.

My mom, and her friends stayed at this hotel and they had a wonderful relaxing day in the spacious sitting area, shopped at the deli next door, enjoyed the great restaurant Barking Dog..excepional service) located in the Murray Hill area...great location, away from chaos of city. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Great for business travelers....exceptional working space!

This hotel rocks! Waaaaay exceeded expectations. Room was clean and spacious. Service was outstanding, really friendly and helpful. Location was perfect, with the subway about a block away. Gym had state of the art equipment. Did I mention I had a kitchenette? In Manhattan? Great deal, plan on staying there again.

We expected a suites hotel in New York to consist of two tiny rooms, and so we were delighted our suite was the size of a one bedroom apartment, with a roomy bedroom and a living room with a pullout couch. The full kitchen made it feasible to prepare breakfast and light meals. There was no dining area, however, making proper meals impractical. Service was what you would expect from a full service hotel. The staff were pleasant and efficient. We had to call numerous times for relatively small things - extra coffee, sheets for the pullout couch, etc. Although a few times a second call was needed, they always responded. It is a residential neighborhood and so has plenty of amenties nearby such as grocery, drug and liquor stores, although the selection of restaurants is not stellar. We would definitely come back.

The Affinia Dumont is near everything you need, one block from a subway, and parking if you know where to find it. The rooms are quite large for NYC. My only complaint was that in my suite, the bedroom heater didn't work (the living room heater did).

This hotel is excellent, from the service on the front desk, to our great room. We booked a Junior Suite, it was large & comfortable, with its own kitchenette. The room was well equipped, with a large queen bed, desk area & sofa, plenty of space for the 2 of us. The bathroom was clean and well maintained, but by far the best feature of our room were the fabulous double aspect views across the city. We were on the 29th floor and our room was on the corner, we had a great view of the Chrysler building. A great hotel, well positioned for sightseeing, but quiet enough for a good night's sleep.
