"Alles in ordnung"

Staff was kind, breakfast was good a cheaper than most hotels. My room had a slight smell of cigarette that was gone after opening the big window.

"Nice value for the money"

During my visit to Cologne, I spent two nights in Hotel Allegro. It's very nicely located and close to pretty much everything in the city center. Well, Cologne is the small city, but anyway ... Rooms and hotel in general are clean. Service and staff are very nice and helpful. Hotel provides their own parking space (in the garage in front) for 12eur per day. I know, it's not cheap, but at least it's in the garage and always available. Hotel also provides a 7euro breakfast which is very nice for that money. I would recommend people to take the breakfast (at least for one day). Bayerische pastry is perfect! :) One thing that I didn't really like was that our room was looking towards the river, but there is a big street with a lot of traffic between hotel and river so it gets quite noisy when window is opened and it needs to be opened from time to time. Ask for a room looking at the other side (parking). One other thing is that windows (especially on 3rd floor) are quite small so rooms can be quite dark, but this didn't really matter that much to me since I was out the whole day and only sleapt in the hotel. In general, I liked this hotel and if I go to Cologne again, I will try to stay in this hotel.
"Not quite what I was expecting."

Good points - comfy bed even though it was a single, decent bathroom, nice toiletries, cute hallway, food at the restaurant next door was pretty good, breakfast was varied. Location was good for the river where there are wonderful restaurants and the chocolate museum. Downsides - noisy even through the night with loud traffic noise, slanted roofs that would have been a big problem for anyone taller than me or if I had been drinking, lots of noise from other rooms - when someone removes their clothes from the hanger they rock back and sound like a slamming door. The restaurant is not really part of the hotel but a pub next door, food was good and cooked to order but the service was unsmiling and er... "shruggy" if you know what I mean. To get to the river you have to walk under a bridge which wasn't something I was keen on as a solo female traveller and I didn't really feel like going out for a walk in the evening from this location although probably going South down the river would be quite pleasant. Coffee was terrible, really really terrible - I couldn't even drink it so headed to Starbucks for breakfast the next two mornings - much better value. Desk staff were a very mixed bag, one chap who was lovely and extremely helpful, a lady who was very flat and an older gentleman who was very put out to come and have to deal with my safe - he was a bit nicer when he realised that it really was malfunctioning and I wasn't just being stupid - but don't leave getting your passport out of the safe until the last minute. I wouldn't stay here again because I thought I would enjoy the quaint Bavarian room but the charm wasn't enough to make up for the downsides, if I have to stay in Cologne again I may well look for a new design hotel or large chain.
"Pleasant, central, clean, value hotel"

Having stayed in a number of hotels in this area, I must say I really liked this one. I got a special offer through trivago which resulted in the hotel only costing me around €20 for the night. The room was clean, the bed was really comfy, the bathroom was immaculate. While the staff were not overly friendly, they weren't rude, I guess I expected a little more from them though. The security guard who let me in at 3am was nice to me, and friendly. Location wise, this hotel is perfect. It ir right on the river, a short walk from shopping, the Altstadt, pubs/ clubs, the Dom (Cathedral), Chocolate museum and everything else this amazing city has to offer. I didn't eat breakfast, therefore cannot comment on that. I would stay in this hotel again, especially if I got it for the price I did!
"Lovely, well located hotel"

I've just come back from a sunny and very relaxed weekend break in Cologne at the Hotel Allegro with my husband. The hotel is really well situated, right on the river with only a short stroll to the old town, cathedral etc. It is on a main road, however the noise was minimal, which is good as we're light sleepers! In a taxi it is about 20 minutes with clear roads from the airport - the cost was Euro28. The hotel isn't huge but we weren't looking for one with shops, gyms etc. The lift was very small - luckily we didn't have suitcases otherwise we'd have had to go up and down twice. We were on the 3rd floor in the eaves with a view over the river. The room was of a good size with a small sitting area. The style was more country comfort than urban cool but that's fine with me! The beds were very comfortable - a slight negative was that they were two singles pushed together with single duvets - not a big problem but would have preferred a double. In terms of practicalities - it's very clean with a good sized (if a little dark) bathroom. There is phone, tv and free wifi and hairdryer. There were no tea/coffee making facilities or iron (although they brought an iron to the room on request). The safe takes some working out and best to practice without your valuables in it! The breakfast has gone up to Euro 7.50 but was still very good value for what we got (a good selection of hot and cold options). The staff we dealt with were all helpful and very pleasant. In terms of the location, it couldn't have been better for us. The old town is in very easy walking distance and we took a lovely long walk along the pretty river up to the zoo on the Sunday morning (huge huge long queues, we didn't bother). The chocolate museum is about 5 minutes away - worth a visit (although for anyone who's been to Cadburyworld, it's more educational than fun and there's far less free chocolate!) even if it's to go to the fantastic shop. This is a really pleasant, decent place to stay. I didn't see any children in the hotel while we were there and possibly as it had a couples and business folk vibe we wouldn't come back as family. However as a couple, I would definitely come again.

I normally stay at the Novotel when in Cologne but they were fully booked for this last trip. In a mad scramble I searched for an alternative and decided upon Hotel Allegro. Upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised with the standard of the room and the overall service that I received. The staff were extremely helpful and I have to agree with another reviewer that the breakfast represented great value for money. There is a restaurant right next door or several within 5 minutes walk. When I am next back in Cologne I will definitely be looking to stay again.

4 of us riding our motorcycles through Europe, turn up on a Friday afternoon looking for 2 rooms and secure garaging for the bikes. No issues on either account. Rooms were comfortable and a good nights sleep had by all. Amazing help was on hand when 1 of the bikes failed to start and 1 of the group had to stay a further night whilst recovery was sorted.
"Comfortable, well-located and AMAZING breakfast"

This hotel is located right on the river and is well-positioned for sight-seeing. Their parking lot was full so we parked across the street at the Martim, which was pretty pricey, but not obscene. The room was pretty old fashioned in terms of decor, but clean and comfortable. There's no A/C but the window opens and there is an oscillating fan. The best part was the 5 euro breakfast. They had EVERYTHING you could think of: meats, cheeses, eggs, juices, coffees, teas and even caviar. We never ate so well again for the rest of our trip through Germany.

Good hotel, good location. Rooms a bit small and no airco. We paid 5,- extra for th breakfast. It was a buffet and was good. Fresh fruit juices an bread. We parked our car in a garage directly behind th hotel.
