First room was a disaster with mold on the ceiling and 70's rusty appliances. We had to upgrade to better looking suite for additional fee/night. I liked the location right on the beach and in quiet family oriented neighborhood.

Overall I think the hotel could use an overhaul for the price paid. Rooms were comfortable enough, but they could use a few coats of paint and a more thorough cleaning. The safe in the room did not work, so we did not feel comfortable leaving valuables in the room. Also, the wireless internet access is a joke. If you are lucky, you might find a spot […] or two in your room where your smartphone might pick up a signal...but wireless...forget it. More or less, you are paying for convenient beach access. The hotel was very nice; a lot of amenities; loved the free waterpark and burger and hotdog lunches. The room though considered an Oceanview and not an Oceanfront had a great view and was very comfortable and attractive. We did not maid service one morning, but in all fairness, we did sleep in and step out later in the day so probably just missed out. […] The frontdesk staff was very accomodating and let some very weary and early guests get into their room a couple of hours before the official check-in time. I believe the staff had to do a bit of juggling and room changing to do so and we very grateful as we had travelled through the wee hours from Virginia. The hotel is only barely worth 2 stars. It has a musty smell through out. We were disappointed with the staff when we could not get any extra towels on the first day; with children this is very important. The second day, no extra towels and there was no wash cloths left after the freshing attempt on our room. Hotel staff's response upon our inquiry […] "The hotel has run out". This hotel is old and worn; so, if you want something stylish and immaculate, this place is not for you. HOWEVER, for the money it's a real value and a great place to stay. (The staff was perfectly pleasant and helpful too.) The positives: right on the beach, indoor/outdoor pools plus separate lazy river, Ocean Annie's (outdoor bar and bands) and two […] restaurants--all right downstairs, just steps away from your room. Also, free passes to two water parks. The small one is close by; but, if you don't mind driving 30 minutes, the big one is GREAT! Make it a whole day trip (and FREE). My kids enjoyed all of these things thoroughly (OK, not the bar.) I think they also offer a free day trip on a boat. The negatives: Since these units are individually owned, I'm not sure how consistent the interiors are. Our room was clean, bug free, and everything worked but it was old and shabby and the beds were uncomfortable. In this hotel each room is individually owned so the upkeep and remodeling is subject to the owners discretion. The first room we were given was in terrible shape. The carpet was stained and dirty. not so great for you if you have little ones and want to go to bed early. If i left the kids at home it would have been a perfect to hang out and drink. Seems like most of the guests were doing that as well as smoking on the beach. Which I am not a big fan of especially with my kids around. The hotel staff were GREAT!

Good location..... Parking was a bit of a mess as parking keys did not always work. Hotel was in fair condition . We specifically requested a non smoking room and our room reeked ! They could /would not accommodate a change. We were most impressed with breakfast! Very good and a great selection . Again, for the money I felt we got what we paid for.

reserved effeciency with pull out couch through hotel.com, when we arrived room did not have a pull out couch, was told by front desk that no rooms have a pull out couch, even though it showed one on the website, and our next door's neighbors room had one. Was given a cot instead. Someone's lying!!! Anyway, someone vomited outside all over walk way, […] told front desk, 4 hour later another worker noticed it and only threw a pail of water over it, it was dried on and discusting. Had to beg for shampoo and soap,. On the positive, the beds were comfortable, the ocean view was great, the place had a lot to offer in entertainment bands playing outside at bar, 2 pools and whirlpool. Location was right on beach and sand was nice. Awesome display of fireworks and enjoyed 1 dollar hot dogs and hamburgers. Would stay again. Read more

The room was comfortable and clean, however needs some updating. Ocean Annies was a nice bar and had good music. The staff was nice and accommodating. The few problems that did arise were corrected almost immediately. Nice place to stay for the price. Would stay again.

At first, we didn't like our first room because it was supposed to be oceanfront and we couldn't see the ocean very well. We went back to the counter and Arielle hooked us up! She gladly changed our room. The staff is very friendly at Sands Ocean Club. They even opened doors for us! Bobbie was our housekeeper and she rocked. You're basically paying for a view, our room was outdated, poor condition, with mold spots on the walls and ceiling, carpet was atrocious. Balcony furniture consisted of 2 dirty rubbermaid chairs and an even dirtier small plastic table.Hallways reeked of oldness and needed remodeled,elevators were old,slow, and noisy.

This resort is wonderful and such a great value! The staff goes out of their way to make you feel like you are the only person staying there, and this resort offers great deals. With onsite dining and beach access right out of the "back door", this resort ranks at the top of my list for Myrtle Beach vacationing opportunities. WE HAD A BALL !!!

Lots to do right at the hotel-a poolside bar and live band daily, pools, jacuzzi, restaurant, shopping. Sandals Nightclub (Lounge) and Karaoke/Dancing, Concierge, Doormen. I liked the fact that there was someone helping people to park, direct traffic, etc upon arrival. Check-in was a breeze! Having to use the doormen to load and unload the car was ok..but […] we could have done it quicker and got in and out much faster if we had been allowed to do it ourselves. The hallways seemed to be much hotter than the main lobby..maybe the air was turned UP...but it caused the hallways to "smell". I had to major complaints... the room a/c would only allow it to go to 70 degrees and no lower...but the room was HOT, due to temp outside. Also, the 3 elevators on each floor were always very slow...due to the number of people there...AND...the fact that the staff was using the same elevators to go up one floor or down on floor to do cleaning and such...and tied the elevators up....this was VERY frustrating. Check out was NOT fun. We had to go to the front desk and tell them we were ready to leave and needed a luggage cart...and they said it would be about 15 minutes. We started moving our luggage to the car ourselves..1 or 2 bags at a time...and having to stand at the elevator 15 minutes or longer each time. Finally, I asked a bell hop out in the parking lot who did I have to go to...in order to get a cart...he said, I'll go with you...and he helped us. But it took us 1.5 hrs to leave! Read more

Music/band was playing each night. It was loud and could be heard in our hotel room. We couldn't fall asleep until after midnight each night, which is fine if you don't have young children. Our hotel room was very humid, even with the ac turned high and the doors closed tightly. My family went out to the pool early each morning, before 8:00, and all […] the chairs were being reserved with beach towels, even though there are signs posted around asking people not to do that (and the place was empty so no one was even using the chairs). The loud nights and lack of available pool chairs were the most annoying aspects of the hotel. Great experience.. Hotel staff were very nice. Ate twice at the River City Cafe, great food & great service. I stayed on the 17th floor in an oceanfront room & the view was just breath taking. The location is great, right on the beach & not to far away from some attractions. I had a great stay here.

Room was clean but many of the appliances and furniture pieces were very well used and not pretty to look at. Hotel staff is always helpful and friendly. This was our third visit. Love having a live band daily. Kids loved playing in inlet from ocean that forms pond close by.

We had no housekeeping service day 1 or day 2. We had to call to get it even then. Had to request towels and toilet paper, and to remove the trash.. When housekeeping did come they handed a broom to one of the quests to sweep the floor with. hmmm....that was wierd! We called for the bellman to come and it took more than 45 minutes.
