The resort is a nice older resort. It was affordable and I did not expect 4 star accommodations. With a few improvements it could be nice. We stayed at this hotel a few years ago because of its price and location, and I remember the disappointment we felt when we walked into the room. It was very out dated and musty, we were directly above a maintenance area that was very loud, and we were having issues with receiving clean towels and washcloths, but because the hotel was right on the […] beach with an ocean view, we decided that we would stay. We recently booked a room at the Ocean Dunes this year after reading about the recent updates the hotel has made, and once again we were disappointed. There were cobwebs on the ceiling, the carpet was torn, the microwave had extreme burns on the inside, the refrigerator had rust around the bottom, the coffee pot was dirty, the room was dusty, the cable outlet was not secure to the wall, the beds were hard, there were coupon books in the night stand drawer (which I thought was a great gesture, but they expired in 2013), and yes, the room was musty. The hotel staff were great and very professional, the parking was very convenient, and access to the beach was very close and uncomplicated. We were able to get a oceanfront room this year, and the view was breath taking, but that does not make up for the condition of the room. I understand that when a hotel undergoes renovations, it can be a very costly undertaking, but if you are willing to commit to this type of project, its best to spend the extra penny to do it right, than to half do it, and suffer reviews like this. It's priced like a 2 star hotel and you get what you pay for. It's conveniently located and they have a convenience store, pizza place, breakfast place, bars, etc. all on site. The hotel is outdated, but our room was clean and for the off-season price, it worked out ok. HOWEVER....the noise level at night time is ridiculous. "Had a really nice girls weekend"
We really enjoyed our stay. We almost cancelled due to the terrible reviews of this place. I wasn't expecting much, so when I walked in and found a beautiful , spacious room (with two bathrooms-WHAT) Our room was really nice. We had a one bedroom suite in tower 2. We had a nice view of the ocean. Had soft and firm pillows. a nice little (FULL) kitchen […] area equipped with a mini four eyed stove, oven, toaster, mini fridge with freezer, glasses, plates, pots, pans, AND a blender :) Our room was mostly clean. There were some type of crumbs on the chair in our room, but that wasn't a big deal..I wished there was a hot tub in our building. I think my favorite part about this room was that it had a bathroom and a half. Two toilets, two sinks, and a regular bathtub. AWESOME! The hotel seemed to be centrally located. Everything that we needed was close. While at the beach we took the recommendation of the clerk and got pedicures at the best place in town. It was called Couture nails and it was in the bilo shopping center not far from the hotel. It was the BEST I have ever had. Back to the hotel. If there was something that this hotel could work on It would be the moldy smell that we experienced in our room and Housekeeping could be a little more respectful and knock on the door vs. just opening the door when someone is getting dressed! "Poor value, disappointing attitude"
As a provider in the hospitality industry it amazes me when staff fails to welcome guests. As we approach our room trash lines the entry way. We enter to find cracked tile, hair on the floor along with dirt. As we journey into the bathroom we find no towels, decaf coffee no regular and no cups. A trip to the lobby reveals other guests have similar issues. […] One guest had tried 2 exchanges with no success. On the second morning our shower produced no hot water. A call to the front desk brought a disgruntled technician who failed to wait as we dressed to answer the door. No hot water heater was in the room so apparently she was going to instruct us as to how to turn the faucet on??? On leaving no mention was given about the establishment's performance and when I asked for the manager's name and email the first employee did not know his name and he had not been available on what would be the busiest weekend all winter in Myrtle Beach (Marathon week). A return to the desk and I received an email address which when I wrote an email bounced back as undeliverable. Obviously they don't want emails direct to management. I strongly recommend people stay away from this establishment. Not only is it unkempt but they don't seem to care about their guests. When I arrived at the hotel the staff was not that friendly. When I got to the room it was not ready but it was given to me and I still can't understand that. Once I got in the room the bathroom was not fully cleaned. There was used soap in the shower and hair all over the floor and sink. I had to call and report it twice before anyone came to check it out and then I was told it was fixed but the water was still too cold to shower in. If I wasn't tied to the reservation I would've left. I called the front desk to complain about the service and I was told to call another number because she couldn't take my request. I called for towels and wash clothes after being there for almost 20 minutes because there was none in the room and I was told that housekeeping was gone and to come get it but the guy has literally just walked out of my half done room. We arrived not realizing there was a $50.00 pet fee. You must click the fine print at the bottom under the policies and details for it to expand to tell you the fee is $50.00. The receptionist did not want to help us after I explained we didn't know we had to pay this. Instead she said very rudely you have to call Expedia and deal with them. We finally […] gave in and paid the $50.00 so we did not have to turn around and drive home. Once we made it to our room, we discovered there was no toilet paper in the room. When we went down to get some, the lady at the desk only gave us one roll. And there were other people at the desk complaining about their rooms. The floors were dirty in the room. The bathroom floor had hair on it from the previous guests, and the toilet appeared to have not been wiped down properly. The shower drain was clogged, and the shower head was at a height fit for a ten year old kid. The entire hotel was run down. I should have taken a clue from the other reviewers. The only plus was that we could bring our pets, but for over $100 (winter rate!) we could have stayed at a newer hotel with a free breakfast buffet and nicer staff. I wouldn't book this hotel again. "You Get What You Pay For"
The hotel was below my expectations. My non-smoking room smelled like a sewer. The dresser looked like it was salvaged from an alley somewhere. The heater did not work, so I woke up shivering.
