My room was very nice, but the public areas of the hotel could use some TLC. The carpet in the hallways on the 17th floor were dirty and frayed and need to be cleaned/replaced. But the service was excellent from everyone including the front desk and the concierge desk.

We stayed here one night looking for a more "Japanese" hotel in Tokyo. It didn't disappoint. This hotel is used mostly by Japanese business people so it was an interesting experience. The hotel does seem a bit dated, but as another reviewer said, it has more of a period feel and it was clean. There are several restaurant choices which was nice. We had […] the buffet - which was decent but not great. The bakery on the main floor was delicious though. We also had some drinks on the 21st floor (Lounge 21) and the view was spectacular. Drinks were expensive though. The room service is also pretty pricy - even for Tokyo. The hotel is near alot of eateries (delicious and cheaper) and shops. Train station access was very convenient - it's downstairs (bit of a walk to the turnstyles though). Also, they do have wired internet but it is not complimentary. The beds were shorter than more Western hotels so this could be a problem for taller people. Read more

Very nice hotel, located in the Ginza district. The staff spoke some english and would write destinations in Japanese for you. The airport and tour buses (we took the Mount Fuji tour) picked up passangers at the hotel. That was nice because street signage is mostly in Japanese and few taxi drivers speak any english. The Lobby Wi-Fi connection was terrible.and […] the hotel had a steep charge to use there computers.. I suggest you bring a laptop and a coax cable to hard wire your omputer to the network connection in your room.. I haven't tried that, but my guess is that you would get a workable connection. Spent a weekend here as a tourist after a week of business elsewhere in Japan. Dai-Ichi is a top quality hotel with high standards for comfort and service. Probably would not have stayed here at the standard rate, but Hotels.com shaved more than 60% from standard, making this an excellent deal. But beware, the cost of meals and drinks at the hotel can […] be a killer, albeit for top quality. Better to choose from a variety of cost-effective local restaurants at meal-time. Location is very central, close to the Ginza strip plus walking distance to Tsukiji, Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower, and other landmarks. Also close to several Metro and JR stations, so it's easy to get around Tokyo from this spot. The only drawback is close proxiity to JR lines which run in front of the hotel, so train noise might be a problem for light sleepers. The level of guest service at this hotel is second to none. Staff went above and beyond to find information and respond to requests. I simply don't have the words to describe how nice this hotel is. Staff was awesome, very friendly. Also they did speak english too. Location is great within walking distance of Ginza shopping district and if you wanted to go anywhere else the subway is about a 5 minute walk away. All the plaudits above are right on. If you don't have loads of luggage (why should you), consider taking the JR Rapid Narita Airport from Narita Airport T2 straight to Shimbashi Station (1450 yen, 92 min, lots of local color). Exit 5 from JR to Ginza, go straight ahead across the street, walk past the Metro entrance on the other side of the street, […] take the next left under the tracks, and the Dai-Ichi is on the next corner to the right (tall tan tower with flower). This was simply the best hotel we've ever stayed in - hands down. Every part of the experience was exceptional. The Hotel was GORGEOUS, our suite was exceptional with beautiful appointments, large beds huge bathroom with a two-person tub with a view (yes, a VIEW). I have stayed at this hotel 2 yrs ago and have loved it; therefore I chose this hotel again. The staff were very polite and helpful and most important they were fluent in English. The hotel location was close to everything; JR, Metro (below the hotel), Ginza shopping area, and food. If you need a mid-night snack you can practically run across the street […] and get a bowl of noodles or McD's. The hotel rooms were quite spacious and very comfortable. They supply you will all the toiletries you need so you won't have to bring any. There's even a shaver & after shave lotion for the guys. The best part is that they have free internet connection so I advise you to bring that netbook or laptop with you; whether you are on vacation or for business. This is a very nice hotel, the rooms are large, the staff is very helpful. The location is near a smaller station off the JR Yamonote Circle line which is easy to navigate and take you to any Tokyo destination. The hotel was situated in a very convenient location. There's everything nearby (convenience shops, restaurants, fast food joints, McDonalds, etc). The shops around the hotel close around 8-9pm. There are lots of restaurants that are opened late in the area. The rooms are standard American hotel size. The one on the ends are a tad smaller but not uncomfortable. […] The bathrooms are clean and roomy. The amenities in the room are great. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel so we didn't even have to use ours. The only thing that is lacking is the complimentary use of a pool or gym. However, after a full day of sighseeing, you'll probably won't be needing those facilities anyway. All the staff are very courteous and helpful. They all speak and understand English as well, which makes it much easier to find attractions and shops. While the hotel is above a train station (Shimbashi Station exit 7), it's not accessible by elevators. We stayed away from hauling our luggage from there to the airport since there were no escalators or elevators to get us down to the trains. Other than that, I would stay at this hotel again without a doubt. However, the Dai-ichi Annex is right down the block. I heard the rooms are a bit smaller but I'd consider it if I'm on a stricter budget. Read more

I booked on hotels.com for a 7 night stay in May, 2010 for vacation. The rate was very fair I think. The twin room was spacious enough for comfort. The furnishings and cleanliness were excellent. Coffee and tea in room and a mini bar refrigerator. Medium sized flat screen TV. Noise was minimal and not a problem on the 8 th floor. The bathroom was large […] and excellent. The service in the hotel is friendly and exemplary. The concierge desk helped a lot e.g. getting Sumo tickets for us. I liked the location near a train station and centrally located. Sunrise Tours did hotel pickup and (mostly) dropoff for our tours, also very convenient. Gray Line does also. The hotel is fairly new and upscale in decor. The restaurants looked rather upscale also (Japanese, Chinese, European styles) but I did not use them. There are lots of restaurants in walking distance.
