Dai-Ichi hotel is located very close to Shimbashi Railway station in central Tokyo and so is easy to reach by rail. It is in a good area, close to the Imperial Palace, Ginza shopping district, with plenty of restaurants nearby. Hotel itself was excellently maintained, with very good bedrooms and a range of fine restaurants. Service was top class. An excellent choice for a 4 to 5 star hotel in central Tokyo.

Really nice hotel with excellence service from staff. The bar on the upper floor has really nice views and would stay again. Noticed the other reviews commented on the price of the hotel restaurant. The price is realistic for hotel Tokyo catering for salary men on business accounts. However, eating out is lot cheaper and there is plenty of choice to eat locally.

It's a great hotel of the classical type

After reading many reviews of Tokyo hotels, I decided to for the Dai Ichi, and am pleased to say that I wasn't dissapointed at all. The hotel was easy to find, just two stops down from Tokyo station on the Yamanoto line, with access directly to the Hotel via a subway. The hotel was very clean and modern. I stayed in a double room, with a massive double bed on the 17th Floor, with amazing views looking towards Tokyo tower. The rooms were not massive, but were large enough, our room had an HD flatscreen TV which was great, and the bathroom was excellent with a separate bath & shower. I would stay here again without question, and am pleased that I chose this hotel instead of the others I was considering due to its location and easy access to Tokyo's transport system.

Great Room, great staff members.

The Dai-Ichi Hotel staff is exceedingly well trained and efficient. As a foreigner with little undertsanding of local customs and no fluency in Japanese, when I arrived I was very worried. Th estaff at every level, was kind and courteous. The made sure the Taxi's that were called undertood where I neede dto go, they reviewed my travel plans and made excellent suggestions. The room staff and restaurants in the hotel were excellent. In addition the location is wonderful, next to a subway station and many restaurants and stores. It was a very pleasant business stop.

I would give this hotel a 4.5 out of 5 stars. My room was big and the bathroom was even bigger than my one at home. The bed was two true doubles pushed together, making one huge bed. Room was clean and service was formal and polite. My only negatives are that this hotel is next to the train tracks and Shimbashi station, so you do get some rumbling from the trains from 5 AM till midnight. It didn't really bother me, but for a very light sleeper it might be an issue. The hotel restaurants seemed pretty pricing, but being Tokyo there are tons of other options nearby.

The hotel and is a short walk away from the Ginza shopping district and dozens of places to eat. We had a great view of the city from our room. The only downside was the 90 minute limo-bus ride from Narita airport. Haneda airport is much closer.

The Dai-Ichi Hotel in Tokyo is awesome, great location in the Ginza area, walking distance to the ShimBashi train station. The staff was very helpful with arranging tours and helping us figuring out the trains.

This was our fourth trip to Tokyo, and it was our third stay at Dai-ichi. We're very happy with the location (right next to Shimbashi station). Though the hotel does not look brand new, it is very well kept. Rooms are clean and spacious. The most out of our expectations, especially in Japan, is that they actually provide a real bathroom instead of those tiny pre-fab bathroom which we really don't like. Two points that they may want to improve: (1) the blankets are too heavy, (2) they charge 2,200 yen for using the swimming pool, and they don't allow children in!

This hotel is in an ideal location for foreign visitors. You can access the subway (Shimbashi) through the basement walkway and you have access to virtually every corner of Tokyo and beyond. The upscale Ginza district is a two minute walk away. There you will find stores, boutiques, banks--everything you need to ensure a comfortable stay. This hotel is well known which makes catching cabs to and from a cinch. Tour bus companies provide front door pick-up and drop-off services--very convenient. If you don't feel like venturing out, the hotel has a number of restaurants on site that provide room service (expensive). For a quick, predictable bite you can hit up the McDonalds a block away. Also, there is are convenience stores on adjacent blocks if you want to stockpile junk food to avoid eating out. This hotels has great service and I will stay there again when I return.

Three adults stayed in one room. Hotel brought in an additional bed for third person for an extra fee. We had plenty of room and all of the amenities! Slippers, robes, Shiseido toiletries, warm carafe of water for tea and more! Beds were very comfortable. Hotel staff very accommodating and gracious. Morning paper, in English, delivered to our door. We saw that some rooms had Japanese newspapers at their doors. We felt that the eateries within the hotel were a bit pricey, so we opted to eat at establishments very nearby. Overall experience was fabulous. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

The Dai Ichi serves my business requirements because of it's proximity to Shimbashi Station. It's location for tourist (Ginsa, Palace) should also serve them well.

The Dai-Ichi Hotel in Tokyo is an outstanding hotel with exemplary service at a great price. My next hotel was not so nice and will go unnamed here. If you like to shop, you are near the bustling Ginza shopping neighborhood and within walking distance (about 30 minutes) to the Imperial Palace. There are tons of restaurants within several blocks and there is quite an afterwork bustle to the small restaurants in the 'hood. Not much for breakfast nearby, but then I don't live for breakfast and you can always eat in the hotel cafe if you want (but it's a bit pricier than the independent eateries in the neighborhood). The Shimbashi station is across the street and is only two stops from Tokyo station where you can catch the Narita Express to the airport. A great place to stay and would definitely stay here again. Four stars without a doubt.

The Dai-Ichi lacks one thing that would make this the ideal business hotel and that is a gym. They have a contract with a gym across the street that is very local and dated - and costs an addition 1600 yen per visit. Nonetheless, the Dai-Ichi is very comfortable and located close to many restaurants and conveniences that make it a great location for business anywhere in central Tokyo. You are a short walk away from both the JR and the Ginza subway which is all you really need for reasonably priced travel throughout the city. The rooms are standard Tokyo fare, clean and quiet, and the service is excellent (English is OK). The TV channels are quite limited but Internet is always on.

The room was fine (large enough size and lots of amenities) and the service was great (especially the patience of the concierge), but we were unhappy with the location. It was advertised as being in the Ginza district, but the appearance of the surroundings was seedy.

Right in the middle of Ginza district. Outstanding service - will put to shame any Western hotel service. Beautiful large rooms (for Japanese standards) with more than expected amenities. Prices for restaurants in the hotel are a tad pricey. But VERY classy hotel!

I know Tokyo but in 20 years of traveling there I never stayed at Dai Ichi Shimbashi. Most convenient location for business and very very decent hotel for the price. Bye bye Shinagawa.

If you are looking for luxury at a reasonable price this is the best hotel - the location is in the heart of Tokyo which might be a bit too touristy but, very nice. the rooms exceeded our expectations - they were large (by any standards), beautifully decorated, clean - just fabulous. The service at the hotel is outstanding as well - people are extremely polite and helpful (especially useful in a country where they don't speak english). I would highly, highly recommend this hotel.

The Dai-Ichi is a great transition to Japan if you are a first time visitor and have just stumbled off the 12-14 hour flight from the states. The hotel is western-styled so you have a chance to ease your transition into the Japanese culture. The staff were very excellent and quite helpful. I had lost my cell phone on the airport bus and they helped me to track it down and get it back. They even delivered it to my room for me! That's service

Staff was very helpful, everyone was very tentative to our requests and helped us with directions. This hotel was perfect for my wife and I, who enjoy traveling and experiencing the culture. This hotel is walking distance to the Ginza where there is great shopping and to the Shimbashi station where you can catch a train or subway to anywhere in the city. I would highly recommend this hotel to my friends.

I stayed with my two teenage kids in a double room with an extra bed. Very comfortable and the staff were only to happy to help us. Even if this is clearly a very high class hotel, the staff were very homely. Nice bar on the 21st floor with a view over Tokyo Internet in the Reception area is really slow (old PC's) but in the rooms it is fine.

Having just finished a four night stay at the Mandarin in Nihombashii we moved to the Shimbashi Dai Ichi to join friends for the final two nights. I will start by stating I grew up in Japan, speak Japanese and visit the country every month from my home in HK. I was well acquainted with the Dai Ichi having stayed here over a decade ago when the Imperial Hotel was full. I regret to inform you this hotel has declined immensely, one reason why it is no longer a member of the LHW. The staff are indifferent, the lounge is like some cheap hooker pick up bar and the rooms are out dated, not that clean and in the two days I stayed room service failed to clean the room and I had to call several times to get service. Most annoyingly, staff try to hide behind the 'I don't speak english' excuse only to be embarrassed when I switch to Japanese (I am caucasian). The location of the hotel is its only redeeming feature but I would urge anyone to choose the Imperial over the Dai Ichi. This hotel is not well run, there is no attention to detail and the cleanliness of the rooms is questionable. We stayed on the 20th floor, supposedely a Premier Floor but with service that is totally below par. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

More than I expected, this hotel was wel located in Ginza. Service was excellent, very clean and employees were well educated, polite and helful. I will come back to this hotel anytime and recommend it to anyone. 150% rating + 10 stars

Within walking distance to the JR Station. Staff very helpful with resturant recommendations and directions to sight-seeing, etc. Room is nice and large--we had 3 adults. Bathroom is very large. Beautiful view of Tokyo Tower.

The hotel is beautiful, in a great location, and has many wonderful amenities. It is quite large for a hotel in Japan and VERY close to the subway making it very convenient. Their was noise from the subway but not enough to disrupt sleep even for the ligbt sleeper. The room was OUTSTANDING and was very clean. A five star hotel in the States. However upon arrival they tried to add on another $40 per night for our daughter which has already been accounted for and paid for in the reservation. After much hassle they finally let us have the room without the extra fee. However for the room we paid for a couple of days prior with our AAA reservation they would not remove the additional fee. The service personnel was cordial and respectful however did not quite feel a warm welcome as in a five star hotel in the States. Overall an OUTSTANDING hotel just wish the service was a little friendlier.

Everything was alright. Two things...There are way too few foreigners in hotel lobby (Most are Japanese) especially Japanese gather for lunch at lobby level. Lobby is literally shut down after midnight. No piano, no singing, no nothing. Only one lamp on. Not a single person after midnight. So it seems like definetely a good place for people who just want clean, nice, convenient place to sleep. If you are looking for western style bar crowded place, this is not the right hotel.

This hotel was abosultely fabulous. It is in an excellent location right next the subways. There is even a tunnel connection to the subway in the basement of the hotel. The area is safe and clean and we came in at all hours of the night with no worries. The staff is very friendly and helpful with all of your tourist needs. The rooms are clean and the beds were VERY comfortable. There is also a very convenient store across the street to get the basics (chips, sodas, beer, snacks, etc). We had a great time.

This hotel is at an ideal location literally across the street from Ginza area. It is also close to the JR train line (2 blocks) as well as the Metro line. This is a classy hotel and the room we had was impeccable. The bathroom had a separate tub and shower and was very large. It even has piped in TV audio so you could listen to CNN while doing your business. The staff at this hotel did everything they could to help us out. They even called me the evening before i left to let me know that they owed me 425 yen from my currency conversion a few days earlier as the rate they used was wrong! Overall, this hotel was a great value for the price paid.

This is my second visit to the Dai-Ichi Hotel Tokyo, and I will return there on my next visit to Tokyo. The concierge staff is the best for obtaining assistance with language, maps, directions, and information about cultural attractions and market areas. 24 Internet access in the lobby on a work station provided by the hotel is both reasonably priced and high-speed. The hotel is conveniently located to many subway and train stations, another great feature.

THE HOTEL BREAKFASTS AND HOTEL RESTURANTS WERE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE.

What a great hotel! The rooms are large, elegant and comfortable. The hotel staff is very attentive. The hotel has a convenient location for major subway lines, and the trains -- only a two minute walk away. It is also walking distance to the Ginza shopping area as well as the famous fish market. Within minutes from the hotel there were continuous rows of restaurants as well as several convenience stores open 24 hrs. The 32" HDTV was top quality -- watching sumo, cooking shows and onsen visits were great fun. Thanks to an earlier guest's tip about room numbers close to the train tracks -- we got a nice quiet room. One side faces the Tokyo tower -- very nicely lit up at night. Lacking -- affordable breakfast package with the room. Highly recommend this hotel.

Wished i would have stayed here for my entire Tokyo stay. Located less than 5 min from Yurakucho JR Station (1 stop from Tokyo main station) and huge shopping in Ginza. Try the Soup Stock for amazing soups or Tully's for better than Starbucks coffee..both located within minutes from hotel.

If you're looking for a relaxing place to end your days after sightseeing around Tokyo, you could do much worse. Didn't try any of the amenities, but the room was very comfortable, the bathroom exquisite and the location fantastic. If you don't need a spa or gym (although these are on offer for extra cost), I would recommend this hotel.

Good value in a good location for Tokyo.

Excellent hotel. The rooms are probably the best I have stayed at in Japan. Each has a 32" LCD TV which was easy to connect video iPod to. The hotel has easy access to the Ginza and has a number of great restaurants near by. Only negative about the hotel is they charge to use the fitness center. Saw in a previous review about noise from the train tracks. I stayed 2 different times - 1st time no noise, 2nd time heard noise (but not bad and I was at the end next to the track). If you can get a room that is lower than x18 e.g. lower than 1118 on a floor, you should be fine.
