The stay was very pleasant. The rooms are older and could stand some repairs but clean. The a/c worked like a champ. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and all the appliances worked fine. We had a gas BBQ grill outside that was pretty new and very clean. The best part of the room was the wall of windows looking out on the small private pool […] and deck. Very nice! The worst part of the room was an old mattress with very little padding. You could feel every spring. Luckily, by the time we hit the bed we were tired from that day's adventures so it was livable. The staff was welcoming and friendly the moment we entered the place. When we went to the restaurant (which they shut down the day we left), the owner greeted us with free food and told us the best places to go including how to get to the beach which was a little confusing the first day. The hotel room was great other than a somewhat uncomfortable couch. […] There was a living room and a bedroom both with TVs which allowed myself and my fiance alone time when we wanted it. The whole resort was quiet and we had a pool all to ourselves... no screaming kids or parties which is what was important to me. The pool area was clean, but could do with a remodel. However, for what I paid, I think I got an awesome deal! Definitely would recommend to others if you want peace and quiet. It's not something I would recommend to people who want to party. Read more

The hotel is straight out of the 70's but in a funky upbeat sort of way. The rooms are clean and comfy, althought there are no amenities to speak of other than an outdoor bar and pool on suite. Since each unit is individually owned, all units are in different condition. Our first unit was really old and smelled bad. We asked for a different room and the next room was nice and cozy. We really enjoyed sitting out by the pool. Our room was also next to the road and it was a little noisy at night.

WiFI was only available in lobby area with password that was not given at check in. Lobby was locked and gated until 8:00AM. After spending a week on St. John, we eased out way back into reality by spending a couple of nights at Pavillions and Pools. It was great (but not back to reality at all!)The staff was really helpful, the private pool was fun, our suite (104) was large and clean. The restaurant served good and inexpensive Mexican food and the daily happy hour under […] the dining pavillion was perfect. We thought the walk to Sapphire Beach was easy. The beach itself was big enough and had enough shade to really enjoy it. The beach is public, but several condominium complexes abut it and have beach chairs set up which are not public. Walking into Redhook was possible, but it was a winding road with lots of traffic, so not comfortable at night, but there are plenty of taxis. This hotel was a pleasant surprise, a great place to just kick back and relax.. It's a great place to stay and convenient to the ferry for St. John as well.The web site says "clothing optional" and your pool is totally private, but everyone is fully clothed in public areas. Pavilions and Pools is not a typical resort. If you want an experience similar to a Marriott resort, you may not like P&P. The rooms are not elegant, the physical structure probably is from the 80s and the cleaning service is not stellar. You will be somewhat aware of other guests, but mostly that's at breakfast or if someone has a pool near you. You are in your own private space in the tropics.And let's be honest: skinny dipping is cool. The rooms provide a space more like a condominium than a hotel room. Each room has a wall of windows overlooking your pool. There is a separate living room and bedroom with a galley kitchen. So you can hang out in your room and go nowhere for a couple of days if that suits you. There is a small grocery store in Red Hook and a bigger one toward town. The walk to the beach is further than we care to walk and we like to get around the island, so we rent a car. That lets us go over to Magen's Bay, to Charlotte Amalie for dinner or wherever.
