Stayed one night, booked because it had a pool. In the end did not get a chance to use to the pool as it we arrived late. Hard to find in the dark, due to roadworks at M4 junction changing the place of roads, and lack of signposts. The location is lovely, surrounded by a golf course. The hotel is very big, geared towards conferences and events, but was very nice itself. There were lots of self service coffee and tea machines around. We went for a weekend treat before a wedding and planned to use the facilities and steam room. Unfortunately the steam room was in the manor house […] with the spa, but the pool and gym were in the hotel, so a few mins walk away. So we had to make a separate trip to the steam room, (the spa was already fully booked beforehand) only to find that it wasn't working and even if it was, we couldn't use it in the morning, only after 4pm. The hotel reception staff didn't know or warn us of this. Had to queue to get into breakfast which was quite good, but they had run out of croissants and some of the juices, 45min before it finished. I would stay here again, but for this occasion, was annoyed that we were unable to use the steam room, as it was the reason for choosing this hotel. Surly receptionist on arrival who said very little to us before giving us the card key which had been altered 3 times despite our ringing ahead to say we would be late arrivals. Actually arrived at 10.30pm but had pre-paid the room so we were not expecting any issues.Also the final (double room) was prepared for only one person requiring a trudge back […] to reception for additional towels etc. The room was nicely appointed, very clean and the bed extremely comfortable. Hotel is set in beautiful countryside but I suggest other travellers ring the hotel for directions rather than trust Sat Nav which took us a very, very long way around from Reading leading us the believe the hotel to be in the middle of nowhere instead of 30 minutes from Reading town centre Read more

The general condition and preparation of the hotel was abysmal during our stay. The old mansion house was near empty and there were paint pots, half drunk water bottles and other scaffolding left lying around. Nice enough place but out in the middle of nowhere and more like a holiday park than a hotel. It was really wet when I got there and my room was a 10 minute walk through a dark and wet park to get to the restaurant. Wouldn't recommended it.

Upon arrival check in was fine, no hassle. From what I could tell the rooms were mainly along quite long corridors. Rooms were very dated and in quite a poor state of repair. The venue was difficult to find, due to a combination of poor weather and inadequate signage at the venue. There are several large buildings to choose from, and we took ages to find the correct one. Very disappointing. After eventually finding the building I was to stay in it was like a train station with long check-in queues. After waiting for about 20 minutes there was no apology from the receptionist for the wait. I stay away most weeks in various hotels but this was the first time I wasn't asked if I wanted to book a table for dinner nor was […] I told anything about the facilities available. Endless to say I won't be staying here again. The service/staff in the bake, steam or grill restaurant were efficient and polite. It was, however, a surprise, given the name of the restaurant to find it was a themed night serving Indian food with a choice of only 1 curry! Hotel was very nice and staff all friendly. I stayed in the Mansion House and there was a wedding that afternoon so unfortunately lots of rowdy guests in corridor in the middle of the night which was not great considering I was getting up early for work the next morning. we moved from reading lakes as not satisfied. We were really pleased when we got to the devere the reason for our ratings is 1 the tv was not working and we had to ask twice for it to be fixed. We were also put along a corridor where nearly every room was occupied by young people attending a party held at the hotel. I didnt get to sleep until 2 30am […] and then was awoken again at 4am when the night security decided to intavene we got our breakfast free only on my suggested and was told we would be contacted by the manager at sometime. I like to see young people enjoying themselves but like the lady at reception said we could have had a room in a quieter part of the hotel sometimes things are not properly thought out which would have made our stay alot more enjoyable . Service very poor upon arrival, No assistance with luggage even thought they knew the lift was broken, (I had 2 large cases & a bag/It was late /they knew the room was at the very far end of the hotel /Poor signage /only very basics provided in a premium room and comments cards with personal information and contact details of an occupant and his complaints […] left in room on desk from 31st Dec 2013. Went to locate a manager and spoke with James, who offered me a free glass of wine and some pasta from the buffet (Which was very bland and luke warm) as I had lost my purse (Much appreciated and I did offer to pay the following day when I'd been to the bank. Light fitting hanging from it socket (H&S issue). Room exceptionally noisy, very little sleep as it was next to the main entrance to the corridor and doors were banging until about 2am and started again about 4.30am, work men and equipment started making noise outside bedroom window about 7am. White fluid from the iron seaped all over my dress. Was encouraged by the local golfers on site to raise my issues so they could be rectified as they are aware the hotel reputation has been poor of late. Tried to find a Manager via reception, long story but no joy. Eventually spoke with Louise in sales as she was passing who was very polite. Good points - free coffee in reception, Good customer service upon request by the Lady in the restaurant in the evening and another member of the team in the restaurant. Read more

Overall we had a nice time, nice quiet location and the food is very nice. However we booked a trip room for 3 adults as advertised however we got here and the room was tiny! We then asked to move and we were moved to the lodge. The internet needs to be clearer. Rooms lighting is not great.

For the cost I would say this was a very good find, if you don't want to do anything in the evening. Bar food was poor, drinks expensive. Location rural (it is a golf course afterall). Didn't suit me this time but would be great for others passing through on business I guess.

Expedia booked my room wrong day! well first off they said i had no booking at all, then tried to tell me that it was my mistake and there were no rooms. thankfully the very helpful reception staff got things sorted and after 3/4 hr of phonecalls to credit card co and expedia we got a room. nice room, one downside we discovered is only one chair provided […] for two people. so i had to sit on upturned bin to eat my roomservice ... supermarket "value" like pizza. boyfreinds burger and fries was much more appetising.(main restaurant menu not appealing) sauna jacussi and swimmingpool were lovely, though other peoples disregard for provided towels was saddening. perhaps a wicker basket might encourage people not to leave them in piles on the floor in the changing rooms? bed and pillows were divine, and even though there were numerous xmas party's on we had a really peaceful night sleep, just what was needed before a days training. Room comfortable, looking a bit tired in places and some maintenance and refurbishment wouldn't go a miss. These rooms are used heavily (rooms overlooking driving range). Overall, the hotel is at a good level, but the location of room 616 is embarrassing (it should be for the service of the hotel room!). I think curfew applies to all hotel guests, but someone as disturbed about 2pm for me this is not acceptable.

A very comfortable overnight stay. Even though there was a Christmas party at the hotel, this did not deter from a quiet night in our hotel room. Very reasonably priced, lovely pool and nice coffee in the reception area.

Arrived at 9.45 just as the restaurant was closing,decided to check in and order from 24 hr room service. Was informed that the 24 hr services was only 22 hr and the chief did not start till 12 pm. The stay was quite eventful as all our electrical power went down at 23:35!We contacted reception and a man arrivrd after 5mins, looked non-plussed and said he would come back. He did after 45mins to be told that we would have to change rooms! Complained to management the following morning to be told they would look into it. Received a phone call to […] be told that their training had not allowed for such a contingency but that this was now in hand.
