The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was great. The complimentary breakfast had a great assortment of cheeses, meats, fruit, cereal, and croissants and bread. . It is across the street from the lake so the view is pretty from the rooms.

This hotel is fantastic. The views are amazing! The hotel itself is beautiful, comfortable and the staff is pretty fantastic. It is however, up a very steep hill and walking to town is not really an option. Taxi's are very expensive to and from the hotel, but the surrounding towns are worth it. Find another place to eat in town. The restaurant in the hotel was a terrible experience. Crunchy risotto and pasta, raw veal and chicken and the bartender did not understand that rum is not tequila. The bar itself leaves much to be desired. We were charged full price for the horrible dinner, and the negotiation about reducing the charges for a REALLY BAD dining experience, was very difficult. The manager was really not willing to reduce the bill as much as I would have liked to see for the horrible food. Avoid this issue by eating elsewhere and the rest of your experience will be lovely.

There is little that cannot be said of this hotel. The location and grounds are gorgeous; the main villa is beyond beautiful; the service was outstanding from check-in to check-out. My fiancee and I traveled to to this hotel during the off-period right before New Year's. We were put into a suite in the main building. The room was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The mini-bar was complimentary and replenished daily. The service throughout the complex was excellent. Perhaps the nicest surprise of our stay was the spa. Built underneath the main building, the spa featured a large pool with a number of fun features. The four treatment rooms, modeled after Earth, Air, Wind, and Fire, were a great place to have a couple's massage. This hotel is a wonderful getaway for a romantic trip to a truly gorgeous location.

"Noisy ripoff ..."
My room was above a train station and it was close to impossible to sleep at all. In addition, they demanded another "city tax" of CHF 3.25 even though hotels.com indicated that the booking was fully paid. The discussion about this was neither helpful nor nice. "Convenience"
It is very convenient if you travel by train. From the train station you take the funicolare and the hotel is right at the bottom. If you have luggage it is very easy. "Not a recommended hotel"
The hotel is ok, not great. We booked via Hotels.com and got a dark room, with not a well maintained bathroom, not to mention the bathroom door couldn't be locked and was shared with another room. We didn't get the type of rooms that we booked and there didn't seem to be any concern by the staff about that. One of the three didn't have functioning air conditioning, and again that didn't seem to be a problem for the staff. "Good choice"
Hotel is centrally located. Everything is walking distance. This hotel is good when you're out-all-day and only need a place to sleep. No lakeview, balkony etc. But a good deal. If you sleep soundly...or go to sleep late and wake up early...this place is great. The funicular runs literally thru the hotel...and during operating hours...you can hear it ...thump thump thump...but..the location is convienent..and price is low in comparison to most Lugano hotels. Easily accessible to the train and the town. The Acquarello was a nice reasonably priced establishment in an overpriced town. Not only was the hotel affordable, but it also had European flavor: The radiators and casement windows were real plus factors in my book. On our way from Milan, Italy, to Zurich, we stopped off in Lugano for the night. The Acquarello Swiss Q is very centrally located in downtown Lugano, in a nice area with shops and restaurants. The location is very convenient and walkable to all shopping areas. Room is clean and has Coolers in them. Front desk lady is a little rude, but that may be a cultural thing. The room was in line with expectations. Fortunately we were on the 5th floor so the noise of the cable car-train was not too loud, more like a dull groaning. The hotel is located in the very centre of Lugano right next to the funicular rail which takes you up the train station. This may be convenient for travelers arriving or departing from the train station, however if your room is positioned on the side of the tracks, be prepared for the noise. For the price, especially in Switzerland (I can bet it is […] the most expensive country in the world!) and the location, the hotel is more than adequate. For people on a budget it is a fair choice, particularly because it is very clean and functional. There is sufficient furniture and the bathrooms are spotless. My problem was with the service. They tried to charge me for an extra guest, when my reservation explicitly said that I had booked a twin room for 2 people. I wasted half an hour of my time on arguing my case, but they would not give in. I had to log onto my account in Expedia from their world's slowest computer in the lobby and show them my reservation. They then proceeded to check every bit of small text to find out how they could charge me more. Not having found anything, they finally let me go and removed my extra guest charge from the total bill. I was late for a meeting as the direct result of the delay. No apology was given.
