"Not many choices in Hilo"
If your room is on the street side, expect to hear noise as cars unload and load at lobby.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Value in Paradise"
Good value relative to other Hawaiian alternatives. Short visit and did not utilize the on-site restaurant or pool. Grounds are nice and the Banyan tree lined boulevard adds greatly to ambiance. Older area but nostalgic, nice views and very convenient to sightseeing. Rooms reasonably updated and relatively spacious.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I was in Hilo on a business trip. This hotel overall is very nice. It was clean and the staff very friendly. The area around the hotel is beautiful. My only complaint, the hotel needs to invest in better internet connection. It is currently Stone age.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beautiful View of Hilo Bay!"
I was traveling alone with my three-year old son visiting family and seeing the sites. We had a great ocean view room on Hilo Bay with the mountain in the distance. I was very grateful to the very helpful staff who helped move me to a room with a lanai over the landing because I was SO paranoid my lightning fast toddler could easily have a tragic accident. […] I would definitely stay here, if I happened to be in Hilo again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Give it a try"
This hotel is on a quiet banyan tree-lined street on the bay and by a nice park. The hotel itself is dated and in need of renovations. On the positive note, the rooms have recently been renovated and make-up for the drab lobby and public spaces. Renovations are decent, only certain details overlooked that would make them great. The bed is fairly comfortable, […] but the TV was extremely dated and the controller non entirely functional. We had to use our smartphone to operate the TV in a 21st century manner. Parking while we were stayed for 2 nights was rather annoying (not enough spaces) but it's included in the hotel fee and not an add-on like most hotels do now, so you can't really complain. Overall, a decent place in a decent location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean but a littled dated"
I arrived on a Sunday night for a three night stay for business. The hotel is about a five minute drive from Hilo airport and can get a little noisy depending on which way the flights are arriving/departing. The room was clean but somewhat dated and could have used a power strip. I did not use the outdoor pool but it looked very nice and clean. The […] view of Hilo Bay from the ocean facing rooms is beautiful. The lock on the sliding glass door leading out to the lanai was a little flimsy and could use improvement. It would also be good to have an in-room safe. The fridge I had worked perfectly but just be sure to check that it is on when you arrive (mine was not). There is a $11 charge for 24 hours of internet access and that charge is per device, not per room. You can only sign in from one device at a time. They also have weekly rates for in-room Wi-Fi. The business center of the hotel charges by the minute. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was nice enough, although it appeared to cater to a predominantly Asian clientele. The room was clean and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stay was okay"
Family stayed 7 nights. Hotel was okay. Everything is fairly close. Pool was not inviting. Chairs uncomfortable no towels available.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a good hotel for business professionals..."
This hotel has an outdated décor but is clean and seemingly well maintained. However, as business travel writers we were shocked at the poor wifi set up. There was a fee for wifi in the which has the worst signal we've ever experienced in a hotel. The free common areas signal was slow especially when several other travelers were online. This is unacceptable […] in today's world for both tourists and business travelers. When we reported the poor signal in the room, the reservations desk staff member contacted the provider and the signal improved several hours later. The food in the restaurant was overcooked, although the service was good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient hotel in Hilo"
Very friendly and helpful staff. Within walking distance of many restaurants.. Room was spotless and bed comfortable. We got a free room upgrade...just for asking. Not a resort, but a good spot to hang hat when sightseeing on east coast of Big Island.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Castle Hilo Hawaiian"
Nice hotel, pool is cold in December (they don't heat it) so my daughter couldn't swim in it, beautiful Banyan trees out in front. Rooms were nice, staff was nice, decent service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent hotel, breathtaking ocean view"
This hotel is beyond my expectation. It stands on the beach facing a scenic road and back to a huge park along the bay. There are many parks, pools and beaches nearby, The room is spacious, clean and well decorated with breathtaking ocean view from the balcony. In the meantime, this hotel is in a short driving distance to the town center and farmer's […] market. All of my family, including grand parents and kids, enjoy the stay in Hilo. "Exellent location; good value"
Excellent location and good value. We had rooms overlooking the bay/coconut island and the views were stunning. The property is slightly run down and could use refreshing. The space in the rooms was great and the balcony a bonus to enjoy fresh air. On site restaurant was not very appealing with limited menu and we ended up eating out of the hotel. Overall, […] the excellent location makes up for some of the shortfalls and we enjoyed the ability to get to most of the sights like the Volcano Park, Wai'pio Valley, the current lava flow sights, waterfalls etc. with short drives. "Give it a try. :)"
I was a little worried about this hotel because of the negative reviews. However, it has been pretty much redone and it was a very nice hotel. We are used to Hiltons and I would say that this one is at least as nice as the Embassy Suites.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Spacious room, right on the beach"
This hotel has spacious rooms. New furniture and room decoration after the renovation (popcorn ceiling is still there - it may be hard to remove). Close to restaurants. Easy access to many fast food places. Beautiful banyan trees in the front. Nearby Coconut island and Japanese garden are all nice places to stop by. We booked a mountain view room and […] were given a corner room with partial ocean view. Highly recommend if you plan to stay in Hilo. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A nice hotel that is past it's glory days"
At one time I suspect that this was THE place to stay. It is still a very nice hotel but it has a rather tired feeling and a pitiful swimming pool. The location is great with Coconut Island right in back next to a very nice park. We stayed for two nights because of location for day trips but I cannot imagine staying for longer. I didn't pay attention […] but it seemed like a boring place if you have kids (we don't). The Kona/Kohala coast is much more oriented to tourists and is consequently more crowded. We started in Kona and drove around the entire island over 6 nights. I was not ready for how beautiful the Big Island would be. Highlights included the entire South coast including Volcanoes Park and the 4 mile hike in the Kilauea Crater which was incredible (challenging but doable--hike counterclockwise). Don't miss the Puna area where orchids grow like weeds or the most Southern point in the US (it's not Key West). The East coast is another coast to see and make sure to getup to Hawi which is a great old plantation town. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel with beautiful bay and ocean views"
spacious and clean hotel rooms. Close to everything in town. We had the bay/ocean view room, the views were breathtaking! Staffs were very nice (Antoinette was exceptional!). You totally would feel the true "Aloha" spirit here. We had a really pleasant stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hilo Hawaiian Hotel stay"

"Comfort and convenience"
We were pleasantly surprised at how convenient, comfortable and cozy our stay was. The room was very nice. The staff were all very helpful and attentive. It has a very homelike feeling. "Decent choice for Hilo"
Room was clean and comfortable. Nice view of Mauna Kea across the water from ocean view room. Elevators are noisy. I was staying across the hall and down a bit from the elevators and could still hear the mechanics. I mitigated sufficiently for me by setting fan on HVAC to run all night to drown it out. I'd say three star furnishings and amenities in […] the room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"What a disappointment!"
This hotel is old and very run down. There are very few amenities, only one eating option, and getting a good cup of coffee is even a challenge. The hotel also has smoking rooms which creates a smoky smell even in the rooms where smoking is not permitted. The buffet is way over-priced given the food is cold! Very limited options for even a cup of good […] coffee! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"It is what it is... and it's good."
The place could definitely use a makeover, but it is still a reasonable hotel. Rooms and carpet are dated. But the ocean view looks out on Coconut Island. Get a room on the 5th floor or higher.Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel looked and felt like a high ranking resort. If I had to find a negative it would be the beach is rocky and the parking garage is small. Other than that it is probably the best hotel on the Hilo side of the big island.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nothing is memorable about the Hilo Hawaian, other then the noise from the Koke frogs and that of the loud, old A/C. No hairdryers in the room, the staff will politely tell you to bring your own, and the breakfast buffet, for $20, is mediocre at best. No real competition, and they know it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Near Hilo Bay"
I booked a ocean view room because the view is worth the price. Ocean view rooms are recently renovated. Comfortable. Drawbacks, no safe, blow dryer or iron if you need it. The Bay Drive park is really spectacular. Can see turtles in season and all in walking distance to hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Best choice in Hilo"
Not too many options in Hilo so based on reviews and the fact that it's emphasized that the hotel is "Newly Renovated" we thought we'd give it a try seeing we needed to be in Hilo for 2 nights. The hotel is just ok. Easy to find, free parking, but wifi is only free in main lobby. Our room was renovated but not particularly clean to my standard. Probably […] won't be returning to Hilo any time soon so I don't plan on returning. I guess I'd give it a 3*. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overpriced for the cost."
The room was roomy and bed comfortable. The bar was nice and had a band playing. This was the most expensive hotel of our stay on the big island and wasn't worthy the extra $Genuine Expedia guest review
We had made arrangements at another location but were very unsatisfied so went back to where we had stayed before at Hilo Hawaiian and had a very good stay. We were given free upgrades, which we loved. They also moved us (to even better quarters) when there was going to be a high school football team on the floor we were staying on. "We would stay there again!"
We only stayed for one night; however, upon check in we asked for a room with a view, which we got for no extra charge. Everyone was very courteous.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Backwards thinking staff... Disconnected."
No Hair Dryers in the rooms. When we down to the Front Desk, we were tod that you need to REQUEST a hair dryer at check-in. Since we only stayed that night (6th floor) we had to pack and leave to meet a client that morning. Idiotic policy would have you go check out a dryer and then return it (up down up down elevator) just to dry hair. Ridiculous.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not really a hotel"
It is like a shack in the beach, not a hotel. No AC, no TV, wild roosters waking you up too early. Terrible beds. Interior is like a summer camp dorm for kids. The location is great, right on the beach.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great bay view!!"

"You're better staying at a Comfort Inn"
From the start this wasn't a good experience. The woman at the front desk during checkin couldn't be less helpful. We get to the room and find that the sliding doors don't close & lock correctly, the fridge doesn't work, and the bed couldn't be less comfortable. In Hilo, there is no 5-star grade hotel. So, this was my choice, because my flight back to LA was around 7:00 AM. This hotel seems the best in town, but not he one which exceeds your expectation with the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
