Ocean Beach Hotel - San Diego

The staff at the hotel were on average good. That means that one of three desk personnel was NOT good, taking down the average. The maintenance and cleaning personnel were great! no complaints there. We were accommodated with a room change (one was canceled) and a room move. I would unreservedly go back to OBHotel except for the one front desk person […] who retroactively charged for one of the changes. He may have lost future traffic by demanding an extra fee. Hotel is great. Location is perfect. As far as Hotel infrastructure: A recent update to fixtures, paint, furnishings, still needs maintenance (paint touchups). The hotel is in perfect location. Shopping, bars, beach even pet friendly. The rooms are not huge but serve the purpose and are clean. The courtyard area is just as great as the picture.

The hotel is in a great location right by the Ocean Beach. Rooms can get noisy, possibly due to thin walls, and I did not exactly fancy that some folks had their dogs off the leash within the hotel premises and they roamed loose sniffing people about. Otherwise nice and friendly staff, convenient location and several good eateries around.

I liked being right on the beach. The courtyard was cute but the room had bad lighting and not enough power outlets. The room was the smallest room I have ever been in. No plug in in the bathroom to dry my hair and where there was a plug in no light.

The hotel was a little run down and the walls are very thin and you hear everything, but the hotel was 5 steps from the ocean and 10 steps from amazing restaurant options. Also it was only 10 minutes from the zoo so that was very nice and convenient.

Nice job on the renovations. The fresh paint and new linens were a nice touch. The OB area is still scummy, but that is part of the appeal. We look at a stay in the OB hotel as a three day drunk. There are multiple bars and restaurants with in walking distance, and the San Diego bus and trolley system is awesome. All told, a good time!

I loved the neighborhood, lots a of great shops and restaurants all very close. The hotel has updated interiors and very clean, but the walls are paper thin. The Customer Service is great but that is it. For the price I payed I expected something halfway decent compared to the other hotels for the same or even cheaper. We arrived right after the Cleaning lady left, there was this lingering smell of cleaning chemicals that never went away, most of the furniture was beat up, the paint in the bathroom walls […] and ceiling is coming off (that's expected since the bathroom has no window or mechanical ventilation). Who paints the tile bathroom? HORRIBLE! I have never seen a smaller hotel room in my life. THE ONLY REASON why I booked this hotel was because of the location, its right in front of the beach and next to a strip of bars, pubs, grilles, stores. The center of the hotel is the only thing I liked about it. If you are going to book this Hotel, make sure you at least get the rooms with a balcony (assuming they are in better condition) otherwise its a WASTE!. Read more

Over all the stay was great... We were across the street from the beach. There was a really cute market that happens every Wednesday. The room was clean but small which was prefect for us. We felt very safe at the hotel and the courtyard was beautiful.

My surfing teenage son and I stayed 6 nights and it was a great spot for us. He could walk out the door and onto the beach whenever he wanted & I could watch from the hotel balcony or take a short walk to the pier. Funky place, but clean and has a microwave & frig. The hotel was great. My friend and I just needed a night away and the OB hotel was great. It was close to everything and we even got to go for a run on the beach in the morning. The room was small but perfect for what we were looking for. I will definately be staying here again!

The view of the ocean overrides any slight imperfections at this hotel. They've remodeled some of the rooms (I stayed in two during this stay#. New doors and sliding glass doors, nice tile in the bathroom. New hardwood-looking floors that are beautiful The beds are super comfy. I really liked staying at the Ocean Beach Hotel. It was right across from the Pacific Ocean. You should smell and hear the ocean breeze and the waves crashing against the sand on the shore. The hotel seemed like it was right on the beach from the website, but there was a road between it & the beach. The most disappointing part was we were looking forward to our "ocean view balcany" & it was along the side of the street facing other businesses. Yes, when you looked to the right there was the ocean, but we didn't spend any time out there […] because there was traffic & people walking by along the sidewalk. Beware that there are no balcony rooms here that actually face the ocean or offer any kind of privacy. Other than that, the bed was comfortable & we could walk to several restaurants & bars (although they were mostly also 2 star kind of places). Do take time to walk past the bridge to the rocky area off the beach - you can see lots of sea life there! Being someone who travels for a living, I was very disappointed in this stay. I was very pleased with the staff; they were all very nice & more than willing to accommodate my room change when I was not comfortable with the 5x5 room I was given, and not to mention the freshly painted door smell that penetrated my room. Once changed rooms I didn’t see […] a reason to complain about the generator sounding AC unit in my room (doubt they would have had a replacement), or the paint chip peeling walls. I think it's fine for a night or 2 if you are traveling alone or with another person. I loved the location but the neighborhood might be a turn off to others. A lot of beach dwellers hang out there. Not a good place for families. The beach is great. The hotel has been renovated and is fine but not great. The rooms are adequate.

Housekeeping works hard to keep a run down beach hotel afloat. Electrical outlets were a problem. No outlet in bathroom. So hair drying was done near bed. We had our Apple devices on floor and stepped over charging cords. Dresser drawers needed handles, and we're tough to open. Bathroom had no area for beauty supplies. So again we walked from bed to […] bath with each item.Shower water temperature went from from hot to cold every few seconds.Floor space for one. I love staying in this hotel. It has a great vibe to it, and frankly the neighborhood is fully of free spirits and hippies. Awesome. Resteraunts and shops are all small businesses except for the Starbucks. Access to the beach is incredible!!

This was the perfect location for my trip and I knew it was not a 5 star but would really have to think about returning. I had no hot water for 2 morning showers and waited 15+ minutes another day. They need signs telling guests not to speak on cell phones in the common area off hours, I had to hear a conversation at 5:40am lasting 20 minutes. No outlets […] in the bathroom and otherwise hard to reach, noisey portable AC. The staff was very nice and I saw some renovation being done but it is barely adequate. We decided on this hotel because the price was great for a room on the ocean. What a great choice! Once driving up to the hotel we find that it is on a fun and unique street that is loaded with independent stores, food and bars. Was small.. But yet perfect! My only grip was my room had a urine smell for some reason on the second day. Nothing a candle, Febreeze & opened doors couldn't help! My friends room didn't have the smell. I was having way to much fun to worry about it. Besides, I didn't spend much time in my room anyway. Overall I will definitely go back!

It was awesome. Very close to the beach. There were tons of places to go within walking distance. I never had to use my car. I could walk right across the street to the beach. Amazing view. The pier around the hotel is awesome. You can also bring your dogs for some rooms.
