This hotel is right in the hotel zone with walking access to fancy beach side restaurants. The parking lot and signage area isn't great, but the rest of the place was very pretty. We booked during the off-season - May 23 and 24. We upgraded our reservation a day and half before and got an email confirmation from Hotels.com. When we arrived, they didn't have the room for us. We got it a day late. Sure, we got reimbursed for the difference, but that didn't help the disappointment. First off...Lirios is right by the Caribbean Sea and there are no complaints about the setting, its beautiful. Warm waters, you can see the ocean from your room...that was epic and the receptionist/restaurant staff were really nice and helpful. Now the nitty gritty.... The rooms had some sort of red tinted stains on sheets, window curtains and anything […] that was white linen or cotton. Our first room flooded and had no cold water, yes, thats right, we were taking 90 degree showers in 90 degree weather, "dana! my face is melting and i'm getting second degree burns from this shower" -my wife. We complained and the sweet receptionist switched our rooms. The second room was better but had no water pressure in the shower. View was awesome and air conditioning worked well. No bottled water provided in the rooms and continental breakfast means you get soggy toast, sub-par coffee and tasteless fruitas. This leads us to the issue with breakfast, there were no signs indicating the end of "free continental breakfast" and the beginning of "additional cost american buffet." We were approached by one of the waiters where he said we owed him money... Other than that, the food there was really good and at a reasonable price, the staff was attentive durring meals and they have a really good fish taco plate.You cant go wrong with any of the food there. Beaches are really private and better than Playa Del Carmen. I'd come back to Tulum, just not Hotel Cabanas Los Lirios. Read more

Perfect for a romantic getaway. Get a cabana on the second floor with an ocean view...They are fantastic. Each cabana has a porch with a hammock, two chairs and a small table...Totally decadent. The king suites with ocean view are amazing and not that much more money. This place is all about an amazing room, at a great price, on the best beach there is in Tulum. This isn't really a full service hotel. No TV, no phone, no room service, just a great room. Ziggy's is just a couple of hundred yards to go to a great beach club.

And that's the key - if you want the beach, you got it. This place is literally built on the sand. The best thing was how lovely it was to hear the sound of the waves and nothing else late at night and early in the morning. It's a no frills place: no English spoken here, no food service, no shuttle service, no telephone service, no internet, no television, […] and either a very long walk or 10 minute taxi ride to anywhere to find these services. My friends and I found it to be somewhat overpriced for the amenities offered considering we were here in low season when there was barely a soul on the beaches. We stayed here, early February, in room EA for 8 nights and we couldn't have asked for more. We didn't know what to expect exactly reading the mixed reviews. Pros- Breakfast, so nice to get that every morning- especially because you will see buying water and food quickly adds to your vacation costs. A lot of variety with custom scrambles or omelets, […] yogurt and granola, toast- even pancakes and french toast! Great beach, friendly service, and a clean room with a little view to the beach and private hammock. Cons- their restaurant at night could have more variety and be slightly cheaper - but it could have been the four Don Julio shots we were talked into that raised the bill for two appetizers and four beers to 790 pesos. Also, beds are firm. Suggestion: Rent bikes for about $8 a day in town next to Matae's- eat there also, and the spot next door is great! (sp?) You can bike easily enough to the ruins and Tulum town. Eating in Tulum town is very cheap, obviously not as nice as the hotel restaurants. Eats on the beach: La Bistro next door- a bit pricey, but amazing food. Hotel Om- good calzone and hamburger ( you get the craving a couple of days into mexican food). Overall- amazing stay, nice staff, and beautiful, non crowded beach. FYI- not much excitement happening in town or anywhere near by it seemed- sun went down early and without TV or internet, people tend to go to sleep quickly. Base rate is too high for quality of hotel, so negotiate if possible. Visitors expecting a star resort should stay away, it is not a three star hotel. I booked flight & hotel together through Expedia for a really good deal. I would definitely recommend bringing a printout of your reservation details & not just your reservation #! I reserved an ocean front king suite on the 2nd fl, & they took me to a garden view rm w/ double beds; I had to argue to get the room that I had reserved; also told me that […] I only had continental breakfast included with my room & it wasn't until I accessed internet from another hotel that I saw that I had the breakfast buffet included. If I didn't show them my original document they would have charged me for it! I heard that people had similar experiences with other hotels in the area not having their reserved rooms ready for them when they arrived so maybe this is normal... The hotel's advertised as having internet in the hotel restaurant & room phones but when I got there both had been down for several weeks. My "ocean front" room on the 2nd fl barely had a view of the ocean at all, due to all the vegetation. "Ocean front" rooms on the bottom floors are probably even worse; also: ugly nets that line the border between the beach & the hotel that kind of ruin any ocean view from the hotel. Some nice touches: the maid put a towel in the shape of a swan on the bed one day & tied the tissues into little flowers-cute. beach access good. king suite room is pretty. We stayed in Los Lirios for 5 nights the beginnig of September. We found this to be a great place to say. It is everything it said it would be on the website. The beds were on the hard side, however after a day exploring the area or on the beach we had no trouble sleeping. The room was cleaned very well every day and the maid made animals from towels […] on our bed. We stayed in an ocean view room and had great views and sea breezes from our balcony. There were 2 chairs, a small table, and a hammock on the balcony....we spent a lot of time on it! A breakfast was included. The fruit was fresh, coffee was good, and you got to choose between egg dishes, or hot cakes. Both were good. Our air conditioning unit was leaking the first day we arrived. After contacting the office- it was fixed in just a couple of hours. The staff is very friendly---and want to meet your needs. There is no wifi- no television- not sure about cell phone service as we did not have international calling on ours-----we found that it was VERY easy to relax and enjoy this part of Mexico without being "connected". However, our first room had stains on sheets and shower curtain, as well as small no-see-um bugs biting our ankles in the tile living room. We woke up in the middle of the night with ants crawling in our very very uncomfortable bed. I actually loved this hotel. However, the first night I was on the first floor and the A/C only spat out hot air. The front screen door by which you get the nice ocean breezes didn't lock which wasn't the best for the 1st floor. The A/C worked perfectly which wasn't needed as you could leave the door open to catch all the ocean breeze. The hammock was lovely. The negatives were the smell in the rooms. They used ammonia to clean which lingered; then they placed a air freshener in the bath which was like a porta-potty or dirty gas station restroom. The beds which are advertised as pillow top are not in the least and hard as rocks. The wifi is a joke as it is really a wire you plug in which is about 2 feet long, attached to the host desk in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet is quite a good deal and plentiful. However, don't eat there otherwise, as the prices are immense for the poor food quality. All the negatives being said, it is a lovely location with a tranquil beach. The rooms are large. in my opinion, los lirios relies upon those who put air conditioning and 24 hr electricity as a priority. i say this because i read the reviews of los lirios before i stayed there and even with the negative comments, i had it in my head that august in tulum mexico would be too hot without ac and booked there over other places. for me, in hind site, […] this was a mistake. the staff there really did not care about my comfort. some of the negative reviews were from years ago and having just stayed there (aug.11th 2011) i can say that nothing has changed. the back cabanas where i stayed (in area E) that entire area has a dirty toilet smell. it's not super strong nonetheless, it's a dirty diaper smell which ruins paradise. i can not speak for the cabanas in front near the water but the area i was booked in smelled. i did bring incense and that helped. there is a decent breakfast offered till like.. 1030 am. that was the best i can say. my toilet broke twice. the room cleaning staff (lol) cleaned the floor with FILTHY WATER!! it smelled horrible after she left. and i don't think it's rat poop but something was leaving little dropping all over the room. i even tipped as much as i could and still the staff there did not get it. i think they just know that ac is a luxury in this area so they do not go out of there way to make your experience there as wonderful as it could be. my friends stayed at CASA VIOLETA which in my opinon was a dream. there is no ac there, and there are a few hours when the electricity is down, but the layout at casa violeta is incredible and the rooms are beautiful and comfortable.. i wish i had stayed there. when the sun sets, a strong breeze comes in from the east and cools you down ( in my opinion). it's unfortunate that i do not have more positive things to say about los lirios. the owner really needs to give the staff some etiquette education and some updating., it could and should be an amazing place to visit. Made a reservation for only one day after reading the rat poop story because the price was good compared to the surrounding hotels that offer air conditioning (important when you are dealing with moskito-filled territories). The first day was discouraging, as the sheets smelled strongly of mold and we woke up late for breakfast, however we were lazy […] and the location was perfect to we decided to stay one more day- best decision ever. After they changed the sheets there was no mold smell and we woke to an amazing breakfast the next day. Both my husband and I are from south america and we both know it takes no time for the smell of mold to set into anything in a room that has been closed for a while durring the rainy season. We ended up staying 3 days in Los Lirios- staff is super kind and helpful. One night we ended up going down to dinner at 11pm (the kitchen closed at 10:30pm) and still they managed to make us some quesadillas and guacamole. If you are going o tulum I reccomend getting the ADO bus from cancun airport to playa and then from playa to tulum. I wanted to be away from people and Tulum was perfect.
