Hotel Orcagna - Florence

Our room was completely renovated with very stylish bathroom fixtures. The balcony was very cute and the hotel was quaint. The service was very good with most of the staff speaking at least a little English and providing good information on what to see and how to get around. The breakfast was nice with the poor staff lady bustling around continuously […] to keep items stocked. The breakfast room was a bit small and crowded for the number of guests, but they did the best they could with what they have. The room could use more places for suitcases when there are 4 twins to a room but we made it work. We shopped quite a bit for a hotel and consider this to be fairly rated and priced. It is 3-4 long blocks toting luggage from bus stations in 2 directions and buses can be quite crowded, so that can be difficult on a hot day and factor this into deciding on your transportation. Was outside of the city center but a quick bus ride up to either the hills outside the city or to the old part of the town. If you love to walk it was do-able, but as staff suggested it is easier to take the bus up the hill then walk down. This was my husbands and I first trip to Italy and we were a bit worried going with a less expensive hotel. We were greated by Samone (I believe) she was all smiles and beyond helpful! We truly enjoyed our stay in Hotel Orcagna. Rooms are cleaned and towels are changed every day. Daily Breakfast is quite good - 2 types of cereals, yoghurt, 5 types of croissants, orange juice, hot chocolate, cappucino, brewed coffee. Hotel was great and only a 10/15 min stroll into the old town. Rooms were clean and the staff were very helpful! Would def reccommened the day trip they offer to Siena, San Giminagno and the wine tasting! Breakfast was adequate and nothing to exciting but enough to set you up for the day. The location of the hotel is a little far from the main train station in Florence and the bus makes so many stops it is just as fast to walk the 30 minute distance. One of our main problems was that the A/C was broken in our room so the temperature was about 30C much hotter than outside! Good Points Very friendly and extremely helpful staff. Free internet access. Large double bed that is very comfortable. New/firm bed mattresses. Tiled and very clean bathrooms. Shower over bath in ‘Classic’ bedrooms; shower tray in ‘Economy’ double bedrooms. Plenty of white, new and good quality towels. Double room ‘Classic’ are spacious. A 15 minute […] walk to the City centre. No 14 bus runs frequently to the train/bus station area with the stop 100 metres from the hotel. Area around the hotel is safe and quiet with a number of high quality shops close by. A number of very good restaurants are within a 5 to 10 minute walk. Air conditioning is very effective and unlimited in each bedroom. Speed of PC web site access is very good. Fully stocked mini bar is available in each bedroom and reasonably priced. Breakfast is basic but adequate (choice of 2 cereals, croissants, hard bread/jams, orange juice & water, choice of yoghurts and freshly made tea/coffee) but no fresh cereal as shown on the hotel’s brochure. Bad points A number of rooms are rather small - UK sized double beds and space for one medium suitcase. TV in each room is an old 12 inch tube version. Some noise from other guests as bedroom doors and internal walls are very thin. The free PC only runs IE6 with no Adobe software which makes a number of web sites unusable. The lift is located on the interim landing (up 12 stairs). There is no roof terrace whilst the outside covered area is basic (nothing like the photo). Read more

We had a great 2 nights in the Orcagna - stayed in the room with a view -' il cielo' , and it was comfortable,clean,air-conditioned, and ideal for a glass of Chianti on the terrace! There was even a fridge with very reasonably priced drinks and a bar of chocolate.. not something we had in our first,more expensive hotel. The staff were very friendly […] and helpful, ther was free parking and the walk into florence was fine. We had a fantastic meal- (best of our trip) in La Taverna ,just a few mins walk away - real Italian food and atmosphere,and full of Italians... always a good sign! The hotel is a little out of the way, however it is only a 30 minute walk to the Duomo and is all flat terrain so nothing too difficult. The room was clean, spacious and nicely decorated. The room had air condition which was a godsend after a full day exploring the Florence. The staff knew little English, however we didn't find this to be a difficulty […] at all. We ate in the centre of Florence so cannot comment on any of the nearby restaurants, however there is a convenience shop just around the corner that sells stamps and has a postbox . All in all it is a very good value hotel to use as a base to explore Florence, it is much better than it's 2 star rating implies and is a brilliant fine if you are on a budget like we were. Zu Fuß sind es nur etwa 15 - 20 min in das Zentrum. Es fährt aber auch ein Bus ganz in der Nähe des Hotels. Wir hatten ein Zimmer nach hinten raus mit einem kleinen Balkon. Nicht direkt ein Panoramablick aber für ein Stadthotel ganz angenehm. Das Zimmer hatte eine ferngesteuerte Klimaanlage, die sehr gut funktionierte. Un hotel bien agréable avec un service au top. Il ne faut pas se fier aux deux etoiles car l'hotel depasse pas mal de 3 etoiles. possibilitée de garage, acceuil 24h/24 minibar, menage fait avec minutie et salle de bain nickel. Bref pas grand chose a redire. Une rue peu passante la nuit donc assez calme mais juste au coin de la rue vous retrouvez l'artere […] principale avec ses boutiques qui vous emmene direct au centre historique. Si vous vous sentez cappable de marcher guere plus d'une dizaine de minutes c'est l'hotel ideal. Un conseil faites tout a pied, c'est super agréable de pouvoir oublier la voiture sans se soucier du pacmetre, allez au centre a pied vous traverserez la rue commercante avec ses boutiques de chaussures, vetements et chocolatiers.. pour boire un vrai chocolat chaud.Les restaurants ne manquent pas mais il vaut mieux preferer un trattoria. J'ai apprécié un tout petit restaurant tipique florentin, seulement 4 tables de 4 ou 6 convives en se serrant, le COCOTRIPPONE , c'est a 150metres de l'hotel au 140 de la via goberti, les prix sont tres corrects et la cuisine pas mal du tout. vous pouvez aussi manger a l'ancienne prison de florence, la carceria.
