Mt friend and I were very pleased with this hotel. The front desk was helpful, especially a clerk named Andres. The free breakfast was bountiful and the restaurant we visited for other meals was excellent. The Internet connections in the hotel lobby were fine but there was no place we could go to avoid the smokers. Also, we took the shuttle into town to buy souvenirs and it dropped us off in a residential section with several pricy hotels; we did our shopping at the hotel shop when we returned. The Puntacana Hotel is a part of the larger Puntacana Resort. It is a gigantic complex of a hotel, condos, golf courses, a shopping center and the ocean. I stayed at the Punta Cana Hotel Feb,4,2013. They seen to be going through a transition period. They have the old and the new part. The old part was not to my liking. The room were very old looking. The Tv in the t=room was so very small. Maybe a 18". So small you can hardly see from across the room.The locks on the doors and patio were in bad shape. […] We had had to ask for drinking water. There was a real problem with hot water for the showers. Most of the time thers was no hot water. WIFI in the lobby only. Had to walk 2 blocks to lobby to get on the internet. the room was adequate with an ocean, sunrise view. the grounds were top notch. the beach was beautiful color of teal and white sand, but the water was somewhat murky from boats speeding past from the marina, I suppose. the amenities were excellent with 7 restaurants onsite that were very good. also the tennis courts had ball boys to get the balls and […] keep score. 3 golf courses were top notch with ocean views they do have beach front casitas that are larger than the hotel rooms if you want to pay more and have more persons stay. Hotel was in a lovely setting on a large private beach. At first the size of the grounds seemed intimidating, but once you get settled you can see you can walk to most places that you need. Drinks were AMAZING, except for one at the pool bar, the ba tender should take note how the resturant La Groza ? makes them. Free breakfast had lots of variety, […] but was just OK. We ate dinner once night and lunch at different resturants on site, but that was just OK as well. They forgot my lunch one day and never got compensated at all....The items that were frustrating: the maid never replaced any washcloths (we got 1 when we arrived and then never got another clean one, could have used 2!) also they did not replace any shampoos, soaps, lotions etc...very strange. The golf cart driving also became a distraction for the peaceful setting, you can rent a golf cart to get around and also the staff used them frequently, so if you were walking around you always had to move for them. If chilling on your balcony it was like a freeway for golf carts that made a lot of noise going by, also distracting. I would suggest they limit the use of these or find an alternative for this. Absolutely beautiful hotel. We didn't walk the whole grounds but the pool was beautiful and the room was nice and comfortable. A couple of tips: 1. Call and ask for the VIP shuttle from the airport. They whisk you past all lines including immigration and customs. The only wait was waiting for our bags at the baggage claim. We were at the hotel 20 mins […] after our flight landed. (Which is good, because it took us longer than that just to check in) 2. Bring your own drinks and avoid the hotel prices. A friend was charged $25 for a double shot of Jack (beers were $5, not too bad) 3. Be prepared for a looooooong check in and loooooong check out. When we arrived we were next in line to check in and there were 2 agents. THIRTY MINUTES later we were finally checked in but our room still wasn't ready - and this was after 3 pm. We skipped a lot of the check out line by jumping in with friends, but it would hve take an hour at minimum. I have NO idea what took so long or why there's even a need to physically "check out" in 2013. In short it was a great place to stay before heading to an all-inclusive, but they REALLY need to get the check in/out process down. Read more

Overall not a bad deal. The hotel is very close to the airport-5 minutes-and the $20 airport transfer is WELL worth it! They meet you plane side and wisk you past everyone through a VIP customs line and away you go. No waiting at all! The property is huge and very pretty. Overall this is an acceptable hotel right on a waveless and calm stretch of the ocean. It's a huge and secluded resort so if you're looking to just relax and not interact much with the local culture the Puta Cana Hotel will be a fine place to stay. I'd recommend walking throught the Ecológica reserve and jumping or diving into the Yauya lagoon. Definitely […] have dinner at Playa Blanca and enjoy one of the paella dishes. If you're lucky Wilkins will be your server. Also, have one piña colada per day from the bar in the lobby. If you're looking for an area for wave mashing or surfing, go to Macao Beach. Rooms were a little dated and understated (standard room version) but well kept housekeeping. Property was beautiful, again well kept and very relaxing. Loved the resort, great views, great staff and reasonably priced food. Free wifi in the lobby area, great pool/beaches and close to nice golf courses which are pristine. Will go again!

I was extemely stressed prior to going to Punta Cana. Everything I experienced was instrumental in helping me to relax and become refreshed. The view, scents and sounds of the ocean were amazing. The spa was wonderful. There were a variety of high quality restaurants and I ate at a different one each evening. Most were set in beautiful surrondings, […] overlooking the ocean. Some were pricey. The ecological reserve was also a pleasant experience - I took a long nature walk there, swam in natural springs, and saw some beautiful fruit trees. There were a many different tours available - I went on the Reef Explorer tour and had an amazing time - even held a stingray! AC unit very loud-water for shower takes 10 to 15 minutes to get hot-rooms are ok, but not luxurious. Bed was pretty hard. Staff was friendly and had a great time. Resort property is very large, so recommend renting a golf cart for exploring. Best beach is Playa Blanca at north end of resort and best restaurants are la joya (south end) and bamboo (tortuga […] bay-outstanding food and service). Resort is south of most of the others, which can cause some transportation headaches for excursions. Highly recommend swimming in the lagoon in the indigenous eyes nature preserve on the resort property. Golf courses looked fantastic, but did not play. We're there during off-season (Early August) so there were more staff than guests and pretty much had entire resort to ourselves. Resort is run very well with well-trained staff and well-kept grounds. The resorts north in Bavaro Bay seemed to have more of a party atmosphere, but probably because they are all-inclusive. Just a note, this hotel is very secluded and not very busy(which we loved). We went mid July and it wasn't packed at all. They have around 6 or 7 restaraunts on site and the food was amazing. We had free breakfast each morning complete with an omelet station. We didn't see alot of children but they did have activities available on their itenirary for kids. Also they had an aquatic center on site that was affordable and had different excursion options such as scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, etc. The only thing that I would mention is that the rooms are nice but don't expect 5 star. The room was as expected for the money. We had a king size bed that was okay, but not the most comfortable. However, they kept the rooms very neat and tidy. Service here was key. Every staff member from the front desk to the towel man was very friendly. They went out of their way to accommodate us in every way. However, when I walked further away from my room, we found a spot with no seaweeds floating on shore. The spot was perfect, white sand and warm water. Looks like a bit older than other hotels in the area. Staff doesn't speak much english as is wierd considering their industry & need for such.
