If Amsterdam wasnt such a cool city it would have been an awful trip. After being buzzed in to the hotel which consists of only a door from the exterior you are faced with stairs that can only be compaired with those of medieval catherdals. The staff are unfriendly and unhelpful, our room was cleaned once in four days. The sheets were filthy and stained and insect ridden as was the rest of the 1920's style room. My friends and i were bitten several times. I would not reccomend this hotel to my worst enemy. The location on the other hand was good and very central.

Just a step above a hostel but for the price and the location you cant beat it. If you are high maintenance this is not your place. Most rooms have a shower and toilet but ours didn't but once again for the price no big deal. It was right in the middle of the city close to everything you will need. If backpacking and looking for a good deal this is the place

Not a bad hotel for the price compared to other places in Amsterdam. the room was ok, it had a double bed and a shower room, but had no toilet in the room which is not ideal..... or uncommon in Amsterdam. The staff were helpful and friendly and the location is good too, just 5 minutes from the dam square. by no means is this the Ritz but if you want a basic, reasonably priced place in the city center this is fine, however i would not recomend it for couples seeking a romantic break or families as it is very basic.

You wouldn't want to spend a lot of time in your room here, the rooms are small and the property is rundown. BUT for the price you can't find much better in central Amsterdam, you are only 3 blocks from the palace and 2 blocks from the Anne Frank house. Stair climbing skills are needed to get to the reception desk, two flights up to the "front desk." and then possibly one or two more flghts up to your room.

This hotel is bordering on "hostel" status. I was prepared for the STEEP steps right inside the door because I had read the other reviews about this hotel. So, prepare yourself. The steps are very steep, but I noticed that many other hotels and buildings have the same set up. Holland likes its steep staircases. And There is no elevator in this hotel, by the way. My suitcase was 45 lbs but my friend and I managed to get it up the stairs without breaking our backs. This is a good place to stay for young people. I am 22 and on a budget, so it worked for me. The people at the front desk are very nice, and I felt safe staying there. We stayed for three days and never asked for room service. You hand them your key when you go out for the day. They don't ask for any identification when you return and request your key number, which scared me a little. But I think they recognized our faces because by day 3 we didn't even have to say our room number, they just gave us our correct key. I booked this hotel for its great location and low rate. We walked EVERYWHERE. And for farther places, we took a fun boat ride on the canals to get there. The Anne Frank House was a 5 minute walk. The train station is pretty close too. We only had to take a 3 minute tram ride to and from the train station. Overall I was satisfied, and I would recommend this to young people on a budget :-)

This hotel wasnt bad. We had one double bed and one single bed in our room. A sink and shower were in the room, but the toilet was shared in the hall. Clean sheets but bring slippers because the carpet is well worn and somewhat gross. This hotel is very basic with no tv or phone in the room. There are alot of hotes in this part of Amsterdam and you can probably find a nicer room at a similar rate if you look harder. If you like to have reservations and know you have a place to sleep, then this hotel is good. Its not like you spend alot of time in the hotel room in Amsterdam anyway. There is too much fun to have elsewhere.

We picked this hotel because of it's location. When traveling that is the primary reason we pick hotels since we only use them to rest in. Way too much to see. We actually liked this hotel. It is in a quite area, we could sleep with the windowes open even though it was freezing outside and the church bells ring every 30 minutes. It is close to almost everything you want to see by walking and the far off area's are easily accessed by tram, bus or train. It is an old hotel with friendly and safe staff and the rooms were clean but the beds and linens are old and need updating. I would recommend this hotel to the younger and more adventurous travelers as the stairs up to your room are crazy steep, almost a 45 degree angle. Overall the hotel was good.

I went to Amsterdam for a 5 night stay with a buddy from college, guy's weekend just to basically do a few touristy things and mainly run through the coffeeshops and the finer points of Amsterdam. We knew we would be in an altered mindstate pretty much every night when we'd be back, and wouldn't be spending all that much time in the room so we basically just wanted a place with 2 beds, no rats/bugs, a shower/toilet, closeby to the RLD and city centre, and a place where our things wouldn't get stolen. Hotel Galerij delivered on all of these things. It was exactly what we were looking for. Our room got made up a few times while we were there, during the day when we'd be out, there was a shower and sink in our bathroom, with a toilet room out in the hallway shared with other guests. Beds were okay, we were allowed to smoke in the rooms and it didn't have the dreaded "hotel smell" of your typical smoking room so that was good. There is someone at the front desk around the clock so however late you're out all you need to do is hit the buzzer at the front door and you'll be buzzed in. Word to the wise, if you have difficulty walking up stairs, this place probably isn't for you. Steps are typical of A'dam in that they are very steep and some steps are very small. There's two railings though so that helped us get up the 2 flights to our room (we were in room 25 which is on the street side on the 3rd floor), even when we were a little intoxicated we still managed without tumbling. If you're looking for a reasonably priced, great city center location, and can deal with not being in a 4-star place, the Galerij is a great place to stay. I would definitely stay there again if the price was right.

Fönstret gick inte att stänga helt, pga att fönsterkarmen var rutten. Man tog motvilligt av sig skorna på heltäckningsmattan i rummet. Hål i lakanet.
