"Classic and one of a kind"
The hotel was a little hard to find. After circling three times we actually saw the hotel and drove to it. It is on a little side road. Our GPS got us close but no turkey. The service and breakfast were excellent. The rooms are small. The bathroom was very small. If you have a big beer belly you might not fit in the shower. Since I don't I made do. […] The quaintness of it and the location made up for the inconvenience. It is also a short walk to to the old town. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A bit hard to locate...not in town center"
Easy walk from train station if you know where to go exactly. Google maps didn't pinpoint it enough.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pretty boathotel and cute cabine."
We loved it. Would have loved it even more if our cabine looked out on the canal insted of the bus parking lot. The restaurant is cosie , breakfast good and we advice to have dinner there to....it was delicious.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Floating hotel a 20 minute walk from city center"
Although the weather was terrible during our stay in Brugges, the Boat Hotel De Barge was a welcome place to hide from the elements. The staff was happy to help us find and order delivery dinner since it was too windy and rainy to venture out the night we stayed with them. Walk up the canal and turn straight into the city center within minutes. Brugges […] is a beautiful city. Although the city center is often crowded with visitors in the summer and on weekends other times of the year, there are many activities and places to visit. One of our rainy day favorites is the Groeninge Museum and, of course, the chocolate and beer shops. Be sure to visit the Minnewaterpark on a sunny day. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel close to town"
Breakfast was great, wonderful selection of fresh bakery and while eating you can enjoy watching the ducks and gooses in the canal. Rooms were clean, but a bit small.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice and very intersting"
I never went to a hotel room that have two life vest on the bed. The room is small but very comfortabel. The breakfast is great. It is nice for a couple nights stay. The price is very reasonable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This really is an old barge refit as a hotel. The rooms (cabins) are small - but very tidy and well maintained. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Location is not right in the hear of the city. City center is a very pleasant walk - about 20 min to a half hour. Easy walk to the train station. There are no restaurants nearby (at least 15 min […] walk into the town. The restaurant at the hotel is open only on weekends and is very good - though maybe a little high-end if you are on a budget. The hotel is a VERY short walk from Brugge historic area, on a quiet canal. The hotel & staff are delightful - what can beat waking up to ducks floating outside of your double opening windows, or while you're having a full northern European breakfast ? Room was larger than we expected, very updated bathroom, just a wonderful quiet, restful stay. We […] were surprised what a short walk it was to not only the center & market, but major museums & brewery tour. Would definitely stay again - and certainly return to Brugge! Wonderful location, right on the river. You get a cool breeze off the water during the night. It is a just a short, but beautiful walk, through some of the city gardens into Brugge.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Picture Perfect Setting...Great Location"
Our favorite stay...great hosts...great food....clever bar....barges gliding slowly by.. right outside the windows.......ducks gathering outside the restaurant windows...very close to train station...you do not even have to cross a major street to get to the barge. Not airconditioned, but cool enough for sleeping....a wonderful get away from the normal […] stay. Rooms are small but areas for lounging both inside and outside more than made up for that....think cabin on cruise liner....great memories...would go back in a heartbeat. Interesting barge- hotel. Old. Pretty far outside town. Shares parking with local park. Our room had a nice nautical motif, but smelled a lot like the ducks that swam past our port hole. Room was ratty. Bathroom clean. Staff knocks off at 2000. They were very helful when we asked to leave our bags for the day after we checked out.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Best part of stay was the included breakfast!!! It is an easy walk into the heart of the city. Location is quiet. Could have used air conditioning or at least, a fan in the room. Overall, we were quite pleased!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Tales of the Riverbank"
Thoroughly enjoyable. The only gripe was that the hotel wasn't clearly signposted from the road nearby. We realised that a boat provides is own interest and difficulties and were delighted by the quirkiness.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Wonderful quirky Hotel. Brilliant location within walking distance of town. Very helpfull staff. Great breakfast. Peacefull. Great being woken by ducks quacking! Pity the restaurant isn't open during week, would loved to have tried it. Would recomend to any one and would love to go again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely quirky little charmer"
Thought this place was a great location for people who like to stroll when the weather is nice, although a taxi home from the centre only cost 10 eur. Room was clean and staff were polite. Ideal for couples looking for somewhere quiet to stay on a reasonable budget. Would def recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When I read previous reviews about the staff we entered the hotel somewhat cautiously, but were given a warm and friendly welcome. The room was basic, but clean and faced the river. To use the toilet you had to climb up onto a raised platform, I'm only 5ft 10" but I hit my head on the wall facing the toilet, as did my wife, anyone taller would really […] struggle. The shower cubicle was small but clean and did leak a little, not really worth mentioning apart from a previous review that gave the impression the showers leaked like Niagra falls, they don't. After eating in the restaurant on the first night we didn't even consider going out on the second night of our stay, the food was superb, possibly the best steak I've ever had. Considering the location right by the coach park we thought that there would be a lot of noise, but on entering through the gate you enter a little sun-trap oasis of calm, where you can sit and enjoy a drink while reading a book in the sun, or a pre-evening meal drink. All in all a superb experience, looking forward to returning one day. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel, and it's on a barge."
Strangely enough I hadn't actually realised the Hotel de Barge, was actually a floating hotel on a barge until I got there - seems obvious in retrospect but there you are. Very nice place.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ideal for visit to Bruges"
This was our second visit, the first being 7 years ago. Still a very good place to stay. The public rooms are much improved from last time but the cabins, though clean and adequate, look a bit tired now.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very helpful staff, and easy to find!"
We arrived and realised that we were in a room with a view of the car park, being that my boyfriend and I are both keen sailors and love the water we asked if we could be upgraded to a water view room and ended up in the Captains cabin- gorgeous!!! We received a map of Bruge, and a pass to a large number of museums in the city. We didn't eat there but […] the resturant looked nice, very positive experience!! Probably wouldn't go again, for no other reason than we never stay anywhere twice, but for a one night experience, it's one we will never forget.....BRILLIANT! If your not sure, just do it! Nice central, quirky hotel. Food in the restaurant is excellent but they should warn you about having to book a table for dinner.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ideal location just outside the city"
A great hotel for a short break, the service is very good and the food well worth staying in for. Good breakfast selectionGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Can't fault the hotel at all. Comfy rooms, gorgeous views. Breakfast very, very good indeed. An ideal base for visiting the centre of BruggeGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Location is great if you enjoy walking. Fab walk through park gets you to the lesser tramped areas of the city. Welcome on arrival was excellent but shame the warm, helpful charm disappears at breakfast. Wouldn't recommend this to a friend, but then I wouldn't recommend Bruges either. If you don't mind rude in attentive staff in close, cramped quarters, […] perhaps you will enjoy Hotel de Barge. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"On one side of the town, though walking distance"
It was just okay, nothing spectacular, too expensive. I was charged $178 for a 12 by 10 room, with hardly any space to move around and the window opened to a bunch of bushes with no view at all. Resturant service was good and dinner ok.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fun on the river"
It was great. Our compliments to Dardan who was very helpful during our stay. The breakfast was good with a nice assortment of food. The mattresses and pillows were not as comfortable as the rest of the accommodation. The river atmosphere was fun.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Very pleasant stay in a highly unusual property/location. Food is good, staff were mostly very friendly, hotel is full of character.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We loved the barge hotel. We were placed in 3 adjacent rooms which seems to have been too difficult at other hotels. Rooms were compact but used the space very efficiently. The breakfast was included at no extra cost and it was self serve in the beautiful nautically themed restaurant. We had great views of ducks and boats outside the windows and plenty […] of options to suit all of our tastes for breakfast. It still has a cosy and friendly atmosphere but plenty of room to move. We strongly recommend the Barge Hotel especially if canals and barges are a novelty like they were for us. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Warm welcome optional???"
The receptionist was extremely unwelcoming. We had driven from England and wished to use the toilet facilities before we checked in. The receptionist directed us outside to the public toilets under a nearby bridge! I replied with a confused look on my face and a smile 'but we are staying here' She then asked for our passports. She did not smile or apologise! […] I even tried making conversation with her as we all have our 'off' days, however this was clearly in vain. I have to wonder how she ever ended up in the hospitality industry. The place itself I thought was adequate (apart from the obvious above), the breakfast was fine. I just had to smile when I read the brochure as one of its selling points was that it guaranteed a 'warm welcome' - clearly the lady in question had not read the brochure! "Avoid if you are a non-smoker!"
Guests allowed to smoke downstairs next to dining room. Smoke infiltrated our bedroom via the cupboard where there was water piping installed. When we checked out, the manager did not even bother to ask us how our stay was so I told him about the cigarette smoke in our room. He still did not bother to apologise for the inconvenience and discomfort that […] it caused us. This was not advertised (smoking permitted) as we would never have booked this hotel via Expedia if it was! This hotel could be so much better with different management and policies! Different, quirky. The breakfast was worth it, don't forget bread for the ducks. Just close enough to Bruges to be away from the crowds but an easy walk into Town.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice, but could be better"
Pleasant stay overall, however, our main problem was the very uncomfortable mattresses (very firm). We didn't complain as our stay was only a few days, and we were told that there were no other rooms available (when we asked if we could have a canal side room instead of a coach station view!) There is a nice canalside restaurant which is only open at […] weekends, but the breakfast in this room offers a good choice of food to start the day. Unfortunately the nice sitting room next to the restaurant smells of smoke as it doubles as a smoking room, which you can also smell when you come into the hallway. It's quite a walk from barge to town centre, with cobbled streets everywhere (lovely and quaint, but painful on your feet so take good shoes!) It was nice enough, but could have been better. "A great location for a visit to the old city."
An excellent location, quiet but just a short walk from the old city and with free parking. The room was small but adequate and well maintained with a great view over the canal. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and the dining room, at river level, was very good as we were able to watch the water fowl swim by whilst eating. I would personally […] have prefered the coffree not to have come from a machine. The staff were friendly and very helpful, I would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely idea - pity about the neglect"
My wife & I really liked this hotel its just a pity that the staff/management doesn't! We had our initial room changed due to a faulty TV but that was only after a couple of attempts to find staff to complain to & also for him to 'fix' it. I say it like this because despite me telling him what the problem was, he insisted I was wrong then bungled about […] trying his own method before grudgingly offering a another room. The TV wasn't a big issue but the way he dealt with it seemed so! The decor is nice and probably would benefit from a little maintenance to help things stay where they should. Our REPLACEMENT room had a shower that wouldn't stay upright & the door was so loose it allowed the water to run right out onto the wooden floors. The breakfasts are great though. Unfortunately there are signs around the boat telling you of the great meals you can have but you can only dine at the weekends according to the guest information folder. The hotel's location is ideal for being away from the busy city centre but close enough to easily walk there. If the business had a more attention to service & maintenance then the hotel could be really amazing. The local ducks come past your window & potter about while you have breakfast! hotel on the canal, which was very romantic. made up for the fact that we were a 15-20 min walk from the town centre. lodgings were great for the price. everything worked well and was clean. internet access was fast.only problem was that we were short on pillows. only found more pillows the next morning. well recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Very impressed with the hotel. After reading some reviews before travelling we were concerned with comfort and room sizes but on arrival were pleasantly surprised. Our room was more than adequate in size, nicely decorated with nice en-suite facilities. The room was warm and cosy with adjustable heating. The buffet breakfast offered a good choice of […] foods. Location wise the hotel is on the outskirts of the city centre but only a short stroll through minnewater park to all the main attractions. "Boathotel de Barge quirky stop off"
Personal greeting when I arrived on my own at 21.30 on Wednesday evening, with a beer and a meal organised just after I had arrived, having chosen something from the menu when I arrived (dining alone), which was a nice touch after a 7 1/2 hour drive from Stuttgart that day. Nautical theme continues throughout, with lifejackets provided in the rooms […] on the bed, more as a design touch rather than a safety feature (although perhaps legally necessary nonetheless)! A large barge, with rooms ample room, with a fairly small bathroom, but not too small. I could have stayed (or a couple) for a week easily, but was just on my way home from Germany, so took in Brugges the next day before I drove to Calais for the tunnel. An easy 20 minute walk in to the town market square through a park and some historic streets was also very pleasant, so can leave the car parked at the free hotel parking for the day. Hotel had free wifi, best on the hotel stairway, near reception and landing area, but also did work in my room (no. 23), just off the main staircase upstairs. All in all, very good. "De Barge October 2011"
The Hotel located on the Canal was far enough out of town for peace and quiet but close enough for a 10 - 15 minute walk to the centre of town. The staff were very welcoming, especially the restaurant staff. The food was very good. The Hotel made our holiday. Will definately go again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Can't see me going back there"
The hotel is in a convenient location with ample free parking. This I would say is one of the few plus points. The breakfast was basic, but ample for my needs. The room was very small, the bed intolorably uncomfortable. The hotel had a smell of sewage all over it. I would say this smell comes from the canal. It is very offputting. There is a smokers […] room which also fills the whole of the hotel with smoke. This I found very offensive. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. My advice is to pay more for a comfortable holiday. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
