The room I requested was a King but only rooms with two Queen beds were available. The room itself is quite nicely done. I had an interior balcony room overlooking the open atrium. The view was extremely nice and listening to the water features was nice during the day. I was a bit nosy in the atrium during my first night until well after midnight....I […] could hear groups of people being loud. While I do not hold this against the hotel (there are several restaurant venues with "outdoor seating" in the atrium) to keep guests completely silent in the atrium late at night, potential guest should know it may not be silent all the time. The housekeeping staff...or maybe it was done remotely...would reset the thermostat to 72 even though I had set it lower to my comfort. I can understand setting the thermostat higher on an unoccupied room but if a guest is not scheduled to check out the thermostat should not be changed. "Nice but over priced"
Hotel is great for amenities offered but I was very disappointed in bathroom for the price. For less, I can usually expect a nicer bathroom with a large separate shower and glass door, not a bath tub with a plastic shower curtain like I had...nothing any better than a basic motel for the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and TV was a good size. […] A minibar in room would be expected at this price point for a hotel of this caliber, but it did have a mini fridge with two comp bottles of water. Overnight parking is way overpriced. The restaurants are better than average. I think the hotel should offer some sort of voucher to use on site at one of their restaurants since everything at the Gaylord is overpriced. I give it a 4 overall since VALUE is often very subjective and some may find it fine. My work takes me to international destinations so I have to compare in that context. I would recommend this hotel if you don't care much about bang for the buck and want to stay somewhere with better than average food selections in the hotel. It's also very lovely at Christmas time. "Very good but too expensive resort hotel in Dallas"
We discussed at the end with the manager at the reception about the daily resort fee. We choosed this hotel in particular because they have an outdoor area with tubes and several pools called Paradise so that our daughter can have some fun. But we learnt that this year is the very first year where the Paradise area will be opened in May instead of March […] like in the years before. There was no hint at the internet page so we felt us betrayed. Especially the daily resort fee seemed us too much in that case: it includes also a in-room bottled water, internet access, a newspaper which we never got and the fitness center access. Sorry, but internet access and access to the fitness center should be part of the room rate and not covered by an extra fee. You pay also for parking. We know other resort hotels in big cities where this is also free. It was disappointing for us because the hotel is not cheap. This is the reason for the "OK" overall rating. The Gaylord Texan does not disappoint. The hotel was is so amazing and there is so much to do and see. There is really no need to leave the hotel, but if you do, you are so close to many more local attractions. Everyone at the hotel was so friendly and helpful and really made you feel special. The hotel is a destination. So it is a great place to go for a weekend. The reatutants and atmosphere are very good. The hotel doesn't seem to have enough workers. Long waits for basic services. Had a big 30th party for a friend with a huge group of family and friends...they were able to ensure our rooms were on the same floor and even gave the birthday boy a nice gift in his room. "Extremely unhappy, for a business and leisure trip"
I believe It was wrong of your hotel to book guest knowing that the Cabi convention was going to block off all the middle portion of the hotel. I arrived at 6;30pm, and was hungry with no decent place to eat after I settled into my room. When I came downstairs sometime later, I was stopped and told I could not enter the area where the eateries were […] located. I do not eat pizza. There were added fees and a very high gratuity added to my bill. The gentleman who brought to food I must say was very nice, so I tipped him personally. I also has to call until 2:00 am and they still did not answer or pick up my food cart until the next morning. I paid for full hotel access, and did not get that. My bill was almost $400 and I did not get my monies worth at all. I feel that I should be given some kind of substitution because I was so upset I just stayed in my room and saw nothing the hotel had to offer because of this unforeseen situation. My boyfriend was coming the next day which was Sunday so that we could spend some time together , and I had to tell him I checked out early because of what happened the night before!. We are both extremely busy and have little time because of our jobs, so this was a special weekend and was ruined for us. "Would stay here but"
Our stay was great until the last day. Our room wasn't cleaned until 6:00 PM and then no coffee, towels and face clothes were left. My granddaughter used the room phone to call us 3 times and we were charged $20.00/call. Since she got our cell answering machine, she called back a couple more times. She didn't talk to a person and the call lasted less […] than a minute, but we were charged $20.00. Because she is 11 years old, I thought these charges would be reversed without question. The front desk, Terry Ann, informed me they would remove only 1 call. I later spoke to a manager and was told 2 would be removed. Many hotels don't even allow long distance calls from the room. I will contact my credit card company about the other $20.00 charge. Though we have stayed at the Gaylord Texan before, my opinion is not as high as before. We went to the Gaylord for two reasons: 1. We went to see the Christmas decorations. They did not fail us in the respect. The decorations around the resort were fabulous. 2. We went to see Ice Nutcracker. We felt this was overpriced. Considering it takes about 10 minutes to go through we felt that $30 a person was way too expensive. It was rather small for the price and the bedding was nothing special. I have had much nicer bedding at less expensive hotels. 2. The lights in the bathroom were weird. When you turned them on, it took forever before they were bright enough to even use. 3. There was a hair dryer that was provided. I used it for a while and turned it off. The Gaylord Texan Resort is ok to good for a day trip to experience the atrium. As far as hotel, I rate is a 2 on scale of 1 to 5 (5 being excellent). when I take a hotel room, I want to be able to take a good shower and relax in my room. Nether of these needs was satisfied at the Gaylord. Very poor shower pressure. Bath Tub small. When bath water […] turned on there is a rush of sand (each and every time if water left idle for an hour) Finally and most important, there is not a decent chair to relax in. The frig in the room was not working the second frig they assured me it would work, but it did not it ruined the milk I got for my son. The third frig finally worked. "Great Girls Weekend!"
We brought our 10 favorite girls to this resort for a girls getaway weekend. The pictures don't do justice for HOW HUGE this place is. With all the restaurants, bars, spa/sauna/steam rooms, indoor saltwater pool, outdoor pool with lounge bar/grill, and on-site night club, and ample photo opportunities, this place kept us busy for days, we didn't leave […] once! Our favorite part was the Glass Cactus, which was a quick shuttle ride from the front lobby, with a 70's funk cover band, dressed the part; there was a Lexus sponsored photo booth upstairs-- seems there's always plenty going on here! The only "downside" was due to the size of this resort, everyone that worked there seemed to be mildly annoyed with the customers, making us feel like another piece of cattle to get through the gate. Also... I must advise, the Old Hickory Steakhouse was LESS THAN IMPRESSIVE. We felt like we extremely overpaid for everyone to leave dissatisfied and hungry! Small menu selections, with small portions, of jerky-type bland-bordering nasty meats... not seasoned or flavored for what you'd expect for a such an EXPENSIVE piece of meat. All ten of us shared the same less than impressed experience at this fine dining restaurant... "Too much for too little"
For the amount of money I payed for the room, the hotel was a huge disappointment. I booked a room with two King beds and it said it had a couch also but when i arrived they gave me two queen beds and no couch. When I called down the lady was very rude and said that it is all they had and there's nothing they can do about it. The "suite" was very small, […] the was carpet dirty and stained, and it smelt like pizza in a bad way. It had free wifi but then I had a resort fee so I don't consider it free. You have to pay $17 for self parking but I knew that. The Glass Cactus was a classier club, but nothing to brag about. The hotel itself is pretty. I just wished they put as much effort into the rooms. The location was good as far as being on the lake and the club is close although it is far from everything else.
