I paid for a deal through Expedia, it took 1 hr to check out because they were not going to accept my price. I paid for the room plus the 100 hotel credit . They were not going to accept it if I was not prepared with my documents and emailGenuine Expedia guest review
too noisy , too long to get valet car, too long of a line to check in....just not enough staff to handle volumn of people....no attendant for towels at outside pool in early amGenuine Expedia guest review
Long lines to check-in with only 3 people working front desk. All water dispensers at front desk empty. Room service trash in the hallways. Peeling wallpaper in the room and A/C would not cool as low as we wanted.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay was terrible. When we checked in to our room, they gave us a room with 1 King bed for 4 people to sleep in. They said they would "comp" us a roll-a-way for our two boys to sleep in together and told us it was a full size roll-a-way. It was a twin bed and there is no way a 12 year old and a 9 year old could sleep together in that thing! Then […] they lost our luggage for several hours so we weren't able to take the kids swimming or do anything the night of our first stay. They finally found our luggage that the bellman had taken to the wrong room and brought it to us. No apology, nothing! While we were waiting on our luggage, I tried to go to a store and our room key wouldn't let me out of the parking garage! By this time, I was wondering why this place had such great reviews! I have to say, our room was spacious (other than the roll-a-way sitting in the middle of the floor) and clean. They did end up comping our parking. I do not consider the fact that they "comped" the roll-a-way a good gesture AT ALL. When I make a reservation for 4 people I expect to have a place to sleep for all 4 people. My 12 year old slept with us two of the nights which meant none of us really slept well. The last night he tried sleeping in the chair in our room and that was even worse. I have to also say that I did expect the food and drink prices to be high since it is a resort but I felt they were ridiculous. We will NOT be going back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would not go back."
It was okay but I would not return. I loved the Spa and workout area. Found the food to be mediocre. The checkin process was a nightmare, the line wrapped around the lobby. The servers were fairly abrupt and slow in every restaurant we went to....The pool water seemed murky and there were people waiting for chairs and lurking at you to leave. "Good. But not great"
My daughter and I went down for a girls weekend and though we requested an atrium room, we were given a parking garage view. We let that go but were interrupted twice in the early evening by housekeeping and had to verify that we were supposed to be there with them and the front desk. That's never happened anywhere to me before. The grounds and restaurants […] are awesome as well as the little shops, but the doors are really loud when neighbors are coming and going and the beds are too hard! Surprising for the price. We stayed over the 4th of July weekend, and it is their busiest weekend of the year... they said. Hotel is Great, beds are VERY hard, pool service was SOOOOOOOOoooooo slow if any at all. Way under staffed in that area. But over all a very good stay, and i will return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Terrible hotel but lots of ambiance!"
We will NEVER go back to the Gaylord Texan!!! First let me just say it is a beautiful hotel but very dysfunctional! When we first got there we were hungry and instructed to go to the Texan Station with the description that it was an upscale Chilis. The only thing upscale was the price and the food was not as good as Chilis. In fact my son gagged when […] they brought a grey looking turkey sandwich! I read the reviews on Urbanspoon and they gave that restaurant a 36% approval rating and I can see why.we did not eat anywhere else in the hotel as the reviews were similarly bad! The other thing really bad about this hotel are the fees: 18.00 per day parking, $124.00 resort fee in addition to $250.00/per day hotel fees! We should have saved our money and gone to an all inclusive Mexican resort. In addition the vending machine on every floor did not work! When I called about that the woman I spoke to said she knew about that and told us to go to the little sundry store downstairs which of course charged more than the vending machines. Lastly only one elevator in our wing worked which was terrible for the amount of people needing to use it. We did have fun going to the local aquarium and Rainforrest Cafe but my advice is to save your money, go to Embassy Suites where you can get a hot breakfast and happy hour and to enjoy the local activities without the exorbitant fees! "Loved sitting indoors!"
It was Father's Day weekend so there were lots of kids. We got checked in quickly, but I had called ahead to ask for a full sized balcony which we didn't get. We had a very small "Juliet" balcony. The walls are paper thin so we could everything everyone said in the hallway and next door. It was nice to sit on our small balcony and enjoy the view of […] the atrium and it not be hot. My husband called it a "Southwest Disneyland". The Steakhouse had wonderful food and service. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel and resort are beautiful with wonderful service and a great location. Through a communication breakdown our son ended up sleeping on the floor. (a cot in the room would have violated fire code).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Had a $19 resort fee hotels.com didn't mention or cover. Not bad but hate things that are not mentioned. One of the bottles of water in fridge had been opened and not replaced. "Can't wait to go back!"
The Gaylord Texan is an incredible hotel. The grounds are beautiful; as advertised, it includes a wine vineyard, swimming pools, outdoor fireplaces, a jogging/walking path, coffee shops, night club, bars, lounges, multiple restaurants, and winding walkways that meander throughout the property. The hotel's property is very large and conveniently attached […] to its convention center. It was easy to get to/from my hotel room and the meeting areas each day. Food at the Smoke House restaurant is out of this world and is a must for any business travelers; small children and families are not well suited for this high-end venue. At the Smoke House I had the best rib eye steak of my life and a habenero creamed corn side dish that I am still dreaming about one week later. This particular restaurant is very expensive but well worth it for a special occassion or nice night out. My room was large, clean and comfortable. Check-in/out was fast and convenient. The only disappointment with my trip was the surrounding neighborhood: the downtown historic area was instantly forgetable and the nearby outlet mall offerred nothing either. In the future, I won't waste my time exploring these other areas... the hotel property offers all of the luxury and convenience that I need. I can't wait to go back! "Prom Night - UGH"
It was prom night for one of the local schools - which was kind of fun to see all the girls dresses, BUT -- we had a loud group of teens in the room next to us that we had to call security about in the middle of the night. "A grand venue to be avoided."
Certainly a sight to behold, but there are significant problems for serious travelers. A. Parking is a catastrophe. As a business traveler, the Texan's central location in the metroplex and the fact that everyone knows where it is and enjoys visiting is great, but I had to worry about the parking fee for all of the clients I invited out. Unless they […] spent $25 they had to pay the parking fee, or we could do a wild charade where I went with them and got them out of the parking lot with my room key. Apparently, the fact I was staying here was not reason enough for my guests to enjoy free parking and the staff wouldn't budge on this. B. With as large as it was, the only venue open late was "Texas Station" - a sports bar. I needed a quieter venue for hosting clients but nothing was open. C. As nice as the place is, the rooms seem like a La Quinta. Very basic and depressing. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Our family decided last minute to book at Gaylord Texan and we were blown away from the moment we walked in. Our kids (15 and 12) had a good time and we had tons of stuff to do. "Paper-Thin Walls & Substandard Rooms"
The room decor and amenities were not what one would expect for an expensive resort. Further, the walls are paper thin. We could her normal volume speaking from the adjacent room as though they were in our room. We were also rudely awaken to children whining early in the morning. When addressed with the front desk, they simply apologized and explained […] that the walls were thin. Not exactly a remedy of our poor experience. We will never stay at this hotel again. "Great Hotel IF You Have Kids!"
this hotel used to be a favorite of ours, but the last few trips if has transformed into a Disneyland feel. "Few frustrations, but still great place"
The Gaylord is a great hotel - it's a bit massive and overwhelming, but very impressive! Our only issue was that we checked in around midnight (I had prepaid through Expedia for the room and it was guaranteed to be held for us), and we were told that they had overbooked and the room we reserved wasn't available. They offered to put is in an upgraded […] room for one night, but we would have to move rooms on the next night. It all worked out, but were just frustrated because the guy checking us in kept saying "one second" and would go back to the office for several minutes - only to return, try a few things on the computer, and then go back to the office again. Finally, he told us about the overbooking. The "upgraded" room was a bit of joke - it was the same as the other room, it just had a balcony facing the atrium - which was actually annoying because it was so loud with all the people out there. We were frustrated the next day to have to take extra time to move our room, but when my husband talked to the manager, she was very nice and paid for our valet parking for both days and promised to send cake balls to the room. The next frustration was that while we were gone for dinner, they delivered the cake balls, but somehow deactivated our keycard, too. So when we came back, we couldn't get into the room. We had to wait for security 10 minutes to come let us in - he said it appeared in the computer that we had "checked out that day, but he would handle it." Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I know its the holidays, and lots of people in the hotel looking at decorations or the ICE Exhibit, but the place was under staffed. We tried to eat dinner at the Italian Rest in the Atrium, and after waiting two hours, we finally gave up because we had our 4 yr old grandson with us. We headed to the room to eat room service pizza at 9:15 at nite.... […] My problem is that the restaurant appeared to have open tables, people standing in line with us that were over an hour past their reservation time, and three young ladies standing at the podium just looking great (because thats all they were doing is looking great) and not helping anyone in line.... I will visit again next year, but drive back home without staying.... Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not for us"
Grounds and River Walk are extremely beautiful. Rooms were very disappointing with poor quality mattresses and paper thin walls. We felt like we were sleeping in the middle of a daycare with all the crying babies and screaming kids and doors slamming over and over. Food at on site restaurants was horrible and tasteless. "Nice, but not worth the price"
We stayed on a Saturday night during the Christmas season, and the lobby was unbelievably crowded at all hours. Do not book this hotel at this time of year unless you don't mind TONS of small children running around. While the Christmas decorations were nice, they were not as spectacular as we had envisioned. The hotel itself was nice, but the room […] was nothing out of the ordinary. We had to call and request our "complimentary" newspaper in order to receive it. The staff was very friendly and valet parking was efficient and fast. At checkout, they had no record of our stay already being paid for through Hotels.com and I was glad I had a hard copy of my receipt with me. Overall, this hotel is nice, but not worth the price you pay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
