I was seeking accommodations near Yosemite, and was happy to find the Cedar Lodge. Scenic drive up highway 140 and easy to find. Surprised how large the Lodge was. Pleased that the room was clean and roomy, with fridge and coffee maker too! Wish I had stayed another day so that I could enjoy the walking areas next to the Lodge. Only disappointment was the restaurant, ie, only the quick food diner was open. It was very crowded and tables were uncleared, so we left. But we found excellent dining down the road at the Cedar Lodge's sister Lodge, at their restaurant The River. I plan to come back in the summer when I can enjoy the Lodge's outdoor pool and walking trails.

Even though the hotel was a little out dated, it was clean and the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect, very close to Yosemite Valley, and right across the Merced River where you can take a nice walk around the area. The Cedar Lodge Cafe on the other hand, was not very good at all. We came in for a breakfast at 9:45 on a Saturday, the place was a big mess, only one person taking care of everything. The tables were not cleaned and full of dirty dishes. We were not able to eat, because they stopped serving breakfast at 9:30am. It would've been perfect if there was enough staff to take care of everyone's needs. Happy Staff,Happy Customers! I would definitely come back to stay at the lodge!

Got exactly what I needed: a nice clean bed, great service from front desk (thank you Michael!!), free and convenient parking, clean bathroom, coffee, etc. Got some bonus treats too: a recreation room with freshly baked cookies, Christmas decorations galore and more free coffee. Ordering WiFi is pretty expensive. Also, got no phone signal whatsoever. Close to Yosemite. Nice restaurant/bar--servers get pretty slammed (saw a lot of cheap customers not tipping--not cool! If your food takes awhile, it's probably an understaffed restaurant. Complain to a manager or a cook, don't take it out on your waiter!) Overall, good experience. I'd come back.

Basic, no-frills place to stay near Yosemite -- we booked at the last minute so maybe the price was higher than normal, but for what we paid, the cleanliness and condition (especially of the bathroom) was sub par. The bathroom walls had mold/mildew, cobwebs, etc., and the tub/shower fixture would nearly come detached from the wall when turning the water on, and it just kept turning around and around with no way to tell what was supposed to cold or hot, and it would alternate hot/cold even after finding the warm spot. Otherwise it was an okay place to spend a few nights, and we had no other options.

The best places to stay while in Yosemite is IN Yosemite National Park in Yosemite Valley! El Portal- in my opinion is the closest town to any of the Yosemite Park Entrances- approx 12miles. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay in the park because it was sold out the time i went. I ended up booking a night here at Cedar Lodge in El Portal for the night. Not much to the town- few motels just like this one. I ended up paying $150 for the night- which was WAYYY overpriced for what you get but because i had no other option- I paid it. The good thing about Cedar Lodge is that it is well lit, big parking lot. general office has a small store inside for snacks and drinks including alcohol. there is a restaurant and bar that i saw. i only used the restaurant in the morning for breakfast ( not included in hotel price) and it wasn't great but it did it's job. the hotel room was clean from what i saw but outdated and the bed was hard and uncomfortable. i didn't sleep well at all. ice machine in my area was broken staff at front desk seemed friendly

A warning if you are a connection junkie. There is virtually no cell service in the area. The hotel's paid Internet is very slow. The hotels lobby Internet connection requires a $5/hr fee. The heating system in the rooms is very loud and the inability to shut off the very loud bathroom fan is pretty irritating. Other than that pretty much run of the mill mediocre stay.

Reasonable rates, eight miles from entrance to Yosemite. An older motel but rooms were comfortable. Restaurant was closed for the season but bar and grill were open; good assortment of adult beverages but typical "grill" menu - burgers and such, good but only for a couple of nights. Yes, I would stay there again.

The hotel was just alright - neither terrible nor amazing. The rooms were clean, but very basic. It's very close to the village in Yosemite, so conveniently located. My boyfriend and I very much enjoyed our morning swim in the heated indoor pool, followed by a short stint in the very hot hot tub.

Stayed there for two nights for a weekend get-away to Yosemite. Hotel is located on the main road to the park 15 mins drive away. It is extremely overprized, but I have no other hotels in the area to compare it to, so maybe that's just how they do it. For that prize they could at least include a free breakfast, but it is $13 on top (it is a good breakfast buffet, I'll give them that). Furthermore, wifi is not included, and is really expensive, so if you are one of those people who can't live without it, you might wanna reconsider (you'll get no cell service anywhere in the area). Rooms are nice and relatively big, good beds but nothing fancy. A pleasant stay, but I think I will look for something else (closer to the park and cheaper) next time.

We stayed for the weekend, while visiting Yosemite. The hotel is very near to Yosemite Village. Room was OK - better than what we were expecting after reading some reviews. The issue with this hotel are the restaurants (which I understand are operated independently). Breakfast is buffet style, and so-so. Not worth the price. Have your b-fast at the park instead. Than there's dinner. Service is VERY slow, and not much effective. While we were eating, we saw people wait some 45 minutes in line (yes, you have to wait in line to order) and then ANOTHER 45-60 min to have their meals served. And then, to make things worse, they stop taking orders at 9:30PM. On a Saturday. Unfortunately we didn't see alternatives nearby. Would I stay there again? Definitely. But I would avoid the restaurant.

Using this hotel as a gateway to Yosemite is a good choice, as it's just on the way to the park entrance. The hotel in it self rates at about a 3 out of five. The room were large, the beds were okay comfortable, it had a tv, but we did not really use it. Wifi was (as expected) costly and were not sharable between devices, which for our family was a real down side. We tried the indoor pool, our daughter did, none of the rest of us felt like using it as it did not really look clean. The restroom next to the pool was really dirty, and not a place where you would change clothes. Would we come again? Yes, if none of the other places around were vacant.

The prices in El Portal are very high. Gas is crazy and you only have 2 restaurant choices. If you stay there be prepared to get price gouged on everything. The first night I was there I turned on the water to take a shower putting the knob in the middle like normal and stuck my hand in to check the temperature. It was scalding hot and burnt my hand, and I don't have dainty girl hands. I have cal aced work hands so it burnt a little on my palm and the webs of my fingers rather badly. The hotel offered no restitution of any sort nor did they seem interested in fixing the problem. It took me explaining to them that if it had been a child it could have seriously hurt them for them to even offer to take a look at the problem. I would defiantly not recommend this hotel, or this area. If you are looking to stay in Yosemite I would suggest looking at anything in the Wawona area. It is much nicer down there and the prices for everything are much more down to earth.

The proximity of the hotel to the park was the only advantage to staying in this hotel. The hotel was built in 1978 and has been updated but it hasn't been kept up. The room was clean but average and had a fair amount of room for two people as it had a small table in it as well. The bathroom and service were my biggest complaints. The bathroom had LOW FLOW shower heads and sinks. The sink didn't even have enough pressure to rinse my toothbrush. The shower head was built for people under 4 1/2 feet tall. It is mounted very low and hits about mid torso. It was also low flow and it was hard to rinse the shampoo out of your hair. The bathroom door also wouldn't shut properly and you had to really push the door hard to get it to shut. The tub/shower combination was also cracked so badly that surely the subfloor was ruined underneath. It was about a 6" crack. The number of towels that they give you is ridiculous. We even left a note to ask for additional towels, and they gave us less than the day before. We also had 3 pillows on our king size bed the first night, but the second night after housekeeping came we were left with only two. Breakfast of any kind is NOT included. For the premium price I would expect some type of breakfast. I recommend staying in Oakhurst. Yes the drive into the park is a little longer but you will be met with cheaper groceries, cheaper gas, cheaper hotel rooms and more restaurant options.

This is a nice hotel close to Yosemite. There are not many restaurants in the area, but you don't go to Yosemite for the food. There is a restaurant at the hotel- one of the few in the area. The rooms are spacious, generally well kept, and clean. Staff is courteous and friendly. Would stay here again.

I notch above a Motel 6 and not worth the price. However if you are only looking for a place to shower and go near Yosemite then this is okay. Be prepared to tolerate the horrible food - you have no other choice. Consider staying in Mariposa... a litle further to drive to the park but you are not held captive and have more choices for food and night activities.

It was a decent hotel but I think they charge WAY too much per night for what you get out of it. We paid $200 a night for a Friday and Saturday. It might have to do with their proximity to Yosemite but I still thought it was overpriced. The hotel was fine otherwise. No issues that I can think of.

The hotel room was pretty good. It was nice and clean. It has an adjacent restaurant, where good food is available though the options are limited. The bed was not really good. The major problem is the lack of mobile signal and internet communication. This is a problem in most of the Yosemite valley and not particular to Cedar Lodge. The hotel is located on the Highway to Yosemite valley. So its location is pretty good. The hotel staff was not very cooperative. Overall Cedar Lodge is a good option and yes I will go back to Cedar Lodge if the opportunity to go to Yosemite arises.

Do yourself a favor and stay In Oakhurts. The "town" of el portal is in the middle if nowhere with no services or cell phone / internet coverage available, and the hotel knows this. The hotel will charge you for wifi, local calls, anything they can to fleece you while you're staying there. Everything is WAY over priced (gas, food, store), El Portal knows they can charge because there isn't anywhere else within an hours drive. They do have closer access to Yosemite valley floor, but that's about it. If I go again, I'll stay in Oakhurst, more options for gas/food/stores/CELL PHONE!, etc. and the drive from Oakhurst to the valley floor is beautiful!

The front desk staff were very helpful. We need some extra time to rest in the room, and they extended our check-out time, which was really helpful. The hotel was old, but everything works.

The restaurant and hotel was exactly what I needed it to be for my trip to Yosemite. Nothing super fancy but the place was clean, the people were nice, the location was convenient and the food at the restaurant was decent and feeling after a long days of hiking in Yosemite.

Not worth the price, but had no choice closer to Yosemite to stay. For what they charge, I would think they could have proper maintenance (plumbing work shoddy, AC unit not secured in the wall), train employees to provide some pleasant customer service, and provide free Wi-Fi (the whole area is dead to most phone and 4G service providers, be ready to pay ~$10/day for wi-fi). A groundskeeper used a leaf blower on the dirt picnic area every morning, as well as the rest of the property. I could tolerate "eyesores" like leaves and twigs on the ground in order to breathe the clean mountain air. The office staff was apathetic, didn't show any emotions or inquiry when I checked in or out. No coin laundry onsite. The room was clean. Pool was clean. On site grill/restaurant was clean, service and presentation was good, but food preparation and quality was lacking. Cheeseburger looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp 90 minutes. Overall, a 3 star facility at 4 star prices. I would stay there again if I had no other choice.

Quite pricey, considering everything is extra, including internet and landline phone service. Because of the remote area, we were in the "dead zone" for celphone use but would have liked to know that in advance and you are pretty much forced to use their restaurants for meals since there's nothing else around.
