Staff was very nice! The hotel itself is older and a little run down, but the room was clean and comfortable. There's a nice little Mexican restaurant on site. Good food at a reasonable price. Hotel is close to great sites, such as, The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library, Birthplace & Grave Site in West Branch, IA. The future birthplace of Capt James […] T Kirk in Riverside, IA (for the Star Trek fans out there, this was really fun.) Amish country and a wonderful cheese factory! We stayed there while checking out the University of Iowa. Hotel room was clean enough, beds were nice and firm. Bathroom and hotel in general is in need of updating. The inn is family run and so they seem to be trying. But the whole place reeks of cigarette smoke; 7 out of 8 times that I passed the front desk, there was nobody there manning it -- just a phone with a number if you need somebody. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and the bedroom area had a mini fridge and microwave. The bedrooms also did not seem terribly outdated. I expected alot more from this hotel. My room did not have a hair blow dryer or an iron. The bed was very uncomfortable! The room doors were the old fashioned wood with regular door key locks. The continental breakfast consisted of a medium size plate of several slices of bread, a couple bagels and several mini donuts... this was for everyone to share! […] The only drink availabe was coffee, no juice. Although there was a nice big room for dining, they did not set up in there. Breakfast was set up in the hallway near the check - in desk, on a little counter. Upon check-in the gentleman at the desk told me he did not know how to "do it" and had to call his sister-in-law. I would not suggest this hotel! Read more

The Presidential Inn is a quaint little motel near the Herbert Hoover historical site. If you just need someplace to sleep for a few hours, it's cheap and it's nice and quiet. They definitely do everything they can to keep their costs down and pass the savings onto their customers. The sheets on the bed were well worn, but okay otherwise. I was happy […] that my room had a mini fridge and microwave, as well as free WiFi with decent performance. Breakfast consisted of toast & jelly, chocolate Donettes, and coffee. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing. The one thing that really bugged me was that the bath towel smelled like cigarette smoke. Otherwise it seemed well-maintained and clean for an older motel, and it was about $40 cheaper than any other hotel within my safe driving range that night since I was getting pretty tired. If you do stay here and haven't been to the Herbert Hoover historical site, make sure you go into town and spend at least a good 3-4 hours there. They have a lot of areas you can look at for free, including a free tour featuring President Hoover's humble childhood home. Read more

The ice machine was broken and the halls smelled smokey though my non-smoking room was fine. Owners were very friendly and accomodating. No iron or blow dryers but did have fridge and microwave. Great location near interstate, gas, and food. Great rates. I'll plan to stay there next time I need low cost, servicable accomodations.

This was the only hotel in town, and we should have booked elsewhere. The room was clean enough, but the bathroom was grungy and offered poor towels. The security was null and felt a bit unsafe. The "continental breakfast" was four slices of bread in a tupperware container and some dried out fruit loops. Wouldn't stay there again.

Location of motel was not so bad. the room it's self was okay. The refrigiator did not work. There was no coffee maker in room. Also there was no ice machine. Told it was broken, ha ha. No lounge or eating place,closed.

There was one girl working and she was doing everything from house keeping, registration and what food there was, I am sure she was putting that out also. There was supposed to be a continental breakfast, they did not say that it did not start until 8:30am and consisted of 1 average household pot of coffee with just powdered creamer and regular sugar. […] A box of corn flakes, bread and english muffins (unfortunately the toaster did not toast.) I'm sure there had to be milk and I did see someone with a glass of orange juice. It was storming and we were on motorcycles so we could not leave until the storm was over. At least we had shelter. It was an older hotel, not too far from town. It was clean but the free breakfast was cereal, toast and coffee, so we skipped it and went to McDonalds across the street. We just needed a room for the night, so we were happy it was clean and the beds were comfortable.

The staff was very understanding. I had driven part of the night to get my father to Iowa City hospital for a procedure that was scheduled at 11:00AM, he was going to be in surgery and recovery for at least 2 hours so I decided to possibly check into my room. The staff not only allowed me to check in earlier that the normal 3:00 check in time, but they […] also told me to just call if I needed to stay a little past the 11:00 check out time. The best part was later that night in the lounge on site I had a great pizza and the bartender let me watch one of my favorite programs while I was enjoying my drink. Very clean, quiet and well kept property. Staff was friendly, pleasant and assisting....Will make sure any time I return to Iowa City for my fathers upcoming procedures I will be staying at this hotel! Read more

An awful motel in such a remote location that I was afraid ro get out of my car. The couple running it obviously ate curry morning, noon and night because you could smell it before opening the front door. The towels used to be white, but are now a lovely shade of grey. Bed bugs were strongly suspected. Not surprised to find out from a local convenience […] store owner that the motel was being operated without a housekeeping staff. We needed a place to stay the night before the U of Iowa graduation. This was the closest place for a normal price. Hotel is basic, a well-maintained older building.
