"Excellent hotel for the price"
The beds were sort of hard and uncomfortable but otherwise, everything was great. The hotel staff was polite and courteous, very accommodating. I'd highly recommend this hotel and will probably stay here again in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel near Olympic stadium. Disappointed that free Wifi was so slow it was unusableGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great place to stay"
Great location, good staff. The room could have used more lights. It was really dark in there once the sun went down. It was very close to the metro, especially if you cut through the parking lot of the Biodome.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel for a bunch of Bachelors"
The stay overall was satisfying. We were a party of 8 for a bachelor party and we booked 3 rooms. We split the rooms 3,3, and 2. We ordered one roll-a-way bed for one of the rooms. They cost $10 per night. The roll-away bed was small, but it got the job done. The main reason I chose this hotel was for the free parking and the closest to the city (at […] a reasonable price) St. Catherine Street and Crescent Street, where all the main attractions are, is about 5 miles away. "Overall a great hotel--wifi terrible"
At first we were given a standard room, so we had to ask for a change of rooms. The folks were very nice and apologetic about it. We had two complaints. One, the wifi was unusable unless you sat in the lobby. I would like to use the wifi in the room. Two, the cardio equipment in the gym was old and scary to use--we were afraid it would break apart as […] we were using it. But we made up for it by walking a lot. Overall we were very happy with the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was fine ... but the incredibly -- incredibly -- slow service and long wait in line at check-in was totally unacceptable. Two guys to handle check-ins and other issues was horrible. Everyone in line was totally upset.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location near Olympic Park"
The location of the hotel was good. My only complaint would be that the bed was very comfortable. I do have an expensive mattress at come in comparison though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is decent! Internet is slow. Average hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stay was OK."
There are no food vending machines in the hotel. If you stay up late and want something to eat, you have to go out. One room, near the pool, stunk of chlorine or something similar. Restaurant food is good and portions large, but expensive.Genuine Expedia guest review
"I had a good time there"
I think I had a good experience for the price I paid. I didn't have to pay to park my car, which is great, I loved their gym, sauna and swimming pool. The restaurant there is good but a little bit overpriced in my opinion. The hotel is well located. It has restaurants, a very nice park, metro station, all close by. Regarding the room itself, my only […] complaint goes to the bed size (maybe it was only in my room). I would suggest to have king sizes. I loved how firm the bed was there though (usually hotel beds are way too soft for my back). Overall it was a positive experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not quite as advertised"
The hotel's blurb is extremely misleading : "Situated in the city center" -- No, not really. you need to take the subway quite a ways out and it probably 1/3 of a mile from the subway stop to the hotel. The TV was great for 1980. Many of the room amenities listed on the web page are not there either -- Pillowtop matress, separate sitting area, ... This […] is just a basic 2* hotel. "Worth staying at again!"
The hotel staff was very friendly! My boyfriend and I were recently there for the Grand Prix and found the location made it very easy to travel. The hotel is a short walk to the metro and the metro stops are so short that you are in the center of town before you know it! We actually got a free upgrade when we checked in, which made the stay even sweeter! […] One concern I would mention is some of the appliances and furniture are outdated and slightly worn/stained. It wasn't a deal-breaker for me, though. I would also mention the air was not very strong in our room, so it was a bit warm, and the others we came with said their room was a bit mildewy. Again, not a deal-breaker, though. If I make it to Montreal again I would definitely consider staying at this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"when its priced low, dont go for it"
Hotel is situated in a great location, right next to the Olympic tower. The good stuff ends there. Overall, it feels cheap. Rooms are tiny and the service is too slow.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
No restaurant onsite was inconvenient. Old, musty or moldy smell in the rooms made me cut my stay and move to another hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It is time for the hotel to have a make over! We had to wait in a short line for a lengthy time both checking in and out. The rooms were on the smaller side and quite drab. The hot tub wasn't working and I specifically asked when making the reservations as we were there for New Years Eve. The bathrooms were tiny and not well planned out. "Great Hotel, Nice Location"
Overall, my friends and I enjoyed our stay at the Universel Hotel. I thought that the location was great, about 3 miles from all the downtown action. Driving, it is a straight shot down Rue Sherbrooke to get downtown, and the Metro is walking distance. The Hotel staff were young and fairly helpful. One constructive critism I have is that breakfast […] was not included in our stay, and the in-house restaurant's breakfast was a little pricey. It would have been nice to have a cheaper option or buffet style breakfast option. All things considererd, this hotel made my trip to Montreal more enjoyable and I would definitely recommend Hotel Universel to anyone visiting Montreal. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not ready for 5 people"
We had booked a room for 5 people but when we arrived were told the room only had 2 double beds. We asked for a cot and were told that would be extra, however they did waive the charge when we pressed a little. There were not enough towels for 5 and we had to ask to more, which arrived reasonably quickly. The location of this hotel is fantastic if you […] are visiting the Olympic Stadium complex, is a bit far from downtown but the walk to the metro is not too bad, about 10 minutes. "Comfortable and well located!"
Just spent three night at this hotel with three kids. All went well. Super location. Short walks or cab rides to most places. Great beds and baths at the end of busy fun days.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Place to Visit"
Really nice people, you have to look for best places to eat and visit on line , it will save you a lot of walking and time. Mt Royal, Old Montreal , Rue Sherbroook road, and underground city ( One Of the Biggest Mall i ever seen ) is recommended places to check out.Genuine Expedia guest review

"What could have been...."
All was great, except terribly disappointed at fact that I had no internet because of .........no one ever figured it out...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I went directly to the hotel's website to reserve a room. When I called back 2 days later to change the reservation, I was told I could not because I had apparently been transferred to Hotels.com website and the room was pre-paid. If there was any indication that I was pre-paying a room rather than making a routine reservation at Hotels.com, it wasn't […] clear from the website. I have been travelling frequently on business for over 25 years. No manager or supervisor 'up the chain' at the hotel would take my complaint. I made alternate arrangements rather than stay at a hotel where I was so shabbily treated. I will never stay again at the Universel and I will not ever book a room through Hotels.com. "Enjoyed my trip to Montreal"
The hotel was nice. Not extravagant but nice. Room was clean and what I had expected from the pictures shown on the website. It was a little pricey and I don't feel I got my monies worth as I would have expected a little more service for what I paid. The staff did greet us upon arrival and was able to speak to me in English but as far as directions […] and courtesy I would say they lacked severely. Did not tell me how to get to my room or where I could find things in the hotel ect. I had to ask "where do we go" they pointed and said the elevator is there. Did not get directions to my room or anything. It was in a great location for what we had planned and it did have free parking and wifi. Overall it was a nice place to stay and if we weren't looking for anything different we would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect for what we needed."
We needed a place conveniently located in the upper east end of Montreal. The location was good, parking convenient and the hotel clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very happy with the hotel; this was our first time there. Everything was clean and service at the front desk was very good. We were especially appreciative of the great service we received at the restaurant Le toit Rouge at the hotel. We had a group of 14 for a wedding dinner and we were very well taken care of. Thanks so much to Dimitri and staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Two pools both closed."
Outdoor pool was closed for the season and they were doing maintenance on the indoor pool. Seems like poor planning when maintenance could have been done when the outdoor poor was still open. Breakfast buffet cost $12 even for hotel guest. Conference rooms were nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for a short stay"
The location was excellent - right across the street from Olympic Stadium and close to many restaurants and subway station. The front desk staff were helpful. The pool was a good size and was heated. The rooms were dated but clean. The wifi actually worked well. Only disappointment was the beds were very hard and it was noisy - could hear people in […] hallways all night talking and slamming doors. Would recommend for a short stay. "Perfect for visit Biôdome/botanicalgarden/planeta."
Beds and armchairs comfortable, but ventilation of the room extremely noisy, it was hard to fall asleep, and you don't really feel like getting up to complain in the middle of the night! Room and bathroom perfectly clean, but the outdoor pool, which by the way was nicely warmed, was not really clean enough that day, not too bad, but not too great either. […] Really unpleasant smell in the room in the morning, coming from ventilation and from products used to do the annual maintenance of the indoor pool. we later noticed that this smell was everywhere in the hotel. very convenient shuttle service to and from the attractions close by (biôdome, botanical garden, etc) save on crazy parking rates! Overall, not perfect, but fair. Know that they will ask for a 150 $ refundable deposit. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beatiful location walking distance to botanical"
Hotel beds were not comfortable , although i had a nice room it opened up to the outdoor pool so you could site outside and get fresh hair. But for the price i payeds it was disapointing. "Great location, clean and comfortable room"
My wife and I don't typically spend too much time in hotel rooms, preferring to get out and take advantage of the time in different cities and seeing what they have to offer. That being said, it's always nice to get a room which feels like your own space to unwind and get a good night's rest. We enjoyed our stay at the Universel Montreal. We picked […] it due to its great proximity to the BioDome which was our primary visit location. It was a very easy and pleasant walk from the hotel to there and also the same short trip to the nearest Metro station (Viau). Great location and way to allow you to get in and around the city without worrying about parking, etc. although in/out privileges for the parking give you the flexibility when you need it. The $10 buffet breakfast is good enough to set you up for the day, and you also have the option of going A La Carte if nothing takes your fancy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. If we come back to Montreal for another trip I'd certainly be happy to stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel was located right across the Olympic Stadium and close to many attractions. It is a very convenient location and easy to find hotel. Staff are nice and overall a pleasant stay. Our room was at the first floor and opened to the outdoor pool and maybe that's why it had a little dampness odour but nothing that could keep us from going back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel was not that clean (blood stains on the curtains). No ice machine on my floor, no ice bucket, pool closed very early, was led to believe breakfast was included but they would not give it to me in the morning. Walls very thin. Bed was very hard. The only redeeming quality was free parking really. No real complaints about the service itself in the […] hotel, but the restaurant seemed understaffed and unorganized. Unlikely to return. "Need some work..."
Whe check in last week. The front of the hotel looks nice, the front desk was pretty nice too. Whe got our room at time. When whe got into our room, the wash room was smelling very bad and the carpet was not clean at all. The hotel location is pretty good, but the rooms need definitively some renovations. Whe got to the pool, it was very bad. They were […] no towel so whe asked at the front desk if whe could have some and they answered that they would bring some. It took 45 minutes before whe got our towels. The interior pool/spa was closed for renovations so whe had to go outside. The pool was full of hair and it was very not clean. I don't recommend at all this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"clean but quite small"
Our room was clean but quite small & the beds were very hard, which made it difficult to sleep. Free parking & shuttle service to nearby attractions was very convenient.
