"Not 4 Star"
I would not give this hotel 4 stars. Could use some renovating and upgrades. TV's should be replaced, be good if you didn't have to get out of bed to work the remote! Carpet had a big melted area from an iron, when we used the bathroom amenities on day one they were not replaced. The bed was very comfortable, clean sheets and comforter. Free parking […] is a bonus, long walk to the metro though. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good for a night"
Lobby was impressive. Room was functional. Carpet was worn and stained. Staff seemed super nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Botanical Garden visit"
Enjoyed our stay and the Botanical Garden, to which it's a short drive or not too long of a walk. Lots of pedestrians due to a sporting event at the nearby stadium that was just finishing as we arrived. The hotel restaurant food was ok but not great. Nice view from our 7th floor room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel to stay"
I enjoyed so much the bed and room. It is modern and comfort....Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location and affordable"
Right next to the Olympic park, Biodome and Botanical Gardens. The lobby, restraunt and pool are really good. Rooms are nothing fancy but clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Not bad hotel. Look a little bit old and need refurbish.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel needs some upgrading. Restaurant in hotel is very limited and pricey for what they offer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel for the price"
The beds were sort of hard and uncomfortable but otherwise, everything was great. The hotel staff was polite and courteous, very accommodating. I'd highly recommend this hotel and will probably stay here again in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel near Olympic stadium. Disappointed that free Wifi was so slow it was unusableGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great place to stay"
Great location, good staff. The room could have used more lights. It was really dark in there once the sun went down. It was very close to the metro, especially if you cut through the parking lot of the Biodome.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel for a bunch of Bachelors"
The stay overall was satisfying. We were a party of 8 for a bachelor party and we booked 3 rooms. We split the rooms 3,3, and 2. We ordered one roll-a-way bed for one of the rooms. They cost $10 per night. The roll-away bed was small, but it got the job done. The main reason I chose this hotel was for the free parking and the closest to the city (at […] a reasonable price) St. Catherine Street and Crescent Street, where all the main attractions are, is about 5 miles away. "Overall a great hotel--wifi terrible"
At first we were given a standard room, so we had to ask for a change of rooms. The folks were very nice and apologetic about it. We had two complaints. One, the wifi was unusable unless you sat in the lobby. I would like to use the wifi in the room. Two, the cardio equipment in the gym was old and scary to use--we were afraid it would break apart as […] we were using it. But we made up for it by walking a lot. Overall we were very happy with the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was fine ... but the incredibly -- incredibly -- slow service and long wait in line at check-in was totally unacceptable. Two guys to handle check-ins and other issues was horrible. Everyone in line was totally upset.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location near Olympic Park"
The location of the hotel was good. My only complaint would be that the bed was very comfortable. I do have an expensive mattress at come in comparison though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is decent! Internet is slow. Average hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stay was OK."
There are no food vending machines in the hotel. If you stay up late and want something to eat, you have to go out. One room, near the pool, stunk of chlorine or something similar. Restaurant food is good and portions large, but expensive.Genuine Expedia guest review
"I had a good time there"
I think I had a good experience for the price I paid. I didn't have to pay to park my car, which is great, I loved their gym, sauna and swimming pool. The restaurant there is good but a little bit overpriced in my opinion. The hotel is well located. It has restaurants, a very nice park, metro station, all close by. Regarding the room itself, my only […] complaint goes to the bed size (maybe it was only in my room). I would suggest to have king sizes. I loved how firm the bed was there though (usually hotel beds are way too soft for my back). Overall it was a positive experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not quite as advertised"
The hotel's blurb is extremely misleading : "Situated in the city center" -- No, not really. you need to take the subway quite a ways out and it probably 1/3 of a mile from the subway stop to the hotel. The TV was great for 1980. Many of the room amenities listed on the web page are not there either -- Pillowtop matress, separate sitting area, ... This […] is just a basic 2* hotel. "Worth staying at again!"
The hotel staff was very friendly! My boyfriend and I were recently there for the Grand Prix and found the location made it very easy to travel. The hotel is a short walk to the metro and the metro stops are so short that you are in the center of town before you know it! We actually got a free upgrade when we checked in, which made the stay even sweeter! […] One concern I would mention is some of the appliances and furniture are outdated and slightly worn/stained. It wasn't a deal-breaker for me, though. I would also mention the air was not very strong in our room, so it was a bit warm, and the others we came with said their room was a bit mildewy. Again, not a deal-breaker, though. If I make it to Montreal again I would definitely consider staying at this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"when its priced low, dont go for it"
Hotel is situated in a great location, right next to the Olympic tower. The good stuff ends there. Overall, it feels cheap. Rooms are tiny and the service is too slow.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
No restaurant onsite was inconvenient. Old, musty or moldy smell in the rooms made me cut my stay and move to another hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It is time for the hotel to have a make over! We had to wait in a short line for a lengthy time both checking in and out. The rooms were on the smaller side and quite drab. The hot tub wasn't working and I specifically asked when making the reservations as we were there for New Years Eve. The bathrooms were tiny and not well planned out. "Great Hotel, Nice Location"
Overall, my friends and I enjoyed our stay at the Universel Hotel. I thought that the location was great, about 3 miles from all the downtown action. Driving, it is a straight shot down Rue Sherbrooke to get downtown, and the Metro is walking distance. The Hotel staff were young and fairly helpful. One constructive critism I have is that breakfast […] was not included in our stay, and the in-house restaurant's breakfast was a little pricey. It would have been nice to have a cheaper option or buffet style breakfast option. All things considererd, this hotel made my trip to Montreal more enjoyable and I would definitely recommend Hotel Universel to anyone visiting Montreal. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not ready for 5 people"
We had booked a room for 5 people but when we arrived were told the room only had 2 double beds. We asked for a cot and were told that would be extra, however they did waive the charge when we pressed a little. There were not enough towels for 5 and we had to ask to more, which arrived reasonably quickly. The location of this hotel is fantastic if you […] are visiting the Olympic Stadium complex, is a bit far from downtown but the walk to the metro is not too bad, about 10 minutes. "Basic, Dated Hotel, Fast WiFi"
This hotel is located on Sherbrooke Street, near the Metro stops of Viau and Assumption (about a 13 minute walk away) in an otherwise quiet area of Montreal. Its very near the Biodrome if you want to go there but a ticket for the metro is practically a must to visit the city as it is quite a distance away if you were to walk. The hotel itself looks […] quite dated, but clean and functional. The WiFi in the rooms is really good (11mbps) so great for uploading pictures or having a video call. "the staffs r all kind"
we loved the inside pool and th staffs r really kind!!! thank u!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
More of a 2 to a 2.5 star hotel. OK to stay at if your business is in that general area. Not a good idea if business is in Montreal city center or to the West of Montreal as the roads and traffic are a major issue.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
not so perfect, room situated at ground floor, tv gloomy, notice from desk and no improve, sound shelter is not good, too noisy especially during the stay of travel team/family with naughty kids or teenagers, front desk staffs not perfect & fluent in English, traffic in Montreal is pretty crazy and busy, overall speaking - very bad experience, this […] is the first time and this is also the last time visiting Montreal Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"NIce hotel close to stadium."
Room was clean. Staff very nice. Only thing worth mentioning is towel had a 6 inch tear in it. I brought it to the front desk and got free breakfast to compensate. I must say it was not the full buffet breakfast, we only had toast as we were joining family at sugar bush so we only had 2 orders of toast with coffee for breakfast. I was very satisfied […] with response at front desk and relatively small compensation but totally in line with the trouble I was caused. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Worst experience ever!"
We arrived a couple hours early trying to check in, was told by the asian staff that you can only check in at three and there's no room available before that time. this was obviously ridiculous as it's not possible that all rooms become available at the same time, unless you have 100 cleaners cleaning all the rooms at the same time at the same rate […] and all finish at 3pm. The next morning after we checked in there were ppl knocking at our door trying to clean the room, it was like 9:30am. This hotel really should learn how to provide convenience to customers. The most disturbing thing was that there were many French speaking ppl (around 30) on our floor, they knew each other and spent most of their time in the hall way. Their room doors were left open. You could hear them talking right outside your room from noon to like 4:00am. You don't want to spend 130 dollars a night to share the same "room" with a bunch of inconsiderate people that wouldnt give you a quiet space to sleep even past mid night. We Called front desk they agreed to send someone to check it out, but nothing changed. TVset was not working either, but since there's wifi it wasnt a big problem. "Great location for Scotties Tournament of Hearts."
Hotel is easy to get to, & from the train station via the subway. Location was perfect for attending the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, as the Maurice Richard Arena is only a block away. "Close to Olympic Park"
We choose this hotel as it was close to the Women's National Curling championship. The hotel's website indicated all rooms had been renovated but the first one we were given had not been renovated. We went to the front desk and were told that some rooms had not be updated and if we wanted a renovated room it would cost either $10 or $20 per night depending […] on the quality of the upgrade. We took the $10 upgrade. The change was handled professionally but the reservation was done to some extent on the website content, which proved to be incorrect. A minor cost increase that was not anticipated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
