"Times Square Nugget"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed for a week and were glad to find a hotel right in the heart of Times Square. The service was definitely top notch! The front desk was courteous and the concierge was very helpful, recommending great shows and restaurants. Our room was nice. It could've been a little larger. But the bathroom was a good size and the size of the TV's and the fact that they played HD was a bonus. Also, the bed was quite comfortable. The cleaning staff did a fine job of keeping up the room. I'll definitely recommend this hotel to others.
"Consistency. You can depend on it."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Finding a "GOOD THING" these days can get harder and harder. For this reason when you come across a 'good thing" it is priceless. One of the most recent "good things " that I have come across is the PARAMOUNT hotel in Times Square. The first thing that I leave the hotel impressed by is the professionalism and commitment that is demonstrated by the staff. Starting with the front desk where I was checked in by Catherine and continuing until the driver which I received at the hotel hands me my luggage at the airport. Catherine followed the details of my visit until the moment I checked out. The only dislike that I had which eventually i got over was the view of the alley where the boiler or some loud machine was placed. I know that from now on I will request a room that faces anywhere but there. If you are going to New York and plan on taking in Broadway there could not be a more perfect location. I love this hotel so much I find myself wanting to travel to NYC more. I cannot wait until my next visit to the PARAMOUNT which I hope will be in the next few weeks.

We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.
""Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.
"Nice hotel in the theatre district"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Very nice hotel in the theatre district. Friendly and helpful staff. Basic room accomodations but very clean. Would recommend.

Let the West Coast have Hollywood; Broadway’s lights are just as bright, and many screen actors come to the Great White Way to gain acting credibility. Area attractions include Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Resplendent St. Patrick’s Cathedral takes up a block at Fifth and 50th. Once seedy, Times Square now hosts ABC, MTV, and NASDAQ.

I totally recomend the St James Hotel... is half block from times square if you want to be in the heart of manhattan at an affordable price this is the place to stay!
THIS HOTEL IS ALL ABOUT LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.THE ROOM DID NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. IT DID NOT HAVE AN ICE MACHINE. YOU HAD TO LEAVE YOUR KEY AT THE FRONT DESK WHEN LEAVING AND RETURNING TO THE HOTEL. WHEN PICKING UP THE KEY ANYONE NEAR THE FRONT DESK HEARD YOUR NAME AND ROOM NUMBER. THE DOOR DID NOT HAVE A CHAIN. OTHERWISE IT WAS CLEAN, BUT […] SMALL. Read more
"Great Location, Good Price, Cute Place"
I enjoyed my overnight stay and was able to walk to just about everything on my to do list - broadway, good food & shopping. I honestly liked the ambiance but I'm not a new & shiny kind of girl. This place has character and I loved it. It's NOT fancy so if you want that go somewhere else. It is very nice, clean, relatively quiet and in a perfect location […] if you want to get out and see the city. I'll be back. Read more
I could not believe the condition of the room. I have stayed at Motels in the past that is more update. The furniture, television, carpet and furniture was so outdated. Even the Radiators in the room looks like what was in my Grandmother's old house. My room could use a good paint job as well as a safe in the room like modern hotels.I stayed at the […] Holiday inn Express which was more updated than this hotel. Read more
"If you want Times Square, this is the hotel"
The lobby of the hotel is a little tired. My room was perfectly fine, clean and comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had wireless in my room based on reviews I had read. All in all, a good value.

"Hotel st James, Times Sq NYC"
Spacious room in good location BUT no drapes on the large windows just translucent miniblinds leaving the room light at night AND heavy, long term construction on the 45st side (rooms X02 thru X05). Note X = floor number. Other rooms may also be noisey in the morning cement trucks, hammering, heavy equiptment, etc.

"Hotel St. James in NYC"
I stayed at the Hotel St. James in April with my best friend to celebrate her 50th birthday. When we first checked in we were given rooms on the 12th floor and were told nicer rooms would be available the next day and we could switch. I would have been fine with the 12th floor, but my window did not close/lock properly, and there was a fire escape out […] the window. We did move to the 8th floor the next day, nicer and larger rooms. My room was in the back of the hotel and had little, if any warm water for showers. My friends room faced 45th street and she had plenty of hot water but her internet access was not as good as mine. The hotel staff are very friendly and accomadating and the hotel is in an excellent location. There was no air conditioning in any of the 4 rooms that we saw, which could be a factor in the warmer months. Also, there was no way to control the room temperature (radiator heat), but we never felt our rooms were cold. I would stay here again but it would depend on the time of year. I would also request a room toward the street, noiser no doubt but hot water in the shower would make up for it. I know they are renovating rooms so maybe they will have that all worked out soon. "Great Location....Sparse Room"
Hot water was a scarcity and it was necessary to run the water for almost 15 minutes (a waste) in order to get some that was hot. Our room was on the 6th floor and the street noise all night was very loud. There was no ice available (at least on our floor). The room and sheets were very clean. Leaving your key at the desk is strange, but required. Good […] wi-fi for free in the room. Nice staff, tried to be helpful. Great little cafe open 24/7 right next door..... so lack of coffee machine wasn't too miserable. The price is reasonable.... but I'd be reluctant to recommend it unless people understand what they are getting (or not getting). The hot water problem should be easy to solve - and would pay for itself in water bills. Read more
The entrance and loby of this hotel are very nice. The rooms are like Motel 6-bear minimum, except at Motel 6 I think the plumbing works...
"Not recommended"
This hotel was sad-as in run down, poorly maintained and quite dirty. The only bright spot was the pleasantness of the front desk staff. But that's just not enough for me. It was not worth the few dollars saved and next time I will cut corners on something else, but not the hotel.
"St. James Hotel in New York City"
The St. James Hotel in Times Square is a very nice place to stay if you're looking for something considerably more affordable than surrounding accommodations. There are no bells and whistles, however, so if you plan to spend most of your time out touring the city, this is a very good choice for you. If you're wanting to spend more time indoors enjoying […] all the amenities, you're gonna get bored. It is a very clean place and the beds are very comfortable. We do highly recommend it. Read more
"Great Hotel"
Great Hotel. Nice firm bed. In NY to see shows and eat, walk around. Get location In Times Square. Could get everywhere we needed to be by foot or just a short subway ride. Great deli and restaurant right next door.
"Convienent, but there are issues"
Hotel St. James is a very nice hotel with a friendly staff, conveniently located and it appears to be well maintained. However, it is mostly just a place to sleep. Although they advertise WiFi, don't expect to have anything usable. The TV was very small and appeared to be an afterthought. There was no pen and paper common with a hotel room (yea, a small […] thing, but try to write something down when nothing exists). The front desk staff was very friendly and I can tell they were used to dealing with complaints about the WiFi. The rooms were spacious, especially for a times square hotel. If you don't care about WiFi and amenities, then go for it. If you depend on a connection, stay away. Read more

Room was very small. It was very hot in the room. iit had an old fashion radiator that banged all night long.Great location. Close to everything.
"St. James Hotel"
Hotel had an excellent location, however the decor was dated and the window mini blinds didn't cover the entire window. Also the bathroom window didn't lock and this made me nervous as I was traveling alone eventhough the room was on the 11th floor. The room was very clean, however the walls were thin and I could hear my neighbor's tv and alarm that […] he/she hit snooze on 7 times in the early morning which didn't make it a great way to wake up. Atleast my shower was warm in the am. Read more
"Excellent hotel throughout"
When i had booked this hotel the reveiws on trip advisor give it 3-4 out of 5, some where good some not so good, you are always apprehensive until you actually see it for your own eyes, there where no surprises at all, loved every thing about the hotel. I would recomemend it to anyone.
"Great location and great price"
OK, it is not The Plaza. If you want the Plaza, book a room at The Plaza...and pay 10 times as much. Hotel St. James has it's own kind of charm. Yes, our room looked like it has not been vacuumed in a while, but the bathroom was spotless. Yes, the furniture in the room looks like it was taken out of my 1970's dorm, but they do give you extra pillows […] and blankets. I wish I had gotten the name of the gentleman who checked us in, and was there most week days to give us the key to our room, but you could not have had a more friendly, gregarious person. He works days during the week. I have stayed here 4 times before and keep coming back because of the price and location, and best of all we never caught any "critters" from there, unlike some other fancier places. Who stays in their room while in NYC anyway? BTW...my favorite restaurant in NYC, Bond 45, is across the street. Read more

"Hotel St. James, NYC"
Very nice hotel, obviously very old but kept up well and renovated. Elevators could use some work, not very reliable and very very slow. Staff were helpful and courteous.
"Hotel St. James in Times Square"
Excellent hotel with excellent location. Like it and would come back anytime
"Hotel Saint James"
This hotel was right in Time Square. What a perfect location. The staff was very friendly and the room was spacious and very clean. Will be coming back!!!
"Solid, No Frills in Midtown"
The Hotel St. James' best features are the location and the price. It's basically a no frills, basic hotel. The room was fine; small, but comfy and clean. Took a while for the water in the shower to get hot. I'd recommend bringing a bar of soap, as the ones provided were microscopic. The staff was friendly enough. No bar or restaurant in the hotel, […] but only 1,000,000 or so places to eat and drink in Midtown/Times Square, so that's no big deal. I'd go back because the price was right for an acceptable hotel in a great location. Read more
Great location. Clean room. Friendly service. Only lukewarm water in shower. Overall, I would go to the hotel st.james again!
"St James Hotel"
We had to make a late check in, thus the person Who attended us at the reception was not very friendly, and had no one to help us with the bag. At least, on the other days, some attendants were more pleasant. The location is fantastic, extremely closed by Times Square, but the hotel itself has no attractions at all. But it was clean and very well located, […] is worth what we pay. I recommend the hotel, but I still believe that the staff should be trained in order to better attend their customers. Read more
"Short Stay"
I decided to spend the night in NYC and took this room at the last minute. The Hotel was older and the room was worn. The carpet was frayed at the edges and spotted. The bed was comfortable enough and the flat screen TV was the only modern convenience in the room. The room doors used keys and you had to retun the key to the front desk every time you […] left the hotel. The hotel was conveniently located but I don't think it was worth the money spent. Read more

"Cleanliness counts"
I stayed at the St. James primarily because another review said the hotel was clean. Considering that most of the time the room is used is sleep time, I was not interested in amenities such as pools, etc. The St. James is a basic hotel. Nothing fancy, but the other review was right on, my room and the lobby were clean, the shower worked nicely, and […] the bed was comfortable. Those are my priorities and all were satisfied. "Great Location"
this hotel is perfect for tourists who want to be close to all the action of Time's Square....so central to everything. We had a room towards the back of the hotel and it was very quiet despite all the partying on the streets. Very friendly staff.
"Hotel St. James - you get what you pay for"
If you want a nice sized room - this is not for you. Before booking, I read the reviews that stated room was small. And boy howdy is it. But if all you want is a place to lay your head at night and get up in the morning and go at it again, this will work. Opened the windows to cool the room as there is no AC. No breeze either as our room faced a small […] alley and surrounded by more brick. And lastly - a hot shower is not available. At best, the water gets luke warm. Just deal with it. Best location for the$$$$$$$$$$. Updated bathroom. Clean. More old European style hall and elevator but certainly adequate. Cozy room. Walk to most theatres. Safe neighborhood.

"St James in NYC"
Great location - 1 block from Times Square. Don't expect any amenities or a great room. Stay here though if you just need a place to sleep and aren't going to be in the hotel much. It's loud at night but that's too be expected with the location. Overall we were very pleased but also knew what to expect.

"Hotel St. James"
Nice people, older hotel, the room had no ventilation - awfully warm - hard to sleep, and then in AM - no hot water. Great location.
"Great location"
1 block from times sq., great location, Hotel is older, but if you only need a place to sleep this a great spot for the price.
If you are looking foe somewhere cheap to stay then it does the trick. Not much of anything in the hotel and the rooms are very small. The location is great but that's about all. They should really look into updating this hotel a bit. I will not stay there ever again.
"Hotel St. James"
Very well located in the heart of NYC. A nice sized room. Comfortable and clean. No frills, but comfortable. The windows are not double pane, therefore the street noise was a bit bothersome from our second floor room. Ear plugs helped for the second night! Would stay here again.
"Awesome location"
The room was small, but had a nice bed and great flatscreen TV. The bathroom was nothing fancy, but very clean. The staff was nice. I would recommend this hotel for travelers that need a place near times square (at the end of the block from this hotel). It is in a great location and is the cheapest hotel around. I had a single bed room (very small). […] I don't think I would take my kids to this hotel though - it just didn't seem friendly to children for some reason. Read more
"Can't wait to visit again!"
Loved staying at Hotel St. James. Would definitely return and recommend to friends. Location is awesome! Affordable places to eat near by. Friendly staff. Very comfortable bed. Room was a bit warm, but we opened the window. Free wi-fi. Excellent value! Caution- if you order a shuttle from the desk in the lobby, you should be aware that it's not one […] of the "usual" shuttles...it's a large bus, and it cost more. However, the driver was pretty amazing and knew all the backroads routes to get around freeway traffic and get us to the airport on time. I was impressed. So, the few dollars more might have been worth it in time saved... Read more
"Great Location"
Basic OK hotel, perfect location for going to the theater., friendly staff, clean. A fabulous deli 2 doors down and several Irish pubs on he block
"A great option if you don't need/expect luxury"
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here during a roughly 1-week stay. I was worried for a moment after finding some hair in the bedding when I first went into the room, but that turned out to be one of very few negatives (the others were the noise during several nights from a nearby construction site as well as a noisy radiator) of […] the stay and I assume you could do a lot worse in NYC at this price point. The staff were attentive and nice. The hotel felt safe. Excellent location. The bed was comfortable. The temperature of the water in the shower was somewhat unpredictable, but never colder than lukewarm. There are lockers downstairs to store personal items and a computer and printer to print boarding passes (logging on cost me $2). I would recommend this hotel to budget-minded travelers and would definitely stay here again under circumstances similar to this past trip. Read more
"great location for tourists"
If you want the bright lights and exciting tourist experience, this is the hotel for you. It's not bad if you want to see the other parts of the city as well, since train access is convenient. The location is excellent and the price is right. We were put in a tiny room with a furnace that wouldn't quit -- it was like a sauna! I called the front desk […] and they immediately showed us a different room that was much bigger and nicer and cooler. We agreed that it was a perfect solution and I was so grateful our complaint was taken seriously. Read more
"LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION"
Some would say hotel was rundown, but it has its own charm. Shabby furniture but large rooms with no extra service. The location couldn't be better for the price. People looking for room service or other amenities would be disappointed.
"St. James Hotel"
Had maintenance going on which was no problem at all. It was an older hotel with a great location to Times Square. The price was right and was a great fit for what was looking for.
"Great location!"
The St. James is in the heart of NY's Theatre district. So many great sites are in walking distance! So if you want an affordable hotel in an awesome location this is your place but if you're one to stay in your room and not go anywhere this is not the hotel for you. Rooms were clean but small. Hotel has no ammenities except free wifi but what do you […] need with so much else to see? Read more
