I was there fun. I loved the room and how close I was to time square for the great that I paid. I with to come back to the hotel in. Can I get a great deal this time for 4 large roomsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel, great location"
We've stayed at this hotel before and really like it for its great location - one block off Times Square with great access to subways, restaurants, etc. It is an older hotel and is in decent condition. Rooms are clean, and maid service is very good. Elevators are slow and one is small. We had two rooms with 4 adults in each room. The rooms were relatively […] spacious compared to the rooms for two we've had before. Clean, safe hotel in ideal location for a reasonable rate. Just what we like since we spend minimal time in the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice stay"
The place has a lot of old New York character. It was clean, nice, and the staff was very friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location is Everything. Value is Great"
The Saint James is perfectly located in Manhattan near Times Square and the Broadway play district. the bathroom was recently remodeled in our room and in perfect condition. Queen size bed was comfortable. Room heat is by hotwater radiator and they cycle it on and off so as to not make in uncomfortably warm. You can turn it on and off if you wish. We […] visited in mid December and temperatures were in the 40s but room was always quite comfortable temperature wise. There is no air-conditioner so not so sure about hot summer months here. No restaurant or bar facilities or coffee maker in the room. Not a problem as coffee shop only 40 feet away from hotel entrance and many Irish Pubs within a 100 yards of the entrance as well. Great restaurants all withing walking distance. Location is the strong selling point of this hotel. Price is one of the best in Manhattan. Room had a large flat screen high definition television set which was rarely turned on. Table, two chairs and a surprisingly large closet. Bathroom is adequate with tub and shower not not large enough to throw a party in. We will stay at the St. James on our next visit to the this great city. Christmas was a very special time to visit with Rockefeller Center and Christmas displays in Macy's and others on 5th Avenue. Go for it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is good value for the money. Ideally located with easy access to major transportation. It is clean, comfortable and neat for an older hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Although there is no restaurant or coffee services available, there is a great inexpensive deli right next door and the breakfast is great. I'd stay here again […] in NYC. very basic hotel room, they don't even give you conditioner, just shampoo and little soap bar. Horrible shower head and towel bar kept falling apart..... as long as you are just looking for a simple place to sleep it is ok and has a good location. only one staff person bothered to acknowledge customers, rest remained silent at the best.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Horrible experience, hotel locked me out of my room on my 4th night. It is 1030pm and my room will not open. Front desk tells me my credit card was declined. I've been there 4 days and you tell me now! Turns out the hotel typed in the wrong billing address. Why the hotel charges day by day is beyond me. The hotel did not stick a note on my door, call […] me, nothing but lock my out late at night. Front desk was rude, so was I. Elevators are tiny and staff uses the too. Taking the stairs are faster. Very unprofessional. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel St. James is an excellent value; very safe"
Excellent location on W 45 St. Very convenient; everything within walking distance. It is an old, historic hotel so keep that in mind. For the money, it is an excellent value. There was heat, hot water, tv, and free wifi. Room was clean and maid service included. Elevator slow, but there were stairs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Older building like a lot of New York. However this gave it a nice charm. The rooms don't have much to offer pretty basic but the price is right and the location is key. Was very disappointed in the cleanliness of the room. The first room had dirty sheets. Make up stains on the pillow and no shower curtain. The desk manager gave us another room however […] this also had dirty sheets. If they could keep their rooms a little cleaner this would be a great place to stay. I will probably not return. "A little piece of New York"
We love staying at The hotel St. James. It is centrally located and easy acsess for us. We went to see Mamma Mia, ate at Juniors and then had dinner at Buca DI Beppos. Afterwards we had drinks at O' Lunney's . Our whole trip was great. We will definately stay again , possibly this summer. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Love New York"
Very nice room in a great location just one block from Times Square, Irish Pubs, and Restaurants. Everyone in the staff is so friendly and courteous.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Reasonable prices and the very best location"
We have stayed in this hotel several times and will continue to do so . The rooms are basic and old but very, very clean. The staff of the hotel treats you as if you were a guest in one of their homes. They are friendly, helpful and anxious to please . It is especially nice to be remembered from one year to the next. LOCATION, LOCATION!! This hotel […] is in the Times Square area and is convenient to all parts of the city either by walking or by subway . Next to the hotel is the Cranberry Cafe , a great place for breakfast , lunch or a snack. The prices are reasonable and the food fresh. Again, we have never been sorry to have chosen this hotel. "Best bang for your buck."
Best bang for your buck! The area was great and centrally located. The service at the hotel was great, Joe the reception clerk is very helpful and a wealth of knowledge. I will stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Basic but Good."
Great location and competent staff. They provide only the basics, but those are good. No frills. For some reason the ample hot water that comes to the sink did not make it to the shower; do they throttle that? Excellent price. When I told others what I was paying to stay in Midtown at his time of year they were flabbergasted!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great room but little temperature control"
It was agreat room other than the heating. Since it is a steam radiator, you had to choose between cold or hot; comfort was rarely an option. Thankfully, the window opened so we could cool it down every time it overheated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Christmastime near Times Square"
Great location for 9 of us to visit NY at Christmas. Street rooms were noisy, but staff was helpful and accommodating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent location1/2 block from Broadway!"
We truly enjoyed our stay at St James ! The hotel is old but very clean. The front desk were friendly and very helpful ! It's 1/2 block from Broadway. They don't offer breakfast but there is a great coffeehouse/little resturant right next door which was awesome and cheap for NY prices. I will definely stay here again !Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"In general, great, but too close to Times Square"
It was a great deal in a great non-chain hotel with friendly staff, but few amenities. If there were any problems, it had to do with things that cannot be changed easily. It is an older pre-war building and, like many in New York City, the rooms are heated with a radiator system that cannot be adjusted locally which led to some exceptionally hot evenings. […] Opening the window was not much of an option with toddlers and the fact that the hotel is half-a-block away from Times Square. Speaking of which, walking through the throng of people every time I wanted to grab a train was a pain. It's best to go east and the the BD station at Rock Center or walk down to Bryant Park, even if it means having to change trains. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent location, very close to everything"
The room was clean, just the basic. I will stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
We were in town for the Macy's parade and our stay here was perfect! The location couldn't be better for everything NYC. The hotel is dated yet didn't cause us any concern as we only slept there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"location is the big draw"
the Hotel St. James is in a fantastic location---be prepared for an aged place---the radiator in our room announced itself every time it turned on with a less than musical array of pings and pops and it definitely disrupts sleep---room was very clean and serviced properly---and being an old place, not much in sound dampening where most conversations […] were quite clear through the door---bathroom was a decent size---our bed tipped towards the middle but was quite firm and comfortable Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a great visit! Its an older hotel but very well kept up. We visited NYC to see the Macy's Day Parade, this hotel was 1/2 block from the route. They let us check in early and let us have late checkout so that we didn't have to lug our luggage around with us. Would definitely go back when in NYC again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for Thanksgiving parade ."
Great location for Macy's parade. Hotel needs updating. The lack of drapes kept the room cold. The heat did not stay on all the time. It was OK for the price paid. However, there are better hotels for the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent location. No-frills, but all you do is sleep in shower in the room anyway. Walking distance to so many sites and activities. Would definitely stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Weekend in the Big Apple"
The room was okay. The beds were only just okay and the bathrooms were tiny! There was almost no room to use the toilet in the room I stayed in. It was very close to both the shower and the wall. Despite this I'm still going to recommend the hotel. The price is more than right for the location. You will literally be half a block down from Times Square. […] For a first time visit to New York City this was the best place to be. If you're looking for a place to crash after a long day exploring the city and you don't care about fancy trappings book this hotel. It will be worth it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean and Close to Broadway"
I took my daughter, who is 14 on a trip to the city to see a show. The hotel was in walking distance of where we needed to be. The hotel staff was very nice. Our room was not fancy but it was clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"NOt worth the effort!"
The room was tiny, the hot water was scalding, the sheets thank fully were clean. The window did not close and with freezing wind blowing in all night I was sick the next day! The noise from the traffic, sirens, and theatre goers was INSANE! Best thing about this place was the baggage lockers!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cheap to stay at and close to everything"
This hotel is located right between 6th and 7th avenues. The location is fantastic - within walking distance to the subway station on 42nd street and 7th ave, the hustle and bustle of Times Square, and everything in general. The hotel is easy to miss due to the construction obstructing the view of the hotel sign, so you need to be careful when walking […] to it. The condition of the hotel is…well, old(er). There's a weird odor in the lobby, and the elevators are a little questionable when riding in them. There is a room where you can store your luggage if you arrive earlier before your check-in time. The room itself is old and well, kind of odd. There were some cracks in one of the walls, and the shower has no tub, just curtains to block the water from escaping everywhere. I found a hair on one of the pillows (yikes!!!), but everything was relatively clean. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Economy hotel close to Times Square"
This place is decent as long as you understand and expect that this is an economy hotel. The location is absolutely brilliant. The rooms are quite small with no frills, but they are clean, they have a bed, and a bathroom - for the price you pay, you can't expect much more. Décor is a little dated... If you're looking for a hotel to spend more time in […] than just putting your head on a pillow at night then this isn't for you, it's not somewhere you are going to want to spend hours inside watching TV and relaxing but if you just want a bed for the night this is fine. Beds are a little hard but no real complaint, lower floors are quite noisy - but it's central New York... probably expect that anywhere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Inexpensive hotel; good location"
The location was convenient to subway and sites. It's an older hotel with older facilities. The price is very reasonable. I'd rather spend money shopping than on a hotel, so this hotel afforded me extra shopping money.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Two thumbs up"
Awesome location.. walking distance to everything you would want to see and do in Manhattan. A block away from times square.. The hotel is nice very clean, the staff is very friendly..even tho the hotel looks very retro it has the nyc look and feel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Room was clean and larger than expected. Hotel is old and has no food or beverage services but there are two deli's next door. Location was wonderful. One-half block from Times Square and in the Theater District. Many restaurants and sites in the neighborhood. Would stay again, especially for the price in that location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bundle up in NYC"
The heater was not functioning well. We had to ask a few times before the maintenance guy came to our room. It was cold in the room. Anyway when he came during our second day stay, the guy was polite and able to fix the problem.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lower star rating this place has problems"
This hotel is better rated at a 1-star hotel. This being NYC you expect small rooms..but only 12" X 18" of usable floor space in the bathroom is just not comfortable. There was a bathtub/shower, toilet, and pedestal sink..no storage room. One overhead light and a leakey faucet which dripped on makeup stored in sink(during application). Room had no way […] for guest to regulate heat as there was 1 radiator and it heated room to 95*F+. When complained to front desk, they changed it 3 nights into stay. So we opened windows to get it cooler..only to be up all night with street noise. Windows had brokenalum.blinds, only lamp in room didn't work for 2 days, carpet was stained and had burn marks, walls were patched but not sanded and repainted. The elevator stopped either above floor or below and so service elevator was used but it was covered with furniture pads. The nice lobby/book room in back was not unusable as only 4 lights were working. Staff at front desk were always busy on their laptops and concierge couldn't be bothered with helping with getting taxis, or other assistance. It was a good thing we left most days at 8:30 and didn't return til aroung midnight. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"My home away from home"
Have stayed here many times so it was nice to have the hotel clerk recognize me. This place is so convenient, less than a block from Times Square and 2 blocks from the Broadway show I saw. It's not a fancy place but it's convenient and has some nice amenities. Once you check out you can put your luggage in a secure locker room for $5/day so you don't […] have to drag it around. The room was clean, the shower water was hot with good pressure, the bed and pillows were comfortable enough, the flat screen TV worked well and had plenty of channels. It is a great room for under $200 a night and I will definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"excellent location, excellent stay."
Loved staying at Hotel St. James. The staff was awesome, the room was great, and the location was excellent! Though it really didn't affect my stay due to the perfect weather, not having a room temperature control could be a downside when it's warm out.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Immaculate with Plenty of Old School Charm"
We took a family vacation to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday. We had a great time and the location of St. James could not have been better.
