I really enjoyed being at the Howard Johnson Express The Staff was very friendly my hotel room was very Clean and it was a very safe quiet location despite the subway passes through every 15mins or so other than that I would choose to reside at that location on my next trip

Everything was up to par, but the only thing that left a mark was that I was greeted with a hand towel over the shower curtin rod. Though it seem like a clean towel, it just rubbed me the wrong way. Will I stay there again? Indeed I would :)

Lets be very honest: NY is the most expensive place to stay in Planet Earth, so this hotel were confortable for me and my wife. Its very bad located (in the heart of the Bronx), far away from everything....but, the hotel itself is totally clean, very well organized and has excellent well prepared staff...the room is huge and contains a kingsize bed […] inside, a delicious bethrud with warm water, coffe machine included...in general it has met all my expectations. We booked two 'non smoking' rooms and they gave us one 'smoking'. We booked the hotel because it was close to our meeting (since it was a business trip) but the hotel is next to the train. Yes, the subway at that point goes above ground an pases right next to the hotel windows. It is ultra loud and doesn't stop at night... with a train every 15 mins […] it is impossible to sleep. Not a high-end place and rather spartan, but the staff was friendly and helpful, check-in was a breeze, and the room was large, clean, and comfy. Spotless bathroom, plenty of towels, and plenty of hot water. An excellent value for the money. Not far from the Bronx's Little Italy with its great restaurants. Me and a friend needed a cheap hotel for a few nights so we could commute into the city and meet friends. It was a great location. The train is super close and the hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. The beds were a little stiff but everything else in the room was great. The hot water in the shower lasted forever! The hot water stopped working altogether in the middle of my shower. I had heard of this problem by other reviewers, but never experienced it myself. They obviously have a hot water problem that is yet to be addressed. I will not likely stay with them again.

I would say this hotel has a LOT to improve upon. The maintenance leaves much to be desired. The housekeeping was OK however the toilet seats were broken, towel rack was falling apart, and the inconvenience of the WiFi not working and the telephone not being of service as well was a major fail. What kind of hotel does not provide a working phone line? […] This is a hotel that is convenient for public transportation, highways and getting to major attractions like the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and Yankee Stadium, however they will need to do a major overhaul to make it comfortable to stay there. We needed to be in the Bronx for just one night to visit some colleges. We are from a small town in Michigan and it was pretty hard for us to navigate well enough to find and get to the hotel, but once we did we were very pleased. Convenient for where I was going. Large room like other HJ Express. But I was surprised that I had about 30 steps to go up and no elevator. I made it up despite my bad hip but had to get help with my bags. Wifi was great, clean and everyone tried to be helpful. I used restaurant delivery for meals which was ok.

There was no hot water when I first tried to shower and the front desk was constantly busy... probably with other people calling about the hot water. The hot water came back about 30minutes later. The area didn't seem particularly safe but I was just there for 1 night and just needed a place to stay.

you feel the train is moving inside your head, it is difficult to sleep e because of the train. it was a stressful stay.more over there is no elevator so you have to carry your heavy baggage through the stairs. I do not think that this hotel deserve the price that i payed to stay in.

It is very well lit and you feel safe walking to and from the subway. It is in the Bronx and you could easily sketch yourself out because the parking doesn't look the safest nor does the town. This is not my first stay here. Comparing this stay to my others I would say this hotel has improved! They seem to hire a new daytime staff person that was polite and quick to fill request for cleaning service, extra pillows, and fresh towels. Night guy still seems a bit rude. The room itself was cleaner than last i recall with no wierd odors this time. […] They had free wi-fi and an "ok" breakfast, which was maybe more of a snack. The only downfall to this place is the location. Although the train is right across the street, and so is the supermarket, which is awesome, the neighborhood is NOT for newbie tourist.
