Richmond Hill Hotel - London

The staff was friendly. We had no car, but found our way and took the bus to the Richmond train station, then about a 30 minute ride to London. The room had all that we needed, hair dryer, t.v., hot water for coffee and a comfortable bed. It was also close to a friendly neighborhood pub.

A very characterful and pleasing experience, and the real pay-off is the location high above the river with wonderul views from the terraces across the road. A short walk into Richmond town center which is delightful and there are excellent restaurants. Had trouble checking in, at 5pm when arriving at the hotel after driving 3 1/2 hours I was told that they had our reservations, but something was wrong with their system and had to wait atleast 45 minutes til we even got a key. They put us on the 5th floor, but their elevators only go up to the 3rd floor, they didn't help us with our luggage so we had […] to lug them up the 2 extra flights of stairs that it took to get to the 5th floor. At check in the staff were friendly and polite however we were given a room that had not been cleaned. We were swiftly upgraded to a nicer (clean) room but it was a bit disappointing after a long journey! The Hotels restaurant was supurb for both dinner and breakfast.

A 4 star hotel this is not. The room was not the type of room that was paid for and was the smallest and most "Spartanly" appointed accomodation I've ever experienced (booked a king, got 2 twins). I would never stay at this hotel again...even at half the rate.

Myself and my husband booked this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had tickets for Chelsea Flower Show and wanted to stay somewhere fairly close by with parking. Richmond is a very leafy, picturesque town and this hotel was a 15/20 min walk downhill into Richmond centre with its mixture of boutiques, chain store shops and restaurants. It is […] also just across the road from Richmond Park, a large open parkland with deer and footpaths and safe for cycling, jogging etc. The hotel staff were extremely pleasant and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent with something to suit everyone. The evening meal was very good too -although the portions were on the small size but you often get that in good restaurants. The chef was very friendly and had a chat with everyone dining that evening. The background music was embarrassing but we did find this quite amusing! If you get up before 7:00am it will be ideal, but for £120 a night with a very hot tiny room where cleaners make the most noise they can for about 5 hours outside/near your room, it really is not worth the money. How this place ever got 4 stars I will never know. Plus £12 for a "breakfast" that is worse than a Little Chef beggars belief. AVOID.

I can't stress enough how tiny the bedroom was - it's the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in, and not what I expect from a four-star hotel. Avoid if you want enough space to, for example, pull the chair completely out from under the desk without it hitting the bed before there's enough room for you to sit on it. Really disappointing.

My wife and I recently stayed here whilst attending the Harlequins-Munster Heineken Cup QF match at Twickenham Stoop ( across the road from Twickenham Stadium ) . Check-in was quick , hassle free and the reception staff friendly and helpful . We had a standard double room which was spotless , though a little small . The bed was really comfortable , and there was air conditioning in the room to control the temperature . We didn't avail of breakfast in the hotel , and we also didn't use the leisure facilities , but the bar was pleasant , again the staff were nice and friendly . Richmond town centre is a leisurely 10 minute walk from the hotel , Richmond Park backs onto the hotel , and Thames riverside walk is about 3 mins walk from the hotel . The double standard rooms are small with little more than a bed and small dressing table. No drawers for clothing and the smallest of wardrobes. Upon complaining we did get room upgrade to superior which was considerably larger. However the noise in this room from the plumbing was annoying. Want to stay in a quintessentially English hotel that seems far from anywhere yet is only a stones's throw from the tube? Then this could be the place for you. Set atop Richmond Hill with a great view over London and set amongst some very posh homes indeed is the Richmond Hill Hotel. It's right next door to the Richmond Gate Hotel, up a very steep hill […] from the 65 bus stop that runs Richmond to Kingston and a couple of minutes walk, if that, from the 371 bus stop which also runs between the two towns. Hotel is beautifully decorated and staff very pleasant and polite. Room was comfortable, bed very cosy, curtains keep the light out and the shower was hot! All that you would expect from a 4-star hotel but there was one major issue and I really hope that this was just a blight on our room, not every room in this pretty place; the noise. I could hear every tiptoe, every step, every word, every whisper being made by anyone who walked past our room. At times it felt that people were actually in my room! I have never stayed in a place that disturbed my sleep so badly, even a Premier Inn insulates it's walls and doors well enough so you don't hear anyone outside and I have often stayed near their entrances. What a shame for an otherwise perfect stay. Just in case, avoid Room 494 as lovely as it was. Read more
