This hotel is what we expected. We were 3 adults and 2 children in 2 rooms. We had problems with our first rooms - lots of ants in one and a broken faucet in the other - but the staff changed us do different rooms. Great location a few hundred yards from Kruger entrance and a bit further to Sabi Sands. We stayed four nights and took morning and evening drives in Kruger each day. Some guided and others self-guided. The final day we took a self-guided morning drive in Kruger and an afternoon/night guided drive to Sabi Sands which included dinner. The Hotel has a […] desk where you can make activity reservations in Kruger or Sabi Sands. The guides will pick you up and drop you off at the Hotel which is nice. The dinner buffets were varied each night and included several African selections for those whose palets are more adventurous. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. There is a nice deck with viewing platforms which looks out on the Sabi river where you can enjoy a drink and watch the elephants. We did not use the pool but it looked clean and inviting. We chose the Kruger gate hotel because we wanted to be as close as possible to the Kruger park and we were not disappointed. The hotel was beautiful, the service was good and the game drives were wonderful. I really recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel is situated bordering the kruger national park ... it has viewing points , there are tree top like structures and the entire hotel is done up beautifully. The night service with the drums and dancers is lovely .I did not like the housekeeping staff though as they did not do a good job of cleaning the room etc

We stayed there on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised to learn that a delicious buffet dinner was also included in the price... with the bonus of a fantastic live African dance/music show performed around the dinner tables! Such a great hotel to base yourself at whilst you explore Kruger, which is only 5 minutes away.

Common areas are very nice, dining under the stars can't be beat. Rooms are more 2.5 star. Out dated, old tile, but size was comfortable. Lots of children with things to do.

We stayed there few nights, with our 2 kids 7 and 9 years, they loved this hotel, for the garden, playground and pool. It's great located at 5 mn from the gruger gate. The room are small and not well equipped but we don't mind. The wi fi access is free but only at reception area. Food was ok.

I never bother to write reviews for hotels i like, i usually focus on the bad ones as a warning. But Protea Kruger Gate deserves a special mention. The dinner was served in a perfectly decorated outdoor patio with bonfires and a wonderful buffet. Trees all around guests, big sky above our heads with stars and so on. Such a special moment, felt like […] honeymoon although it wasn't. Staff was superb and helpful. They have an in-house safari desk, it's an external company that organizes safaris and airport pick-ups. There was one tour guide, a local guy - he was not very good and it was the only thing i did not like. But the blond girl that took us on our first day was so helpful and had so much fun driving through Kruger and explaining everything. I wish I could remember her name. The rooms are very big and clean. Not luxury type, but that wasn't what i was looking for anyway. It had what's needed for a restful night of sleep. The rest of the days we were either on safaris or enjoying the hotel. Oh! There's a bar with a viewing deck where we had lunch on our last day seeing Elephants at Kruger -- the hotel was that close to the park. What a treat having lunch looking at wild African Elephants!! I love the Kruger and staying just outside the park in this friendly hotel is great. I have visited a couple of times and would go again but only when they have renovated the rooms. Everything worked more or less but was old and tired and a bit leaky. Friendly staff and everywhere was clean but make sure the pool has been relined before you book.

This hotel was recommended by others for good reason. Reasonable rates , good comfort and some good food choices. The location for Kruger is ideal as a starter to your Kruger experience. The only downside is that the rooms can be a bit of walk from decks and restaurants.

Hotell med perfekt läge och prisvärt nära Kruger gate. Trevlig personal och trevlig almän arkitektur. Tyvärr ganska smutsigt på rummet och intryck av fuktig källare i bottenvåningen, försök att undvika dessa rum. Bra buffe. Boka safaris med KNP, det är betydligt billigare än med hotellets personal.

Das Hotel kann ich empfehlen, allerdings ist es leicht renovierungsbedürftig. Der Gesamteindruck ist trotzdem gut. Da das Hotel recht groß ist, wird es regelmäßig von Busgesellschaften angefahren.
