The staff were very courteous and helpful. The food was very good. The rooms were comfortable and beds were very comfortable. Would recommend hotels to others.

service at the front desk was very disappointing. i had tours lined up everyday during our stay in cape town. the tour companies would leave a message and i never received any of my messages. getting a cab was also a nightmare, a simple task but the front desk could not arrange a cab for me. the hotel's staff is unable to recommend places to visit, […] eat, etc. the pool was unwelcoming, cold, small, highly chlorinated and full of children. the hotel was away from the city center which made it a bit difficult for the tour companies to pick us up. Excellent value for money. Very helpful staff and comfortable, stylish rooms. The location is a little far to walk to a wide selection of restaurants but the shuttle service supplied by the hotel is excellent. Red bus hop-on-hop-off stop is close by. Very helpful full-time concierge-type service is extremely helpful. Definitely recommend.

upon entering my room I discovered dirty wine glasses and candy wrappers left on the coffee table. The outside of the hotel is in good condition and looks like a 4-star hotel. The lobby and breakfast area are also on par for a 4-star hotel. Once you leave these areas, the quality definitely goes down. The hallways are bleak and looked aged for a hotel this new. The rooms were the same. It is no better than a cheap hotel back in the states. Everything […] is clean, but it looks cheap and dated. Rooms had a small fridge, microwave, and sink as well as glasses and dishes. This made it convenient as we could get food from the grocery store nearby. There are several souvenir stores within walking distance as well as a laundry service, several restaurants and bars, a gas station with convenience store, and couple of internet cafes. I felt safe to walk to most nearby places at night . The breakfast buffet is excellent. Internet and laundry service is expensive in the hotel, but as I previously mentioned there are nearby places that are a lot less expensive. Some of the staff could not do enough for you and others weren't quite so obliging. Overall the President is clean comfortable and convenient. It could do with a little updating to give it a real wow factor. The beaches at Clifton and Camps bay are first rate. You'll need transport to get into CT centre.

The best part about this hotel is the room setup and the location. The room is set up so you can put your little ones to sleep in the lounge, and retire to the bedroom. It's always a pain for my wife and I to go on holiday as we are destined to go to bed at 8pm when the kids do, otherwise they wake up and we have fun and games putting them back to sleep. […] Hotel location is superb, right near Camps Bay, and one straight road to V&A Waterfront. Pool is nice, if not a little too overcrowded at times. Be sure to get parking included if you're renting a car! This is the second time we have stayed here and would recommend to anyone staying in Cape Town. Although not in the centre, in fact a short bus ride to and from Bantry Bay. Room fine but would recommend upgrading to a suite (we had one on our last visit) as more spacious and more in room facilities - well worth extra money. Breakfasts lovely and Mona […] the egg lady as we called her was a joy at breakfast time, nothing a problem. This Hotel was opened by Nelson Mandela himself and probably hence the name.The Hotel's location is excellent away from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town but just 5 mins drive to the V & A. Our room was super, the food was good with a lot of choice. The views are stunning across the bay and of Lions Head mountain which overlooks the hotel almost touching […] distance away. Also the famous Clifton beaches are just 15/20 minutes walk from the Hotel. The service was always friendly and very attentive and this Hotel certainly by English standards is not expensive. It was recommended to us by an old Capetonian who now lives in England but often stays at the President on return trips to Cape Town. We would thoroughly endorse his recommendation. Read more

Nice 4 star hotel situated 5 mins from the beach. A little way from the water front restaurants so a car is essential (10 min drive). Staff were friendly and helpful. Most of the reviews I read about bad service were not true in my experience. Good value for money and would stay here again if in Cape Town .

Loved the breakfast, great. Super swimmingpool, nice and clean. Rooms where also good, but those who cleaned had a problem with how many towels they should leave in the room. Where missing different towels etc. every day. We had a big family room with a small kitchen, good. The GYM was a distaster. Small, warm, few things, halv was not working. BAD. Service […] at the pool was a bit slow, they never came to you and asked what you wanted. You needed to wave or go to the desk to ask for a meny or order. After you have eaten or drinking something it was not picked up. Lots of seagulls who came at once they saw food. Not good. Not a problem to make this better, there were lots of people working there. But in general a good hotel, no problem to improve some of the negative stuff. Most of the people working there were nice and serviceminded. Good location. Take the minibustaxix to town, 5 rand pp. No problem. Leave 100 m from the hotel. 30 minutes quick walk to Camps Bay. Read more

The hotel has rooms over 6 floors. Floors 4, 5 & 6 have been refurbished but floors 1 to 3 have yet to be done (as at Feb 2012). Oddly, the hotel makes no price distinction, so if you end up on floors 1 to 3 you are paying the same as guests in the refurbished rooms, but getting a much lower standard of room, so beware! The pool area is nice but can […] get a little bit crowded because of non-residents using the pool area. There is a sign saying 'guests only' but the hotel doesn't appear to enforce it. Staff are very pleasant but not always with the program. E.g. it took 3 people to carry out one very simple task and, often, even the most trivial things have to go through a manager. Breakfast service is fabulous. Great selection of fresh fruit/yoghurts, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, breads, cereals, omelettes/eggs freshly prepared in front of you and cooked to your taste, waffles, etc. It really was fabulous and worth the little extra. Lunch service in the terrace restaurant can be slow and the staff don't seem to be as well trained as the breakfast staff. E.g. we had to ask 3 times to get our table cleared, 2 times for menus, then had to ask for cutlery, napkins, etc. Meanwhile, the tables around us had not been cleared, so seagulls were swooping in and sitting on the tables which was very annoying! Overall I'd give this hotel 4.5 out of 5. The only real let down was the service. Read more

This is my 5th stay at the President. It's in a great location, neat and tidy and a lot of the upper level rooms have been upgraded. Great views from most of the rooms. Bekamen zuerst ein Zimmer das nicht der Beschreibung entsprach. Nach vielem Hin- und Her bekamen wir dann doch noch ein Zimmer, das akzeptabel war aber trotzdem Mängel aufwies. So lief z.B. im Bad der Lüfter mit lautem Geräusch 24h am Tag und ließ sich nicht abschalten. Abhilfe er wurde kurzerhand außer Betrieb genommen mit dem Effekt das künftig weder […] Feuchtigkeit noch Gerüche abgeleitet werden konnten. Zudem mußten jeden Tag die Schlüssel neu programmiert werden damit wir Zugang zum Zimmer bekamen. Im Gegensatz zur freundlichen und kompetenten Bedienung am Empfang und in der Hotelbar war das Personal im Frühstücksbereich lustlos, unaufmerksam und unfreundlich. Read more

Hotelli ihan ok, hotellin lisäpalvelut kuljetus ja matkajärjestäjä palvelu hyvät. Hotellin peruspalvelu (respapalvelu, siivous) aika heikkoa. Respapalvelu hidasta eikä minkäänlaista joustoa. Siivous puutteellista, pyyhkeitä ja WC paperia jouduttiin erikseen pyytämään useasti. Sijainti ihan hyvä keskustan ja rantojen välissä. Yksi ilta kun palattiin […] hotelliin huomattiin että huoneen ovi oli raollaan. Ilmoitin tästä hotellinjohtajalle hän lupasi tutkia asiaa mutta meille ei ikinä kerrottu tulosta vaikka kysyttiin vielä lähdettäessä mutta silloin oli eri johtaja paikalla ja hänkin lupasi ilmoittaa mutta ei mitään kuulunut. tolles Frühstück. Allerdings sollte Kaffee und Tee auch auf Selbstbedienung umgestellt werden. Hotel eignet sich auch für Menschen, die sich gerne zu Fuß oder öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln bewegen. Promenade zum Joggen nur wenige Meter entfernt.

Hotellet var bra, men för 4 personer i ett litet rum, med 2 barn i en bäddsoffa, fanns inte så mycket plats att röra sig och ingenstans att sitta ner i rummet förutom i sängen.

Il Protea Hotel President è un buon albergo, con una discreta posizione praticamente sul lungomare di Bantry Bay (bellissima passeggiata) e non lontano dal più famoso Waterfront di Cape Town. Hanno un buon servizio di shuttle e taxi a tariffe ragionevoli anche se ovviamente un po' più alte di quanto si può ottenere contrattando con i taxi pubblici (che […] però a volte non garantiscono il servizio...) Il personale è gentile e disponibile. La colazione (non ho consumato altri pasti in albergo) è veramente ottima per un Hotel 4 stelle. Riguardo le camere, ho alloggiato in una suite di due camere ed è andato tutto bene, ma la camera da letto avendo letti molto grandi (Ottimo!) ha spazi per i passaggi molto ristretti.
