A Kids' Club welcomes children ages 4 to 12.
At AquaWorld marina, 2.5 km (1.5 mi) from the resort at Nichupté Lagoon, guests have complimentary use of kayaks, windsurfers, and pedal boats (transportation to and from the resort is not included in the room rate).

"A solid 3 star hotel"
Starting with the lobby, you think you may have just scored the deal of a lifetime. After getting passed that, everything averages down. The lack of detail is really astonishing. Paint jobs are sloppy, pool tiles are old and dirty, some even missing. The bars only serve about 15 drinks, none of which have any potency unless you decide to go on the rocks […] or tip for a strong drink.The restaurants are mediocre. The eggs taste like they were once powder. The two "reservation required" were also ok. The dishes are mostly seafood or contemporary Mexican. The buffet food, was barely exciting enough to be buffet food. I do have to give them props on the fantastic fresh juice in the morning and the very well cooked seafood dishes that they serve. One that we found annoying was the surveys they ask you to take after every meal. After the 4th one it became tiresome. The beach wasn't as nice as the other hotels'. "Ups and Downs"
We went with a group of 9 people for 5 days. Upon check-in one couple had NO air conditioning in their room and had to be moved to another room. On the second day our room began to have AC issues and the staff came to our room twice to repair it. On the third day they were back again to repair it and that lasted about 6 hours. Two days before we left […] we were offered another room but we asked for a fan so we wouldn't have to pack all of our belongings up with only two days left. They did give us a fan but it seemed to be a major request and hassle for them. Day three I fell going into one of the pools and injured my right foot. A lifeguard came right away to take a look at my foot and he was very good in getting me fixed up. The next person to show up was a lady with a clip board wanting me to sign forms. She was non English speaking lady and couldn't explain to me what I was signing. Never did anyone from the hotel management come and check to see if I was o.k. The life guard did come back to our room and bandage my foot about an hour after the accident. Honestly the entertainment staff and the doormen saved our doomed stay. We were given an ocean view upon check in for no extra charge. A friend traveling with us had oysters in one of the restaurants one day and went back the next day - they didn't have any so he asked the waitress if they had any in any of the other restaurants - she went to the back and the chef came out a few minutes later with an entire plate of oysters […] just for him!!!! The hotel is kind of hiding but totally beach front, the beach is great btw!.. you find a mall (Plaza Kukulcan) just crossing the small street in front. The pool is good not to deep and they have one for adults only. They have entertainment every day for the whole family on the open one. The food on the buffet is a bit boring but you got several places to choose from one of the bars serves snacks until 3 am . The only bad is the slamming doors, but also not unbearable. I work out 5 days a week and have a hard time opening or closing my balcony door, once I figure the special way to use it, I could operate it easier. The rest is ok. We vacation to Mexico once a year and usually stay at an all inclusive resort. We stayed at the Barcelo at the end of May. Our air conditioner did not work and the first repair visit did not fix the problem. The front desk refused to move us to a new room but promised to have a repair man come up to check the air conditioning again. No one showed up […] to repair and our room was at least 80 degrees even with the patio door open. We kept our hall door open while in our room as the hallway was noticeably cooler. We had to change rooms after the first night because the first room was very dirty and dark. It was in the old tower which needs to be demolished!! We had requested an ocean view -- which it had. The second room was also an ocean view, but was more money a night. I don't recall seeing a variety of prices for ocean view on your web site -- just villas, […] suites, doubles, and sea views. The tv didn't work, the clock didn't work, and lights were burned out. As in the other reviews I read, we did get stuck in the elevator three times in less than 12 hours, heard LOTS of complaints about the Internet not working which is unacceptable when paying such a high price each day for it, and the food was mediocre at best with no variety from day to day. We have previously stayed near Playa del Carmen (we stayed here to attend a wedding on site) and in Playa our hotel included free Internet and safes!! I could never find a umbrella, never any empty lounge chairs at two of the three pools. I had 4 women take off their tops and walk around topless all day at the pool and no one said a word. The shower door had a big opening the rubber piece that keeps the water in was all broken so the floor in the bathroom flooded ever day when I showered. Most of the people and the staff don't speak English. Under my balcony was the sitting area out side of the bar and every night 1:30 am the first night people yelling and singing. Then the next night it was the same thing only 4:15 am people being loud drunk singing. It went on like this every night except one. Resort was good. Only problem/not understandable concerns were the dress code for 1 and the ability to make reservations at the "specialty restaurants" for 2 were bummers. Men can not wear tank tops or cut off shirts to the restaurants but fine for females. We have stayed at numerous locations in the Riviera Maya and this one doesn't come close to the other resorts. If you are hoping for pool time, the swimming pools are very small compared to other resorts. The buffet dinners were so bad we often just went without or tried to find a dinner outside the resort. The buffets are also very small compared to other resorts and you had to wait for longer periods of time before getting a table. The main dinner buffet felt like a cafeteria with the lighting. Breakfast and lunch buffets were a little better but without variety. The minute you pull up to the resort, you are pressured by timeshare sales people. We were tired from a long flight and didn't realize at first what was happening. When we did not arrive for our "scheduled time", the lady kept pressuring us and calling our room - she even followed us out to the pool. Bartenders were all very nice. We also had an issue with our airport transportation company, and the men working the front of the resort were not willing to call the company or help in any way. "Ok if you are wanting a party spring break week..."
A group of 12 of us went to this all inclusive hotel for spring break, so we weren't looking for a 5 star resort. However, we were all disappointed with a few aspects of the resort. First, it is not very updated and overall nothing spectacular, but it met the needs for our spring break trip. Also, the food is not great...got very old after the first […] couple of days. Also, there are 2 restaurants that require reservations, but the staff were never sure when/how we needed to make the reservations, and we could never get more than 1 room reserved at a time. So, for our group they wouldn't let us sit together by pushing tables together at all during the week. We'd all be eating at separate tables scattered around the restaurant even if there wasn't anyone else there, which was ridiculous. Also, the bartenders and other staff seemed annoyed with any question/request we had. We all felt like an inconvenience which is not how you want to feel on vacation. Some staff were really nice, but the customer service wasn't as good as it should have been. Also, the hotel is incredibly loud. We could hear everything in our room which made it difficult to sleep sometimes. The nighttime booze cruise was terrible mainly because the host called the "mexican burrito" was scary and yelled at us the entire night. "Great Spring Break Destination for Students"
I stayed at Barcelo Tucancun for 4 nights with 3 friends for spring break. The room was very comfortable and large, and was very clean. The hotel was not extremely crowded, and while we saw many students staying there, we also saw families and older couples. The pool areas (3 of them) were all great and the beach was fantastic! Made reservation in Sept.12. for deluxe ocean view room. When we arrived in Mar. 13. no deluxe ocean views available. This has happened 3 of the 4 times we have stayed there. "Get more for your $ and stay elsewhere."
The food was pretty bad, the drinks were cheap, but the most disappointing part of the trip was how rude the staff was. I was ignored by bartenders, the front desk receptionists could not have been more annoyed by me when I requested to have our out of service room bathroom fixed or the mini bar restocked with water. The exception was the waiters in […] the restaurants, they were attentive and friendly. However they were in a minority compared to the rest of the staff. Even upon check in I was greeted by a clearly unhappy and rude staff who could not be bothered by my questions about the resort. I went on this trip for spring break with a bunch of my friends, and seeing as it is a spring break area my hopes were subpar going in, however I have never received such terrible service by a hotel staff. My assumption is we received such bad service because we were students, which is the hotels loss because we brought them a ton of business with over 30 of us there.
