The location is great. It's close to the city center and you can walk to the castle, royal mile run, and several museums from this hotel. The only thing I don't like is the roller bed in the family rooms. It's not comfortable at all.

I like modern hotels in a city, so this one fit the bill. The restaurant could use some updated wall art (light panels were faded). The front-desk staff were very helpful with giving directions and ordering cabs, etc. Breakfast was delicious! Dinner was good.

We only had one night in Edinburgh, arriving and leaving by train. The hotel was close to the station and all of the city-center sights. Our stay was very comfortable. The staff were all very helpful. I did get a parking ticket though because I did not get out in time to put money in the meter. There were no parking places at the hotel when we booked in.

Our only problem was that we complained about mildew in the shower and our room was changed so that the mildew could be removed with some cleaner that gave off strong odors. Our thoughts were "Why didn't the maid notice this and deal with it before we were put into this room.

Great location to many sites in Edinburgh. Overall hotel was nice, but hand-faucet leaked on floor and some of the restaurant staff seemed a little over=worked and were a bit grumpy. But the front desk were very helpful whenever we turned to them.

Nice hotel within an easy walk of the Royal Mile. We stayed for 3 nights and never used a bus or any public transportation. Edinburgh is so small that you can walk everywhere and this hotel is nicely centrally located. Free wifi in the lobby and small part of the bar/lounge.

We were well served at the Novotel. It was a great location close to the Royal Mile. The room was clean and just what we needed, although a little on the small side with an extra person and a sleep-away bed out. The staff was not service-oriented but most everything went smoothly. We stayed here for nine nights, so we got to see the hotel in detail. I expect some bumps along the way, but I also expect the problems to be corrected. Novotel needs a basic class in TQM. The front desk stall is very helpful, well trained and pleasant. The primary problems were with the room. The room is small for a long stay, with very limited closet […] and storage space for two people, but not that unusual for European hotels. There were several technical problems, safe froze shut, the phone did not work. They did get the safe opened so we could retreive our items, but these problems remained unresolved to the end of our stay. Another example was the breakfest list. Every morning they had to look at a priint out of names/room numbers before we were seeted. There was no order to the list, so the staff spent some time looking through the list for our room. It was a bit amusing at first but after nine days it was getting old. I nice hotel, and lovely destination, but I can't recommend it for a long stay. Read more

The hotel was clean, the the front desk was very helpful. I ordered room service and the employee asked as though he was expecting a tip on top of the 3% I already paid to have the food delivered. My stay at the Novotel was great spent time in the leisure facilities which were really good for my grandson. Room was great other than the toilet not having a wash hand basin, and had to go to shower/bathroom to wash hands the stay was faultless. Nice enough hotel, enjoyed leisure facilities. The bar was very expensive, though the food in the restaurant good. Bit out of the way, Wouldn't recommend walking around with kids - there were an awful lot of strip clubs on the way to the centre!

We stayed for a weekend as there were some good rates available in January. The hotel is very well located near to the Old Town, two minutes walk from the Grassmarket but far enough away to be quiet at night time. We used the leisure facilities twice, they were unsupervised but were in good condition, small pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna were all […] available and not at all overcrowded. Our room looked a little tired and could do with a makeover, but that was the only complaint I would have about the whole weekend. We didn't venture into the bar and restaurant (but I'd recommend Darios nearby on Lothian Road for good, no nonsense Italian food!). This hotel is in a great location. 10 mins walk from the end of Princes Street, 10 mins walk from the Royal Mile and on the main bus route from the airport. It was also very quiet at night, 5 minutes from an Odeon cinema, and had lots of bars, restaurants, and a sainsburys round the corner.
