We did enjoy our stay but Ocho Rios was not what we expected. Around the hotel is very run down. The hotel itself must have been great in its day but is now very old and in need of much upgrading. The a/c didn't have knobs to adjust the temperature and the doors did not seem too safe since we could see light all around the frames. Myself and my 3yr old daughter stayed here. PROS: The location was key. Loved the balcony and view of the beach. The price was wonderful. Room was nice and spacious, Staff was nice and my child liked them. Check in was fast and no problemss. I enjoyed my relaxing stay. CONS: No telephone in room. The Bed was not that comfortable and pillows were thin, […] the beach was not accessible for my child. You have to climb down stairs to get in the beach. While the pool was not crowded with people it was crowded with leaves and needed to be cleaned. My daughter didn't seem to mind. I didn't see anyone serving at the bar or serving food but I was told the do have a restaurant. If you are not high maintainence or looking to party and just need a place to rest this is the place for you but If you are looking to be pampered then go else where. We loved The Silver Seas and found it to be a great value for the money. Because of the high ceiling, the room feels very spacious. We found it to be very clean, even the little balcony, which had a lovely view of the trees and the sea. The immediate area of sea by the hotel had the most amazing place for snorkeling, especially for beginners or not […] as confident swimmers like me as the water was very clear, shallow, and it had a nice sandy bottom. It was exceptionally calm, even when the rest of the sea was rough. The linens are a bit worn, and the mattress not the best, but I found it more comfortable than the other places we stayed. The doorknob to the bathroom was loose and the outer door had a lock with a chain link but I probably wouldn't leave any valuables in the room. A safe is available at the front desk. The balcony doors have just a simple lock on as well. The outer hallway (like a motel) was not lit at night and was very dark. A small stand selling soda, alcohol, chips and cigarettes is within a few steps and available at late night in case you need a snack. The restaurant on sight did not have many options because they were out of groceries but I think if you gave them some notice everything would be fine(i.e. a family of 4 wants breakfast tomorrow or a supper that same evening). There were very few other guests at this time and I don't think they kept much on hand for that reason. The food was average. The staff was all extremely pleasant and helpful. The hotel was located within walking distance of the local produce market (don't be scared by the outer appearance, it is safe to go there), a major grocery store, the craft markets, and restaurants. We did not use the pool but it looked nice.There is no sand at the beach but as mentioned, the snorkeling was great. I would recommend this hotel for families and any one on a budget. It is not very high end but an extremely good value for what you get. It is simple, clean and affordable. Read more

Silver Seas was definitely not what I expected. No this is not the Holiday Inn and not for anyone that has to have the top of the line everything. When we first pulled up to the hotel which we came through an alley, my husband and I were like oh no and scared to get off the bus. When we checked in we were assisted by Clive who made sure we had anything […] and everything we needed before bed. That was very wonderful. The hotel did have locals staying there but I can honestly say the rooms were very clean, the food was excellent and even if something wasn't on the menu, the staff made sure we had it. The hotel staff was wonderful and made the experience wonderful. The hotel is very "raw" in a good way and authentic. We were walking distance to main street where you can go eat, get your own drinks. The hotel yes is very very old but the stay was peaceful., I thought this was actually better than a resort due to the fact you can walk through the town vs a resort you are kind of stuck with American food and not within walking distance to anything. Wonderful experience! Now - The hotel was extremely basic. The window unit provided little air. The bathroom was small and the towels looked old. The television was tiny. However, the room was huge and the balcony was lovely. The cheaper hotel and lack of amenities probably kept other travelers away. This was a good thing. Because there weren't many […] tenants, staff was always available to fulfill our needs. The hotel staff was AMAZING. A driver took us everywhere we wanted to go and even a few suggested places. When they didn't have something, someone simply went to the market and got it in no time. It was almost as though we had our own personal chef, bartender, driver, and housekeeper! If you are looking for a nice, quiet, secluded vacation in Jamaica, then the Silver Seas hotel in Ocho Rios is a great place. I went for my honeymoon and am glad that we didn't book an overcrowded resort. Our experience as newlyweds was enhanced by the seclusion of the hotel. We booked late and this was all that remained in Ocho Rios - but it was very cheap! The rooms were comfortable enough, but everything was a bit tatty. This hotel is right in the middle of the downtown area where you can find anything you might need with only a few minute walk like grocery stores, shopping, corner stores, restaurants and internet cafes. This hotel offers free wi fi in the lobby. there is a restaurant along the james ave alley called percys restaurant i believe, you must go there! its very cheap and delicious! YOU MUST STAY AT THIS HOTEL. If you arent into all inclusive but you want to stay at a beautiful hotel then silver seas is your place. When we went in November 2011 we were one of the few guests because of the down season so it was nice to have the whole place to ourselves. The food is good and the prices are a bit cheaper than I would expect to pay at a hotel. A guy works there named Lenny and he offers snorkel rentals and fishing trips etc. The snorkeling at this hotel is about a five minute swim directly out from the shore and its fantastic. Every day you will see tour boats stopping at this very place to bring people snorkeling and you will have it at the comfort of your hotel without paying to get there! Its extreamly safe to snorkel there and is one of the main things to do. Unfortunetly there isnt any sand at this hotel but the hotel is so breath taking anyway that i didnt mind. The first half of our holiday was in Negril on deciding to go to ocho my friend who we asked to book the hotel could not get the hotel of our choice. Therefore prior to arriving at Silver Sea we were worried. However on arrival we were surprised. Overall you could tell that in its time the hotel was very grand. This hotel was cheap, but to be honest I would rather pay a bit more, I couldn't even bear to use the toilet. The bath was broken, taps hanging off, the dead 3 inch cockroach was at least dead. The bar was not staffed, neither was the 'restaurant' but I couldn't have eaten there. The beach was not a beach.
