Front desk was a long walk to our room. We figured out ourselves to drive around closer to the room rather than carry our luggage the long distance. Also was given incorrect info from the front desk that cost us some driving time.

I've been to this hotel twice and both times had a wonderful time. The rooms are great - although I have to admit, the 3rd floor is much better than the first floor - much quieter due to the 'secure elevator'. The pool is wonderful and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Sadly, we tend to remember the bad experiences. The room was somewhat cramped for 4 adults. The beds were small but more than that, very uncomfortable with springs sticking up into my back. I am tall and as it turned out the bed was the exact same length. The shower was wonderful with no issues at all in the bathroom. The lobby was very clean and inviting […] as were the halls. We specifically chose this hotel because we have enjoyed the pool/hot tub in the past. We we arrived the clerk gave us information about location and operation times for pool/hot tub. Within minutes we were ready to use hot tub and learned that it was out of service. The clerk knew that the hot tub was broken when we checked in and failed to tell us. […] We would have not stayed here if we knew that. Hot tub was out of service for entire duration of stay. Myself and my children arrived at 5:30pm to check in,my room was not cleaned. I reserved the room 3days before and there were no other rooms clean. I was asked to wait an hour and a half for the room to be cleaned. I needed a room with 2 beds and of the 5 they had left none were clean. I would think that if you have a reservation they would make sure […] the room was clean before check in at 4pm. After 20 minutes of waiting for the front desk to figure out what she could do we were given and upgraded room. It had a king bed and a couch that opens to a bed. Finally being checked in and in the room I was late for the Xmas party I was attending. Thanks sandman for not being organized and having your rooms clean for your guests. Read more

Stayed here on the way back from 'Shambhala Music Festival' in Salmo. Hotel was much nicer than expected for price and size of town. We had to check out an hour late because we slept in by mistake and then had a small problem with our shower. Rather than grill us for checking out late, the staff was concerned over the fact that we had a problem with […] the room and didn't even say anything about the late checkout. Room doors did not shut wih their capstan systems, it stayed open 4- 6 inches unless you pushed it shut. Came back from dinner to see my room door open, I just expected it to shut, it seemed to have lots of power to close, so... you walk away...

I did enjoy my stay here but I am baffled why it is so expensive to stay in these small towns. The staff was great and very helpful. The room was a little dated but clean and nice. It drives me crazy that the lobby is A+ and the rooms are C+. I hate being tricked but I would stay there again. Close to everything and a comfy bed.

The pool in the central atrium of the hotel is the centrepiece of the hotel. It is excellent, a good size, good temperature, and very clean. We will stay again when we return to Castlegar.

I reserved a king non smoking. When I arrived the hotel only had a king smoking which was not acceptable. The hotel told me that the reservation from expedia did not stipulate non smoking. Why did this happen? Also, I did not save any money on the room rate and yet a I prepaid for the room. Very disappointing.

If you are traveling with your pet, this is the place to stay. On our drive through Western Canada, we stayed at 7 hotels over three weeks, and this was our favourite by far. The desk person smiled and greeted us warmly when we walked in. She offered our Boston Terrier dried chicken treats and patted him - in contrast to other so-called pet friendly […] hotels, where we were put in dirty, run-down smoking rooms, charged high pet fees and made to feel very unwelcome. The room was clean and cool. The air conditioning was fully adjustable and the pool, in a leafy, airy atrium, was stunning - much larger than the usual hotel pool, deep, and a good temperature. We felt welcome the entire time and will definitely stay here and at other Sandman Hotels in future. Would have given a perfect rating but the hot tub was out of order and the restaurant was closed. There were 4 of us in the room. The beds were small (doubles) and the room was too small for all of our luggage. It was a hot weekend and the AC did not work well and we all were sweating all night. The lobby, and pool are beautiful.The hottub jets weren't working when we were there, and there is no continental breakfast.The real problem we had was that the room had the world's worst case of halitosis! It really stunk.When my husband complained to the desk about it they offered to give us another room, but we wanted one next door to my son's, so […] they said they would send somebody up to spray it with fabric deodorizer.We figured that at some time the room had a flood, and instead of deep cleaning the carpet, or even replacing it, they just dried it out.With the deodorant, an air purifier, and the a/c, we made it through the night but my husband woke at 5 am and said he couldn't stand the smell anymore so we packed and left. this hotel has a beautiful lobby and it is a good place to stay but it is a little misleading to have a 4 star lobby and 2 star hotel room. It was a weird hybrid of 70's tile with 90's wallpaper. It was clean and nice enough, old tv's, no safe, but I would stay there again.

At check-in time the service (or lack of) was pathetic. The girl at the desk tried to give me a room with a small double bed, when I had asked for a King-sized, and it did say so on my comformation (KING SIZE). When I did ask for a refund (as I will not stay at a motel with only small beds avalible) she told me I was screwed as there was NO way she […] could give me a refund. I then said it does say KING size on my E-mail conformation but a Queen sized would also do. There were none of those either. That's when I asked for a refund, and she said tough luck!! I then asked for the manager, and he did make an effort and did find a Queen bed, so we stayed. Had we not gotten the Queen Room, and not gotten the refund like they said, I would never ever stay there again - I don't think that I will ever stay there again anyway!! That was BAD BAD service!!! I stay in many hotels a year. What was nice about the Sandman was that the sheets actually stayed tucked in! I hate the "new" huge beds with the sheets that don't fit. The beds at the Sandman in Castlegar was very comfortable. The only thing that was not good was that the restaurant was closed the night I stayed.
