"Vacation to Cabo 7/2013"
I was somewhat disappointed with the service response of the front desk. I tried not to let it get me down. All in all the beautiful surroundings seem to make up for that experience. I did not like the overpowering timeshare hawks. You'd think they'd give you a couple of days to check out the place before they try to get you to buy into a timeshare. […] I even had them calling up to my room trying to get me to go to one of their breakfast presentations. The last thing I want is my phone to ring while I'm on vacation and then to have it be no one I know like a timeshare salesperson was very annoying. I was upset to hear that Sandos was thinking of taking down the large Polapas at the swim up bar. That is the tallest one in Cabo San Lucas and is a historical landmark, in my opinion. I hope that Sandos doesn't change the Finisterra too much from the original state. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great gem in Cabo & getting even better!"
My girlfriend and I (both in our mid 20's) traveled here for a five day stay in mid July. Our experience was great at The Finisterra! From our arrival everyone at the hotel was very accommodating and attentive, even allowing us to check-in a couple hours early! The resort was not very busy on the first part of our stay, but seemed to be a bit busier […] the last half. We stayed in one of the older rooms. You will see in the pictures that they only show one snap-shot of those rooms, which have an ocean view. The hotel is experiencing a renovation and the two newer restaurants are absolutely gorgeous, as is the outdoor bar overlooking the marina and sea. The new rooms look very nice, but for a more affordable option the older rooms are still well kept and clean (the only issue is that the air conditioner is extremely loud when it kicks on). Although the resort is definitely going through some construction it didn't seem to bother us much. They do start quite early in the morning, but you can just go right down to the pool and relax! The 3 pools they have are very nice. The middle pool has a swim up bar and restaurant, the other two both have volley-ball and one has bball. They did have activities scheduled for the pool and the staff attempted to do them at the third pool, where they also play music, but since the hotel wasn't very busy there weren't enough people. This didn't bother us much since we were there to relax! FYI you can't swim in the pacific ocean, bc of BIG WAVES! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Amazing Sandos Finesterra All Inclusive Hotel"
7/8/13, We arrived at Midnight from the Airport and Greeted warmly by the front Desk guy. I cant recall his name :>(. He was very accommodating, friendly & spoke perfect English. I was amazed at our Jr. Suite #504 which had a spectacular panoramic view of the Pools and Beach. Awesome! The room was extremely clean and comfy for a good nights peaceful […] rest. We had no noise and enjoyed hearing the surf. The entire facility is clean. The pools and restaurants are Terrific and offer a vast array of ethnic Gourmet dining. The Bottomless Beverages is a Big Plus. Entertainment is enjoyable and the Breakfast Buffet is Tasty. You cannot go wrong with choosing this hotel. The Staff works Extremely Hard to make your stay the Best. I highly recommend Courtesy Tipping to the staff because they go Above and Beyond to make your stay the Best. Thank you Sandos Finesterra Staff for making my Vacation an Awesome Trip! Oh, Dont forget to See Juan at the Activities Counter for excellent Excursion opportunities! "Awesome location with great views!"
My husband and I had a nice stay at Sandos Finisterra! The room we got was not one of the cool remodeled ones, but we had a great view anyway. We really liked the food at the resort, and the restaurants, especially Don Diego, were very beautiful. There was a small amount of construction going on, as they are putting the finishing touches on the switch […] to the Sandos brand. "Very Clean Hotel Great Trip"
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The talk of construction had us concerned, but on arrival, the pool was all done and the only construction was to the rear of the hotel out of sight and mind. The rooms and property are very clean with much of the property having been already renovated or improved. The staff was attentive but don't expect anything immediately […] from the kitchen. That being said, what we drank and ate was great and we used the all inclusive option. The rooms were spotless and cleaned daily. There is a 5 gallon water bottle dispenser in each room. The AC can be as cold as you want and the view is excellent. Bedding is great and the balcony excellent for enjoying one of the beers in the room fridge. The location is immediately on the west edge of the harbor making for a short walk to the night life and shopping in Cabo San Lucas, but far enough away you wouldn't know it was there. Don Diego's restaurant is awesome and sits on top of the hill overlooking the Pacific side and all of the harbor. Decor is outstanding and dinner was good. Breakfast at Don Diego's was excellent. The pool is outstanding, the property arond the pool is equally beautiful and there is food available near by. The beach is filled with Palapas and seating. Live music was played on the beach on Saturday night. Great hotel and will definately be back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel. Service disappointing."
Very beautiful architecture build on a mountain. Architecture reminds me of Frank LLoyd Wright. Hotel staff friendly. Service was very disappointing. "Beautiful views, great all-inclusive resort"
I really wasn't sure what to expect from this all-inclusive hotel - especially considering the great deal we got on Expedia. But I was very happy with it. Our room had a great ocean and pool view (as do all?) and was quite spacious. We had two queen size beds and a full sitting area and generously sized patio. The bathroom was well laid out and very […] nice. The only thing in our room that was not wonderful was the caulking around the tub but that's typical of Mexican resorts in my opinion. It bothered two in our group but I thought it was fine. The room felt very clean otherwise. The food was exceptionally good for an all-inclusive resort. Most of the meals were served in a traditional restaurant style where you have numerous choices and order off a menu - the only difference is that you don't see any prices and can have two desserts if you want to! Breakfast was served in a buffet style or you could order room service or wait until after 10:30 when lunch started at one of the restaurants. Snacks, lunch and drinks were easy to come by around the pools. The house wines were less than stellar so if you do feel like a nice wine ask what's available for an additional charge. Other than one night where we did chose to order a nicer wine and leaving tips here and there we never felt like we had to lay out our wallets. The servers were always very appreciative when we tipped. The spa was great! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Sandos Finisterra has turned this place around..."
My wife and I were with 5 other couples who were a little concerned based on the previous reviews about all of the construction that was going on and the 3rd pool and restaurants, spa, gym that weren't even open yet. They were just opening some things up while we were there and for that reason only had opened up 40% of the occupancy to work out some […] kinks...all while giving us a steal of a deal. All 3 pools were open, along with all of the hot tubs...the spa & gym have been open for a month and are really nice. The new part of the Finisterra is really beautiful and having the location that has water on both sides (harbor and ocean) is amazing. The views are phenomenal. The staff is incredibly friendly and you can walk anywhere around Cabo OR they have large cabs ready onsite that you can be in within minutes. The breakfast buffet at Don Diego was amazing and we did that every morning. It's open from 6-10am. La Tortuga and El Aguave restaurants are around the pools and beach and are a good option for lunch...both very different. The Blue Marlin (Italian restaurant) opened on the 3rd night of our stay for the first time and is also very nice. The servers were very friendly, but did need to work on their speed. The rooms were very nice with amazing views. The light cosmetic construction and construction on the discoteca/The Whale Watcher restaurant is far enough from everything that it never bothered us, but will likely be complete by the time you'd arrive. "Horrible Construction ZONE!! STAY AWAY"
Stay away from this construction zone. Its horrible they charge you to upgrade than give you a room where they are installing solar panels on them. Drilling, cutting and other working noises even on saturdays and sundays. Ruined my vacation, management is unprofessional and rude.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good food...good location"
The restaurants were very clean and the service in them was awesome. The Agave, the restaurant by the pool, has great food. The rooms are very clean and the maid service did a great job of keeping them that way during the stay. Although it was my first trip to Cabo, I couldn't have asked for a better location. We were right on the beach and within walking […] distance of town. The only thing that needs work is the room service. The room service staff was only available half of the time when I called so I had to leave a message to have them call me back. Then when the did call back only half of them knew any details about the menu. After I was finally able to get my order placed it was usually in the room in 20 to 30 minutes. Aside from the room service, I was very satisfied with my stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel in the middle of some big changes"
We just had a great stay once again at the Finisterra! We've been coming to this property for over ten years (but are not owners) and the new changes are great. We were nervous about all of the construction currently going on when we arrived but the entire staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. The wait staff at the pool bar and […] restaurant were fantastic! Jorge delivered great service and the DJs made it fun without being obtrusive. The hotel was really empty but I'm certain once all the renovations are finished we'll wish it were quieter once again. Great job to everyone that made our vacation a success. We will definitely be back! The only reason I put a 3 on the hotel condition was due to the current construction work but once that is finished it will be a 5 once again! "I love the Finisterra! New renovations are great."
The Finisterra is an amazing hotel. When the renovations are complete, it is going to be one of the nicest hotels in downtown Cabo. The quiet location is perfect for couples and families. This is not a party hotel. If you like that, stay on Medano Beach. The new restaurant, Don Diego, is wonderful! Really nice inside with an incredible breakfast buffet […] (all inclusive is nice!). The people are super warm and friendly and the service for drinks/food is fast. There are two pool areas open now. The swim up area under the Palapa is great! Don't stay away from this hotel because of the construction noise. It wasn't that bad at all. We didn't mind the noise since we were prepared. Not a big deal. Everything was wonderful! There is a new outdoor bar/lounge overlooking the harbor that is really inviting with live entertainment most nights. They're doing a great job with the new additions and you will love this hotel when it's done, but it's pretty amazing now. The all inclusive deal is the best rate in town and includes room service and one of the best buffet breakfasts I've had at an all-inclusive resort. There is also a stocked fridge and a sparklets-sized cold/hot water dispenser in your room. Nice touch. There is a new beachfront bar/lounge on the amazing beach where you can sit on a couch and watch the huge waves slam on the beach. Gorgeous! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Very nice stay at Finisterra."
We just spent the week at Finisterra and it was great. They are in the process of renovating the hotel, but that never had any effect on our stay. We went with the "All-inclusive" deal, and it was well worth it. The food was greta, the drinks were strong, and the staff was very friendy. I was asked a few times about sitting through the "Time share" […] presentation. I finally agreed to do it once they offered a free one hour massage for my wife. The presentation was nice, but I felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman and opted not to buy into the time share. The price went from $43K down to $7K by the time they got the message that I wasn't buying into what they were selling. Overall I would say our stay was excellent!!! We will return for sure!!!! We had the best service and meals! The resort seemed empty and felt as if we had it all to ourselves. Beautiful! They are undergoing construction, but do their best to keep from inconveniencing you. I look forward to visiting again!Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is still under renovation. It is a nice place, but the noise level from 7am-6pm Monday-Sunday was unbearable! The large pool/hot tub area was closed and workers were there doing their jobs. You could not sleep off the night before in your room, the pool area or the beach!! The employees there were very polite and just pleasantly said "so sorry" […] when I would nicely reply to their "how is your stay here going?" questions. The time-share people constantly pester you from the moment you walk into the lobby. No rooms were available over 2nd floor due to construction. The rate (non-inclusive) was a joke! No offers to reimburse or waving the cancellation fee. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great family hotel!!"
The good: staff is friendly, food and drinkis excellent, pool services and beach front view is great. The bad: very few activities for couples and concierge servise is actually time share sales staff. Attempts to sell the time share for the resort are very agresive, leading to an uncomfortable situation at times. The bottom line: hotel is mostly oriented […] towards seniors and time share members, it is very quiet and great place to relax. The hotel is located in a fantastic area. Close to the marina, yet right on the beach. The beach in front of the property is AMAZING. Hotel has really nice pool area. The staff on the other hand is slow, and mostly unhelpful. The restaurant/bar service at the pool is painful. If you want to drink or eat, be prepared to wait, and to get questionable […] looks when you ask for service. We were perplexed as to why we had to seek out service every single time. Staff seemed like their job was to just stand around, and pretend to clean rather than actually wait tables/take bar orders. If you can look past the mediocre service, the beach view is worth it. "Close to marina and on the crazy beach."
The hotel was a good location. It was close to the marina, and a mile walk away from downtown. The fish tacos by the pool were really good. We ate that almost everyday. The beach on the hotel has high waves and you can not swim there. Be careful if you walk to the left side at the end, the waves are unpredictable and you could be washed off into the […] ocean. We had a nice view of the ocean and patio overlooking the pool, giant huts. We were charged $10.00 for losing a room key. Also, they give you towel cards. Don't loose them or they will charge you too. Watch out for the little building on the right, they will be hounding you about time share. Security was good. We would walk to our hotel at late night and they would always ask for our room number and check if you stayed there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wait 2 more years for the additions, refurbishment"
I would wait 2 years before returning to El Finisterra. The staff is superb - Roberto and Alvaro at the front desk, Joel (BowWow) and Emma (massage) at the pool, and Gerardo and Jensen at the Blue Marlin restaurant. But service is spotty, for the most part, in housekeeping, maintenance, and in the 2 restaurants - and - there is lots of construction […] noise. Some of the rooms have been refurbished (ours was - room 712) and it still had problems - a very stinky vanity sink (needs bleach), a strange bath set-up for someone who likes baths, no hot water much of the time (warm but not hot), and headboards above the 2 beds that were not attached to the bed or the wall so anything or anyone who leaned against the headboards caused bothersome noise. With only 2 choices for restaurants, there is not enough choice. The breakfast buffet in the Blue Marlin was excellent every day. The other food was hit and miss. The pool area is beautiful and clean. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"BEWARE---STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!"
It all started with a last minute vacation trip. All the other "good" hotels had already been booked and the only desent looking one was Finistera. Mind you it was also a great deal Expedia was offering so my boyfriend and I decided to take the chance, trying to ignore all the past comments about their pre-construction blah blah blah... Any who. We […] arrive to our location and right away notice the construction. The hotel is nothing to brag about and neither is their pool. Their pool food is over priced and disgusting. And they have the most hilarious mobil dj playing the crappiest music and games. The location is ok 20-30min walking distance to the center of town. It's across the street from the marina which was a plus. Oh and their is no way you can get into the beach. Since the hotel is on the Pacific Ocean side and not the Sea of Cortez the waters tent to be cooler and have a BIG riptide.. fyi..People are constantly drowning there. If I where to ever go back to Cabo I would not stay at Finistera or go during Spring Break. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Stay away - you get what you pay for!"
This hotel is definitely one to avoid. You get what you pay for in Mexico, that is for sure. I have been staying at this hotel for years and after this last visit, will not be returning. Let me start by saying, the hotel is under construction. The construction noise starts early in the morning and is non-stop throughout the day, usually going until […] 9pm. Picture sitting on your patio, enjoying the beautiful Pacific view while listening to jack hammers drilling cement, hammers banging on wood, and a variety of other tools and truck noises contributing to the heightened decibel level. Just aside of my room, which was farthest from the construction, was a large pile of rocks, trash, and metal. Picture one guy picking up and throwing boulders one at a time all day long. Then, several times each hour, the front-end loader would come and pick-up rocks and supplies. The hotel is in poor condition, too. Our toilet leaked from the base and kept our bathroom area wet and puddled all the time. Despite our complaints, it was never fixed. The phone in the room was broken, as were the phones in the lobby. The internet was down 90% of the time, and when it was up, it was so slow, I couldn't use it. The hotel is definitely old, and worn out. The screen to the Patio was broken and the patio chairs were plastic. The staff made me feel like I was imposing on them and not helpful at all Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Everyone seem to push you with the timeshare promotion. And if you deny them with their offer they get disappointed and don't want to help you with your future needs. "Nice place, little old"
I really did like the Hotel Finisterra. It's older and maybe neglected for a time. However the people worked very hard while we where there to keep it clean. I had to rate it as a 3 because it does need a good updating, which is exactly what is going on right now. Sandos bought them out and redoing everything. Thus a lot of construction noise. It was […] only during the day, usually starting at 7am through dinnertime. The staff was nice. We had a couple of very bad nights, with drunk and very rude neighbors. Every time I called down at 1am to have it taken care of, they said they would send security. We never heard security come, but they always calmed down after that, so who knows. I did choose this hotel because it was far from the party scene, but I guess we just got lucky! The pool area is very pretty and the beach is beautiful. I loved the waves (it's not swimmable), and loved the fact that there weren't very many people. You can see whales from the beach if you are looking for them. Overall the stay was nice. I well say I was very disappointed by the time-share people. With in the first day we had two people try and get us to go, and then had another lady chase us down while leaving for a tour a few days later, making us late. If I say no, I mean no! Between the airport, the car rental, and the hotel, we were harassed for 6 timeshare in just he first 24 hrs we were there. Left a very bad taste in our mouths. We have been staying at the Finisterra twice a year for the past 10 years and we absolutely love it. The staff is hands down the best and welcome us like family. The hotel location is perfect, with town being just a short walk away. The new "All Inclusive" plan was great as everything was comped, including nice cuts of steak, lobster, etc. You were […] given a bill after your meal/tab but you you only payed for the gratuity, which we gladly did at 18-20%. There are still a ton of great places to eat in town, so we used the "All Inclusive" plan for meals about half of our trip. Where we really benefited was from the cocktails; All premium brands were included! There was still some construction going on as the hotel is under new ownership (Sandos Properties), but it didn't bother us at all. Once everything is completed, I truly believe the hotel will be one of the finer ones in Cabo. We look forward to being back in October for Sammy Hagar's Birthday Bash. Salad!
