"Times Square Nugget"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed for a week and were glad to find a hotel right in the heart of Times Square. The service was definitely top notch! The front desk was courteous and the concierge was very helpful, recommending great shows and restaurants. Our room was nice. It could've been a little larger. But the bathroom was a good size and the size of the TV's and the fact that they played HD was a bonus. Also, the bed was quite comfortable. The cleaning staff did a fine job of keeping up the room. I'll definitely recommend this hotel to others.
"Consistency. You can depend on it."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
Finding a "GOOD THING" these days can get harder and harder. For this reason when you come across a 'good thing" it is priceless. One of the most recent "good things " that I have come across is the PARAMOUNT hotel in Times Square. The first thing that I leave the hotel impressed by is the professionalism and commitment that is demonstrated by the staff. Starting with the front desk where I was checked in by Catherine and continuing until the driver which I received at the hotel hands me my luggage at the airport. Catherine followed the details of my visit until the moment I checked out. The only dislike that I had which eventually i got over was the view of the alley where the boiler or some loud machine was placed. I know that from now on I will request a room that faces anywhere but there. If you are going to New York and plan on taking in Broadway there could not be a more perfect location. I love this hotel so much I find myself wanting to travel to NYC more. I cannot wait until my next visit to the PARAMOUNT which I hope will be in the next few weeks.
"Another Good Experience"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
My wife and I have stayed at the Courtyard in Mahwah three of the last four years to attend the NEAF astronomy show at the Rockland Community College in Suffern, just a few minutes away. We've always had good a experience and this stay was no different. The recent renovations definitely spruced the hotel up. The pool and spa area was nice, although the acoustics in the room left my ears ringing after a group of children in the pool were not using their "indoor voices." Our room was very clean, everything worked well, including the internet connection (which is a wired connection) and having a Dunkin Donuts right next door makes a stay here worthwhile in my humble opinion! Just grab a coffee and a bagel sandwich and go. The rates are competitive with other hotels in the area. If someone on here rates the hotel low, they must be comparing it to a five-star city hotel or maybe a destination resort. It's not that, but it is a clean and decent place to stay while traveling for business or short-term pleasure. I believe we will stay there again next year.

Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.
"Nice hotel in the theatre district"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012

"You have to see it to believe it."
The rooms were dirty. The pillows, only one each, were dirty, very old and very thin. When we asked for more pillows, 4 extra, so thet we all had only 2, I was yelled at by the management. The rooms were very smelly and dirty. We checked out about half an hour before our private shuttle came to pick us up, told the front desk that we were expecting […] a shuttle. We then waited in the lobby, only 10 feet away, through glass doors. When the shuttle driver arrived and asked at the desk, the management told the shuttle driver that no one of Our name was staying at the hotel. The shuttle driver was about to leave when he came and checked for himself. We would have missed our flight. The staff were rude. They yelled at guests and acted as though they were doing us a favour by letting us stay there. Everything was too much trouble. Read more

"ideal location, terrible everything else"
The only reason I recommend this place is because of its location and proximity to NYC. Nothing else about this hotel is worth recommending. Good to just sleep and take a bath, nothing more.
"hard to get to ---traffic---ugly location---no gym"
alot of traffic and very noisy...no gym..no pool... ugly location and view....had to have bedspreads and blankets changed...soiled...not many channels on tv
The singular worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Filthy and broken down.
"Not Good and it shows"
I have few issues with this Hotel. Not on GPS. Address does not exist. Address could not be found. So for driving in from out of state not helpful. Called local number 2 times no one picked up the phone. Had to call Hotelscom was no help either. No Ice machine near the room Had to call 2 times for extra pillows TV was bad. Half of the channels were […] snow and static. Have not seen that since early 80s. Low water pressure, had to skip the shower. Bed, not the most comfortable Room very small, bad layout. Read more

"Howard Johnson hotel New Jersey"
The hotel was a cheap price but it smelled like curry in the room we tried to air it out but the smell wouldn't go away. The hotel was actually located on a hwy which kinda makes it inconvenient to get to. We didn't want to pay for a taxi every time to get back and forth so we walked the distance to the bus station isn't far but it's dangerous the people […] drive way to fast and don't care about pedestrians. So it would have been nice to know that it was a freeway not an actual street. The hotel was decent for the price. Although the smell was not good. We went for breakfast in the morning but all the food was gone already and there wasn't that many people even there so they need to prepare more food for the guests. Read more
"No working TV"
After a long day out, all I wanted to do was collapse and watch a little TV. Well, the TV did not work, something about an interior cable not working. At 10:30 pm, I was offered another room. All I would have to do was pack up all of my belongings, and drag my disabled 88 year old mother and all of our stuff up a flight of steps! Not much help in the […] way of customer service, nor any monetary reimbursement. Read more
"Not as advertised"
Supposed to get a king bed in one of the rooms but the bed was a double; they changed us to a room with 2 doubles and were very nice about it.. The hill going up to our rooms was very steep. Would definitely not try to climb it in snow or ice. It served our purpose but the rooms are tight. Staff was very nice.

"Good staff, hotel a bit shop-worn"
The hotel staff was very accommodating to our evolving needs during our recent stay. The room itself was okay - clean and reasonably comfortable, if a bit shabby. The public areas of the building in which we stayed were dirty and littered, and we saw little or no effort to clean them up during our stay. In contrast, the lobby area was very clean. Avoid […] rooms in the front building that face onto Tonnelle, as road and train noise can be annoying. The rooms with two queen beds are very large - easily twice the size of the rooms with single kings. Television service is poor - most channels came in snowy. The so-called "hot continental breakfast" is a little misleading. The only hot items provided, besides coffee and tea, are instant oatmeal packets and bread if you toast it. Otherwise it's cold cereal and cheap pastries. Read more

"Howard Johnson North Bergen - Had a good stay"
I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel given some of the terrible reviews I read. We stayed there with our two young children - we were in the middle building up the small hill. The room was very clean and spacious for our overnight stay. I'm very picky about the cleanliness of bathrooms and our bathroom was spotless. The continental breakfast was […] good too. If you're looking for an affordable hotel close to NYC, this is the place to stay. Read more
"TERRIBLE location NO HOT WATER!"
Wallpaper was peeling off, room smelled, neighborhood was dirtiest place ive ever had the displeasure of seeing, and the bus stop is over half a mile uphill walk on a MOUNTAINSIDE!!! Also-- there was NO HOT WATER IN THE SHOWER and I was visiting in DECEMBER!!!!!! I will say the people behind the counter were very nice, but when I complained about there […] being no hot water, they pretty much said tough luck. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! Read more
"Location, location, location"
The hotel's location lets you almost stay in NYC without paying NYC prices. But, it is not a luxury facility nor are there very many amenities in the neighborhood. It's basically a place to lay your weary head without breaking the bank in the process. Staff was courteous. Room was ready when I arrived early.
I recommend this only if you are planning on visiting new york city. the room have no microwave, not even a small refrigerator, the safety box should be for free, the rugs in the room should be change.
"Losing Standards"
Ive stayed here in the non smoking rooms plenty times before an everything was nice and clean and well organized. This go round I stayed in a smoking room...there was no more on the door instead on day two of my stay I was awaken by a phone call to say some men were coming to install it. The top blanket looked like it had very visible grease stains […] on it. But I think the kicker was the mouse in the room. Read more

""Cool Stay""
It was a "cool stay" in N. Bergen. The hotel was conveniently located in S. Jersey. Yet, it was near downtown N.Y. Transportation was very conveniently accessed. Very cool atmosphere. Thank you for the hospitality.
"DO NOT BOOK"
First room I was given had a moldy shower. The tub basin was covered in hair. Asked for another room. This one had dirty shirts, with something smeared/ smudged on them. I left at this point.

"Highly Recommended for Budget Hotel"
Room was clean. Sheets were clean Spacious bathroom Excellent location- very close to NYC I will stay there again!!!
We stayed there to visit NYC. The beds were very hard and the cleanliness lack a little but overall it wasn't bad. We only used the room to sleep and take showers. The bathrooms were clean. they could have used the sweeper a little better. the bus to take you to NYC picked you up right in front of the hotel and dropped you off there, which was nice […] . "is NOT close to anything!"
So this was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in I would have rather stated in a hostel in NYC I caught greyhound there so transportation was crazy the shuttle bus was $7 pp each way except for last bus at 11 pm its $10!!internet said $3 ! It was filthy ghetto and old has not been updated in a long time. Also its built on a BIG hill. So very […] steep steps! !! Ugh never again staff was very rude to! Not one positive thing to say about this hotel did not expect a Howard Johns to be like that! ! Read more

"NYC on the cheap"
This hotel is great if you are planning to go to New York and don't want to waste money on a high priced hotel. Basic hotel no frills. Clean and parking is FREE!
"Howard Johnson N. Bergen - Affordable and near NYC"
Staff was nice, room was good for a quick sleep over and the wifi was free. Good enough!
"Close to newport PATH station"
If you are planning to park in New Jersey, this is close to the Newport station (4 miles). You can park on street and board the train to New York City. It is pretty basic. We had 2 queen beds. Old linen, smelly room. Clustered neighborhood. But if you just want to crash for the night, might serve the purpose.
"Good location if you are visiting the city"
Everything looked good even though the hotel looks old and beat up, but when we got to the room it was clean and roomy but then the few bugs started to come out! Bring pesticide when you visit!!! I am not a whining person and I only slept there but it is uncomfortable to see bugs in your room
"My review at howard Johnson"
It was a great place for the price. I like the room service was prompt aslo. The breakfast was a nice touch.
Stayed here before. Very clean and amazing staff. Also close to nyc, only ten minutes to time square. Very economical. Don't let the low price fool you. It's as nice as hotels in the city that cost four times more. Very honest people, we left a diamond wedding ring on the night stand before and realized it several hours away, called the hotel, they […] went to our room and retreived the ring. They could of said it wasn't there. Honest people, great prices, and convienent. Read more
"An alright hotel...."
I don't think I would ever stay at this hotel again. The only up to it was it was close to the Lincoln Tunnel. The area wasn't the best area. It wasn't that it was dangerous (from what I saw), but not very desirable. The hotel has 3 seperate buildings, we stayed in the middle building. We drove up this small incline and there were 7 or 8 parking spots. […] To small for the amount of rooms in the building. We stayed on the second floor. Walking into the room, it smelled. I don't know what the smell was. The room had two queen beds and the room was very small and cramped. It had a cruddy microwave and mini fridge. We tried to take a shower in the morning, but I guess we took a shower to late in the morning (9am) cause all the hot water was gone. The bed wasn't as comfy as some other hotels, the pillows were really thin. The beds were clean though. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything in the next rooms. I didn't go down in the lobby for breakfast, so I'm not sure how that was. The room was also very dry. I know that people don't travel around with a humidifier, but it was much needed. We woke up in the morning feeling horrible. Read more
"hojo in North bergen NJ"
Our hotel stay was great! Room was clean and sufficient only problem was no left turn leaving hotel so had to redirect our GPS when we pulled out of hotel. Everything is very close to hotel
"Well travelled traveler has seen much worse for $"
I have stayed in a lot of hotels in this vicinity for similar price and I was surprisingly slightly impressed! BED BUG CHECK: NEGATIVE FRIENDLY SERVICE AT DESK,SHUTTLE TO NY CONVENIENT LOCATION,GOOD PRICE.ROOM WAS NOT STINKY FOR A SMOKING ROOM.ENJOYED OUR STAY AND I THINK YOU WILL TOO AS LONG AS YOU DON'T EXPECT A HILTON ON A HOJO BUDGET!
"Don't let the pictures fool you!"
This Hotel was by far one of the worst hotels I have been to. I had to switch one of the rooms three different times due to bugs and cleanliness. Access to the rooms was pretty difficult because of the enormous hill that has to be driven up to(God help anyone in the winter with ice on the ground.). Plus the Police and Paramedics were there two different […] times in a 48 hour period. Handicapped access is pretty difficult as well and that is hoping you get a room in the main building with only 3 stairs to go up. Definitely a case of pictures can be deceiving! Read more
"Place is a Dump!"
Old worn out carpet, blood stains on the wall, shower curtain for "closet"....need I say more. The place is a dump. Spend a little more to stay some where else...not worth it all!!
"HoJo in North Bergen"
Old hotel. The water to the room was not cut on until after we were in the room. The towels had yellow spots on them and were quite thin. No television guide and no pens in the room.
