Hilltop Inn - Niantic

Overall the hotel was very clean and comfortable. The real issue I had, was that the parking lot and entrance to the hotel had not been plowed and it was on the top of a hill! I almost left because I thought it was closed.

contrary to description, this hotel does NOT have a shuttle to the casino. staff was curt and even though we asked for a late checkout, it was not granted the morning we left. i would not stay here again.

We pulled up it was a bit strange...there were NO other cars in the parking lot. I think we were the only ones there. The first room we were put it smelled damp. Also, we were on the ground floor and our window didnt lock and the screen of it looked like it had been forced open. We requested another room on the second floor. The room was large enough and clean enough, the bed comfortable and the area was quiet. However, the hallways smelled very musty, it took several minutes for us to even find someone to check us in, and the continental breakfast was disappointing. No fruit or yoghurt, and INSTANT COFFEE! Yuck!

We had a short stay here mid July 2012. The hotel is situated on a hill off a main road so it feels rural, but you have access to all the stores and restaurants in the area just outside the hotel's driveway. The hotel owner and staff were very courteous and helpful. The hotel is older the finishes and fixutres in the bathrooms are very dated but functional. […] However, there are several things that are inoperable - (1) the card reader to the rear pool area door is out of order meaning the door is unlocked all day while the pool is opens (not a secure entrance) (2) the pool needs updating - the pool liner is pulling out of the frame and the deck needs a bit of work (3) the dryer was out of order. INFORMATION WAS MISLEADING,ESPECIALLY MILEAGE TO FOXWOODS (ACTUALLY 20+). FRONT DESK LADY WAS VERY EFFICIENT AND THOUGHTFULL. BUT ALAS IT WAS DOWNHILL FROM THERE; SHOWER AND EXHAUST, MATTRESS, FURNITURE, T.V., NOISY A.C., AND OVERALL CONDITION OF THE FACILITY.

The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. There was no ice in the machine and no drinks in the vending machine though. The person at the desk did give us cold bottled water upon request. The complimentary breakfast was horrible! The staff was very nice. The room served its purpose. I knew I wasn't staying at or paying for a luxury hotel, so it was pretty much what I expected. The lobby has an awful smell. The door is locked around 10 p.m. and you have to buzz to be let in. The breakfast wasn't anything spectacular and I didn't eat it, but I saw other guests eating it. It was […] mostly cereal and bagels/toast. On weekends they told me they had eggs. Nothing hot on weekdays. There is a Stop and Shop located across the street, which I found convenient. There is a fridge and microwave in each room. I was there during the week and there were very few guests. The hotel is located in a isolated wooded area so when I would come back in the evenings I was a little concerned for safety. I didn't have any problems, but I always made sure to park close to the entrance and look around before getting out of my car. It was close enough to the highway to get on/off easily, but not close enough that you heard the traffic noise all night. Staff very polite; hotel appears to have been recently redecorated; attractive exterior and newly wallpapered rooms; However, the furnishings are in desperate need of replacement; furniture very old and drawers broken; mattresses horribly uncomfortable; bedding lowest of quality. Hotels.com said the room was 8 miles away from out point of interest. The truth was is that it was 14 miles. They boast a shuttle but it is 15 dollars per person and has only one drop off and pick up time There was no one to greet us and after finding someone our room keys didn't work and it took an additional 15 min of searching the hotel for a staff […] member. THE TOWELS WERE STAINED. STILL HAD COFFEE IN THE COFFEE POT AND HAD MOLD GROWING IN IT. COMMUNICATION BETWEEN STAFF IS NOT GOOD. WAS GIVEN A ROOM THAT WAS ALREADY OCCUPIED. DOORS STICK AND ARE HARD TO OPEN. LIGHTS DON'T ALWAYS TURN THE FIRST TIME.
