Wawona Hotel was the perfect location for a short vacation getaway in Yosemite National Park. The staff was very friendly and helpful in identifying must-see sights. They were knowledgeable about the national park and surrounding areas. The historic hotel was well maintained and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very small, yet cozy. […] Even though the bathrooms and showers were shared down the hall, our room was close to the facilities. Everywhere in yosemite is overpriced so it's hard to judge them just on price. But the price we paid for a room without a private bathroom was poor. Also very noisy as a connecting door to the next room meant we could hear every word. Worst of all though is the restaurant which charges very high prices for very poor food. We had a tasteless pasta dish […] that we would have been dissapointed to pay $10 for and an overcooked steak when asked for rare. So what saves it from a 1 star... The colonial feel is nice and the setting is beautiful. The staff were helpful and attentive. Tom Bopp's fantastic live piano playing nearly every night makes for a wonderful atmosphere for drinks by the fire. My advice if you want to stay here, book early to get a room with a bathroom, enjoy a drink while listening to the piano playing and then eat elsewhere. Read more

We asked if the pool would be open and they said yes it had been since end of March...When we got there mid April there was NO water in the pool at all.It also says they have 'free wifi"....if you are 50 feet from the lobby. A friend and I went to Yosemite for a weekend and wanted to stay in the Park. Wawona is close to Mariposa Grove so therefore very close to the Sequoia Trees. We had a two-bed room with a shared bathroom. The bathroom (toilet only, sink in own room) was right around the corner. First we thought that was really convenient but it showed that something […] hit against the pipes all the time. We could hear it in our room, so that we couldn't think of a good night rest. Also there were stains on the bed sheets which I found when we left the hotel. Breakfast is decent & you can lend a lot of things at the reception. The Wawona is a few miles within the Southern Entrance to Yosemite, so we chose it for its location. The Hotel was very expensive by modern standards but you don't really have much of a choice if you want to stay within the park. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, lovely and quaint location. The dining room served a lovely continental breakfast and our dinner was very good. The room was comfortable, clean and provided a restful atmosphere after a day of hiking and biking in the Yosemite Valley. We will definitely return.

Loved everything about the hotel. Rustic and old so can't give full marks for things like condition, but it's very charming and romantic, and aside from the heater waking us up every morning at 630am, it was fantastic. I'd come back in a heartbeat, and loved the lounge and the piano guy too - amazing spot.

There was no insulation. I could hear the person in the next room going to the bathroom (every detail). My room didn't have a bathroom. It was about 100 ft. in the cold to get to a "shared" bathroom.

This is a lovely old Victorian Hotel. When one man asked if there was air conditioning, it was very warm in the hotel, the employee said, " If there was air conditioning in the 1800's, then there is air conditioning now." Walking in here was like taking a step into history! Friendly attentive staff and good food. Room with bath was basic but would've been luxious in 1950! Small and dark for modern times. Stayed for 1night which was maximum I could've stayed here with the lack of modern amenities like wifi.

It is rated 2 or 3 stars only because it doesn't look like a contemporary hotel with the amenites we are all used to - like a bathroom and shower in every room or king-size bed. It doesn't have a TV or minifridge. I don't think I saw AC either (although I doubt you'll ever need it there). All of this because there was no TV or AC or king-size beds in […] hotels in 1870-1918 when it was built. It is an absolute must to stay there when you visit Yosemite. It is so gracefully built and decorated, the views and portraits take you back in time, and history permeates every single aspect of this charming hotel. Resembling a mountain resort from the times long gone, the owners were right not to convert it into a full service hotel but kept it all very original. Its history is also closely linked to the history of the Sierra Nevada mountains, nearby Mariposa Grove and Yosemite park itself. This is a beautiful location. We only stayed one night and I don't believe got the most out of the hotel. You really need to stay a couple of days. HOWEVER...there are no amenities in the room, including no TV or TELEPHONE. didn't really like the latter. No help with luggage or checking in. For someone with some back or leg problems this was AN ISSUE. […] And they were way behind the power curve in trying to check people in....the line was litereally out the door and double wide. I will stay there again, and honestly I love it, but it is noisy given that people are walking around to go the bathrooms in the middle of the night, and the walls are thin....bring you ear plugs and sleeping pills

The reason for my rating as "OK", is that we rented a room with a shared bath & restroom. Since it's an old hotel the walls are very thin and you can hear the people next to you on both sides. When going out to use the shower or shared toilet you'll wake up during the night to hear the door slam shut from the other rooms, as well as your own room. We spent 2 nights at Wawona. The place is amazingly beautiful. The room was comfortable, esthetically pleasing and clean and the bed was very comfortable. We had the "shared bathroom" experience. It was clean, and accessable. The historic aspect of the hotel is carefully nurtured throughout the facility. The only nod to the 21st century is the wifi […] in the sunroom. It is a true escape from the hustle and bustle of modern times. The food at the hotel was delicious, and well presented. Nightly entertainment from 5:30-9:30 is provided by Tom Bopp, who plays and sings oldies at the piano while guests sip drinks and nibble hors deovres by the fire. He adds to the historic ambiance by sharing his vast knowledge of the history of the place, and sticking primarily to a repertoire of songs from about 1900-1950. The desk staff was always friendly and helpful, as was the service staff. All in all, a wonderful, experience in a charming place. Read more

We stayed at the Wawona hotel for 2 nights, but we were very pleased with the service there. We booked our double bed-shared bath through Expedia for 2 adults, but we happened to have our 2 kids at the last minute and the staff at Wawona (Josh) was able to up grade our room from a double bed to a bigger room (king bed+ sofa bed for 4 people) without […] any extra charges (room #220). I thought shared bath was a bad idea, but actually they kept the shared bath room very clean the whole time that we were there. Besides, it was just a few steps from our room, so we did not have any problem with that. We also had complimentary breakfast and it was very decent for a "camping trip". The only thing is the location of the hotel is quite far from Yosemite Village (about 45 minutes). We will def. go back there next time. Read more

Quick and efficient hassle free check-in, great "drink hours" with piano accompaniment in the lobby with burning fireplace. Parking was a bit of inconvenience because there are not that many spots in front of the hotel. Dinning room service was accommodating and attentive; however, buffet style breakfast (scramble egg) was cold.

We liked sitting in front of the fireplace in the evening while old favourites were played and sung to at the piano and we liked having to overflow park our car deep and dark among the sequoias at back as the front park area was way over-full. But […] we didn't like having to wait for a table in a dining-room built when the hotel was much smaller or having to lug our baby's buggy up and down the steps to our 1915-built room or that the internet was only accessible in a distant pavilion or on the grass outside it. So one might as well stay in Oakhurst! About the hotel: This hotel is a historic landmark... and so is most of the furniture in the rooms! We got a room with shared […] bath... turns out that there is 1 bathroom for all the men in the entire building, and one for women, and pretty inconvenient to access. You go there in the freezing cold, and have to wait outside...for who knows how long (they provide you robes though)... get the idea?? There is one toilet on every floor too(thankfully!). The heating in the room cannot be controlled, they check-in material says to open window if it gets too hot... The carpet could not have been dirtier...The rooms don't have intercom/telephones...so good luck if you have questions for the receptionist The hot breakfast was good... but you had to wait in line to get seated which was kind of annoying... but I think it was more so that people tip the waiters before leaving their table! Also surprising was the demographic in the hotel... this being in California, I had expected to see people with many cultural backgrounds... Anyhow, the lady at the check in counter didn't seem very welcoming, infact she seemed surprized/annoyed to see me,,, "how can I help you" is rarely the way people are welcomed at check-in...afterall I did pay for my stay through expedia!! Must stay location! Stay in this preserved slice of history. Have a drink by the fireplace, sing along with Tom Bopp on the piano, and then go see the giant Sequoia trees at the Mariposa Grove. This is a great vacation destination.
