"Great Location and Price for Yosemite"
Perfect place! love the ambience of a hotel built in 1857, its in great shape considering its age, and for the price it really can't be beat. The free breakfast was better than expected and there are some great hikes right near the hotel.

"Great place to stay"
Possibly the best place to stay inside the park after the Ahwanee Hotel. Room was tiny but we found it warm and cozy. Staff was courteous and helpful. The lounge is a great place to spend some time by the fireplace - it's well furnished and has wifi.

"We loved the unique and historical rooms!"
If you are looking for big rooms with a tv to hang out in all day, DON'T COME HERE! The gorgeous rooms and great staff were perfect as a stopping point in between all of our Yosemite Adventures. It is very true to its historical history in that the rooms are small and the shared bathrooms and showers are down the hall from the room, but were clean and well heated! We LOVED it! No TV in the room was great!

"First Time in Yosemite"
The hotel was clean, staff was friendly and helpful. The only problem was that we were there the last weekend they were open for the season, so they were out of some food items on the menu and various amenities. Absolutely not a big deal, just don't forget toothpaste! Everything else was beautiful, fun and amazing!

Great place to stay. Everyone is very friendly. The atmosphere really takes you back to a simpler time. No tv in the room. No phone to bother you. The fireplace room is a great place to sit and relax. The restaurant is a little pricey but they make the best hot chocolate in the world!

"Pros and Cons"
Winona Hotel is certainly a charming place to visit in Yosemite. At night Tom Bopp does an excellent job singing and playing the piano in the lobby with a roaring fire to take the chill off. The place is acceptably clean and well maintained. The restaurant offers good meals slightly over priced. The problem is it's an hour drive over windy roads to the valley to see the sights. That's two hours total just in driving time. Also the bathrooms, though very clean, are outside. And getting up in the middle of the night and getting dressed for 30 degree weather for a mad dash to use the bathroom gets old very fast. With the driving time and the bathroom situation I wouldn't suggest staying there.

"We need more comfort"
The hotel is a beautiful old structure with a great staff. The problem is there is no bathroom nor sink nor fridge in most of the rooms. You have to put on a bathrobe and walk 100 yards outside to group bathroom or a group shower. They have wifi in one room at the end of the resort.

"Location location location"
It's an old hotel-135 years old- with small rooms without closets, and bathrooms(albeit bright and clean) down an outside corridor and around a corner. But in a lovely location close to the Mariposa grove at the south entrance to the park. The staff were very attentive in the hotel, giving lots of extra help with birthday celebration and putting our three rooms in a little alcove together. The restaurant, however, had exceptionally slow service, and we all disliked the continental breakfast, which was sweet yogurt, sweet granola, sweet bread, sweet fruit cup, and sweet muffin, individually plated.

"Wowona Hotel was just what we wanted."
The Wawona Hotel was exactly what we were looking for. It is a turn of the century hotel that still retains a lot of the charm from that era. If you are looking for all of the normal amenities of a modern luxury hotel, this is not the place for you. So don't stay there and be disappointed. For my wife and I, we loved it! This WAS a luxury hotel back in its heyday and is still wonderful. Great experience.

"Wonderful place to relax after hiking. Nice pool."
Had a great stay here. Arrived late after doing the killer Half Dome trail and received a warm welcome. Stayed in Curry Village the night before so this seemed really luxurious! Chose a room without bath and was delighted to find we were based in the main old hotel building, which has great character and charm. Had a room in the front with nice view of the grounds and best of all a couple of adirondack chairs on which to relax on the large balcony deck outside our room. Heaven. Great breakfast and so nice to be able to go down and get coffee or tea from 6 am onwards. Really enjoyed having a swim after hiking and the general vibe at this hotel is very relaxed, friendly and low key. Would not hesitate to return.

"Charming Yosemite"
We had an enjoyable stay in the historic Wawona Hotel. Rooms are small with decor fitting the period. Separate bath areas were nice and clean. Thought the drive takes about 45 minutes from the valley floor, it feels peaceful and special to be in Wawona. The Mariposa Grove is very close, a good thing to see right after breakfast as we did on our last day in the park.

"Historical, but that's about it"
The hotel has its historical look and the staff are in general pretty friendly. However, if noise and privacy are your main concern, then this hotel is definitely not for you. The wall is pretty thin. And in order to let the wind flow, you have to keep the window open. Everyone can know what you are up to. Also, unless you are planning to exit on the south entrance, the hotel is kind of far from the hot spot. Would be good if you've already been to north and east part of the park and using this as your final stop as you exit the part (or reverse trip).

"Nice location in upper Yosemite"
While Wawona Hotel is in a beautiful location, we thought the amenities were lacking for the price of a room which didn't even have a bathroom of its own. We were also expecting a usable pool. It was being repaired and had no water in it. We were very disappointed that check was at 5pm and then you had to check out by 11:00 the next morning.

"Great historic hotel in Yosemite National Park"
Wawona Hotel was the perfect location for a short vacation getaway in Yosemite National Park. The staff was very friendly and helpful in identifying must-see sights. They were knowledgeable about the national park and surrounding areas. The historic hotel was well maintained and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very small, yet cozy. Even though the bathrooms and showers were shared down the hall, our room was close to the facilities. Not much selection for dinner at the park; thus, we ate at the hotel each night, which was rather pricey. Local grocery store nearby for snacks closes at 5pm.

"Not impressed but a few plus points."
Everywhere in yosemite is overpriced so it's hard to judge them just on price. But the price we paid for a room without a private bathroom was poor. Also very noisy as a connecting door to the next room meant we could hear every word. Worst of all though is the restaurant which charges very high prices for very poor food. We had a tasteless pasta dish that we would have been dissapointed to pay $10 for and an overcooked steak when asked for rare. So what saves it from a 1 star... The colonial feel is nice and the setting is beautiful. The staff were helpful and attentive. Tom Bopp's fantastic live piano playing nearly every night makes for a wonderful atmosphere for drinks by the fire. My advice if you want to stay here, book early to get a room with a bathroom, enjoy a drink while listening to the piano playing and then eat elsewhere.

"Misleading!!!!!"
We asked if the pool would be open and they said yes it had been since end of March...When we got there mid April there was NO water in the pool at all.It also says they have 'free wifi"....if you are 50 feet from the lobby. And guess what? You can stay in Fish Camp at a GREAT hotel for $20.00 MORE A NIGHT! I like old and charming and quaint...but be honest, so people and their kids aren't disappointed when they get there!

"Slow Down and Enjoy the Wawona."
First you must keep in mind this hotel, and especially the Clark Cottage we stayed in, was built in the 1870's. Don't expect a five star hotel but that is the very charming aspect of this hotel. You feel a part of history and wonder who also walked the creaking floors, looked through the wavy old glass, and can envision a horse and buggy rolling up to the front. The staff was very friendly and the limited menu meals in the hotel were very good. Don't expect any TV, or WiFi in the rooms (this is a plus in my mind). They do have an area of the hotel to pick up WiFi if you can't live without it for the enitre stay. I think it is something you should take in to get in the slow lane of life for a couple of days.

"Small but warm room"
Mostly they only have Double Bed and no wifi in the very small rooms, but you can find wifi signal in the "sun room". Forget about the cellphone signal. Mostly you have to share bathroom with another room. However, there is a possibility that you could use the bathroom by your own room. Ask for it. Very good view of forest. It is very close to the Mariposa Grove Trail, which you could see the extremely big trees. Not very quiet at night, because of the noise of frogs. (Early April)

"Get in touch with the history of Yosemite.."
Hard to give "Superb" rating to the hotel that is intentionally kept timechange-free.. it is like trip back in time, very charming and heart warming. Staff does wonderful job making everyone comfortable, and the grounds are very inviting and call for relaxation. We love the hotel and keep coming over and over again, and maybe yes, there are few things that can be better/brighter/more modern but we enjoy the historic charm and in particular, evening around the fire with live piano music...

"For a one-night stay okay"
A friend and I went to Yosemite for a weekend and wanted to stay in the Park. Wawona is close to Mariposa Grove so therefore very close to the Sequoia Trees. We had a two-bed room with a shared bathroom. The bathroom (toilet only, sink in own room) was right around the corner. First we thought that was really convenient but it showed that something hit against the pipes all the time. We could hear it in our room, so that we couldn't think of a good night rest. Also there were stains on the bed sheets which I found when we left the hotel. Breakfast is decent & you can lend a lot of things at the reception. All in all it was okay but I wouldn't want to go there again.

"Old Historic Hotel"
The Wawona is a few miles within the Southern Entrance to Yosemite, so we chose it for its location. The Hotel was very expensive by modern standards but you don't really have much of a choice if you want to stay within the park. The room was small, there are no phones, TV or internet, which was OK for one night. The only major negative was the walls were paper thin. The people next door might as well have been in the same room as us, we could hear every thing they said. I also was awakened early by either the staff or other guests walking past the room.

Stayed with family for one night in the Little White Cottage. Had two interconnecting rooms which were both lovely. Main hotel was nice too with friendly staff. However it was let down by poor wifi and expensive but only average restaurant. Main problem was the shared bathroom arrangement. I did not expect to have to walk outside to use the bathroom and showers.

"Old fashioned, nice but understand limitations"
Stayed for three nights having pre-booked. Had read about rooms without own bathrooms, and took one of these, albeit a little nervously. Let's be honest, having to dress enough to go outside, in the cold, is enough to make you lay in bed and think "do I really want to go?!". Would I do the same again, to save money? Possibly. On advice from a review, I had pre-requested a room on the first floor (top floor) of Moore Cottage. Whilst having its own parking, we hated it, and immediately rejected that. The room was very dark and dingy, and the shared bathroom was only on the ground floor, at the foot of a long staircase, and outside where we'd have been nervous about bears!! Swapped to the main building, which was still dark, but better. Only odd thing was the outside walkway had chairs that a guest from a corner room next door took to sitting on, and making loud phone calls. Not very neighbourly. The included continental breakfast was pre-served on a plate, and had far to much cake for my morning eating habits. The location was very good, and close to key sites. Lounge was nice with pianist, log fire etc, nice porch with rocking chairs. Wifi in one room only at end of site, and slow when more than 1-2 people there. I could get no cellphone signal either, but others could (on verizon perhaps?). All in all, an unusual experience, but one which enhanced our stay in Yosemite. I'd go again.

Beware we booked a Queen room through Hotels.com Were told when we arrived it was a shared bathroom. On the web site it says the Queen rooms are with bath! We had to pay an extra 40$ to upgrade for private bathroom. This had an ill fitting adjoining door so you could clearly hear the people in the next room, not very private. This was not at all clear when booking. The staff were helpful and polite. The food was good but the service was a little slow and rather quaint.
