Chateau Cartier Resort - Gatineau

For a 4 Star hotel, I didn't expect to find the bathroom floor tiles cracked nor the wallpaper that was peelinf off the wall. Expected more, but apparently there are some rooms that are renovated.

This hotel is in a nice location and is just 15 min from Ottawa downtown.

The Chateau was great! We had no issues with the room. We had little interaction with the staff, but they were very nice when we did. They spoke mainly French but switched to English after I said Hello. The hotel is very close to a cute neighborhood with great dining options, and it is an easy drive to the highway and to the city. It is a very good hotel to stay with family. Staff was very good. Only thing they should change is the TV, if they could only upgrade to flat screens, it will be added bonus.

If you have a car while visiting Ottawa, you MUST stay at this hotel. It is a 10 minute drive over the bridge to get from "French" Gatineau to "English" Ottawa. The rooms are LARGE with a sitting room separated by French doors from the bedroom. A small problem arose when, after a day of touring, we came back late at night to find our room had not been […] touhed by housekeeping. The woman at the desk threw the problem back to us by saying there was no one there to correct this at night. We were astounded because of its star rating. But .... it all worked out well when the manager met with us the next morning, apologized profusely, gave us complimentary breakfast for the next 3 days (plentiful buffet) , reduced the rate for one night AND had a basket of fresh fruit delivered to our room. Great for families. Nice workout room and pool. Steam room and personal trainers available. Restaurant is good and I was comfortable eating there for all my meals. Staff was professional and very nice. They were especially helpful with my lost luggage at the airport. I would stay there again. It is best to have a car, as Ottawa is 30 mins away. I stayed three nights at the Chateau Cartier while on business in Ottawa. The hotel is across the river from the city of Ottawa in the province of Quebec. It is away from the hustle and bustle but also close to the city. I had no complaints about the quality of the room or the hotel. The staff was friendly. The free wireless Internet connection worked […] well. The public computer in the lobby also worked well. The parking was adequate and free. The beds were comfortable enough for hotel beds. The room was clean and spacious. These rooms actually have a mini pseudo living room area off to the side with a couch and coffee table for relaxing, which is kind of nice. The room was a bit pricey, but all of the hotels in the Ottawa area are pricey, so it's hard to hold that against the place. Also, I was traveling for business and this hotel is geared more toward vacationers. I did not get the opportunity to enjoy any of the amenities as I was working most of the day. I would not have stayed at this hotel were it not for the seasonal discount (November in Canada isn't exactly a prime vacation time) bringing the price more in line with other hotels in the Ottawa area. Getting into the city during morning rush hour can be a bit of a challenge. The bridges from Quebec to Ontario back up in the morning, and it makes for a very slow commute. Budget extra time into the schedule if you need to go into the city or get to the highway during the morning rush hour. This is the main reason I would not recommend this hotel for business travelers. It is not close to many businesses, and you would be better served staying somewhere closer to where you will be working. It is a decent hotel, though, and in all fairness it is not really targeted at business travelers. Read more

we had our room switched we were right over the golf tee off,.explained as an upgrade.(gee thanks?) remote for the tv wouldn't work any of the three we tried,.even maintenance could make it work,. a room with tv that won't change channels??? service and food at ekko was awful we had to ask for the table to wiped off first it was tres gross! ,the steaks […] were burnt, the fries looked like they had been thru the laundry and were cold, kids left their hamburgers because they were over cooked, even our smallest left his fries,. (then we knew they were really bad). waste of $105.00.waitress was too busy cleaning to bring a second cup of coffee for the wife,. coffee pot for coffee maker was missing,.no morning coffee,. Our room was freezing we were told the heat was off,.(cold in aug??) The swimming pool was freezing so they put a hose from the hot tub to the pool,. never made any difference ,. beautiful hotel that looks dilapidated and suffering from budget cutbacks i,d guess. Hotel is in a great location just 6 miles from Rideau street and is in a scenic neighborhood. Drive to and from the hotel was a pleasant surprise as the view from the bridge was excellent. It was a very nice hotel. The dining room was just OK for food but the menu was limited. The pool was closed and no one seemed to be concerned when people were disappointed in the lack of a facility that was in their information. It was convenient for travel into Ottawa. Only 3.9 miles to the best museum, the Museum of Canadian Civlilization.

I had previously stayed at the Chateau 2 years ago was very happy about room, service, cleanliness, and the location. It is just a few miles outside Ottawa away from the city bustle and with quiet, serene grounds for a nice stay. They were renovating then. We were surprised at how the room was now. The room is large and has a sitting area with a sofa […] which was old but clean. The pool being unavailable for such a long period was inconvenient. The main reason of not recommending the hotel: the bathroom. It was neat but the mildew on the tub, the rust on the door above the tub was not expected for a resort hotel. We did receive a room with a view of the grounds, a microwave and fridge as requested, but the condition of the bathroom is the reason we will not be staying here for any future visits. Read more

We went through four rooms looking for some A/C that worked much to the "surprise" of the management. When we finally did find a room we could spend the night moderately comfortably in, it was on an upper floor where we could at least open up the windows. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and there are very few amenities; no restaurants other than […] the bar so we went out in search of breakfast. We stayed in the Boutique suite, and it was fantastic! Beautifully decorated, with fantastic views. The gentleman on reception was very friendly and helpful, and gave us 'his favourite room'. We were on the top floor, on the corner, so were not disturbed in the slightest. 10 mintutes after we arrived in our room, he rang to check that we were satisfied. […] The restaurant Ekko was also very good, basic menu, but excellent service. Ideally situated a few minutes by car from downtown Ottawa. Super rooms and nice restaraunt with good food at reasonable prices. For golfers there are several courses near by in addition to the one at the hotel,including a couple right accross the road

The room was clean, the beds comfortable and the service ok, just the TV was not working ok, but it is fine. If you have a car and you don't mind to drive 10 mins. to downtown it is a great choice for the money you pay. I would stay here if I have a car.

Furnishings in hotel (lobby, room) are aged and could be updated. Service at the front desk is less than attentive, not very welcoming. There was no concierge service, though they said there would be. For the scale of the hotel, this is unsatisfactory. We stayed in a newly renovated room which had a clean, modern feel. But design considerations to some extent outweighed practicality - we stayed for a week and there were no drawers or places to put things away so you end up using a suitcase. Only the older rooms have fridges but we had a small one cheerfully delivered on the second day (none available […] on day 1). Hotel room was really big. Had a great view. Bathrooms were clean. The sofa in the room looked like it was 20 years old but the beds were fine.

We enjoyed our stay and felt that the room was clean and well priced, but the rest of the building needs some work to return to its former glory. We were on family vacation and we are so pleased with the hotel everything was excellent, room, location, dinning, golf. Swimming pool is not upto 4 star standard. Staff was very courteous and helpful and smiling. Overall great experience and would highly recommend for a family vacation.

I was on business in Ottawa for 7 days. At first I hessitated because it is not a central hotel, but it was a snap to get back and forth to downtown for my meetings. And I actually apprecitated a calm relaxing, and beautifull hotel away from the husstle and bustle of downtown to relax in after working. Great hotel, I would expect to pay $150 to $250 […] for anything even close to this hotel 5 minutes down the road in the downtown area. Read more

This is a gorgeous resort/hotel. We actually thought it too good to be true for the price. Definitely would stay there again.

Very nice hotel. Good location. Free parking. Nice pool, sauna, fitness room. Bed was great and room was very nice. Only minor issues were front desk never answered phone and bathroom door did not lock. Overall, excellent value for the money and would stay there again.

Having read the posts of others before our trip was not sure of what to expect. The service upon arrival was warm, helpful and accommodating and remained that way throughout our stay. We actually ended up staying an extra night. Our room was spacious, a suite, in fact, and while it faced onto parking at the front of the hotel, it also fronted a quiet […] wooded area. The bedroom was spacious with a really comfortable king-size bed and plenty of storage space. Carpeting was new in the suite and all areas seemed to be freshly painted.We used the exercise level with its pool and spa and enjoyed fresh apples each day, fruit-scented water and the quiet feel of the place. The hotel is newer, but the rooms are dated. The tv's are large and of poor quality. The channel selection is poor. Room service and restaurant on site is extremely poor. Everything closes for three hours after lunch. The gift shop is non-existent. Oh, the best for last. You will be woken each morning by roars of the construction crew next door hooting […] and hollering. When I brought it to the hotels staff attention, they more or less laughed in my face. Now when it comes to staff, trying to get the smallest of things..say like a cork screw, forget it. I placed two calls one afternoon, and am still waiting. This hotel is probably great for wedding and banquet type functions. As for a peaceful get away, do what I did and get a room over at the Lord Elgin...much nicer and the staff know how to treat their guests. Read more

Stay was great. Loved the view. The kitchen needs improvement as the service was sloppy.

Stayed on a Thursday night. Large room with double beds, pretty clean. Never did find the TV remote! Bit far from a choice of eating establishments as we were mid evening before looking for a place to eat. Our room was close to the condo construction and they started work at 7 a.m., so we were up early. Nice place for the cost, beautiful city.
