This is a good choice if North Vancouver is your destination. Lots of shopping and eating in the market below the hotel, which is also where the parking is located. The more upscale and higher priced rooms get you further out towards the water, which can be worth it in terms of quiet and view.

Location.
Located in Richmond, BC, the Sandman Vancouver Airport hotel is located just minutes from YVR - Vancouver International Airport. Downtown Vancouver is 9.5 km from the hotel. The hotel is also only 1.6 km (1 miles) from the River Rock Casino and 7.2 km (4.5 miles) from the Bloedel Conservatory. Other nearby attractions includes Steveston Fishing Village, Golden Village, Richmond Nature Park and Richmond Buddhist Temple.

"clean, close, cheap"
This is my go-to hotel for a cheap and easy stay in Vancouver. Not fancy, but sufficient for my needs. Staff is nice and location is great if you are hankering for a some chinese food.

stayed there overnight on the way to a vacation. Had airport transport available, friendly and helpful staff, and very clean bedroom. I have stayed in this hotel before and have reccommended it to others.

Enjoyed the stay. Staff was very helpful, airport transit was convenient, and the room was very clean. This is the 3rd time staying there. I have recommended it to a family member.
The Sandman Airport hotel is perfect for me, and any overnight traveller I'm sure. The hotel is very clean and so convienient to the airport with a good shuttle service, I will stay there again next trip. The parking is also a plus.

"Convenient to Airport & restaurant"
We ha;ve previously stayed at the Accent Inn and once at the Travellodge but now, we'll book the Sandman as it was very nice, great shuttle service, rooms were awesome and we especially liked the window opening. I am a smoker and find some of other hotel rooms disgusting but the Sandman was not too bad at all.
"Good immediate stop -"
Look, this is not the Ritz, but it is a good cheap, clean spot to stay. I got marooned in the Vancouver en route to Victoria due to ferry cancellations. This place was a good respite from the storm. It is 5 min from all the best Chinese places in BC, so I had a good time.

The hotel was great I would stay in a Sandman hotel in the future. The restaurant with the hotel was over the top, service and food was the best we had on our vacation.

Very convenient to airport. shuttle on time. Just what we needed for early flight out of yvr
The furniture in rooms are outdated. Need a serious remodeling. Our room was very small, and the airconditioning unit was to noisy to keep it going during the night. Service was fine, but I would not stay there in future again.
The Sandman Hotel Vancouver Airport- check-in was not as speedy as it should have been although the ONE person who was there was courteous. "Wonderful Hotel EXCEPT for the Cigarette Smell"
This hotel would have been excellent except for the permeating smell of cigarette smoke in the elevator, hallway and room, despite having booked a non-smoking room. The bed was comfortable. Spent night before cruise at this hotel near airport. No one to help with luggage. The entire hotel, even our smoke-free room reaked of smoke and a terrible stench. The awful ordor was intense and I was not the only guest to note it. I did not want to sleep in the bed or walk barefoot on the carpet. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Overall, it didn't looks like a 3 stars rating to me for the price I paid. Reception was bad. The lady was idle but did not want to help me to check in. I had to wait for other guy for 20 mins. No fridge in room. Front desk scoffed when I asked. Not even available for those who need to store their medications. Why do the Housekeeping carts need to be loaded up the afternoon before and stored right outside my room? Room smelled musty. Room keys did not work after first day of three night stay. We spend a couple of days in Vancouver and were looking for a reasonable priced hotel and found the Sandman. It's a little bit far from downtown, but if you don't mind the drive a good place to stay. It's clean, new, comfortable. The two things we missed was complementary breakfast (liked breakfast at Cucumber cafe more than in restaurant connected […] to hotel) and a coin laundry at the hotel (we were traveling with 2 kids for a week and needed clean clothes). "Overall satisfied"
As requested, the hotel staff gave us a room away from freeway 99 and on 3rd floor. We were facing the parking lot and the quiet neighborhood. Thus, we had a good night sleep without cars and airplanes noises.

"Bait and Switch"
Like a previous reviewer, I too was sucked in by the pictures of the Sandman "Signature". I was quite certain that I was booking into the "Signature" hotel because I was going to be traveling with a long trailer and I checked to make sure they had enough parking lot to handle it. Imagine my displeasure when I found out, at check in, that I was not staying […] at the "Signature" hotel, but was in fact staying at the older "Airport" hotel. The desk clerk said this happens all the time. Well, if it happens all the time why don't they fix the problem? The hotels are close to the airport, but are VERY hard to get to even though they are both on the same road right next to BC99. You have to take back roads to get to them and during my three day stay I don't think I took the same route twice, in or out. The folks at the "Signature" were nice enough to let me keep my trailer there overnight the one night I needed, in fact it was the same girl who had helped me earlier. Both hotels had friendly staff. I would suggest staying here only if you going to or from the airport. Otherwise I'd suck it up and stay downtown. It's not worth the money to drive back and forth. "Highly disappointing"
Started off badly - shuttle was late, headlights not working and driver complaining about the hotel. Didn't get better on arrival - the hotel looked nothing like the photos I had seen - turns out there are two Sandman Vancouver Airport, this is the run down one. Front desk was impersonal. "needs improvement"
we stayed in the kichenett suite. The air condition does not travel to the upper level where the king size bed located. It is kind of too warm in the upper level. Other than that, the room size is pretty good. I would recommend my friends to choose this hotel.

We stayed overnight to catch an early flight. I love the hotel, the service was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Our room was clean. We will stay here again next time we travel to Vancouver.

"Clean, inexpensive, and close to YVR"
Our room was small by North American standards, but it was clean and comfortable. The hotel has a free shuttle service to/from the airport, and it's also a short drive or SkyTrain away. Restaurants and other amenities are nearby.
"The Hotel In Vancouver -Good EXCEPT!"
February 24th / 2012 - My wife and I found that the rates were fair and the hotel was clean and well organized.The night was going great until we went to bed.It was a VERY windy night and it started howling through the A/C very late at night.And because we were in a room on the 5th floor the cold howling wind started coming into the room I think harder […] than the people on the 1st floor thought it might be.My wife and I woke up about 2:00am and found we were frozen.I am not a person to complain much so I tried to stuff items such as clothes and Suitcases and other items in front of the super high air flow coming through the A/C. It did not work very well.Being too tired and frustrated to call anybody or try to find the heater we finally just huddled under the blankets and tried to stay warm and go to sleep because we were exhausted from the days activities and had to get up early. I am not sure how often this happens but my suggestion is to have a very simple cover placed over the inside part of the A/C so you can stop the wind flow from coming in when it is not needed. Sorry to complain but that made that night and the next day of travel back to Winnipeg very uncomfortable. Read more

Hi! Everything was very quiet and comfy. The staff was very friendly and efficient at processing our request. The fresh fruit was appreciated at the front desk as well as the complementary snack basket in our room. Our flight arrived at midnight from Honolulu, so we were ready for supper! We were pleased to find that Moxie's was downstairs and open […] til 2am. The room was very comfortable and it's well priced. The only suggestion we have is regarding the lay out. It didn't allow for opening suitcases, unless you use the bed. We had 2 suitcases and 2 carry-on. Had to lay the suitcases in the path of the doorway to open them up and access our things. "Pit Stop"
Hotel was affordable, clean and the bed comfortable (not lumpy) the front desk was helpful with any inquiries. Was close to skytrain or bus if needed. The shuttle to the airport was included with the room and runs at a variety of times.
Loved the free shuttle to the airport and the free parking, and the staff were very friendly, however our room smelled of urine and was in major need of updating.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The front desk attandant was fantastic very efficient and friendly even thought to have housekeeping bring us extra towels to our room. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and detailed in their cleaning and we found the room to be extreamly neat and well maintained. "Home from Mexico"
THe hotel staff were extremely helpfull on checkin as the flight was late arriving it was after midnight by the time we got to hotel. While checkin was fast he also advised us we could sleep in and not checkout till 1300 the next day if we wished.

We had an overnight layover, so we stayed at the Sandman. Everything was great. There were restaurants and a Timmy's within walking distance. The shuttle runs on a perfect schedule.
