Architecturally Mahon is a mix of styles, its narrow streets and little squares well worth exploring. On the waterfront, restaurants serve the best island seafood while catamarans and glass-bottom boats ply pleasure cruises. Above, the Xoriguer gin distillery (open to visitors) is one of several reminders of British 18th-century colonialism.

I stayed at the Barcelo Hamilton for 5 nights in September. The single room I was allocated was very basic... a single bed, a bedside table, a small table with a TV on and a half length wardrobe. The room overlooked the bay, which was nice, but it also overlooked the terrace where the evening entertainment took place, so was very noisy until 11.30pm. The hotel itself was clean, but a little "tired" in decor, and the stair carpet was worn. The buffet breakfast was good and varied, but the evening buffet was only average. I would imagine that those staying 14 days would find it a bit monotonous after a while. The desserts in particular were very poor. Generally the staff were attentive, but there were not enough bar staff or dining room staff in evidence. Generally speaking, this hotel was just about worth its 3 stars, and for the price you pay, is reasonably satisfactory.

We had a week on h/b and then upgraded to a/i. The Hotel staff were very good across the board. The hotel location was excellent, entertainment every night and well attended by the locals which was not a problem.Food very good with some dishes prepared on request, including the bacon and eggs for breakfast.A lovely short walk from outside the hotel along the prom a of Es Castell and fantastic views of the Cruise Liners coming and going from Mahon. Also a smashing small Tapas bar within 5 minutes walk towards the former parade ground, used extensively by locals and expats, nice atmosphere and wonderful tapas. We thoroughly enjoyed our hotel and the trip.

Fine hotel placed just in front of the water. Nice quiet hotel only a few steps away from a lot of restaurants on the harbour quay (small fishing and private small boats). Easy transportation to Mao with bus, station about five minutes easy walk from the hotel.
