The front desk personnel were wonderful. If you go make sure you get to deal with Mai - she is the absolute best. Even Christmas morning when she delivered our continential breakfast she was cheerful and upbeat. Couldn't have been easy leaving her husband and two daughters at home.

Hotel is very clean although it needs a bit of upkeep, beds are comfy, Air Conditioning works great, fridge is convenient. Shower floors are pebble so not so comfy on your feet (wore my flip flops in there to help) and the water pressure is just ample. The Vista Del Mar has been around for a while and shows its age, particularly the bathrooms. The rooms could use a little more lighting and furniture, but everything is clean and well kept, the beds are comfortable, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. And having complimentary coffee and rolls delivered to your room in the morning is quite nice. […] The hotel is situated across the street from the ocean, and the rooms in the front have sizable balconies with unobstructed ocean views. There's a ground-level shopping plaza that begins at the hotel's front door and extends to beyond the back side of the hotel, and attracts plenty of shoppers when cruise ships are in port. The sounds of shoppers and traffic from the street may annoy some, but I found that it added to the old-world charm of the place, and didn't interfere with my comfort. It's within walking distance of restaurants and shopping, and the dive boat picks you up from the pier that's a 2 minute walk away. The oceanview rooms have huge balconies and is located close to many local restaurants and shopping. The rooms are in need of repair--walls, sink. Hopeful this will be addressed soon. The small fridge is another plus. You will need a car to hit the beach clubs and parking is around the block for 8.00 per day. Good spot for independent traveler.

I wanted a hotel with a pool in town and close to the piers where dive boats depart from. Vista del Mar perfectly fit the criteria. The dive shop I used, Aldora, the best in Cozumel (Mexico's president also dives with Aldora), is a block away...roll out of bed, walk a couple hundred yards, and off you go. It's so convenient to everywhere and everything...including […] the Mega supermarket a few blocks away. I walked into the town center twice every day for dinner or to enjoy the evening at the town square. Even though the hotel is on the main street, it was quiet in my second floor room...the patio doors filter out most of the street sounds, and the air conditioner takes care of the rest. I like it cold, too, and had no trouble getting it down to 15 C. The staff were pleasant, addressing me by name throughout my stay, and we're genuinely looking out to make sure I was enjoying my stay. There really isn't a first floor to the hotel...that level is home to a variety of craft vendors and a pool bar...very unique. So during the day, there are abundant opportunities for people watching as the cruise ship passengers mill about. Some may not like that vibrancy. I do. Great place. Will be back! Read more

I came to Cozumel just to scuba dive and this hotel was the perfect location. Surrounded by several different dive shops it was ideal location to pick who I was going to dive with in the morning. Within several blocks of the main square in town, you can walk to every where you need to go and had limitless choice of little restaurants to choose from […] for meals. They do keep the rooms clean, but between the terrible bed and the noise we didn't sleep the three nights we stayed there. I stayed at the Hotel Vista Del Mar because of all the 4-5 star ratings, but I would have to disagree with these ratings. first, the good things about the hotel: location, view, and staff was friendly. Now the not so good things: The hotel is old and needs updating. The bathroom was old and was in need of some serious updating. Also, the door frame […] and shower rod were too low for a taller person and you have to remember to duck your head or you will hit the top of your head. The biggest problem I had with the hotel was the A/C. It was hot in the room and the wall unit did not work very well. The unit has a control on it so you can only lower it to a certain temperature. The unit only had a small part that actually blew out air. Also, when you left for the day the maid would turn the A/C off ;so, when you returned to the room it was very hot and would take forever to cool it down to where it was fairly comfortable. Another issue was the king bed was a queen bed turned longways.. big negative. Also, the cleaning lady did not do a good job of cleaning. I walked along the floor one time with my bare feet and they were black on the bottoms. Also, the only way the maid would clean your sheets if you took them off the bed and bunched them up at the end of the bed. If you left them on the bed like normal whe would not wash them. Also, at times we had to request new towels. The breakfast that they claim to bring to your room at a time you give them was only delivered half of the time. This hotel does many things too cut costs, and when you combine them all together you realize it is better to stay at another hotel. The Casa Cozumel or Plaza Cozumel Hotel right next door is a much better choice than the Vista Del Mar. We talked to the manager and it has elevators, buffet breakfast, free parking for your car rental, central air, security boxes, newer hotel, beds correct size, and it is just a much better hotel for just slightly more cost. By the pool, they set up food, wine, champagne and juice and it was wonderful to gather with and meet the other guests. First off I must say, we didn't visit Coz for snorkling or scuba. We just wanted to relax, eat well and explore San Miguel. The hotel is in a great location with very friendly staff. Be sure to get the ocean view, it's worth it. The amenities are a little older, but the hotel is very quaint. We wanted to be in the city, but also be able to hang out at the pool since there's no real beach in walking distance. They did tell us they had another pool we could use, but this pool was outside on the street along a plaza full of vendors and tourists. There was no privacy what so ever and they're weren't even chairs to lounge in. So i was truly bummed. We even considered booking another hotel, but didnt want to waste the money we already paid. I wish they would have offered to pay our cab fare to the beach club we went to the following day to enjoy the beach and their pool. Again, the staff was great, so if the pool had been working there wouldnt have been a problem. Anything we needed, like ice or a corkscrew, they were always willing to help. One other point, they don't have an elevator which was not an issue for us since my wonderful boyfriend carried both of our suitcases up the 2 flights to the lobby, but it could be for some. On my next visit to Coz I would try an all inclusive and just visit town for the day, since there's limited night life anyhow. Read more
