Room was very comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Lots of fresh fruit and choices of hot or cold items. The only reason I stayed here was because of the proximity to the airport and the free shuttle. But I enjoyed my one night there very much.

The hotel offers a lot of nice amenities - the free calls to the USA were a nice perk to check in with family back home, the free happy hour is always a plus, the swimming pool and hottub were very nice, the free airport shuttle was excellent, and the room was comfortable. The neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired but for a quick one night stay - it was perfectly fine! We found an excellent Chinese restaurant within a few minutes walk (random, I know) but the food was amazing. The Denny's free breakfast in the morning was a nice way to start the day before heading out of San Jose. I would recommend this hotel for a quick stay. All the right amenities and nice service. I wouldn't stay here for an extended stay unless you have a car to visit other areas.

This was my 2nd time staying at the B.W. Downtown and I was there on New year's eve 2012 and also back in August. The staff is pleasant, the hotel is clean, there is free internet and international calls. There is a Gray line tour office on site and the guy who runs it is extremely helpful. He set up a day trip for me to play golf at la Iguana golf course on the coast. For the price of the rooms it can't be beat. You are only 15min from the airport. The money you save here can be better used exploring the city and country.

About 25 km (15 mi) southeast of San Jose, Cartago rests 4,930 feet above sea level, at the base of the Irazu Volcano.
