"Times Square Nugget"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed for a week and were glad to find a hotel right in the heart of Times Square. The service was definitely top notch! The front desk was courteous and the concierge was very helpful, recommending great shows and restaurants. Our room was nice. It could've been a little larger. But the bathroom was a good size and the size of the TV's and the fact that they played HD was a bonus. Also, the bed was quite comfortable. The cleaning staff did a fine job of keeping up the room. I'll definitely recommend this hotel to others.
"Consistency. You can depend on it."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Finding a "GOOD THING" these days can get harder and harder. For this reason when you come across a 'good thing" it is priceless. One of the most recent "good things " that I have come across is the PARAMOUNT hotel in Times Square. The first thing that I leave the hotel impressed by is the professionalism and commitment that is demonstrated by the staff. Starting with the front desk where I was checked in by Catherine and continuing until the driver which I received at the hotel hands me my luggage at the airport. Catherine followed the details of my visit until the moment I checked out. The only dislike that I had which eventually i got over was the view of the alley where the boiler or some loud machine was placed. I know that from now on I will request a room that faces anywhere but there. If you are going to New York and plan on taking in Broadway there could not be a more perfect location. I love this hotel so much I find myself wanting to travel to NYC more. I cannot wait until my next visit to the PARAMOUNT which I hope will be in the next few weeks.
"Affordable Quickie in NY"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.
""Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.
"Nice hotel in the theatre district"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Very nice hotel in the theatre district. Friendly and helpful staff. Basic room accomodations but very clean. Would recommend.

Maybe 3 Star certainly not a 5 Star. Booked a King Room moved to a room with a large (usless kitchen) and dble bed. Could not get both room keys to work. After the 2nd set we made do with 1 key for the room. Silly elevator set up, you punch in your floor before entering the elevator. Once inside the elevator pushing the floor button is useless. We rode […] up with a few people who did not understand the system and were forced to ride up to our floor and then down. Very doubtful I would re-book this hotel in the future Read more
"Friendly Staff and nice rooms"
The rooms are nice and the bathroom is very nice. The rooms are not huge but you are in New York so keep that in mind. The staff was always friendly and helpful.
"Will come back for sure"
The staff were awesome. We got there at 9 in the morning, they held our bags and checked us in as soon as they had rooms ready. There were many little things the front desk did that just helped out - above and beyond the usual. Will not even look when i return to NY.
We will stay here again - your bar/restaurant was very nice and our room/bed was very comfy. Only prob was it was tough to get a cab but if you walk a couple of blocks in either direction, you can get cabs. All in all, definitely a great place to stay in the city
"Great Value in Mid-Town"
If you are looking for a reasonable hotel in mid-town Manhattan with a well appointed, larger than usual room size, The Alex is a great choice. Within a few blocks of Grand Central Station (where the airport shuttles stop), it is easy walking distance to business addresses on 5th, Madison, Park, Lex and Third, anywhere between 42nd and 59th. The staff […] was very friendly and helpful as well. Read more

"Great Value"
If you are over staying in central Midtown, this Midtown East hotel is quite an excellent value. Our room was twice the size of a typical central Midtown hotel and was far quieter. The Comfort Diner across the street is Zagat rated and priced for locals. Our walks to the theater and BB King's were pleasant.
"Excellent Stay"
I typically stay in Soho or Time Square area when I visit the city but this time I wanted to be away from most of that hustle and bustle. I've always liked the East Side for dining, and thought about staying their. Finding the Hotel Alex was a perfect match for what I was looking for. I spent a great romantic weekend with a new girlfriend, who is from […] the land of big everything, Texas. She enjoyed being away from Time Square and all that, but it was still close and easy to get to Broadway. We were upgraded from a regular room to a studio suite at check in without requesting it. It had a full kitchen that was small but truly had everything you could need including a full sized built-in refrigerator. Of course this was in late Scandanavian design fashion which we loved. Room was good size for New York, no complaints from her, and nicely appointed. It was very clean. We recommend going to Ali Baba, a Turkish restaurant near by, and seeing Ceda at the bar. Fridays are hot there. I digress. Hotel Alex is Great. Nice bar lounge on the premises too. Read more

"Disappointed!!"
First, it was very far from Times Square, but that's my fault, as I had a map upon selection No ice machines on the floors - had to go to front desk. Other rooms were extremely loud and after complaining, NOTHING was done. Doorman didn't assist with heavy doors or taxis. Inadequate towels. radio would turn on and off AFTER being replaced. TV remote […] barely worked. I would not stay here again for a 4-day trip to NYC. The room itself was good. Read more
"No Desk"
Overall, nice contemporary room. Decent size for NY rooms. However, I came for business and no desk! There was a mini pull out desk that I figured out but nowhere to sit. No desk chair! I asked the front desk for a chair, and they said that this was the first time they ever received such a request. Really? They could only find a beat up chair from the […] staff break room. Also, there is no coffee machine or coffee. If you call the front desk, they can send a brand new full-size coffee machine but no coffee. Finally, when I first stepped into the bathroom it wasn't completely clean. The sink and faucet were nasty and there was no soap. Read more
"Not a great place to work, great place to workout"
Rooms basically had no desks. They had a laptop stand for bedside working. Workout room was above average.

"Stayed here on Valentines Day - had a GREAT TIME"
We stayed here for only 1 night. The hotel is atypical - small hall ways - gives it more of an apartment feel, than a hotel. Small lobby, contributes. The rooms are standard for New York in size, but very elegantly decorated. Would highly recommend this hotel for a quick stay.
"The Alex"
Swanky! Upgraded to a studio, love to have this as a pied a terre in Manhattan. Most impressed with the design of the wall units. Prompt room service and comfy bed. Can't wait to return.
"Hard act to follow ..."
Never stayed on the East side but thought we'd give it a try. After housekeeping not having our room ready and being asked to sit in the lobby for a few minutes we then were upgraded for our inconvenience of waiting 30 minutes to a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite on the 27th floor so it's hard to truly give this hotel a review as we were BLESSED with a full […] suite. I will say that the lady at the front desk definitely knew her customer service as she immediately apologized for forgetting we were there and upgraded us to a fabulous suite! Hats off to The Alex Hotel ... hate to go back to a regular room next visit though! Read more

"Excellent!"
I had a wonderful stay. Bill greeted me at the front desk. He was so sweet. He gave me a room on the 10th floor with a beautiful view of the Chrysler building. He was very professional ! The room was beautiful and clean. Bathroom was very nice. There are 3 TVs in the room. Very spacious! The only downside was around past nine pm, the cleaning came […] in the room and tried getting in the bathroom. No idea why she came in but she ran out when she saw us. It was funny at the same time scary. Read more
"Hotel Alex"
The Hotel is convenient, cute, has a nice, small bar. Had several issues with my room the first night: the heat was left on 88 degrees (!!) and the mini fridge was over stocked and unclosed, so everything was warm. The staff did replace the fridge so when i returned from dinner there were cold waters, a key requirement. The next morning there was a […] problem with the shower mechanics and most of the water would not go to the overhead. It took some convincing at the front desk to believe me but it was fixed by lunch time. Read more
"Xmas b-day"
O took my wife here fir her birthday which is Christmas they upgraded our room and the service was great. Had a drink at the bar and ended up making a friend who is from Austria. Lots of Europeans stay here. I would recommend this hotel and I would stay there again.

"Classy and Convenient"
This was a fantastic stay. The rooms were comfortable, clean and large (esp for NYC). The hotel was a five block walk from Grand Central Station - and well worth the stay, even if it had been much farther. And, the Comfort Diner across the street has great food! A wondeful place and value!
"good hotel, peaceful location"
New York is known as the city that never sleeps but when you're traveling it's refreshing to walk outside your hotel door and feel like you're in a quiet residential neighborhood while still being a short cab ride away from all the hustle and bustle. That's the Alex. Very Modern hotel in a great neighborhood. Local pizza place, drug store, even a bar […] next door to watch the games. Downside the staff didn't seem overly excited to please customers. But this could just be the nature of the city. They weren't bad by any stretch but in the hotel business an accomodating staff usually makes a bad hotel good and a good hotel great! I'd reccomend it and stay again. Read more
"Clean, upbeat, with good service"
Rooms were small which was to be expected in Manhattan, and looked like IKEA had a garage sale, but were very clean and comfortable for a 3 day trip. Condition of the hotel was very good, rooms were clean, and common areas were very nice, modern and upbeat. Neighborhood was clean and perfect distance from the tourists in midtown to the UN building as […] well. I would reccomend this hotel. Read more

"Great hotel"
Great hotel, very big room for hotel in New York. Friendly staff and great location. Will definitely stay again. great interior design.
"The Alex Hotel, NYC"
Stayed for 2 nights Nov/Dec 2011 - location good, walking distance to all Midtown attractions. Moved to bigger room on 2nd night as son was coming to stay at no extra charge. Service from all staff was excellent. Would definitely stay again - room size good and beds v.comfortable ( mini bar prices extortionate but that was to be expected)
"Great Location, Warm & Friendly Staff!"
Great Location, Warm & Friendly Staff!
"Great hotel with a very friendly staff"
I made my reservation online at 8pm on a Friday, 6 hours before I arrived. When I got into the hotel at 1am I asked if I could have a late checkout as I was fairly jet lagged. I was told that I would have to call the manager in the morning. Upon entering the standard king room I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room as well as how well it […] was furnished, albeit somewhat dated. In the morning I called the manager and asked to move my checkout time to 2pm and she said it would not be a problem. When I checked out at 2:20 the front desk staff was very polite and even offered to hold my bags while I went to my meeting. Overall I was very pleased with both the hotel and the staff and would be very happy to stay at The Alex again. Read more

"Very satisfied"
Very helpful, with wheelchair accessibility, baggage assistance, kindness, etc.
"Great service, a little pricey"
The hospitality at this hotel was outstanding. The room was clean, and simple, and for a NYC hotel room, fairly large. However, the view out the window was of the back of another building, and the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor, which required some mopping with the hotel towels. The room was fairly nice, sans the leaky shower, and the hotel […] staff was very helpful and very friendly. The room was clean, and large, but not so updated (i.e., the furniture was falling apart a bit, the shower not so sturdy), and the location not so great. For the same price, one could stay in a comparable or newer room, in a better neighborhood. Read more
Very poor service I asked twice for a robe to be put in the room but it never turned up although I was promised it would be sent up immediately There were one or two other other annoying things as well
"Alex Hotel - not a good experience"
I had two confirmed rooms at the Alex and when i checked in at 6pm at night the rooms were not available and they told me they couldn't give me two rooms and put myself and a business partner into a room that had two bedroom areas. Only 1 bath, no tv in the second room and the whole things smelt of smoke and had cigarette burns in the carpets, etc... […] I asked for and paid for two rooms and expected to get at least the value and accommodations of two rooms. I talked to the manager the next morning on checkout and he looked up and saw that i had two confirmed rooms. he was going to figure out what happened and call me back and of course he never did. I would not stay at this hotel again for either the service issue or the hotel room overall condition. This is not what i would ever consider a 4 star hotel. Read more
"Awesome!"
My name is Alex. The hotel had my name on everything in the room. I was very pleased with how they personalized their service for me.
"Good location and OK standard, bad staff"
The location was splendid, and the hotel was nice, but it was not a four star hotel for sure. The rooms needed some maintinence, things where broke (e.g. the shower , the watertaps in the bathroom, lamps..). Also DO NOT eat the breakfast at the hotel!! We had breakfast one morning and the waiter, "Azzis", was the gave the most terribel service ever: […] He was rude to us, he questioned what we ordered (I still ask myself how he had the stomach to advice me what I should do, even not asking), he forgot our order - and when he realized he had missed to give it to the kitchen he was, if possible even more rude. The barpersonell on the evenings where very good and professional, but with the lobby people not even open the door for us when standing right by it and looking at us coming with big shoppingbags and that aweful breakfast experience leads me to advice you to get another hotel unless you get this one really cheap.. "Great east side location"
We came to the hotel from Grand Central Station and the walk was about 5- 10 minutes. Perfect location. The room was very comfortable. However, certain features of the hotel were strange. The clock is hidden under the top of the bedside table. It was impossible to set the alarm. The sink was elongated (far from the mirror) and so using the mirror to […] shave or put on makeup was difficult. There was a portable mirror that could be carried into the bathroom but the counter space was narrow. The staff was very accommodating. Read more
"5 Blocks from time square!!!"
Beuatiful hotel! Everyone was polite! Love it! 5 blocks from timesquare. Plus valet parking availible!
Great Hotel
"comfortable for one"
Friendly service, bathroom small and not much counter space. good for one person stay. great for business travel.
"great staff but not in the restaurant"
We stayed here over Hurricane Irene weekend and the staff worked extra duty to accommodate us. It was seamless from our perspective. We also got an upgrade before we arrived - from a lower level small dark room with a horrible view to a light filled 2oth floor room with a view of the Chrysler bldg. and a kitchenette. BUT breakfast was not a great experience […] - waiter we had was basically inadequate and the food pretty pricey. Dinner was better, however. Read more
"Nice, but strange service"
Hotel is nice. The lobby is small. The area is safe, but completely dead at night, with only a 24-hour CVS nearby. The service was decent. I tried to check-in a few hours early, and they kept telling me to check after another hour. I ended up calling/coming in 3 times, and then just giving up and going out to dinner. I came back at 5, an hour after […] the official check-in, and my room still wasn't ready, and the desk staff acted very put upon to find a room for me. Very odd. When I first came in, they offered to take my bag while I waited, but then I just stood there for a few minutes holding my bag while the staff ignored me. Very weird. Also requested extra towels and it took an hour for them to arrive. The bellman outside the hotel were really nice though, and helped us get two cabs in the rain. The room was nice, simple modern decor, clean. There was no view (just some machinery on the roof), but it didn't really care. Hotel is worth it if you can get a deal, or if you're staying in one of the long term suites. Not worth the standard rates unless you're a naive tourist. Read more
"Great Midtown Location"
Really loved the hotel and especially the view from the 29th floor! Great hospitality, including the drink reception on the evening that we arrived.
"Alex hotel NYC"
Went to NYC this year and decided to stay at a non chain hotel. This place was great, upgraded our room for no reason when we checked in. Very nice, clean modern room. TV in the bathroom too! It is a narrow hotel so every floor only has about 6 rooms, nice though right when you get off the elevator your room is right there. Would recommend this hotel […] to anyone. Read more

"Solid Hotel - Small Rooms"
It all depends on what you prefer in your hotel. in NY, in this price range, you can get a hotel that had very nice amenities, very high-quality furniture, etc or you can get a little more space. The Alex is normally a little bit out of my price range but this time a special got me in the door. I like the place, the people are nice and the neighborhood […] is decent if you are working in midtown or want to be near Grand Central. The rooms at the base level are small and compact but everything in the room is very high quality. I personally would prefer a little more space and would take the hit on the quality. The Ace hotel is more my speed. Read more
"Nice hotel"
I enjoyed staying here - the service was very good and the hotel had a nice feel to it. The room was quiet, which was a plus! We had a studio and it was well equipped. The decor is a little old but retro :) A little far to walk to the subway, especially in rain, but there are nice views from the hotel and some cute restaurants close by.
