"comfortable and convenient"
This hotel has quirky furnishings and a complete kitchen but no coffee maker or clock. Fee for wireless access is high. Great location in midtown with convenient access to bus routes but subway is blocks away. Quiet, clean and with a very courteous and helpful staff. I would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel room was older, but functional. Had a one bedroom with a full kitchen which was nice. Service was excellent from front desk to bellman/elevator attends at to housekeeping. I would like to see some upgrades to make the rooms more modern, but would definitely stay again regardless.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location & Service, but average overall."
I booked my hotel off the fact that it was a Wyndham hotel and the location. Very convenient and the service was exceptional but I wouldn't say I was truly impressed with the amenities. Technology is slightly dated and worn, furniture was definitely worn, and i had to request basic things like washcloths and a comforter. I personally prefer more modern […] looks so I will probably opt out of another stay here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great room for the price!"
Yes, this place is a little dated, but we liked it. The room was large (2 double beds) and in a great location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Still waiting for the charge to my account for a one night stay to be removed. The room was prepaid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel has a convienient midtown location near Grand Central Station. But that is the only thing it has going for it. The hotel was designed to be fairly upscale, but looks like owners have decided to run it into the ground. There was hair and mold in the bathtub, the towels are the size of a large napkin, the carpet stained, the card key didn't […] work. This hotel wasn't horrible, but it wasn't nice. I paid about $280 - got a decent nights sleep and made to to the subway easily, but I wouldn't say it was worth the money. You can do better. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great stay for the 4th of July !!! Wonderful service !!!! Would easily stay there again!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I would never recommend this hotel"
Very dark cluttered reception area. Dismissive "front desk" staff. When booking my room, I requested a "late check out" the following day if available? Three times I made enquiries about this request after checking in - only to be told "I will get back to you". Eventually I was told that if I was happy to pay more I could check out at 1.30 pm!!! Room […] was grubby. The bedside lamp was electrically very unsound. When you touch the cord, the light would flicker on and off - fire hazard I would suggest! I would rate this hotel 2.5 star. Overall, I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. There are too many others to choose from in New York City. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Solid choice for value business hotel in midtown"
Solid hotel for business travel. Room is tasteful and clean and hotel is well situated in midtown. Not a lot of frills but overall a nice value. Given the value orientation, appeared to be a lot of European summer tourists, which was fine.Genuine Expedia guest review
Good location, Nice sized room. The stand up shower however was awful, the pressure would increase and the nozzle would swing left and right and literally create puddles on the floor that were dangerousGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value in Midtown East"
I used to stay here when it used to be The Alex and was a little concerned when they got bought by Wyndham a few months ago. So far, they haven't changed much other than the toiletries. This hotel is simple, a good size, and a great value for money if you plan to be mostly on the east side. The wi-fi was sometimes a bit slow which was annoying considering […] you have to pay for it. "Great location and great accommodations"
It was a great experience. The staff was able to accommodate with an upgradeGenuine Expedia guest review
Fantastic location close to nice restaurants, some shopping and most importantly for me, close enough to the business district that I could walk to my appts and/or walk over to Grand Central to take the train. Very pleasant and helpful staff, fresh creatively prepared food, comfortable firm bed, spacious room and bathroom, quiet. Furniture was rather […] old but the value for this hotel more than made up for the dated aspect of the hotel. Easy ability to get a taxi. I will return to this wonderful hotel. Location Great! 1 block from Grand Central. Very large room with kitchen. No coffee maker, no ice! Service was not good at the hotel. Had to call down to the front desk to have them unlock room safe so that i could use it, it took them almost 2 hours! Called for Ice since they had no ice machines and that took forwever also! Ordered a cup a coffee and […] 2 waters room service and that cost almost $50.00! Hotel itself very nice.Everything was overpriced and they need better service! "3, but definitely not 4 stars"

"Another quick trip to the Bid Apple for Biz"
While supposedly rated a 4 star hotel, the Wyndham 45 (aka The Alex) is sort of a retread of the same hotel. Great front desk, bell and valet service, however the facility needs an update. The rooms are a bit dated and at times cramped - having had more than one occasion to stay at this property. That said, a great price and a great room - upgraded […] to a suite! "Going to NYC for an overnight"
I thought the room was very roomy. Much more room than any other hotel I've been in in NYC. It looked dated and some of the shelving in the bathroom was not in the proper place. The knob to get the shower going was very, very tight and my friend was unable to pull it out buy herself. If she was alone she wouldn't have been able to take a shower. It […] was a little noisy bc of a party on the same floor and an Irish bar right outside the hotel but we were very tired and were able to get to sleep. If we wanted to relax for a bit it would have been annoying. Overall I wouldn't rate the hotel a 4.5. I would give it a 3. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Spacious room, friendly staff"
The room was very spacious, and much bigger than what I would expect in New York. The room had plenty of storage space and comfortable bed and furniture, but the furniture was dated and some of it seem to be in need of repair. When we had an issue, the staff took care of it very quickly and were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is conveniently located […] close to Grand Central station. "Great staff, good location, in transition..."
Recently joined the Wyndham org and in transition. Staff was wonderful, restaurant/bar great food & drink. Our room was once very stylish, European 'moderne' - everything built-in - now a touch threadbare. Great linens and bed. Our room was like a suite, separate sleeping quarters, 3 TV's - but living room one didn't work. GREAT VIEWS if you have the […] right room. Don't take a room on the side overlooking the pub next door (The Perfect Pint) - it has a 2-story outdoor deck bar and the noise goes on til the wee hours. In addition, all of the pub's air handling equipment is right there (below us 1 floor, we were in room 707) so there's the noise and ugliness of that day & night. We were lucky when it rained, then no one was in the deck bar, but there were workmen (day & night) working on the roof air equipment. I actually thought someone was trying to seal tools or something one night - a guy with a flashlight banging on stuff at midnight, but it turned out there was something not working, finally 2 add'l men showed up and solved the problem. This hotel has a lot of good features and I'm sure they will have it back to it's original hip vibe soon. Again, the staff makes up for a lot. Note: there is no coffee service in the room and minimal coffee & bagels to go from the restaurant in the AM.($18 for 1 coffee & 2 bagels to go.) there's a little market a few doors down on the corner with much better variety & $. The hotel could afford to put out a urn of coffee in the morning. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Where's the ice?"
For all you who love refrigerators in your hotel room, you must book here at the Wyndham 45. I was looking in the hallways for the ice machine, none to be found. Then I thought I'll get it later. I proceeded to open the refrigerator, yes the Sub-Zero frig....then in the freezer drawer, yes, ice! Everything is great here, the staff, the restaurant and […] the room. The only thing I could say is the furniture in the room could use an overhaul, a little shaky chairs and wobbly coffee table and not a great desk to work. However, if you like to cook, its a great room with a stove, microwave and utensils. Probably about a 35 minute walk to Central Park which is great and only 5 minutes to 5th Ave, where you can then trek all the shops and Rockefeller area and for NY the rates seem very reasonable. "Not 4 stars"
Hotel is in need of refurbishment and does not represent a 4.5 star hotel. Upon arriving back from dinner, we discovered the shower was not working. The hotel promptly sent a maintenance worker, but it took him some time and he had to leave and come back for a part. We also discovered at this time that the TV was not working. He was able to repair that […] as well. At 9:00 pm, you don't want to be dealing with those types of issues. Room layout was uncomfortable. For example, you can't watch the TV from the couch in the sitting area. You must sit at the dining table. Positives: We were pleasantly upgraded at a reasonable rate. Room was quite - no view, but quiet. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Hotel changed names from the time of booking and our arrival. that was confusing. the venue could use refreshing and new rugs. The bathroom needs updating. We had difficulty operating the toilet flush and turning on the shower. Elevator out of order. Personnel was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very Good Stay"
Nice stay... The room was spacious with a microwave, Kitchenette, stove, refrigerator etc. especially as far as NYC goes. A nice alternative especially for an extended stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Rooms on the smaller side but nice...don't expect a grand hotel more boutique feel and look. Small rooms as compared to a national standard but not for mid-town Manhattan. Close to Grand Central with an average price point. Clean and friendly...Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great concept but poor execution"
I booked at the Alex because it was one of the few hotels I found in NYC to offer an apartment type accomodation. With 2 children frequently accompanying my husband and I on trips we find the "residential" type accomodation quite convenient and always seek it out when traveling. The room was spacious by NYC standards with 2 full separate bedrooms and […] w full baths. The combo living/dining/kitchen was small but adequate. Now here is where it falls apart. To say the room and furnishings were shabby would be a compliment. The little vinyl upholstered sofa was not only uncomfortable but looked like someone's Great Dane had tried digging through the cushions. The pillows and chair were stained and nasty. The little kitchen had a nice apartment size refridgerator, dishwasher, electric stovetop and microwave all fine except no coffeemaker! The carpets were stained and looked dirty and worst of all the upholstered headboard in the master bedroom looked like it had something splattered on it. This is not a 4 star hotel...not even close...I'd give it 2.5 to 3 at best. On the upside the location is great and the staff were warm and accomodating from the doorman, to the front desk, the bellman and the housekeeper all very good. it's a shame that the room was is such a state of disrepair. The morning we checked out we discovered that there was a leak in the ceiling next to the hall closet that appeared to be coming from an overhead pipe. Luckily we were leaving that morning. "Not as advertised"
This was a perfectly fine hotel but by no means luxury. The staff was very nice. The hotel was clean. But the bathroom was the size of a closet, furniture was worn and many amenities were missing. Luxury hotels are spacious and come as advertised. It suited our needs, but that was it. Next time we'll stay somewhere else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel overbooked and sent me to the Manhattan on Times Square hotel. Made me wait at the bar for 20 minutes before telling me. I had 6:30 reservation at Tao which I didn't make because they took too long, then sent me out to find a cab at 5:40. I had to walk, which on a hot, humid day, with an overnight bag, was very uncfortable. The new hotel was […] horrible - dirty, loud and out of the way. They did comp the room, but that was of little consolation to me. The only reason I chose this hotel was to stay at the same place as coworkers. Terrible experience. "Good location;expensive for the value received"
At arrival, we were told we couldn't be accommodated (no reason given).and would pay for the night(we of course had prepaid). After vigorously complaining,we were provided a room matching what we had reserved. The room was small with old, worn furniture and an air conditioner that failed to function(other than the fan). The room temperature reached 80 degrees […] F and it was very difficult to sleep. In addition the TV did not work ,a lamp did not light, etc. The room rate for this poor room was very excessive, to put it mildly. "Not a 4-star"
Location was great, only a few blocks from Grand Central, however it was lacking some of the amenities one would expect from a 4-star. No coffee maker in room, for instance. Also, thermostat/fan was broken, so my room was very warm. L'Occitane products are mentioned on website, however they were swapped out with Philosophy and were not replenished after […] first night. Lots of places to pick up a bite to eat in the area (there's a 24 hour deli on the corner.) A good place to sleep, but not luxurious by any means. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice Boutique Hotel"
The rooms are small but comfortable. The bed must have been replaced with a smaller bed because the built-in end table was 18 inches from the edge of the bed - therefore the built-in reading light was useless. good linens and pillows.
