Response by The Reef Coco Beach Resort - All Inclusive Dear Guest, We appreciate your comments and we are glad you could enjoy our staff's attention as well as our restaurants' menu. We look forward welcoming you once again at The Reef Coco Beach. Kind regards, The Management
The hotel was clean which I loved. It would be great if they could offer more TV channels for the kids especially since most families unwind in the evening. The food was good but there could be more of a variety. The only downside is I felt the need to make a quick dollar off of their clients whether it would making a call to an activity which is through […] their hotel or to ask and speak to a rep - I think it is the idea that many people have that, when you live out of the country you have all this money which is not the case at all. "My First Trip To Playa Del Carmen"
First solo trip, let alone oversea, was quite nervous. Not knowing what to expect besides the hotel was all inclusive. I did most my research on Trip Advisor, Google and Youtube and decided to choose Coco Reef Bay as my hotel. It was probably the best price for an all inclusive resort. So, after my trip, I can say my experience at Coco Reef was awesome. […] It was everything as I expected and more. The staff was friendly especially the hotel boy, Emmanuel. Also, the bartenders, Milton and Gilberto, were really friendly and cool. I used the hotel travel agency to buy my Coba excursion because they'll pick you up in front of the hotel at 7:20 in the morning. The pools were cleaned and the beach was literally 50 yards from the hotel. There were 3 restaurants and the food was good. There's no dress code for the buffet restaurant but the other two required you to wear business casual and no shorts and no sandals. It's unfortunate to hear other guests having issues with the staff or their room but that could happen at any other resort. Please remember to bring some dollar bills or small pesos for tipping at the bars or at the restuarants. People deserved to be compensated for providing good service. The only thing I didn't know until I got there was that the resort was at the very end of the of the 5th Street but it shouldn't be a problem if you like walking. I definitely will return to Coco Reef Bay next time. Dallas Tourist. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Reef Coco Beach Resort - All Inclusive Dear Joey, It is nice to hear that you had such a nice stay with us. We appreciate you emphasize in your comments the great value the hotel offers like our staff's attention and our restaurants. We look forward to welcoming you once again at The Reef Coco Beach. Kind regards, The Management
This is an excellent hotel. It is small but very comfortable, has an excellent beach, the best beach in the area, the water is very calm and shallow, very nice, the pool is nice too; the food at the buffet restaurant is good, the restaurant has a beautiful view of the beach, the colors of the water are very pretty, turquoise, light blue, dark blue; […] the sand is very smooth and white; the views of the beach are spectacular! We got an ocean front room, it was right on the beach! I loved this hotel. One advice: Do not ask the locals for directions, they will lie to you, they think it is funny to trick tourists; if you ask them how to get to a place, they will send you to the opposite direction. Get a map of the city; the city of Playa del Carmen is small, 5th avenue is fun, there are restaurants and shops, have fun! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Reef Coco Beach Resort - All Inclusive Dear Laura, We appreciate you emphasize in your comments the great value the hotel offers. It is nice to know that you ejoyed our beach as well as our restaurants. We also appreciate your advice about getting a map of the city, which all of our guests can obtain at front desk as well as guest service desk. We are so close to the 5th avenue that a 5 minute safe walk will bring you there. We look forward to welcoming you and your family once again at The Reef Coco Beach. Kind regards, The Management
"Not bad for the money"
This hotel should probably be a 3 star hotel if it wasn't for the Italian restaurant. It is understaffed, thin walls, dated, NO ROOM SERVICE at all, mediocre food, noisy club next door (played one night on sunday out of my one week stay). It was clear to me that the owner has to cut down costs here and there to keep this place profitable. That said, […] the location is nice. The beach has a decent snorkel area, the tacos are amazing and the room A/C works very well. If you've been to other all-inclusives around Cancun and want to be pampered at the hotel all week long, this is not it. You'll need to spend some more for that. If you want a decent place to stay for a week with the family and need a base for going off to a few excursions, this will serve nicely. Don't misunderstand the 5th avenue vicinity part though. It is 20+ min. walk in scorching heat until you see anything interesting. If you know the kind of humid heat here, 20 min is not pleasant at all. It is less than 5 min. by taxi. Plan on spending $5 USD for that. If you've never been to an all-inclusive in Cancun/Playa Del Carmen area before, you should have a great time. went as a couple. not alot of activities & the beach is actually the marina so alot of boats in the water. However the beach is pretty & you can walk along other hotel beaches to avoid the boats.Genuine Expedia guest review
Front desk tried to place us in a room that we had not booked. We had booked a pool front room with a king bed. "Fantastic Value All The Way Around!"
Great week w/ our granddaughters. Victor welcomed us w/smiles and champagne. The girls enjoyed the lobby pond turtles and feeding them in the evening. Omar received us with a prompt early check-in and quiet room. Although we didn't try the Mexican and snack bar restaurants, the buffet is fabulous offering fresh, delicous foods. Always friendly waitstaff […] with very accommodating greeters, Seyla and Carlos. The wide variety of food is well-prepared and fresh at breakfast , lunch, and dinner. We all loved the ambiance, food, and Daniel's service in the Italian restaurant. The drinks are yummy-Refreshing Margaritas, mojitos, cuba libres, and, my favorite, caipirinhas! WOW- don't miss the afternoon flambe coffees in the lobby. Large, clean pool-ample loungers, tables/chairs, towels. Beautiful calm sea beach-soft rosey sand, aqua/deep blue waters-snorkeling(schools of fish/stingrays)-Hotel has life jackets, snorkel equipment-kayaks,etc broken. Claudia, a gem, coordinates the superb kids programs. Many activities for all ages. Demonstating local craftsmen set up in the evening-quality/best prices. Entertainment excellent every night! Our comfortable 2nd floor room overlooked the pool. One evening the air conditioning did leak but was fixed immediately. For the price of the resort, we were happy to pay the $2/day for the safe. "Nice resort overall. Very friendly staff."
Had a oceanfront room and was very nice. Didn't mind the boats in water it actually was very beautiful at sunrise for pictures. Manuel the bell boy was awesome. We really enjoyed our time at the Grand CoCo Bay resort. There was a lot to do and the beach was just a few steps from the pool. The water was so calm, clear and warm. The food was good and the drinks were flowing. The nightly shows were fun and they had activities all day long to keep busy. The excursions we chose were incredible and we lined them […] up through the hotel's travel guide. "Pay more to stay elsewhere!"
Took forever to check in, only one person at front desk. Included pool snacks and dinner at Mexican restaurant were horrible, flavorless, tiny servings (like 3 shrimp in a dinner entree) and service was horrible. Took us two hours to finish dinner and we were so disappointed with the service and quality of food that we jumped in a cab and went into […] town to have dinner elsewhere. Worst thing was that the servers never apologized for the slow service or even acknowledged that we had been sitting there for two ours! Would never stay here nor recommend that anyone else does! If you are looking for an all inclusive resort that is more relaxing and less crowded then this is the right hotel for you. It is right on the beach and only 5 minutes away from the ferry to Cozumel. It is close to Xplor, Xcaret, and Xel Ha, about 10 minutes. Only 45 minutes from Cancun. If you like to shop and get authentic mexican cuisine "5th ave" […] is right down the street. The employees are terrific, and after visiting Playa 15 plus times, I've stayed in SEVERAL of the resorts, and can say that this one needs some upgrades. The facilities are clean, but older. The beds are very hard. The food is plentiful but average. The people we traveled with had a renovated room which was much nicer. Hotel met up to standards, staff did not. Great welcoming, service after made it seem like they had to go out of their way to do their job. "My stay at Grand Coco Bay"
Let's make it short... we did not want to leave!! The staffs was very friendly and always smiling. They are on top with room cleanliness. Many activities to do!Genuine Expedia guest review
Check in Staff was friendly and the location of the hotel is great. That is the extent of the "Pro" list. I will start off by saying we had just come from staying 1 week at the Beach Palace in Cancun which is where we have a membership. LOVE the Palace resorts. We added on 3 days to our trip to stay the last three nights in Playa Del Carmen and found […] Coco Bay during an internet search. I really rely on reviews and I kick myself for not heeding the advise of others who posted negative reviews... I should have known better. Anyway, The food was terrible... I mean terrible. I am not overly picky and I am generally a good sport about less than perfect food however the food at both the standard buffet and the buffet at the "Mexican Show" was not even edible. After giving it a shot a couple times we ended up just going into PDC and eating out so I really dont know how the food at the sit down restaurant is. The drinks were decent but there were no servers around the pool area and you have to fetch your own. Not a huge deal but coming from the Palace where service is impeccable, it was a change. The room was not completely clean and the shower temperature never got warm enough. I will never stay at Coco Bay again. The best food in Playa is at HC de Monterrey by the MEGA store. THE best Arracherra ever! Kicks butt over Coco's Buffet! Spring for the Playacar Palace, you will be glad you spent the extra money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good "all inclusive" for the price"
The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. It is an older motel and they are in the process of painting, doing repairs and were working on this while we were there. We had stayed at the REEF in Playa del Carman a few years back and they have recently purchased this resort so I am sure that they will have it renovated soon. The beach area was not that […] favorable due to the many boats which clouded the view and there was not a lot of beach to sit on and walk on. The food however was impeccable and there was a good variety. We would probably stay there again but may try some other "all inclusive" resorts in the area. For the price, it was a good deal. PROS: Beach front. Close enough to 5th avenue (15-20 min walk/ 5 min cab ride) Delicious food from the Mexican & Italian restaurant located upstairs. Good buffet breakfast & snack bar. The pool and beach wonderful. Rooms need some updating and fixing. Buffet was ok, breakfast was boring day after day same thing. Latin restaurant was amazing, Italian not very good. "Never, Never Again.....Horrific Experience!!!"
I booked 5 months ago yet when we arrived, we were put in a smoky, dirty room (nicotine stains on curtains) and told it was the only one available because they were full. I had requested non-smoking/2 bed room but got 1 bed. We were moved to another room that was much better but still not good quality the next day. Manager was NEVER available to discuss […] the numerous issues we encountered. Booked 2 spa deluxe treatments then when we arrived, were told we couldn't be accomodated as "couple" because we were just friends NOT man/woman gender. The 3 staff who booked us said it was fine and booked it for us 2 days prior. This "inclusive" hotel package was a huge disappointment and altho we will go back to Playa del carmen, never to Grand CocoBay resort....I would never recommend it to anyone. "Pick another hotel."
We have stayed at CoCo Bay 5 times in the last 9 visits to the area. The quality of the hotel has gone down hill since our last visit. I think they have been bought out by another hotel or are being operated by new management. When you ask for something like hand towels, wash cloths etc. you expect them within a certain time frame, not days or 3 phone […] calls later. The quality of the food has dropped significantly. The bad part about the whole trip was we brought down 2 other couples with us and told them how great the hotel was only to be totally disappointed. Next year we will not stay at CoCo Bay. "Great Hotel, Great Price and Great Location"
We have stayed at many all-inclusives, especially in Mexico, and this was one of our favorites for the right price:) The food was very typical for an all inclusive, everything is pretty good and some things will surprise you and be really good and others will let you down. Breakfast highlights were an omelet station and mimosas. Lunch was sometimes […] served on the beach which was nice and there was always nachos, hamburgers, etc available all day besides the main buffet. Dinner had different themes and were generally good. As far as the sit down restaurants they were nothing special, but did not need to make reservations which was nice. The staff was very friendly and nice! Internet was expensive($15/day), but a short walk to town had free options. Our room was near the lobby bar and entertainment room which had buffets some nights, which made for a loud echoey night in the hallway. Had a disco bar which was open til 2am which was a nice option if you wanted to make a big night of it, but was usually pretty dead. Lobby bar was open til midnight with people playing cards and hanging out, but town is very close if looking for more action. The entertainment shows were pretty good for the most part and again pretty typical if you have ever stayed at an all inclusive. Pool was a good atmosphere, plenty of chairs by pool and beach to lay on. We were glad we brought floaties for the pool. Pool bar was fun, with good music. Beach was very nice and a short walk to town. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Complete budget All-inclusive."
We were invited by a group of my husband's friends and we got a great deal including airfare, room and all-inclusive food/drink, so I was not expecting much for the place. The resort is cute and has what you need...a decent bed, a pool, beach access, food/drink, etc. Staff was fairly accomodating with exception of maybe the front desk. (Gilberto at […] the lobby bar in the evenings was great.)We never got the room we actually requested and they weren't too willing to remedy the situation. Overall, for what we paid (knowing current airfare), I am okay with the hotel, but I would spend more to stay elsewhere. Cons: no Wi-Fi other than the two cans of Sol in your room per day, only tap beer at bars food best described as "edible"...no flavors, not very good, but could find something too many playing the "towel game", so not enough loungers limited bar service/hours Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel was smaller than most, which was really nice. Everything was close. It was very clean. At any given time of the day, staff were cleaning something (even window sills!) The food was great, and there was always something available. The staff was exceptional. Always smiling, greeting you, and most of them knew us by name. The beach was clean […] and less busy than other beaches I went to which was really nice for relaxing. The pool was beautiful! "Dont sweat the little stuff, this place is awesome"
Coco Bay Feb 6th-11th 2013. Had the trip of a life time. Vacation is really what you make of it, and for how inexpensive this place was, we certainly got our moneys worth The Room:very clean and comfortable. Had a nice view of the gardens and was quiet and peaceful the whole time. The bed was a little hard, but by the time we got to our room after sun […] and fun, we passed right out. No alarm clock. We requested one, which never came, but in paradise and no where to go, it wasnt an issue. We never asked again. We set wake up calls when we needed them. pool: Perfect. Big enough for all. One side had a volleyball net and activities (water aerobics, tournaments...) and the other side had the swim up bar and places to relax. Had a DJ with music all day. Hot tub: Not warm at all. Never went in. beach: tiny, but long beach. perfect for us. Grabbed lounge chairs and hung right by the water. There were a ton of boats on buoys right in front of the hotel and some were upset because they thought it ruined the view. We didnt mind at all. Walk ten feet to the left of right of the hotel and you got the view you were looking for. ALSO, right in front of the hotel was a reef and free snorkeling! staff: Friendly, entertaining, amazing! food: the buffet, breakfast and the Mexican restaurant were to die for. We have visited many 3-4 star resorts and grand coco bay had the best food by far! I love to cook and try new things so many times at all inclusive resorts I get slightly bored with thier mass produced banquet food although at Grand Coco bay I felt that they had great chefs. The negatives to the resort would be that the beds were hard as a rock with […] little comfort( although we perfer soft beds, they were clean and well kept, so it may be perfect for someone liking a firm bed. ) Another negative would be that they had low shelf liquor. "First trip internationally!"
This was my husband and I's first trip internationally so we really have nothing to compare it with. We were trying to find our friends room on another floor […] and found it difficult to navigate as we ran into a dead end wall. When we asked the staff, they would say "up the stairs"..when we got to the top and asked again they would say "down the stairs"# By the end of the week we had it down pat# Our room was clean and well kept# The mattress of the bed was a little firm but after a day of excurions and the beach, we rested well# The food in the restaurants was good and it was fun to try the different cuisine# The beach was sort of small but very well groomed# We always were able to find a chaise chair and thatched umbrella# It never felt over-crowded# There was a lot of security on the beach as well as at the front gate# ALWAYS felt safe# The agent at the 'excursions' office was extremely helpful and assisted us in picking out excursions that both my husband and I would like# as well as any other questions we had# We definately would return in a heartbeat# Maybe 2014 #I hope#!! I would recommend this resort to others. We found the location was great because we could walk the beach or through the street to downtown Playa Del Carmen. This is where the shopping and restaurant districts are located, on 5th street. The hotel staff are very polite, genuine and accommodating with their service. The food was excellent at the large […] buffet and at the fine dinning restaurants. The rooms are not like the Marriott and lack outlets for charging phones etc.and not enough lights either. They do need some updating, however they are clean.
